It was quite unfortunate you had your last class with Asmodeus. You purposely attended a bit late to avoid any unnecessary confrontation.
As soon as the class ended, you rushed out and blended among the crowd who was in a hurry to leave as well. You easily drowned out Asmodeus' high pitched voice calling out to you.
The day ended with Yuki being successful in their endeavor. All that was left was to submit the form to the student council.
The problem lied in the fact that as it was the end of the day, they were most likely holding a meeting.
That meant having to see Asmodeus as Yuki submitted the forms to Lucifer. And because you were such an excellent friend, you managed to convince yourself to help Yuki and accompany them.
.
"...You don't need to do this, you know?" Yuki spoke as both of you stood in front of the door to the student council room. You hummed, turning around. "Yeah, you're right. Good luck, Yuki."
"Oh, hell no. I was just being polite." They latched onto your arm with a blank smile. "You've made it this far, so just go along with it."
"FIne." You shrugged off their grip and knocked on the door.
A few seconds passed before the door was opened slightly. Barbatos peered at the both of you in an intimidating manner. "Yes, what may it be?"
It was clear you two had just interrupted the flow of their meeting, seeing as the discussion had halted momentarily.
Unlike Yuki, you didn't falter at the stare. You returned the same blank look.
Fuck them for being interrupted, they shouldn't have dumped their work on Yuki anyway.
"I apologize for the intrusion, but Yuki was told to submit this by the end of classes today. Yuki has to run an errand after this, so we figured it would be more efficient to hand it over now."

A certain male perked up at the sound of your voice. Asmodeus slammed his hands on the long and sturdy table. "(M/n)?"
"Asmodeus, settle down." Lucifer reprimanded, making the male shrink back slightly.
He stared at you intensely as you handed the clipboard to Barbatos.
The dual-haired male paused, taking the form and scanning the contents. Seeing it properly answered, Barbatos nodded to both of you in gratitude.
"...Then, you have the student council's gratitude for your hard work."
"Yes, um, no problem." Yuki waved a hand. You stared at them with a dead look in your eyes.
Yuki didn't have the right to say that after previously cursing out Lucifer with every fiber of their being for having chosen them as the one to fill out the stupid thing.
"Then, I apologize again for the interruption. Have a nice day, Barbatos." You waved politely and took your leave with Yuki in tow. You heard Asmodeus' voice call out to you once more, followed by the sound of Lucifer scolding him.
Yuki grinned the moment you were both out of earshot. "That went well."
"I know."

The next day eventually came Whenever there was free time, you'd drag Yuki along with you to go somewhere else, preferably less conspicuous. And by some horrible chance Asmo would manage to find you, you would bolt away.
You weren't sure why he'd still be looking for you.
To apologize, maybe?
But you really weren't in favor of interacting with him at all.
You let out a sigh of annoyance as you puffed out a breath, exhausted after running quite a distance to avoid confrontation with the male you despised the most at the moment.
"(M/n), you're doing a lot of effort just to get away from Asmo. Wouldn't you rather just curse him out in one go just to end it already?" Yuki, who was admittedly just as tired as you, tried to reason.

"And what, give him the confrontation he wishes for? Fuck no."
"...How petty"
"Damn straight."

"...Solomon, he just ran away again!" Asmodeus whined to his white-haired companion. The said male sighed. "Figures."
"Why does he keep running away from me?"
"Maybe because you practically insulted him and Yuki at lunch yesterday? That was a very...stupid move."
"I'm trying to talk to him to apologize, okay? I know I was wrong then." Asmodeus reasoned. "I just can't get a hold of him."
"...What a shame." Solomon commented blankly.
"I just wanted to tease him a little, you know?"
"That crossed the line between friendly teasing and borderline public humiliation if (M/n) didn't kick you in the shins."
"Solomooon!" Asmodeus glared at the male. "You're not helping."
"...You have to acknowledge that (M/n) might not be like the people who usually start off all smitten with you." Solomon paused. "Never mind. It's not might, it's definitely not. It's clear he despises being teased like that."
"I can't help it..."
"...Maybe you should stop apologizing then." Solomon hummed, smiling as usual. Asmodeus paused, gazing at the male in confusion.
"...But won't that make (M/n) hate me even more?"
"(M/n) absolutely abhors you, Asmo. What do you mean?" Solomon deadpanned. The champagne-haired male scowled. "Solomon, take this seriously!"
"I am. I'm just not sure why you're so hung up on getting (M/n) to like you. You're not usually like this with the people you treat as flings."
"..." Asmodeus didn't retort, looking quite thoughtful at Solomon's words.
"...Alright, Asmo." Solomon began after a few moments of silence. "Give me one good reason why you're not willing to give up on apologizing to (M/n) and I might give you some advice."
"...Um..." Asmodeus' eyes darted around in search for an answer himself. "I don't...know. I guess (M/n) is kind of interesting?"
"...And by interesting, you mean...?"
"He's really cute."
"...Of course." Solomon's palm made direct contact with his forehead. Asmodeus' frown stretched deeper as he squeezed Solomon by the shoulder. "Don't say that! Who knows, maybe I like (M/n)?"
"...You might." Solomon muttered to himself. Asmodeus raised a brow, frown slowly leaving his features. "Might?"
"...Instead of entertaining people and getting flings, why don't you try to get into a stable relationship, actually?" Solomon suggested. At the abrupt change of subject, Asmodeus raised a brow.
"Why?"
"...To get experience, maybe?" Solomon shook his head with a smile. "Anyway, why don't you try being serious for once?"
"...Because that's boring."
"At least try once." Solomon persuaded. Asmodeus raised a brow. "If I do, who would I even choose?"
"..."

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
