"Alright ladies...first game of our World Cup..." Jill says then continues her pregame speech. I hate pregame speeches. They're so boring. I just want to go out and play.
Finally the pregame speeches are over and the starters and I head to the tunnel. Before we line up Lindsey and I do our pregame routine.
Lindsey and I face each other and cup each others faces. I then kiss Lindsey on the forehead and say, "I love you." Lindsey smiles then kisses my forehead and says, "I love you." Which makes me smile. We then tightly hug each other for around 10 seconds then go to our spots in line.
Somehow this routine started before an NWSL game.
A minute later we are told to walk out so both teams walk out onto the field and stand for the anthems. Thailand's is first then ours. After the anthems end we shake hands then get in our positions and wait for the whistle.
Thailand kicked off and for the first thirty minutes of the match both teams tried to keep possession until, unfortunately for Thailand, one of their players misplayed a pass. The pass ended up at my feet so I start running toward the other goal and look up to see Tobin trying to time her run. I play a through ball into her path and when Tobin reaches the ball she is almost at the edge of the area. The Thai keeper is way off her line so Tobin chips the keeper and the ball ends up in the back of the net.
After she scores Tobin turns around and does her scream celebration before the team reach her and hug her before we get back into position and wait for the whistle. The rest of the half consists of us attacking the Thai goal, but nothing happens so we head to the locker room.
"Alright ladies good half...." Jill says.
Like always I tune out the halftime speeches and relax in my locker until we go out for the 2nd half.
In the 70th minute Emily plays a long ball over the top and Alex runs towards the ball before she realizes she was offside so she let it go. Luckily, though, I was onside so I sprinted after it and luckily for me the Thai defender closest to the ball was lazily walking over to it. Her teammates start yelling at her, but it's to late. When I get the ball I race towards goal and take a quick look to see if I have a better option, but I don't so I glance at the goal and the keeper is off her line trying to make the goal smaller.

As I get closer to the goal I take one last look at the goal and see the keeper favoring her far post. I look down one last time then put my laces through the ball and the ball flies into the near top corner of the goal making the game 2-0.
After I score I turn around and see nobody near me so rather than doing my normal celebration and burning more energy I just walk back to our side and hug the girls along the way.
In the 89th minute Alex gets a pass from Lindsey and races towards goal as everyone else follows behind her. Alex shoots from outside the box and the ball hits the crossbar and falls right to me so I put my foot through it and the ball sails into the net for my 2nd goal as well as making the game 3-0. Alex comes over and hugs me then the rest of the team do as well.
Two minutes later the whistle blows and the game ends. Both teams shake hands then we walk toward the tunnel.
"Look at you getting a brace and an assist on your World Cup debut." Ash says.
I forgot about that.
Uh oh.
A second later I feel my stomach twist so I take off down the tunnel. Once in our locker room I sprint to the toilet and empty my stomach. A few seconds later I feel someone holding my hair up and a hand on my back so while catching my breath I look up and see Lindsey smiling at me.
"Debut?" She asks and I nod.
When I finish becoming best friends with the toilet Lindsey helps me up and goes to kiss me, but I put my hand out and stop her.
"You really don't want to kiss me right now." I say and Lindsey laughs a little and kisses my forehead. She then wraps her arm around me and helps me to my locker and sits me down and helps me out of my jersey.
"Relax for a second. I'll be back." Lindsey says. I nod and close my eyes.

"Lindsey is something wrong with Cairo?" Ali asks.
"It's her World Cup debut and she always gets sick after debuts."
"Do we need to tell Dawn?" Christen asks.
"No. I just need Two Gatorades, a water, and a cold towel." Lindsey says then I feel someone sit on my lap causing me to open my eyes and I see it's Lindsey.
"Hey Princess." I say.
"Hi Babe." Lindsey says then takes the cold towel from Christen and places it around my neck. "Alright you know this could suck so I apologize in advance."
"It's okay."
"Ready?" Lindsey says and I nod. "Open."
I open my mouth and Lindsey pours the bottle of water into my mouth. She then picks up one of the gatorades and waits for me to finish swallowing the water.
"Do you want me to do it or do you want to do it?" Lindsey asks.
"I'll do it." I say then drink the gatorade.
"Lindsey how do you know what to do?" Mal asks.
"Before her first game with Portland Cairo told me what to do." Lindsey says.
I finish off the first gatorade then change and wait for Lindsey to change then we head to the bus. Once on the bus we sit down and I lean my head Lindsey's shoulder.
"Recovery is going to suck for me." I say and Lindsey chuckles.
"Yes. Yes it is." Lindsey says.

Today is our last group game and we are playing Sweden.
Our game against Chile was so boring. All Chile did was hold the ball. On the two times they gave away possession we capitalized and scored with Christen and Mal getting the goals and I got the assist to Christen's goal. Jill rested most of the main starters for that game in preparation for today's game. Only Julie, Becky, and I stayed in the starting line up.
Right now it's the 85th minute and the score is 1-1. Asllani scored for Sweden and Alex scored for us. We have a corner after Tobin forced a tough save from the keeper.
The whistle blows and Tobin swings the ball into the box. Julie runs in front of me to the near post like she always does and at the last second she ducks under the ball and it comes straight to me. I hit it on the volley and the ball goes into the net.
After the ball goes into the net I run over to Tobin and jump on her and thankfully she catches me. The rest of the team come over and celebrate with the two of us then we walk back to our half. 5 minutes later the whistle blows signaling the game is over and everyone shakes hands then we walk off the field and head to the locker room.
"Great job ladies we've won the group with that win." Jill says and does her post game speech then leaves us to change. Everyone changes then heads to the bus.
"That was a bit of a let down. We should've beaten them by more." I say.
"Yeah we should've, but all that matters is that we've one the group." Lindsey says as she rest her head on my shoulder.
"Yeah. We play Spain right?"
"Yep...Is your old teammate on the team?"
"Thankfully not." I say.
"Good. We don't need you getting suspended and missing a game." Lindsey says.
