《BRUINS》17

The team enters the field, led by a determined Kelley and a confident Kelsey. Both girls know something big is going to happen today, because Megan somehow found out the Stanford players were trying to do harm to Kelley this time.
In the Harvard team, there also are familiar faces. First of all, Emily Sonnett and Cari Roccaro, who basically are Lindsey's best friends, are starting in defense. The three girls grew up in the same town and spent years together at school and outside. Second, there's Sam Kerr, one of Kelley's childhood friend, who's the captain of the team today.
When the brunette shakes the Australian's hand, she whispers :
"Some chicks from Stanford are after me"
Sam nods. "I know. You shouldn't be worried tho, nothing will happen today."
Kelley silently nods, wondering how Sam can know that they are targeting her today and also why she looks so confident.
Once the teams are in position, the Bruins current captain looks over at a girl right in front of her. She recognizes Steph Carley, a very good friend of Sam's, and the brunette, as soon as the whistle blows, runs toward Kelley.
The Aussie then says :
"We found three boys from Stanford with weed in their possession. They were about to put it in your bag during the game and get you arrested. Thanks to Sam, those dudes might have a great surprise later when they're gonna get arrested in the middle of our game."
Kelley is highly surprised, but also beyond grateful. So that's how they want to do things : we put their gk in her rightful place - jail - and they try to do the same with me. Wow.
"Thank you so much" Kelley whispers, tapping the other girl's shoulder. "I can't never thank you enough."
"Nah, it's all good mate" Steph lets out, smiling. "Our team support you. Speaking of that, y'all are invited to an after party after the game, and there's room for all of you. What do you say ?"
"I'm in. Thanks."
They then both focus on the game, that is about to be really tensed because either team wants to lose it. But on the other hand, in both sides, smiles and great mind set are taking place.
Thanks to magnificent saves from Kelsey and unbelievable dribbles and shot from Maro, the Bruins are rewarded 3 points with a 1-0 win. And during the second half, the game had to be stopped for a minute because the cops came and arrested three boys from Stanford. So far, so good, Kelley thought to herself, before celebrating the three point with her team, that she's proud to bring back to Becky, Tobin, Ash and Abby.
But first, there's a party to rock.

The party is set to take place in about an hour, but the music is already heard in most of the campus. The Harvard girls seem pretty welcoming from the gal's point of view, even though some really are cold. But since Kerr and Catley respect and love Kelley, they agreed on protecting the Bruins.
As some of the Bruins already are talking to the Harvard players that they know - so, basically Kelley and sometimes Julie, because she's played a decent number of time against them - Kristie feels like Janine is tensing up. When she looks in the same direction as the brunette is, she frowns : what does that blonde have that can catch Janine's attention and leave her breathless ?
Kristie raises her eyebrows.
"Who is she ?"
Janine looks at her, sighing, before saying : "My ex-girlfriend."
"Really ?"
"Yes." the Canadian starts, before getting annoyed. "Why can't everybody believe I actually have had a girlfriend once even though I don't consider myself as either lesbian or heterosexual ?" she then asks, raising her eyebrows.
"Because you're so cold-hearted that we would never think you actually had a girlfriend, J. That's it." Kelley says.
Of course she is listening behind my back, Janine thinks to herself, annoyed that she is too caught up by the sight of her ex-girlfriend enjoying herself with other people.
Things with Kassey Kallman ended in a good situation, in the way that there was no cat fight, no awkward situations and so on. Janine and her still are friends, even though it is really weird for the Canadian to see her again after two years. And when the blonde spots her and smiles at her, the brunette just smiles back, tensed. She still has those childish eyes, Janine thinks to herself, before advancing to the girl in order to greet her.
Okay, Janine, try not to be too awkward, the Canadian thinks to herself, praying that nothing weird happens right now. She knows she doesn't have any excuse for her awkwardness this time, because she isn't drunk or high. She's just awkward. That's it.
"Hey" Kassey says in a calm voice when Janine appears in her field of view. Her friends immediately recognise the brunette, and after briefly greeting her, they start to walk away, talking too low to Janine to get what they're saying. "Long time no see ! How are you ?"
Suddenly, Janine's head is empty.
"Did you know Africa owns the biggest Nature Reserve in the world ? It's amazing, because it's so big and no harm can be done anywhere ! Don't you think that's awesome ?"
Kassey bursts into laughter, before saying :
"You haven't changed a bit"
Janine immediately blushed : of course Kassey knows how awkward she is. Before they broke up because either of them wanted a long distance relationship, they used to date for two straight years, without any break or something. Their relationship was sweet and easy, and even Janine's parents liked Kassey - when they never liked any of her boyfriends.

That makes the Canadian blush, and when Kassey realises that - that she is still able to make her blush after all this time - she just smiles and says :
"How is your mother ?"
"She's good" Janine starts, before smirking. "I mean, you know how she is : she is more stressed than I am about my own studies. Plus, she really doesn't like the fact that I made the choice to go to UCLA, especially since she is a die-hard Harvard girl."
"I know" the blonde smirks, rolling her eyes. "I mean, she invited me over for coffee like one month ago, and she told me everything about your current life... Only, she didn't mention any boyfriend or..." she says, raising her eyebrows.
"Wait, you had coffee with my mother ?" Janine exclaims, deciding she better ignore the second sentence.
"Of course ! She invites me from time to time, just to check on me. Ever since my own mother died, she wanted to be my substitution mother. I think she secretly wants us to get back together though."
"But we won't" the brunette harshly lets out, before regretting it. Of course she still cares about Kassey more than any other person on this Earth, but she doesn't want her mother to have coffee with her ex-girlfriend and become a substitution mom. "I-I mean, I still live in Cali so, yeah."
"Of course."
Right after that, Janine's arm is grabbed by Julie, who silently greets Kassey, before taking her friend away from her. She knows pretty well how the Canadian works : she always wants to look tough around her ex-girlfriend, but a little alcohol and she'll fall right back in the blonde's arms because she still has feelings for her - at least that's what Julie thinks.
But when the brunette turns around to face her friend, she looks upset.
"Can you stop doing that please ?" Janine asks, bitter.
"You know it's for your own good. You should stay with Kealia and I" the defender answers, confident in her thoughts.
Janine sighs. "Fine. But before you mind my love life, mind your own first." she says, raising her eyebrows.
"What do you mean ?" Julie asks, confused.
The Canadian doesn't say anything for a while, before she realizes Julie is going to rip her head off if she remains silent, and says :
"Well, Maro looks quite busy tonight"
That immediately makes Julie turn around, and her jaw then drops.
The German is actually here, talking to Catley, an arm on the chair behind the Australian. Something in Julie immediately clicks, but since she doesn't want her or anyone to think there is still something between them, she doesn't move.
Instead, she drinks.
*
Only three hours later, Julie finally crosses Maro's path again. But this time, there is nothings sober about her. And when she approaches the German, who is still sitting next to Catley, with also Kelley and Sam nearby, Julie thinks to herself : you love Zach. This is all just stupid misunderstanding. You are going to talk to her like a grown-up. She frowns. Wait, talk about what ? She absolutely can talk with everyone. Or even kiss. Or s-sleep. She shakes her head, but before she knows it, she's already standing in front of the four girls.
She takes a deep breath and hides her drunk-face while saying : "Maro, can I have a word please ?", before she actually grabs the German's forearm and makes her walk faster. She then finds a quiet place, where she lets go of Maro's arm and crosses her arms against her chest.
"So, you and Catley ?" Julie asks in a neutral - at least she thinks it is a neutral - tone, raising her eyebrows.
Shit. You gave her signs, Julie thinks to herself. Maro and her have been in high school together and have learnt a lot about body language, so much that it actually became their primary way of communicating, still today. Eyebrow raising. Dark eyes. Bitchy grin. But she decides to ignore that.
Maro, on the other hand, doesn't.
"What ? It's not like I'm doing anything wrong" the German says, testing her.
But the defender doesn't want to break, even though she knows alcohol makes her talk more freely.
"I don't like her."
"You mean you don't like her with me, right ?"
Julie frowns.
B O O M. E X P O S E D.
"That's not what-"
"Then leave me alone" Maro coldly says, rolling her eyes. "You have Zach now, let me get over you and be happy now. You never hesitated to break my head and continuing breaking it every single second."
The blonde doesn't have anything to say, so she just remains still, as the taller girl walks back to her friends.
S H I T.
But before she can go back to the party and pretend as if nothing happened, Julie hears footsteps. She immediately knows those two guys aren't here to joke : they are from Stanford. She freezes, as they start smiling.
S H I T.
Before she can even scream, Julie receives a knock on her head, and her vision becomes blurry, before it all goes dark.

Tales From the Terran Republic
We tried, you know… We really did. We tried so hard to be… better… We actually were better once. No, seriously. We were enlightened, generous, peaceful… Stop laughing! We were! We were peaceful, dammit! No, I’m not “tugging your winglets.” It’s true! Look, if you’re going to be like that, I’ll just push the launch button right now. See ya, don’t wanna be… Oh, you ARE interested after all? Ok. Hey, I just got word that your captain will be ok. We were able to get him into a med pod quick enough… Of course, we tried to save him. Just what sort of people do you think we are?... Now that was harsh… completely accurate, mind you… but harsh. Anyway, like I was saying, we were a prosperous, peaceful people, and war had been nothing but a distant memory for over five hundred years before it happened... Before Yellowstone happened! You don’t mean to tell me that you didn’t know about that… massive supervolcano? Blew the Hell out of our planet? Two years where nothing grew?… Anyway, that’s what started it, the Sol Wars… Oh, you have heard about those, huh? Well, needless to say, all that enlightened, generous, and peaceful didn’t exactly make it through the two years of complete famine and the wars that followed… Maybe it’s more accurate to say the enlightened, generous, and peaceful among us didn’t survive… (laughs)… You’re right. It does explain a lot, doesn’t it? Probably for the best, though. “Enlightened” and “peaceful” aren’t really all that useful out here in the galaxy at large, are they? That reminds me; thanks for the ship. You guys did a great job with this one. Oh, don’t be like that. At least it was us what got you and not one of the really messed groups like the Harlequin or the Black Angels. We’re just going to take your shit. It could be worse… trust me... Well, anyway, we loaded the life pods down with some good food, and you guys can drink alcohol, right? We put in a couple of fifths in there, too. It’s about forty percent ethanol, so be warned. Most species will want to dilute that. We’ll drop your wounded off somewhere safe once they are stable. Your fleet patrols this area fairly regularly, and we’ll drop the distress beacon right before we jump… Well, It’s been fun and no hard feelings, right?… Oh, you want to know some more? Sure. I got time to kill… Let me tell you about this one pirate and her crew. They’re Terran scum, but they are still… Why do we hate the Terrans? Hoo Boy… How much time you got? *** It’s the thirty-second century, and humanity is now part of a galactic civilization comprised of hundreds of worlds. Humanity has been savaged by natural disaster and war and has been fractured into several separate populations, all of which loathe each other (some things never change). This is a gritty drama-driven rambling tale that swings between action, drama, horror, and plenty of very, very dark comedy. Warning: contains adult situations, absolutely horrible language, bathroom humor, implied ultra-violence, actual ultra-violence, drugs, alcohol, pirates, mercs, xeno prostitutes, moral ambiguity, deranged AI's with identity issues, giant commie space slugs, and a poor little frog girl who just wants to sell coffee. Updates twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. *** Note: This story can get rough. Those warning tags? They aren't for show. I recently received a review and as a result I want to make one thing clear. Portraying something is NOT endorsing it! Many "heavy" topics are touched upon and just because a character says or does something does not imply that the author feels the same way. I selected the "Anti-Hero Lead" and "Villainous Lead" tags for a reason. Rule number one of this story is "no good guys". A good description of the story is, "bad people doing bad things to worse people". There are a few good characters, here and there, but they are the exception to the rule. If you want a hard-hitting, exciting, gritty sci-fi story that doesn't pull any punches, or shies away from "difficult" concepts, welcome! If you are set on a pure and noble knight that runs around and slays conveniently evil monsters and rescues totally innocent princesses... or your sensibilities are easily offended... You're not going to be happy with this one.
