"So." Lane says from beside me.

We in our hotel room, lying on his bed, both staring at the ceiling. We walked here in silence after his big confession; i didn't know what to say. And that leads us to present time.

"So." I repeat.

"If you don't feel the same way we can just pretend i never said that." he suggests.

"I do."

"You do what?" he asks. It's like he constantly wants me to spell everything our for him.

"I do feel the same way." I smile.

"Really?" He sits up now, looking down at me.

I simply grin at him, and he returns it a thousand times bigger.

"That's cool." he nods, trying to stop himself from smiling. I sit up amd face him.

"Why did you go to see Mia though?" I can't help but be curious.

"I told her to stay away from me." he shrugs and my heart flutters a little. Because of me?

"Oh. Okay." I'm really struggling to hold back my grin at this point

"So." Lane looks down briefly before meeting my eyes again.

"So."

"Do you want... a relationship. With me?" he asks and i frown slightly.

"I don't know." I reply honestly. "I don't wanna, you know... hold you back or anything. Tie you down."

It's Lane's turn to frown now. "What do you mean? It wouldn't be holding me back."

"Yeah you say that, but you might miss, like, being able to hook up with whoever you want... and stuff." I don't want him to feel like i'm a chore.

He takes my hands in his and outstretches my fingers, kissing my palm gently.

"I haven't been near another girl since that time we got stuck in the elevator, Carter. Nor have i wanted to."

His words make my cheeks heat up.

"Really?" I whisper.

He nods, kissing my palm again and i stroke his cheek with my thumb.

"But what about after the school year ends? I live across the country and-"

"We'll make something work." he smiles at me now.

"You're my best friend Carter. I love everything about you. I love the way you hold serious conversations about different types of pasta. I love the way you tuck your hair behind your ears when you're being awkward and the way you look up at me through your eyelashes when you're mad at me. I love the way you're always so calm; it really levels me out. I'd do anything for you Jules."

My heart is beating a thousand miles per hour as Lane speaks. I had no idea he felt like this, this whole time.

"Can you picture it? You and me, together?" He finally breathes.

Yes. I can picture it. I want it so bad.

"I- i need time." is what leaves my mouth instead.

His face falls a little, but he's not dissapointed. He leans forward, pressing his forehead against mine.

"As long as you need."
