I push the door open slowly, my arm still dead from Lane sleeping on me the whole flight. It was a pretty peaceful since almost everyone was sleeping, listening to music or watching a movie on the plane TV.

"Woah." I breathe.

The resort room is beautiful. I push the door open wider and step in side, Lane behind me with our suitcases. He once again insisted that he carry mine.

"This school has way too much money on their hands." He says as he looks around, putting our luggage down by the door.

"Can't we just stay here the whole trip instead of going out in the cold?" I flop down on the bed nearest to the window, closing my eyes.

"We?" Lane repeats and my eyes snap open. He's stood at the end of my bed, smirking down at me.

"That's not what i meant perv." I prop myself up, my weight on my elbows.

Lane pouts and i flip him off before rolling off the bed.

"We should un pack so we're ready in time for the tour." I pull my suitcase over along with my duffle bag and sit on the floor amongst them.

"I'm not un packing." Lane huffs as he crosses his arms, sitting on the bed behind me.

"Why not?" I pull out my pyjamas and throw them behind me onto the bed.

"I did not spend an hour shoving everything in my case just to take it out and have to do it again in four days." Lane explains.

"So lazy." I sigh, putting my snow boots down on the ground beside me.

"This is cute, you should wear it right now." Lane says from behind me.

I turn around to see him holding up a black lacey bralet that i accidentally tucked into my pyjama shirt. He grins at me as i sigh in frustration.

"Creep." I snatch it back from him and he laughs, leaning back on the bed.

"And lastly, this is the cafeteria." Miss Cooper waves her hand around the vast dining area. "That concludes our tour Granite Bay!"

"Okay guys, you're free for the rest of the evening. Stay within the resort of course, but have fun!" Mr Jones claps his hands together as he usually does before turning to Miss Cooper.

"I heard they're sharing a hotel room." Lane leans down and mumbles in my ear, his breath tickling my neck.

I pull the sleeves of my sweatshirt down in an attempt to mask my shiver as i turn to face him.

"They might as well get married." I laugh as i walk toward the vending machine next to the cafeteria.

"So, what do you want to do for the rest of the evening?" He leans against the glass of the machine as i scan my eyes along the snacks. I just want a bag of doritos.

"Watch netflix, eat, then sleep." I push my £2 coin into the slot.

"Why don't we go and explore the resort?" Lane takes my can out the bottom as it falls down and cracks it open, taking a sip.

I pick up my dorito packet before snatching the can back from him.

"I'm tired. You slept the whole flight, i was finishing coursework." I point out.

"Fair enough. Well i'll just go with Isaac and the others. See you in the dorm?" He stands up straight, about to head off in the direction of his friends.

"Have fun." I smile before turning on my heels, walking in the direction of the stairs. I still have zero trust in elevators, it would be way worse to get stuck in one alone.

It takes me to the second floor and i step out, walking in the direction of our hotel room.

I hold my crisp packet between my teeth and slide the key card with my now free hand. It flashes green and i push the door open for the second time today.

Finally, that tour was like an hour long.

After unpacking a few final items, i flop down on the bed. The mattress dips in the shape of my body. This is so much more comfortable than the bed in my dorm room.

I check the time on my watch. It's only quarter to nine, but i'm exhausted.

I decide on taking a shower and getting into my night clothes.

I tie my wet hair up, too unbothered to dry it, and pull the duvet back, slipping between the sheets.

As soon as my head hits the pillow, i let my eyes flutter shut.

"Jules."

I shift slightly.

"Julia."

My dream pauses as i leave my sleepy state.

"Jubilee."

I force my eyes open. Why is this fool waking me up right now?

I squint as i roll over to look at the alarm clock beside the bed. It's four in the morning.

"What?" I whisper, laying back down and closing my eyes.

"I can't sleep." Lane whispers back, well whisper-shouts.

"What does that have to do with me?" I whisper again, opening one eye to stop myself from falling back asleep.

"I wanna talk to you." He replies.

"You woke me up in the middle of the night because you wanna talk?" I groan, rubbing my eyes.

"Yes." Lane says.

"Fine. What do you want to talk about?" I sigh

"You."

I fully open both of my eyes now. "Why?" I question, confused.

"I wanna know about you before Granite. Beside from the partying and shit. What about your family, you've never spoken about them before." He elaborates and i can tell he's facing me now.

I roll on my side to my left and face him too, laying on my hand.

"There's not much to say. I live with my dad, i'm an only child and i haven't seen my mum in over two years." I sigh.

"Damn. That sucks." He replies.

"Yeah, i don't really care as much anymore though." I say.

"Where is she?" Lane asks.

"I don't know. She just took off one day after an argument with my dad. I think he might have been cheating on her, but i never really asked." I explain.

After mum left, i stopped feeling things. Love, hate, sadness, happiness. It all just feels the same. That's why i don't care about getting in trouble. Atleast i get a rush out of it.

But with Lane, it's different. It's warm and comforting and... consistent. I live for consistency.

My therapist said i have a fear of abandonment and trust issues, which makes sense i guess. That's why i refuse to let myself love. Nothing is forever.

"What about your family, other than Connie?" I ask.

"We have a little sister, Mina. She's a freshman." He explains and i nod, even though the room is pitch black apart from the faint blue light of the alarm clock.

"What's she like?" I'm scared that i'll step over the boundary and he won't wanna answer, but i'm just curious.

"She used to be sweet, fun, playful. Everything a little girl should be. But then... shit happened." Lane exhales.

"Oh." I decide not to push any further. I feel like this is a sensitive subject. Lane is quite upfront about everything else.

"Well, you know how i got shipped away, but how about you? Why'd you get dumped in boaring school?" I change the subject swiftly.

"Fighting. Well, that was the main reason anyway. I beat this kid up so bad he was in the hospital for 3 months with broken ribs and a fractured skull." Lane explains and i raise my eyebrows.

"Woah, what did he do to you?" I ask. It must've been bad for him to rage out like that.

"He... messed with my family." He says vaguely.

"Oh. I'm sorry." I roll on to my back.

"For what?" Lane asks.

"That you got in trouble for it." I reply.

"Yeah." He says, and i can tell he's smiling.
