《Bruce's Best Friend - Discontinued》Chapter 12

The sun shone brightly through the enormous window in Bruce's room, falling right onto Percy's closed eyelids. She groaned and flipped onto her stomach, burying her face into the pillow.

"It's too bright," she mumbled.

Towards the other side of the room, Bruce chuckled, slipping on his business jacket.

"'Morning Percy," he said, as she slowly got out of bed, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

She made her way over to him, blinking blearily, and took the tie he was putting on from his hands. She weaved it around his neck and into a knot before tightening it up to his collar.

"I know how to tie a tie," he said, resting his hands at her waist after she had finished.

Percy rolled her eyes. "I know you do. The Batman can do anything," she said, smirking, "But I couldn't pass up the opportunity."

"Opportunity to do what?" asked Bruce, leaning closer.

Percy was about to kiss him as an answer when her phone rang. She almost never used her phone, seeing as demigods were accident prone with technology, so on the occasion it did ring, she knew it was important. It was Annabeth. Plus 4 missed calls.

"Styx," she swore, picking up the phone and putting it to her ear.

"Hey Annie," she said, a little cautiously.

"PERSEPHONE JACKSON WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?"

Percy almost dropped the phone, jumping at Annabeth's loud voice.

"Umm..." she started, not really knowing where to begin.

Annabeth's voice turned deathly calm. "You have been missing for over three months. I haven't seen you since that day in my apartment, Percy. Hera refused to tell me anything, other than the fact that you weren't dead. You better have a good explanation for this."

Percy paled visibly and Bruce tried to hide a smile.

"This isn't funny," she hissed at him, putting the phone against her chest so Annabeth couldn't hear, "Do you realize I could die?"

"I'm sure you'll be fine," he replied, the smirk breaking free.

"No, I won't. You haven't met Annabeth, Bruce," she said, glaring at him.

"So introduce me," he said simply before walking over to slip into his shoes.

Percy gaped at him from behind. That man had a death wish.

She turned her attention back to the phone where Annabeth was yelling her name.

"Percy! Percy! PERCY! ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME?"

"Sorry! Sorry! Sorry!" Percy yelped, then when Annabeth's voice paused in pure anger, she hurried on, "I promise I have a perfectly good explanation for this."

"You better, Seaweed Brain, or I will gut you like the stupid fish you are."

Percy winced. To say Annabeth was mad was a huge understatement.

"You know you're going to have to tell her about me eventually," said Bruce, gathering papers from his bedside table into his work briefcase. Percy shuddered at the thought, but then paused. Bruce was right. She couldn't lie to one of her best friends about something as huge as this. Sure, Annabeth would be furious, but she would get over it, right? She voiced her thoughts to Bruce.

"How did I take it when you told be about the gods?" Bruce rationalized, "And how did you take it when I told you about my vigilante thing?"

"Hero thing," Percy corrected automatically, before responding, "That's true. It can't go that badly."

Bruce looked at her as if to say, there you go, then.

Percy put the phone back up to her ear.

"Annabeth?" she asked, carefully.

"Mmm hmm?" Annabeth replied, her voiced still laced with venom.

"So that explanation...You still want it?"

Annabeth stayed silent but Percy could practically hear her pursing her lips in anger.

"Come to 1007 Mountain Drive in Gotham today at..." she trailed off before seeing Bruce hold up his hand, "5 o'clock. I promise I'll explain everything."

Before Annabeth could argue or even reply, she disconnected the call and her shoulders sagged from relief and dread.

"It'll be fine, Seph," Bruce said, his hands coming up to rub the sides of her arms.

Her face scrunched up in displeasure at the nickname but she nodded nevertheless.

"Don't call me that," she threatened, as Bruce put his hands up in surrender.

She leaned over, pecked him quickly on the lips and then waved her arms towards the door.

"Shoo! Go to work," she gestured, then sighed, "I'm gonna have to spend all day mentally preparing."

Bruce pressed a kiss to her forehead, grabbed his briefcase and walked towards the exit. Before he left, he turned and reassured her, "It's going to be fine."

Once he had started down the hallway, she muttered, "Goddamn liar."

Five came much too quickly in Percy's opinion. One minute she was planning out what she was going to say and the next it was 4:30 and Bruce still wasn't back from work. She was just about to pull her hair out in nervousness when she heard the doorbell ring.

Bruce!

She rushed to the entrance before Alfred could get there and flung open the door.

"Thank gods you're here. We have to get our stories strai-"

She stopped.

Bruce did not have blonde hair. Or piercing gray eyes. Or feminine body parts.

"Annabeth!" she squeaked, "You're early!"

Said girl's eyes narrowed.

"Yes I am, Seaweed Brain, is that a problem?" she said.

"...Of course not Annie!"

Annabeth glared harder and Percy internally winced. Oops.

"So, um, we're just waiting on somebody and then I can start the, uh, explanation?" Percy meant it to be a statement but it came out as question. Thankfully, Alfred showed up before her best friend had a chance to maim her.

"You must be Miss Annabeth Chase," he articulated, bowing his head ever so slightly, "It's a pleasure to finally meet you. Mistress Persephone talks about you quite a lot."

Annabeth, although confused, softened her demeanor at being recognized and then turned to Percy.

"Mistress?" she asked raising her eyebrows.

Percy flushed.

"I'll explain when he gets home."

"Who?" Annabeth asked, but her question went ignored once Percy heard a car pull up in the driveway.

"Oh thank gods," she muttered before rushing to meet Bruce while Annabeth followed closely behind.

She hugged Bruce moments after he walked through the door, primarily to a whisper a question into his ear.

"Batman?"

He whispered back, having mulled over this throughout the day, "Up to you."

"Annabeth," she said, pulling him over to meet her best friend, "Meet-"

"Bruce Wayne," she finished, an unreadable look on her face as she shook his outstretched hand, "Yeah, I know who he is. The question is, how do you know him? And why are you staying with him?"

Percy looked sheepish. "Well, remember when I told you about visiting that mortal friend?"

Realization dawned on Annabeth's face immediately.

"This is the memory Hera took away from you, isn't it?" Annabeth didn't bother to censor the information because if Percy said mortal, the man must already know about the gods.

"Yeah," Percy said, looking down and curling her hand around Bruce's, "He is."

Annabeth didn't miss it, or the way Percy quickly glanced at the man.

"Well, now I know why you've been living with him," she said, slightly smirking, and Percy flushed again, leaning into Bruce's side.

"I'm sorry for not telling you sooner, but I got caught up," she said.

"I can see that," Annabeth teased.

"So, you're not mad?" Percy asked hopefully.

Annabeth sighed, "Not anymore, at least. Next time, though, you decide to run off, get kidnapped, or fake your own death, at least let me know first."

Annabeth hid a smile when she saw Bruce tighten his hold on Percy's hand as she spoke.

"About that," Percy began and paused when she saw Annabeth visibly stiffen, "I need to tell you something, and you might want to sit down."

Bruce and Percy led the way to the living room, where they sat down on a couch, Annabeth dropping down across from them.

"What is it this time?" she asked.

"Well, I just wanted to say that stuff like that might happen and I can't always tell you in advance?" Percy said hesitantly.

"And why is that?" Annabeth asked sweetly, but everyone saw through it.

Percy clamped her mouth shut.

"She's a superhero," Bruce said bluntly, when Percy refused.

"Yeah, well, so is he!" Percy blurted out.

Annabeth looked at them. "Explain."

"You've heard of the Batman," Bruce asked, and then continued when Annabeth nodded, "I took up that mantle a few years ago."

Annabeth looked surprised for a moment, opened her mouth and then closer it again. It seemed like she wanted to ask a bunch of questions, but restrained herself.

"And I-"

"Found out some time ago and then begged to become a superhero as well because you miss the action and the helping people," Annabeth finished for her, "I know you better than you think, Seaweed Brain."

Percy got up and hugged Annabeth tightly.

"I missed you Annie," she said.

"Don't call me Annie," her best friend muttered, but returned the embrace. "One more thing, don't think that just because you dress up as a scary bat and fight crime in the middle of the night, you get to weasel out of the best friend talk, Bruce Wayne. You and I need to have a chat," Annabeth spoke, fingering her drakon bone dagger.

Bruce mentally winced as Percy slowly backed out of the room.

A.N. Yeah guys, I'm sorry if this one is kind of lame...

I don't have much inspiration anymore, but if you guys have any requests, I will gladly write them when I get the time. I'm gonna sound lazy (oh well I am), but I don't really wanna go through each of the chapters and look through comments to find what you guys suggested that I might've missed, so if you have any suggestions, comment them here!

Thanks guys!
