《Bruce's Best Friend - Discontinued》Chapter 9

**Time Skip 2 Months**
"Why not?" Percy all but snapped at Bruce.
"Because I don't want you to," Bruce ground out, glaring at Percy.
"That's not a real answer."
"Just drop it," Bruce grit in frustration.
"No! Not until you tell me exactly why not!" Percy crossed her arms and stood her ground.
"Forget it."
"No. It's not fair! Why are you being so stubborn?"
"It doesn't matter. No means no."
"But why? Is it because you don't think I can?"
"No-"
"Is it because you want to do it alone?"
"No-"
"Then WHY-"
"Because I don't want to lose you!" Bruce finally exploded.
Percy stopped in her tracks and looked at him, shocked. Bruce was standing firmly, glaring at nothing in particular. The anger melted from her immediately and she wrapped her arms around him.
"Hey, you won't lose me," she spoke softly to Bruce.
"You don't know that. This is dangerous."
"You think I don't know that? I know this can be risky at times, but I need to do this. After the prophecies and the wars ended, I feel like my life became so meaningless. I was so used to saving people and then suddenly I had a 9 to 5 job training kids and studying the ocean. I miss that feeling of helping people. If I'm able to, why should I?"
Bruce was hesitating, Percy could tell.
"Besides," she added, "I can defend myself. I've been training since I was 6. And I have powers."
He was almost convinced. Percy looked him straight in the eye.
"Bruce, I need to do this. I need to be a hero."
Bruce finally sighed. "Fine. But you have to promise to be safe."
Percy grinned and kissed him. "I promise."
"First things first," Percy started, then paused and Bruce gave her a questioning look.
"I need a suit."

"How do I look?" Percy asked, turning around and then back to the front again.
"Badass," Dick replied.
Bruce smirked and said, "Like a hero."
Percy grinned in response.
Percy's costume was a black suit with dark sea-green accents. It was a kevlar padded bodysuit with hidden pockets. She had black gloves and boots. She wore a long cape that was black on the outside and dark sea-green on the inside. On her waist was a utility belt identical to Batman's but in the same green color. On her face was a black domino mask that covered up most of her features. On her chest was a bird insignia, also in the dark sea-green.
"Ready Seabird?" Batman asked her.
"Ready."
---------------------------------------------------------**Time Skip**------------------------------------------------------------
For the next couple months, Percy fought Gotham villains with Bruce and Dick. However, Percy fought more in the shadows and the criminals never got a look at her face. They didn't know who she was, and some doubted she even existed. She was a secret weapon.
But Percy knew that wasn't why Bruce told her to remain a secret for now. He just didn't want the Justice League getting wind of her. That way, she could meet them when she was ready. And, Dick had added, it would be hilarious to see their reaction.
Tonight, the trio of them were going after the criminal, Penguin who had stolen some priceless artifacts from a museum. They silently jumped across rooftops until they got to the museum and then surveyed the scene. Percy also didn't use her powers in front of criminals so that they would underestimate her. If they were ever up against a very powerful enemy and they knew her, they wouldn't think she had any powers, which would give her, and the team, an enormous advantage.

Down below, Penguin was loading the objects into a getaway van. Batman and Robin quietly dropped down behind the van. Batman tapped Penguin on the shoulder and, when he turned around, he punched him in the face. All of a sudden, Penguin's henchmen appeared. The dynamic duo looked at each other and had a silent conversation. Robin went after the two henchmen, while Batman took care of Penguin.
During the fight, Penguin pulled out his umbrella and opened it. Blades started to spin on it and he swung it at Batman. Batman ducked and swept Penguin's legs from underneath him.
On the other side, one of the henchmen landed a hit on Robin and he groaned in pain. Batman looked over to see if he was okay and Penguin took the opportunity to run.
He only got as far as a couple meters before Percy appeared and tripped him. He looked up just in time to see a slightly smirking face before he was knocked out cold. Batman and Robin finished off the henchmen and handcuffed them.
"Nice one," Robin commented and held out a fist for Percy to bump. Percy rolled her eyes but bumped it anyways.
Batman cocked his head slightly to signify he was listening to his earpiece.
"I'll be there in a minute," he affirmed.
"What's up, B?" Percy asked him.
"Superman wants me on a JL mission," Bruce replied, "I have to go, but you guys stay on patrol."
Percy nodded. "Go save the world. σ'αγαπώ." (Love you.)
"σ'αγαπώ," Batman replied and grappled away.
"Come on Robin," Seabird grinned at him, "Let's go take down some bad guys."
---------------------------------------------------------**Time Skip**------------------------------------------------------------
As it turns out, Gotham's streets were pretty calm that night, so the two superheroes retired to the Cave. Dick, thinking it was too early to sleep, got out of his costume, but stayed up to train with Percy. They threw punches and kicks at each other, Percy holding back slightly. In the end, she had Dick pinned to the ground with her arm. She got up and helped him up as well.
"You're getting better," she praised him.
Dick pouted. "And you're still holding back."
"You're forgetting I have over 20 years of experience under my utility belt," she reminded him, getting a snort for the horrible pun.
"Still, what's your secret?" he asked, getting himself a drink of water.
"There's a big difference between training to save people and training to survive," she replied lightly, to keep the conversation from taking a slightly darker turn.
Dick got the message. "Yes, there is."
Percy changed the subject. "So, can we see what Bruce is doing?"
Dick grinned. "I thought you'd never ask."
He sat down on the chair in front of the bat-computer and stretched his fingers. Then he began typing furiously, Percy at standing by his shoulder.
"What are you doing?"
"Hacking into the Justice League mainframe. Well not really hacking, I already gained access a long time ago. Now where are the missions...Aha! Here we go," Dick read aloud from the screen, "Mr. Freeze, Captain Cold, Heatwave, Killer Frost, Icicle, and Icicle Jr. were seen congregating at the edge of Antarctica. It seems here that they were building a weapon or machine of some kind, but it's not identified. Holy Moly!"
"What?!" Percy asked, worried.
"They sent all of the original 7 minus Aquaman plus Green Arrow on this mission. It must be serious," Dick's eyebrows were raised high, "Wait there's a transmission coming in."

Dick pressed a couple keys before a crackling sound came over the loudspeaker.
"Batman to Seabird, we need immediate backup. Immediately." Bruce's voice was calm and collected, though he sounded a little out of breath. However, there was a slight of worry that only Percy and Dick could pick up on.
Percy looked at Dick, seriously.
"Suit up."
Percy vapor-traveled her and Dick there, but out of sight. They surveyed the scene.
Batman was fighting Mr. Freeze and Killer Frost but seemed to be at an impasse. Superman was tied up and struggling, which confused Percy until she saw the kryptonite tucked into the rope. Flash was trying to fight Captain Cold, but the ice on the antarctic ground did not seem to be doing him any favors. Green Arrow was frozen in an ice cube from his chest and down and was reduced to shouting insults at the villains. Heatwave seemed to have upgraded his fire gun and was doing a pretty good job at keeping Martian Manhunter at bay. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern were working together to fight Icicle Sr. and Icicle Jr.
Not far away from the fight, was a big silver and black machine that was pointing toward the ocean. A control panel was placed only a couple feet away from the machine with a timer, counting down from 7 minutes.
Percy took charge. "Robin, you go to the machine. Figure out what it does and find a way to shut it down."
Dick nodded. "And what're you going do?"
"I'm going to join the fight, of course."
Seabird slipped out from the rock she was hiding behind just in time to see Mr. Freeze narrowly miss Batman with a blast from his ice gun and Killer Frost slam her cold fist into his stomach while he was distracted.
Percy growled and lunged for her using her powers discreetly to control the ice beneath her feet and give her a small boost. She aimed for her face and threw her own punch, knocking Frost back a couple feet. She staggered to regain her balance.
"I got her Bats," she smirked at Bruce, who had recovered.
Bruce smirked back and focused his attention to Freeze.
"Who're you?" Killer Frost spat at her, creating an ice dagger.
"Hi, my name's Seabird, what's yours?" she taunted.
Killer Frost responded by chucked the daggers at Percy who easily dodged them. She then sent a large gust of freezing cold wind at Percy who moved away at the last minute and got close enough to fight her. A few punches and kicks and she was down. Percy slapped a power inhibiting device onto her and moved over to Batman who had incapacitated Mr. Freeze.
Suddenly Robin's voice came over the earpiece. "Hey, guys. I figured out what the machine does. It's designed to send nanobots with freezing capabilities into the ocean. If it activates, it'll freeze all the oceans."
Percy gasped. "No! Can you disable it?"
"Yes, but I need Batman's help to do it."
"Coming," Bruce said and ran over to help Dick.
Percy looked around and it seemed like Wonder Woman and Green Lantern needed the most help.
Diana caught Icicle Jr. in her lasso, but he sent up a wave of ice that climbed her rope that knocked her out of the air. John saw her fall and called out her name in worry. As she flew down to catch her, Icicle Sr. sent ice daggers at his back. At the last moment, Percy jumped in front and shielded him from the ice with her cape.
John looked back. "What the-?"
Percy turned around, grinned, and said, "You're welcome," before whipping back around to fight the ice villains.
"I'm ok," Diana said, getting up, "But who is that?"
"I have no idea," John answered honestly, "But she seems to be on our side."
The both shrugged and joined the fight again, though the new hero seemed to be doing fine on her own. Working together, they defeated the Icicle family and Percy pulled out two more inhibiting devices from her utility belt and placed them on the villains. Diana looked confused when she saw the belt and opened her mouth to ask about it before Percy spoke up.
"I'll go help Flash and Martian Manhunter. You guys go free Green Arrow and Superman. The more help the better."
Wonder Woman narrowed her eyes at the girl as she ran off to help the others, but decided she was right and went to go free her teammates.
First, Percy snuck up on Heatwave who was shooting flames to keep J'onn away. She flipped over him and threw a small knife into the gun, which exploded in tiny flames. She left J'onn to deal with Heatwave and went to go help the Flash, who was doing his best to dodge ice blasts.
"Hey! -- who are you?" Flash said, surprised.
"Backup," Percy smirked at him. Using the slippery ice to her advantage, she 'skated' around Captain Cold who was now having trouble shooting at 2 people. Flash distracted Captain Cold with his speed and hoped the new girl would use the opportunity to make her move. She did. She got close enough to Cold to knock his feet out from under him. Flash then snatched the gun from his hands and Seabird knocked him out with a punch. Barry vibrated his hands through the gun and destroyed it.
"Are you a new hero?" he looked up to ask her, but she was already running away.
"Did you figure out how to disable it?" Percy asked Batan and Robin worriedly as there were only 30 seconds left on the clock.
"One second..." Batman trailed off.
When there were 15 seconds left, Robin whooped as there was a whirring noise indicating shut down.
Percy sighed in relief.
"We still need to destroy the technology," Batman reminded.
"I got it."
Percy secretly sent a small stream of water inside the machine, froze the water, created spikes and damaged the whole inside of the machine.
"What did you do?" Robin asked curiously.
"The outside looks intact but the inside of it is all scrap metal."
"Good job," Batman smiled slightly, "Now go before the others see you again."
Percy grinned, took Robin by the arm and vapor-traveled away.
The rest of the Justice League slowly walked up to Batman.
"Did you see her?" Flash asked while GA and Superman were confused.
"Who?" Batman raised an eyebrow.
"The girl," Diana supplied, "There was another masked girl here. I didn't recognize her at all."
"I don't know if she was a hero or villain or something in between," John added, "But she helped us in our fight."
"I didn't see any girl," Batman said, adding fake suspicion to his voice.
"I saw her too," J'onn said, "She used this to destroy Heatwave's gun."
Martian Manhunter held up a small knife and handed it to Batman. Bruce looked at the knife. Percy was smart, not using a batarang. Superman held his arms up.
"Wait, so you're telling me there was a girl here who basically saved us all and all she left was a knife?"
Green Arrow looked a little suspicious. "Don't the guilty always run?"
Flash spoke up, "You're the detective here, Bats, you can find her, right?"
Batman observed his team.
"I'll look into it."
AN Please comment. Good. Bad. In between?
