《Bruce's Best Friend - Discontinued》Chapter 7

Percy appeared on the doorstep of the Wayne Manor with her fist raised to knock. If she was going to be completely honest, she had no idea what she was doing. Just looking at the Manor after 15 years made her knees shake; what was she going to do when she saw Bruce?

If she saw him, she thought, miserably, If he even wants anything to do with you anymore.

Gathering her courage, she knocked sharply once. After a few moments, she was about to knock again when the door opened up to reveal Alfred. She simply just stood there, not knowing what to say.

He had a look of astonishment for a brief moment before it was gone and she wondered if it was even there. Then he smiled warmly at her and gestured her to come inside. Instead, she hugged him tightly as he let out a small 'oof' of surprise before hugging her back.

"It's nice to have you back, Mistress Percy. I've missed you. Bruce is upstairs, in his bedroom."

Upon seeing the look on her face, he continued, "He's missed you, as well."

She nodded mutely before slowly climbing the stairs, her thoughts swirling in a hurricane. She wanted to see him so badly. She just wanted to hug him and never let go. But she didn't know how he would react. Would he be furious before she even got the chance to explain? Would he be happy to see her? Did he have someone?

Pushing that last thought way back into her brain, she silently opened the door to his bedroom.

She stepped inside, just as he stepped out of the bathroom, drying his hair with a towel. She sharply inhaled, because, gods, he looked exactly the same, yet so different.

At that sound, his gaze snapped to hers and he froze.

The towel dropped to the ground.

He just stared at her like he was looking at a ghost, which, to him he was.

"Bruce," she said, although it came out more like a hesitant question.

Still, he stood there like stone but Percy could swear she saw hope in his blue eyes.

"Bruce," she tried again, her voice still as cracked as before, "It's me, Percy."

But his face hardened and he spoke with a steely tone.

"Percy is dead and she died years ago," He paused here and he seemed to be gathering something. Whether it was courage or just merely his thoughts, she couldn't tell.

"No, Bruce, I'm right here," she pleaded and took a step towards him.

He didn't move but he didn't seem to believe her, even though part of him clearly wanted to.

"Bruce, it's me. Remember that time we make cookies, and talked for hours in that water bubble?" she spoke softly as she got closer with every word.

She had almost reached him now, and he was so close to breaking.

"And the first time we met, remember when you threw that rock at my head and Alfred had to stitch it up? And you told me the story behind those rocks?" With that, she touched his shoulders.

Bruce crumbled under her touch. He wrapped his arms around her smaller frame buried his face into her shoulder.

"It's you, you're alive," he spoke full of wonder.

"It's a really long story," Percy laughed as tears fell from her eyes and landed on Bruce's shoulder.

She could tell his eyes were misty too as he hugged her tighter and whispered that it didn't matter.

Bruce could hardly believe it. He thought that the only person he ever romantically loved had died and now he was holding her in his arms, his heart pounding.

After what seemed like an eternity, they parted and Percy looked at Bruce, really looked at him for the first time. Yeah, he had definitely changed and aged handsomely. He had a sharp jaw and his wet hair flopped onto his forehead ever so slightly. But Percy could still see the kid Bruce in his eyes. His features had changed, yes, but not the way that he wore them.

"I missed you so much," she said to him softly.

"You have no idea how much I missed you," he breathed, putting his warm hand to her cheek.

Percy leaned into it and put her hand over his.

"I'm so sorry. I swear I have a reason I didn't come sooner. I swear on the River Styx I would have if I could."

Bruce just shook his head, pulled her into another embrace, and told her it was ok. All that mattered was that she was here now.

Downstairs, Dick came bouncing into the kitchen and sat into a chair. He waited for a couple of minutes before frowning.

"Bruce is always here before me or at the same time. I should go check on him," he said to Alfred, but the butler shook his head.

"Master Bruce is having a, ah, reunion, of a sort. Best not to interrupt. He'll come down when he's ready," he advised.

Dick gave him an odd look before suspiciously sitting down. Another minute passed before he finally saw Bruce walking down the stairs. Except, he was walking shoulder the shoulder with a woman who looked vaguely familiar.

And Bruce was smiling. Definitely not the all-out grin, but there was a small peaceful smile on his face.

"Who's this?" Dick asked, curiously.

"This is Percy Jackson," Bruce said, looking at her in the process.

Dick gasped. Now he knew where she was from. It was that photograph Bruce had shown him. She was as old as Bruce now, and obviously not dead.

"You're the one Bruce told me about! The one he l-," He started but Bruce cut him off.

"was extremely good friends with, yes," Bruce gave him a look and Dick mentally laughed. Bruce hadn't told Percy he loved her yet and vice versa.

"I'm Dick, Bruce's son," he said, holding out his hand to shake.

Percy had a weird look on her face, but she gave him a real smile and shook his hand.

"Adopted, son," Bruce was quick to add, looking at Percy again.

Dick knew what Bruce meant by that and he wasn't offended. He just didn't want Percy to get the wrong idea.

Percy's face went back to normal and her smile got a little bit brighter.

"You know, Bruce, he could be your biological son. He looks just like you," Percy said, nudging his shoulder.

Dick grinned at her in response.

Percy laughed, "You are going to be such a heartbreaker when you grow up. Just like Bruce!" She smiled at Bruce and walked into the kitchen to take a seat at the table.

Bruce was still staring at her, seemingly entranced. Dick looked at him as if to say, well? Bruce glared at Dick and took a seat next to Percy. Dick followed. He could not miss this.

Throughout the entire breakfast, Bruce would stare at Percy when she wasn't looking and Percy would stare at Bruce when he wasn't looking.

Bruce still had trouble comprehending the fact that Percy was right there, in front of him, eating her favorite blue pancakes. Bruce had, for the past 15 years, tried to avoid blue food as much as possible because they reminded him too much of her. Now, he eagerly welcomed the tradition.

Percy hadn't changed. Her personality was exactly the same, just a little more cheerful and dark at the same time, if that made sense. However, she had grown up into a beautiful woman. And Bruce could not keep his eyes off her. Every time she smiled or laughed, he was sucked in. Dick snapped him out of his thoughts.

"So, how come you aren't, you know, dead?" Dick asked.

Percy's face darkened slightly and she wore a sad smile.

"Well, it's a long story. You know that prophecy I told you about? Well, it turns out, I wasn't the hero. When it said A hero's soul, cursed blade shall reap, it meant Luke's soul, not mine. He sacrificed himself to stop Kronos, and we won. After the war, I tried to find time to visit you, but the campers needed to heal and everything needed to be rebuilt. When I finally got time, Hera kidnapped me, put me to sleep for 8 months, and when I woke up, I had no memories."

"What?" Dick asked, "Why would she do that?"

Bruce remained quiet to hear the rest of the story, but took Percy's hand and rubbed circles into it because it seemed the next part was hard for her to tell. Percy smiled at him gratefully before continuing.

"She sent me to a Roman Camp with Roman demigods. Eventually, when Annabeth and the other's found me, we had to go on another quest/war to defeat Gaea. Along the war, I - I fell into Tartarus, and let's just say it wasn't fun."

Dick was confused for a moment but Bruce gently supplied him with the definition and he gasped in horror. Bruce was horrified as well. He didn't even want to imagine what had happened to Percy while she was there. It made his blood boil just thinking about it.

"When I got out, we managed to defeat Gaea in yet another bloody battle. We lost many demigods from both sides, but we won. After that, life pretty much went back to normal. Hera had given me back all my memories, I went to college in a city that was safe for demigods. I got a job as a marine biologist and I worked at Camp. Years went by before I discovered a certain scar on my head, and I couldn't remember where I had gotten it."

A look of realization came upon Bruce's face as well as a surge of anger.

"I realized Hera hadn't given me back all my memories. I threatened her until she did, and now I'm here. With you," Percy finished, looking at Bruce.

Bruce squeezed the hand that he was holding and smiled reassuringly at her.

"If I ever meet Hera, I will punch her in the face, goddess or not," Dick announced and Percy laughed.

"Not if I get to her first," Percy replied.

"She's mine," Bruce glared at nothing in particular.

Percy took her other hand and put it on top of Bruce's and he slowly calmed down.

"Hey, I'm here now, right?"

"Yes, you are," Bruce said.

Dick slipped out of the kitchen, sensing a private moment.

Bruce started to lean in slightly when Alfred came down to the table and put a pot of hot coffee in between them.

"Master Bruce, Mistress Percy, would you like some coffee?"

Later:

"Alfred..why would you do that? Bruce was gonna make a move!" Dick complained to the butler.

"I'm aware of that Master Dick, but I do not think that at the kitchen table in the morning is the best time and place to make a move. The night, however, seems to hold more promises."

The butler's eyes twinkled as Dick got the message with a long Ohhhhhhh.

He entered the room with Bruce and Percy.

"Why don't we go swimming!"

A.N. Any thoughts? Did I write their reunion well?
