"LISA." Jennie couldn't believe her eyes. Her best friend was actually back. Right here, in front of her, after a year of complete silence. She was momentarily stunned at her beauty, in awe of how much she had changed, and how much she hadn't. She had the same beautiful features she had one year ago, but her cheeks were slimmer, her jawline more pronounced. Her lips were just as luscious as they were when she kissed them, the day she left.

"Hey," that soft voice touched her ears again. That voice that haunted her every day for the past year. From replayed videos, voicemails, and messages. Anything to remind her that her best friend did exist and she didn't imagine their years of friendship. Because yes, when Lisa left without a word, Jennie's world had gone truly quiet.

Before she could help herself, a slap loudly echoed across the restroom and Lisa's head whipped to the side.

"I guess I deserved that." The taller blonde touched her reddened cheek and looked at Jennie in the eye.

"How could you just leave like that?" Jennie's voice was low, her fists trembling at her sides. "You broke me, Lisa, after all we've been through together you just upped and left. After all that I've done for you, the least you could do was tell me. Tell me where you were going."

"I know Jennie, and I'm sorry I-"

"No, Lisa," Jennie's jaw clenched and she moved closer. "Sorry isn't going to turn back time. Sorry won't bring back a year of constantly thinking about what I did wrong to make you leave without telling me. Sorry won't unbreak a heart only a best friend could shatter. So shut the fuck up."

Lisa bit her lip and nodded, tears filling up in her green orbs. Jennie felt her heart drop at the sight, and she restrained herself from reaching out to wipe her tears away.

"And so you left for what," the brunette gestured to her body. "This? To lose weight?"

The brown-haired beauty looked to the ground, her voice trembling, "I couldn't let you protect me all the time," She looked back up, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I wanted you to be proud of me. I wanted the beautiful popular girl to be seen walking with one just as pretty. I wanted to be wanted like you were. I wanted to be invited to parties because people actually wanted me to, not because I was your best friend and you wouldn't go anywhere without me. I wanted us to be able to take pictures like those tumblr posts you like and gush about so much." She pounded her chest. "Do you remember that time we decided to dress up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 from Cat in the Hat? My costume didn't fit me! I had to improvise and dress up as a fucking ghost while you paraded around in the perfect princess costume. I lost weight because I wasn't good enough!"

"That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life," Jennie scoffed. "You know I don't give a flying fuck what other people thought. This is high school for crying out loud! This is nothing compared to a whole life ahead of you. And you broke my heart and left me to lose weight? Am I really that easy to leave behind? You didn't even fucking explain! I-"

Lisa grabbed her sleeve, tears flowing from her beautiful green eyes now, suddenly seeming desperate. "Please, I can explain, just give me-"

"Lisa! You just did!" Jennie was exasperated. "Your whole speech about your weight problems that were never a burden or a problem to me. Like I said, this is just high school. In the real world, nobody's going to care if you're invited to parties. Congratulations, you explained, and I'm still heartbroken. Now leave me alone."

Lisa was sobbing. "No, please Jennie you don't understand-"

"Let go of me!" Jennie yanked her sleeve away from Lisa and she grabbed it again quickly, annoying Jennie. "I don't want to have anything with you!"

"Babe?" a knock sounded at the door, Bambam's voice muffled behind it. "You've been in there a while. You ok?"

"Yeah," Jennie wrenched her arm away from Lisa and looked at her with resignation. "I am now." She breathed hard, anger clouding her senses at the sight of the girl who made her question her value.

She turned to leave and felt a hand gently hold her wrist. Her heart stuttered at the smooth, light touch as she looked back at the blonde.

"What?"

"You're dating..." Lisa swallowed, fear evident in her eyes. "Bambam? My... bully?" It shattered her heart to pieces, knowing that not only did Jennie have absolutely no care about her anymore, she was clearly moving on with the one guy that made Lisa's life a living hell.

Jennie took her arm away from the other one's hold, somehow needing distance. "Yeah, well he was there for me when you weren't."

"O-oh," The blonde dropped her head. "I see." Then she grabbed her backpack and walked out, but not before whispering, "I'm sorry. You don't owe me anything. I'll stay out of your way." Just as quickly and as desperately as she wanted to talk to Jennie, she was indifferent and cold.

She opened the door and stiffened when she saw the dirtied-up jock leaning against the frame. She rushed past him and he looked back at Jennie in surprise.

"Was that Lisa?"

"In the flesh," Jennie murmured, those tear-stained green eyes imprinted in her mind.

The next day, the school buzzed with the news. Lisa "Farter" was back. And apparently a lot hotter. Some say she did it to get revenge. Others say she got stranded on an island and starved. The rumours were typical, but they all viewed her the same. Girls wanted to be her. Guys wanted her. Heck, even a few girls wanted her like that.

Jennie didn't give a shit.

So why did her heart skip a beat when she walked in her Physics class the next day and a certain blonde sat at the back? She was surprised Mr. Collins took in Lisa at such short notice.

Today those long, slim legs were encased in black skinny jeans, her toes painted maroon red and in delicate sandals. She wore a silk blouse, the soft fabric molding themselves around her curves and even hanging off her bra cups. Jennie wrenched her eyes away from her ex-best friend's very appealing chest area and took her usual seat at the front. What was going on with her?

Someone passed her a note and she opened it, silently groaning and rolling her eyes.

Lisa got HOT mama. How are you still straight?

She turned in her seat to flip the short girl her middle finger and the latter's eyes widened, her hand covering her mouth as she laughed. As she did, she caught a glimpse of Lisa, smiling. Her face was undeniably beautiful, and her smile made it all even more so. Those clear green eyes were red and tear-stained yesterday, and the mental image brought a small ache into Jennie's heart. To the point where it almost physically hurt and she had to subconsciously rub her chest to ease the pain.

It was so unlike Jennie to flip the bird. She even swore this morning when her toes hit her kitchen counter. And she rarely ever swore.

She knew it started when Lisa came back into her life, but she had no idea why. She's not worth the distraction. Not when she was all I could think about this past year. Only Bambam had made me forget.

During the lecture, Jennie couldn't help but sneak a few glances behind her, mentally slapping herself every time.

Lisa's rich, mahogany hair was tied up in a ponytail, little wisps escaping to frame her face. Her green eyes twinkled as she laughed at something her seatmate said, and Jennie felt something tug in her. No, I'm not jealous.

"O-m-g, Lisa, you're practically my best friend!" an annoyingly high-pitched voice giggled and Jennie growled.

She was mine first. Get your own human, Susan.

She shut her eyes. What was she thinking? She slapped her for goodness' sakes. She knew without a doubt that Lisa hates her guts now and she knows she hated her in return. Those tear-stained eyes flashed through her mind again and she clenched her jaw at how much it affected her. God, even when she's already here she still haunts me. What is she, a ghost? I hate her.

Yeah, you should hate her, she thought to herself. She left you, remember? That's not a best friend. That's not something she would do. You thought you knew her? Think again. Even the best have endings.

"Ok everyone, now pay attention. We will be having an experiment on Newton's Laws of Motion, and instead of using apparatuses," Mr. Collins paused for dramatic effect. "We'll be using our own bodies. So I will be choosing the partners."

Jennie groaned inwardly. She really wasn't in the mood to be bumping and pressing her body against someone else for the sake of this stupid-

"Jennie and Lisa."

Oh, God no. Not this stupid cliche.

Jennie groaned and hit her forehead on her desk. She felt like the entire universe was against her today. She wanted to avoid Lisa at all costs, even if it killed her. Anger and pride were her two main ingredients to doing just that.

We'll be using our own bodies. She remembered Mr. Collins' words and she groaned out loud once more.

Jennie and Lisa.

What a fucking joke.
