《Love Returns (Blake/You) ✔️》Chapter 23

"It feels great to be home." I say as I walk into my old childhood home with my bags.
"Ma?" I call out and I'm immediately swarmed by my mother. She wraps her arms around my waist and I laugh as I hug her back.
"My baby's home!" She says with such a bright smile.
"I missed you too Ma." I say as I chuckle softly.
"How was your flight home?" She asks as she leads me into the kitchen. I take a seat and she continues cooking dinner.
"It was good. I slept most of the way." I say as I grab a carrot from the cutting board.
"Well good, your brothers will be coming tonight and so will your sister." She says and I nod my head.
"I'm gonna run my bags up to my room." I say and my mother nods her head. I kiss her cheek before leaving the kitchen. I grab my bags and carry them to my room. I throw them on the floor and marvel at everything in my old room.
I smile and shake my head as I spot all the pictures and news articles that my mom printed off about me.
I led my team at UCONN to four consecutive NCAA titles. They compared me to a female Michael Jordan.
I spot something that catches my eyes and I feel a wave of emotions rush over me.
"Ma?" I groggily answer my phone as I notice the time.
"Y/N honey, I need you to get on the next flight home. Your fathers had a heart attack."
I didn't need to be told twice as I rushed around my dorm room. I got dressed and grabbed my phone, wallet and keys. I left everything else behind as I rush home to my family.
When I arrive home it's early morning. I hail a cab and tell them to take me to the hospital my father was at.
When I arrive I run into the hospital looking for my mother along with my brothers.
When I finally find them they are scattered all over the waiting room. My mother is sitting in a chair with Scott by her side. Garrett is pacing back and forth and I catch his eye.
"Thank god you're here." He says as he rushes towards me and he pulls me into a hug. I hug him back just as tightly. When we pull alert I'm hugged by Scott then my mother.
I hold her as she cries into my chest.
"Where's Ali?"
"I'm here." She says coming from behind me. She pulls me into a hug then hugs my mother next.
"Family of Jeffrey Y/LN." I hear a doctor say and it brings back so many bad memories being here in this exact hospital.
"Here." I say and he nods his head as he moves towards us. We all take a seat as he looks at us with an emotionless face.
"Your husband had some complications during surgery. We had to intubate him and his brain had gone without oxygen for too long. Do you know what his wishes are?"

I feel my twin sister grip my hand and I feel a wave of emotions rush through my body.
"He wouldn't want that. He wouldn't want a tube down his throat." I say and everyone else is silent.
"Without him being intubated he won't be able to breath properly on his own." I swallow the lump forming in my throat.
"We understand." Scott says and the doctor nods his head.
"We'll get everything ready and you all can be with him." He says and we nod our heads in thanks and I shake the man's hand as he leaves us.
I hold my twin sister as she bawls her eyes out and my brothers hold my mother.
Two hours have passed and they finally have come to get us.
When we enter his room I can't help but inhale sharply. I feel my sister bury her face into my chest as she cries even harder at the sight of our father.
They just have the one tube down his throat and they wait for our signal to remove it.
I watch my mother move away from my brothers and towards my father.
We all surround his bed. Ali takes his other hand and I rest my hand on his leg.
"We're here Dad." I say with a raspy voice as I try to hold back the tears but it's no use. They fall freely and my mother tells them to remove it.
They shut off all the machines and we watch him breath slowly for a few minutes until his chest no longer moves up and down.
We step aside for the doctor to check and he calls time off death.
The rest of that day was a blur. His funeral was a blur, and I don't remember much of it at all.
I remember my friends coming to support me, but that was the extent of what I remember.
His obituary from the funeral rests on my dresser. It sits next to the ultrasound picture of my daughter.
At least she's not alone anymore.
I hear my phone ringing and I smile at the name popping up on my phone.
"Y/N Y/LN!"
"Hey Car." I say with a chuckle.
"Why did I not know that my best friend was coming home?"
"I'm sorry it slipped my mind."
"I'm sure it did. But listen Dylan is having us all meet at Rockys for drinks tonight. He says he has some big news to tell us."
"Okay, do I need to pick you up?"
"See I knew there was a reason you were my favorite." Cara says and I can't help but laugh.
"I'll see you at ten."
"Later bitch." I can't help but laugh once again at her childish ways. Still the same old Cara.
"I wonder what he has to tell us." I say as we walk into the bar we've become accustomed too.
"He's probably coming out finally." Cara says, causing me to laugh loudly.
The two of us spot our group of friends sitting at the bar. I can't help but chuckle at the sight. Thomas has a full beard now, Colton looks like he hasn't aged a bit, and Dylan is trying to grow some facial hair but it looks like he's failing.

"She's here!" Dylan yells as he spots us and he wraps his arms around me.
"Jesus you're ripped." He says as he pulls away.
"Watch it Dyl, I bet she could break you." Cara says with a chuckle and we continue our way towards the others.
"It's great to see you Y/N." Thomas says as he pulls me into a hug. I hug him back and I then hug Colton next.
"Still hitting the gym I see." Colton says with a chuckle as he slaps me playfully on the arm.
We all take a seat at the bar. I order myself a beer and so does Cara.
"So why are we out tonight Dylan, are you finally coming out of the closet?" Cara asks with a smirk and Dylan chokes on his beer before spitting it everywhere.
"I'm not gay!"
"Are you sure?" Thomas says and I chuckle softly.
"Because I mean that one time we saw you in a very compromising position." Colton adds and Dylan continues to get flustered and I can't stop laughing as I take another drink of my beer.
"I'm getting married!" He finally yells causing us all to stop and stare at him wide eyed.
"No way!" Cara yells and he nods his head yes.
"Who would marry you?" Cara says, causing me to nudge her playfully. She looks at me and chuckles.
"She would." Dylan says as he nods his head across the bar as a bright smile forms on his lips.
We follow his line of sight and I feel a smile pulling at my lips.
Alexis Bledel, the only girl who ever could whip Dylan into shape.
"I thought they broke up at college?" I hear Thomas say and I shrug my shoulders because I thought the same.
"I guess they reconnected a couple of months ago." Colton says as he takes a drink of his beer.
We watch our best friend run through the bar and he slips on his ass causing us all to lose it in laughter. Alexis quickly helps him up and the smiles on both of their faces is enough to fill my cold heart with warmth. I couldn't be happier for the two.
The two make their way towards us and once Alexis sees us all she gives us each a big hug. She saves me for last and smiles genuinely at me.
"How are you Y/N?" She asks as she takes a seat next to me.
"I'm doing alright." I say before taking a drink of my beer.
"How are you?" I ask as I look at the girl who has a glow about her.
"I'm great! I've never been better honestly!" She says and I feel her hand grab my arm that has a sleeve of tattoos now.
"Wow, these are beautiful." She says as her eyes scan the artwork I had done to my arm. But once her eyes land on the main one I watch them fill with sadness.
"She'd be four next month." I say and Alexis looks at me sadly.
"How is she?" I can't help but ask and I watch her eyes widen in surprise.
"She's good. She graduated from Yale and is going to Medical school to become a doctor." Alexis says and I'm honestly surprised by the news. I didn't know Blake had any interest in becoming a doctor.
"Wow, I didn't know she wanted to become a doctor."
"Well she decided after.." and she stops herself before she can finish and I nod my head understanding.
But our talk is short lived as three very familiar faces walk into the bar. Alexis smiles brightly and I hear the guys beside me nearly choke on their beers at the sight of their ex girlfriends.
I watch Alexis run to her best friends and I can't help but smile. But I also feel uneasy, I wonder if she's coming.
The three spot us at the bar and smiles grace their lips as they walk towards us. The girls all greet me first because I'm still their favorite.
"Y/N you look great!" Aspen says as she hugs me before pulling away.
"I don't think we've ever seen you this ripped before." Jordana says as she hugs me next.
"And with a sleeve of tattoos. Are you trying to make me fall in love with you?" Megan says with a playful smirk and I can't help but chuckle. I know she's doing this to make Cara jealous. And I can see the blonde out of the corner of my eye ready to break her beer bottle.
"You guys know I got these in college." I say with a chuckle before I take a drink.
"Yes but we haven't seen them in person!" Jordana says and I nod my head knowing that's true.
"Look at this, the gangs all here." Dylan says as he wraps his arms around Alexis before kissing her head.
"Well not everyone." Colton says and we all look at him and he shrugs his shoulder before taking a drink of his beer.
"She should be coming though." Aspen says and I feel my heart clench in my chest. But my face remains emotionless as I try to not let it show.
"I told her the right time." Megan says as she pulls her phone out.
We hear the door chime and all of our eyes shift towards it.
And for the first time in four years my eyes land on the woman who stole my heart. The woman who gave birth to my daughter.
But a frown quickly forms on my face as I notice she's not alone. A man stands next to her with his arm almost possessive like around her waist.
I quickly look away before our eyes can meet and I turn my back to her. I ask the bartender for another beer because I know I'm going to need it.
