《Chasing Prom Queen》Chapter 16

Holly's POV

The summer was over before we knew it. Both of us spent nearly every waking minute together, from work to just hanging out with friends. We did it together. We even handed in our notices at work together.

It wasn't all plain sailing. While I had a relatively easy coming out the same could not be said for Kyla. Her parents found out through the grapevine before Kyla got home from prom. Granted she didn't go home until the following morning. We spent the whole night just talking, about everything and nothing, it was the best night we've spent together.

After a long and difficult talk, they agreed to meet me. That was a tortuously awkward night but I did it for Kyla. Yeah, it was plain to everyone that they didn't like me, they see me as the villain who seduced their daughter away from the prosperous two-point-four life style they had planned for her. To them she's going through a phase and will come to her senses in college. It's not ideal but if it keeps them on speaking terms to paint me as the devil incarnate, I'm happy to play along.

Kyla tries not to show how much their refusal to see how happy she is hurts her but I know her too well. At the end of the day they are her parents.

This was easily the best and most carefree summer I've ever had. I introduced Kyla and Mason properly and he introduced us to his sister and nephew. She regaled us with stories of little Mason and offered us a safe place to all be ourselves. It was easy to see why Mason respected her so much.

Tanya and Laurie spent the whole of the first encounter with Kyla quizzing and threatening her. She passed with flying colours, barely batting an eyelid when they started with the twenty questions. I did put a stop to it though when Tanya started on the graphic questions. It didn't take long before they were texting Kyla before they were texting me. Glad I could be of use setting up this new friendship.

My parents accepted Kyla back into the house with a massive hug and got straight to the point at stating how stupid they thought I had been over everything. We started to spend more time down stairs with mum and dad in the nights Kyla stayed over, my arm firmly planted around my girlfriend. Enjoying the settled feeling of a family night in.

I put the last box down and look around. This is it, we're in college. All of mine and Kyla's belongings are squeezed into this dorm room. I straighten up and look around our first home together. Two bed, although only one is needed, one set up for sleep the other as a sofa. Two tall chest of drawers, although I've already lost two draws to Kyla. Two desks currently laden down with boxes. The furniture is cheap and basic looking but it's ours for the year. It feels like a paradise.

An arm circles around my waist followed by another one.

"We did it. We're finally here together." Kyla murmurs by my ear. "Now we just need to get rid of the families and we can christen the new place."

I spin around in her arms so I can take in her face. Placing a kiss on her plumb lips. "Our first home, Cariad."
