《Sweetest Escape.》CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

It's July 21, the day that has been much anticipated by Kofi and Thembisa. Three years of being in love with each other and they are about to walk down the aisle. The journey of becoming the Mrs wasn't easy but it managed to happen through perseverance. Thembisa just finished taking a shower and she walks into the room where she finds the makeup artist already waiting for her.

After two hours of getting her makeup done, a hairstylist starts doing magic on her hair. Her hair is curled, swooped to the side and a crown is placed on her head making her truly feel like a queen. Once her hair is done, she joins her bridesmaids that are on the balcony taking pictures. While they are taking pictures, there's a knock on the door and Jasmine goes to the door and returns with a small gift bag for the beautiful bride. She looks inside the gift bag and pulls out a note handwritten to her by her man.

To the most beautiful woman on earth, thank you for choosing me. I can't wait to see you at the alter and to make you my wife. Love, your husband to be.

After reading the note she pulls out a small red jewelry box that has a beautiful pair of diamond earrings. She also pulls out a white garter with her new initials which makes her smile. Her aunties from her dads side walk into the room dressed in their traditional Nigerian attire which is absolutely amazing and they help her get dressed.

Once she is fully dressed, she stands in front of the mirror staring at this beautiful woman that has had a complete transformation in the last three years. You can see how confident she has become, the radiance on her face and how excited she is to marry the man of her dreams. She gets some pictures taken before they join hands to pray for a successful day.

In a different room, Kofi has been having a stressful morning. The wedding rings were nowhere to be found and it took over thirty minutes to realize where they were, it turns out he had left them at his place so he had to drive all the way back home to get them. Now that the ring issue has been resolved, he has calmed down and he can start getting ready. As he is taking his tux out from the garment bag, Elijah walks into his room with a wedding gift for him. He takes out the note which reads,

To my hunk, my adonis, my lover, I cannot wait to marry you. Thank you for choosing me to join you on this journey and I love you to the moon and back. Love, your wife to be.

He takes out a pair of personalized cuff links as well as the watch that he had told her that he always wanted. He puts the gifts aside and he starts getting dressed. He opted for the traditional wedding tux, a black and white jacket with a white shirt and black pants. He grabs his sponge and quickly fixes his sponge before he is happy with how he looks. He takes a few pictures with his groomsmen and they head to the ceremony area just in time for the ceremony to begin.

When he gets to ceremony area, the wedding planner pins a white rose boutonnière on his jacket before he walks down the aisle. The guests cheer and whistle as he walks down the aisle with Ms Cassie. He picked her as the person he would walk down the aisle with because of the role she has in his life plus the impact she has made on him. He spots his father among the guests, whom he smiles to. His father would probably have wanted to walk his son down the aisle but he understands the situation and how they can't just fake things.

He stands at the top of the altar and his hands become clammy as he waits for his bride. He is a ball of emotions as he waits for Thembisa because the day he has long awaited has come and he can't wait to marry her. Some minutes later, the bridesmaids walk down the aisle looking stunning in their champagne dresses and they join the groomsmen who are dressed in black tuxes. After a few more minutes of waiting, the reverend asks the guests to stand for the bride.

"May we all rise for the entrance of the bride"

The violin starts playing and Kofi looks down the aisle where he finds his beautiful bride walking towards him with her father on her arm. Tears threaten to leave his eyes as he takes in how beautiful she looks. Her veil covers her face but he still catches a glimpse of how stunning she looks. Her dress is absolutely beautiful and she just looks so angelic in that white gown. He doesn't realize he is in a gaze until his best man hits his shoulder so he can listen.

"Who gives this woman to this man?" the reverend asks

"I do" Thembisa's father says and places Thembisa's right hand in Kofi's left hand.

He helps her up the steps and they face each other. The reverend instructs Kofi to lift her veil and he is taken aback when he finally gets a good look at her. From her hair to her makeup she looks absolutely amazing.

"You look beautiful" Kofi says which causes her to smile.

"You look very handsome" she adds and they turn their attention to the reverend who starts the ceremony.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here on this beautiful Saturday afternoon to witness the union of Kofi Anani and Thembisa Abel-Obi. We can all agree that they both look stunning and that their love for each other is permeating through the air. Before I continue, is there anyone who objects the union of these two, speak now or forever hold your peace." the reverend says and they both turn towards the guests to see if there are any objections. Thembisa has an obsessed ex so seeing him stand to object the wedding would not come as a surprise. Luckily there is no one there to object the union.

"If there are no objections then I will continue by reading from the book of 1 Corinthians chapter 13 from verse 4 which reads, love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

I have known Kofi and Thembisa for over a month now. When they started coming for pre-marital counseling and I could tell how much they love each other. When you're around them, you don't question whether they love each other or not because it's very apparent. They are the perfect fit for each other and whenever Kofi is speaking and he loses his train of thought, Thembisa always knows how to complete his sentence." the reverend continues with his sermon and once he is done, he asks them to say the vows they wrote for each other.

"Thembisa, my queen, my woman, my lover. You walked into my life over three years ago and you made a huge impact. I fell for you the first time we met and I'm thankful to Jasmine from bringing you out that night because that is the night I realized that us meeting was not merely coincidental but it was meant to be. It was you beauty, your aura, your poise that drew me but once you let me in, I was enticed by your entire being. What I love about you the most and what made me go down on one knee was your ability to love me as I am, with all my flaws. I can't thank you enough for loving me at my high points and at my lowest points because that kind of love isn't common. You are truly heaven sent and I will spend eternity showing you how much I appreciate you for choosing to join me on this journey. Je t'aime mon amour." Kofi says before kissing her hand.

"That was beautiful. May we have the rings" the reverend says and Kofi's best man brings the rings forward.

"Kofi repeat after me. I, Kofi Anani take you Thembisa Abel-Obi to be my lawfully wedded wife. I promise to love and protect you all the days of my life. I promised to stand by you in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer, till death do us part" Kofi repeats after the reverend and slides the diamond band on her finger.

"Thembisa Please repeat after me. I, Thembisa Abel-Obi take you Kofi Anani to be my lawfully wedded husband. I promise to love and honor you all the days of my life. I promise to stand by you in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer, till death do us part" Thembisa repeats and slides the ring on his finger.

"What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. With the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife. Kofi, you may now kiss your bride" the reverend says.

They seal their union with a passionate kiss which Thembisa has to stop by pushing Kofi away because he was getting a little too carried away.

"It gives me great honor to present to you for the very first time, Mr and Mrs Anani" he says and the crowd cheers as the newlyweds walk down the aisle.

The couple is congratulated by their friends and family and they go take photos. After over an hour of taking photos, the couple walks into the reception in different outfits. Thembisa is now dressed in a blush pink gown made by a Nigerian designer and she has gele which is a head wrap. Her husband has only changed from the traditional black and white jacket to a blush pink one to suit the theme of the wedding.

"Ladies and gentleman, please put your hands together and help me welcome the freshest couple in town, Mr and Mrs Anani" the master of ceremony says and the guests erupt into cheers and an applaud.

They make their way to the dance floor that is lit up with their names and they have their first dance. Dry ice surrounds them as they sway to the beautiful sound of the live band singing Best Part by H.E.R and Daniel Caesar. When they look into each others eyes, everyone else disappears and they are left in their own world. The song is about three minutes yet this moment feels like eternity. After the first dance, they make their way to their table and dinner is served. Afterwards, their family and friends give them well wishes and heartfelt speeches.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Daniel and Kofi is my brother. I consider Kofi as my older brother because he has always taken care of me. I remember the day we first met because he saved my life. I got mugged on my way to res when he intervened and that's how our friendship started. We all thought he was being delusional when he told us that he wanted to marry Thembisa the first time he met her yet here we are celebrating their union. I just want to say I'm happy for the two of you and I wish you nothing but happiness, health and beautiful babies. Thank you."

"Good evening everyone. I'm Mr Olaore and I consider Kofi as my son. One thing I have learnt from observing Kofi and Thembisa is that love has the ability to heal and bring peace to ones soul. I listen to the way Kofi speaks about Thembisa and I know that she is loved wholesomely by this man. I have known him for years and he has never been this happy and I'm glad he found someone who can make him genuinely happy. I wish the two of you love and joy in your marriage."

"Hi everyone, my name is Chi and Thembisa is my cousin. We grew up together so when I see her, I see my younger sister. When I first heard about Kofi, I knew he was special because she had never spoken to me about a guy. The first time I met him, I instantly liked him. He is kind, caring, gentle, funnier than Thembisa and I just liked how he complemented her. Thembisa has been waiting for this day since I could remember and I'm so happy that her dream has come true. Thank you Kofi for coming into her life and accepting her as she is. I wish you happiness and love in your marriage."

"Good evening ladies and gents. I'm Mr Abel-Obi, Thembisa's father. When Thembisa first told me that she had met someone that she believed was the one, I got a bit worried because I thought she would end up with a broken heart because I see how these boys treat their women nowadays. They did have their ups and downs but I'm glad they made it this far. I wish you the absolute best in your marriage and I just want to officially welcome you into our family son."

"Can I get all the single ladies on the dance floor" the master of ceremony says after the cake is cut and some ladies go onto the dance floor. Thembisa throws her bouquet and her friend Pearl catches it. Kofi goes under Thembisa's dress and removes her garter which is caught by his friend Elijah. After dancing with their loved ones, Kofi and Thembisa make speeches to end the night.

"Thank you very much for coming to witness and celebrate my union with my wife. It feels good to finally call her my wife and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us. I appreciate each and every one of you for coming. God bless" Kofi says

"Like my handsome husband said, we appreciate you all for traveling from different parts of the world to celebrate with us. It has been a journey filled with love, heartbreak, growth and I'm thankful to you all for coming to witness our union. Travel safely and have a good night" Thembisa says and the wedding concludes.

It's one in the morning when the newlyweds make it to their room. Thembisa is exhausted and puts off love making which she feels bad about but her husband understands. She knows that she'll have to make it up to her husband and that's what she'll do on their honeymoon.
