There's a bitter sweet feeling inside me as I close the carton and look around my empty closet one last time.

This is it, the last moments in my first apartment in New York.

I push the box out of the closet and look at the desk and the bed.

It looks so empty without sheets and any kind of decoration. I spent a good time in here but everything comes to an end eventually. Even though I spent about the last month at Scarlett's house, it still feels weird to move out of this apartment.

With a sigh, I take the box and walk down the stairs into the living room. My eyes scan over every thing one last time, looking if I forgot anything but it doesn't seem so.

Everything in here was here when I moved in, nothing here belongs to me anymore.

I look to Scarlett, who's standing in the little hallway, waiting for me. She doesn't rush me and lets me say goodbye to this apartment.

I remember the first time she and Rose visited me here and how excited I was. That night was amazing and even though I leave this place, I will take the memory with me.

I walk over to Scarlett and on the way there, I grab the keys from the counter. Scarlett smiles softly at me and takes the box from my hands. I smile at her in thanks and look around once more, before we walk out and I close the door, locking it.

"This is it." I mumble and look at the door for a few more seconds before I turn around and follow Scarlett downstairs.

As agreed with the landlord, I throw the keys into the mailbox and leave the apartment building.

One last time, I glance up at it before I go to the car, where Scar puts the box into the trunk, next to the others.

I don't have a lot of belongings, which makes moving easier but still a few and we decided to pack them up and bring them to Scarlett's place for now.

We have plans to go to a furniture store later today, where we will buy everything I need in my new apartment. But before we do that, we have to pick up Rose from her sleepover.

We drive in silence, only the radio playing quietly.

I'm in thoughts, thinking about how fast everything happened since I moved here. I never would have dared to dream, to find such an amazing job so soon after moving here but I did.

And to top it off, it also pays enough for me to afford an apartment relatively close to my girlfriend's residence.

Scarlett's right hand rests on my thigh, giving me some comfort. I glance over to her, she's concentrating on the traffic, her side profile as beautiful as ever.

She seems to notice me looking at her because a small smile tugs on her lips and she squeezes my thigh lightly.

"Are you sad to leave your apartment behind?" She asks and side glances at me before looking back at the street.

"A little, yeah. It was the first apartment I ever lived in all by myself. Back in college I lived in a dorm, so that doesn't count." I tell her and she smiles again.

"That is a big step." She agrees and holds at a redlight. "I am so proud of you for building up a life here in New York, it's really not easy but you still did it."

I blush a little at her genuine tone and put my hand over hers, giving it a little squeeze.

"Thank you. I am also proud of myself and even though I am a little sad to leave my apartment behind, I am excited to move." I say and she smiles before continuing to drive.

"I can imagine. It's always exciting to move and especially when the apartment is so nice." She adds and I smile, leaning my head against the seat and humming in agreement. We stay silent for the rest of the drive.

After bringing the boxes to Scarlett's house, we get into the car again to pick up Rose.

Rose appears to be pretty awake for someone who just came from a sleepover. I remember being tired when my Mom picked me up because we would stay up late and goof around and talk about everything and nothing. But Rose greets us happily before saying goodbye to her friends and getting into the car.

She only has one bag with her, so it doesn't take up a lot of space when we buy furniture.

On the way to the store, Rose tells us everything about the sleepover and how one of her friends told a scary story when it was dark and then the mother knocked on the door and they all jumped.

I eye Rose through the rearview mirror to make sure she is okay and not still shaken up about the situation but she seems just fine.

She's also excited to go to the store with us and sways her legs a little in the air, which is pretty cute.

Scarlett drives into the parking lot and finds a free spot.

We get out of the car and Rose bounces a little on her feet in excitement.

I look at the store and feel some excitement bubble up as well.

Back at home, we barely went to furniture stores but the few times we went were always fun and now that I am an adult, I can actually buy things and don't have to ask my parents for everything.

I get a cart, which consists of a smaller basket at the handle and a longer, platform like thing close to the ground. Rose grins at me and sits down on the platform but frowns a bit.

"What is it, little dolphin?" I ask.

"It's uncomfortable." She says and pads the metal underneath her.

"Well, that's because it's supposed to be functional." Scarlett explains. I shrug and gesture for Rose to make room. She does so and I sit down as well, patting my lap for her to sit on. She cheers a little and sits in my lap, leaning against me.

"That's way better." She decides happily. I look up at Scarlett, who raises her eyebrows with an amused expression on her face.

"Can you push us? Pleaaaaase?" I ask and make my best puppy dog eyes at her. She rolls her eyes playfully.

"Get a girlfriend, they said. It'll be fun, they said." She mutters lightly but the smile in her face gives away that she doesn't mind at all.

I throw her an air kiss that she catches and puts into her pocket before pushing us into the store.

"Okay, we need: A double bed, a dresser, a desk and a chair for my room. And then a bed and a toybox for the spare room." I read off the list I wrote.

I also wrote down how much space we have for the different pieces of furniture, having measured the rooms when I last visited the apartment.

"Uhh and can we get a shelf for the spare room? Like a bookshelf where I can put my coloring and normal books in?" Rose asks and turns her head in my direction. I nod and write it down onto the list.

"What about decorations?" Scarlett asks as she navigates us towards the bed section.

"I need that too but first I wanted to see which furniture I'll buy to match the decorations." I tell her and she hums and nods. "Alright."

We enter the bed section and I gently lift Rose off me, to be able to walk around. Rose also gets up, looking around on her own. We tell her not to run away too far and to stay in our sight. She agrees and looks at the different beds.

I scan over the collection they have and whenever I find a bed that seems to be fitting with the measurements I took before, I take a closer look. Scarlett follows me and looks at well, commenting on some but letting me decide since it's my apartment.

When I find a bedframe that I like, I point it out to her.

"What do you think about this one?" I ask and she takes a closer look, slowly nodding.

"I like the wooden frame and the headboard is a little padded, so you can lean against it comfortingly without always using a pillow." She says and I nod.

"Yes, that's what I like about it too. I just like wooden optics because they make the room a little warmer, you know?" I ask and she hums and nods.

"What about the price?" She asks, searching for the little sign with all the information. I hold it up.

"It's okay, maybe a bit more expensive but considering that I sleep in it every night, I think that's okay." I say and hand her the sign. She looks at it and nods.

"Yeah, seems about right." She agrees and puts the sign down.

"Wanna lay down to see if it's comfortable?" I ask, already sitting down and putting my feet onto the mat at the end of the matrass.

Scarlett lays down next to me, turning her head to look at me and I do the same.

"You do know that's the matrass you're testing right now, right?" She asks with a tiny chuckle but I wave it off.

"Maybe but if it was super uncomfortable, it may would have to do with the frame but it doesn't, so the bed passed the test." I point out and she laughs a little.

"Fair enough."

We get up again and I note down the number of the product, so we can find it easier later. Scarlett searches the section for Rose and smiles when she find the girl laying on a bed.

"Seems like Rose found a bed she likes as well." She tells me and I look up.

"That may be a little hard to fit into the spare room." I point out and Scar laughs. We approach Rose, who lays in a king-sized bed, limbs stretched to the side, making her look like a star fish.

"I like this one." She tells us and grins up at us. I sit down on her side, ruffling her hair a bit.

"I'm afraid it won't fit into the room." I tell her and she sits up.

"It will, if you don't put other furniture in there." She argues with a little grin. I bop her nose.

"Little smarty pants. But I would like other furniture in there as well, so we maybe should look for a singular bed." I explain and she sighs but nods.

"Fine."

Scar watches our interaction delighted and lifts Rose off the bed before guiding her into the single bed part of the section. Rose looks around and her serious face is adorable as she judges different beds. She stops in front of one and looks at it from different angles.

"This is nice." She says and looks up at us. I slowly nod and look at the bed.

"The drawers under the bed are indeed practical to put spare sheets and duvets in." I think out loud and Rose nods slowly.

"And, since there is no room under the bed, there can't be any monsters." She says and points to the bottom of the bed. I have to hold back a chuckle, not wanting her to feel judged or in any way bad for thinking there are monsters under her bed.

"That is also a very reasonable argument." I agree and she nods, a little proud to have helped.

"Can I lay down to test it?" She asks and I gesture for her to go on as I check the prize. It's surprisingly cheap and when Rose confirms it's comfortable, I note it down as well.

We move over to the matrasses. Rose tells us she'll find one for the single bed, promising to stay close though. Scarlett and I go lay on a few but aren't happy with them. We lay down on another one and I almost know instantly, that this is the one. It's the right balance between soft but not too soft.

"This is it." I tell her and look at her. She looks at me and bounces a little, which looks a little ridiculous and makes me laugh.

"Yep, this one is perfect." She agrees and turns to look at me. Her eyes quickly look around before a tiny smirk forms on her lips.

"Just the right softness to lay someone down and make them feel good while also being able to do it a little rougher if liked." She whispers and a shiver runs down my spine at her words, giving me flashbacks from last night.

The faint blush on my cheeks tells her what I am thinking about and she smirks happily before kissing my nose.

"Let's write its number down." She says and sits up to grab the little sheet as if she didn't just tell me she wants to fuck me on this matrass. I take a little breath to contain myself and get up, writing down the number.

We search for Rose, who is trying out different matrasses. Her method of testing them is adorable.

She flops down onto them and bounces her body a little before snuggling into it a little more. It is quite entertaining to watch. When she stays on one, she nods happily and we walk closer. As soon as she notices us, she grins happily.

"This is the one." She tells us and I sit down next to her. It feels good and as if it is the right mix between soft and hard. But it doesn't really matter what I think after all because Rose's opinion matters most.

I nod to Scarlett and she writes the number down while I help Rose off the bed. Scar nods towards the little sheet, so I can take a look at the price. It's reasonable and I give her a little nod back, telling her it's okay.

"When are we getting the beds?" Rose asks and takes my hand, swinging them between us while we walk through the store.

"In the end. We first see what we want to buy and write it down and in the end, we go buy it." I explain and point to the note with the numbers. Rose nods and purses her lips a little in thought.

"How will all of it fit into Mommy's car? We can't fit a whole bed in there." She thinks out loud and I smile a little.

"No, that's true but when we buy it, it's not built together yet, we still have to do that. So, we only have the pieces and those will fit in the car." Scar explains to Rose and she looks a little surprised.

"But I thought we can just bring it into Mama's apartment and then it's done?" She asks and looks between us. I brush over her hair.

"Sadly no, we need to build them together."

Rose hums and nods slowly, accepting that fact.

We are now in the dresser section and Scarlett puts the cart to the side, so we can walk around and look at the different dressers.

Rose patiently walks with us and looks at the different pieces of furniture, not seeming very interested but not complaining either.

We find one that's in combination with a cupboard and I write the number down. It's quite expensive but I will need something to put my clothes into and this has the right size.

As we are about to leave this section, Rose stops and I look at her.

"What is it, sweetie?" I ask and she looks from me to the dressers.

"You also need one for your spare room." She points out and I tilt my head a little in question.

"You have a bed in there, so you also need a dresser. People who sleep wear clothes." She explains and I hear Scarlett chuckling a little bit at that argument.

"That is true." I agree with Rose and she nods.

For the plans I have for this room, I indeed need a dresser there.

Not one as big as mine but it at least should have some drawers.

So, we continue to walk around and now Rose seems a bit more interested and points some pieces out. We slowly move towards the children's ones and Rose's eyes light up and she lets go of my hand to run to one.

"This one." She calls and Scar and I make our way over to where Rose is. She points at the dresser shelf combination behind her. I take a closer look. It has a few drawers on the bottom that fit enough clothes and above those, there are shelfs.

"See, there would fit some books nicely." Rose says and gestures inside the shelf. I smile and nod.

"I see." I agree and Rose beams up at me.

"Will you buy it?" She asks and looks at me. I look back at the piece of furniture and read the little sheet. It's not too expensive and due to the combination of dresser and shelf, it saves room. I slowly nod.

"That will fit very well." I say and write it down. Rose cheers, proud to be helpful again. Scar ruffles her hair a little and pulls her closer to wrap her arms around the girl.

"Now we only need a toybox." Rose says and leans against her mother.

"And a desk and a chair." I add and Rose nods, waving it off because that's not interesting to her.

The desk and chair are quickly found but they're not available right now, so I have to order them and they will be delivered soon.

Finding a toybox turns out to be a bit more work than I originally thought because Rose looks at every possibility closely, running back and forth between some. It slowly narrows down to two and Rose stands in front of them, her hands on her hips and her eyes focused on the boxes.

"Which one is better?" She asks towards us but continues to look at the boxes. I look between the two of them.

"This one." I point to the left one. "It has wheels underneath, so you can push it around if you need it to be somewhere else."

Rose nods slowly, taking my argument into consideration.

"I agree and the material is a bit lighter, so the lid won't be so heavy." Scarlett adds and Rose hums. She looks between the two boxes one more time before turning around.

"Okay, I will take that one." She beams and points towards the one we just talked about. I write down the number while Rose tells us which toys she could fit in there.

"Oh and since I now have more space for toys, I can have that one set of fish now." Rose grins and looks from Scarlett to me. I shrug, having no clue what she is talking about. Scarlett's eyes soften a little bit and she looks at me.

"We saw a set of toys with different underwater animals but so far I never bought it for her because she doesn't have space in her toy box at home." Scar explains and I nod. Rose tugs on my hand, so I look at her.

"We saw it after we met you on the train and you told me so much about dolphins." She tells me and I feel my heart soften at the fact that Rose seems to remember that day as well.

"Can I have that playset for the toybox at your apartment?" She asks and takes my hand, looking at me with her best puppy dog eyes and a little pout.

The sight lets my heart melt but I still look at Scarlett to make sure she is on board. She smiles at me and shrugs, leaving the decision to me. I smile down at Rose.

"You can have it." I tell her and she gets out of her mother's arms to hug me tightly before jumping up and down in excitement and cheering.

"Thank you, Mama!" She cheers and I smile at her.

"You're welcome, sweetheart." I reply and watch her happily eying the toybox again, probably imagining to fill it with the new toys.

We move on and now that we have all the furniture, I can look at decorations.

I won't buy a lot for now, I just spent a good amount of money on furniture but I want at least a bit of decoration to make the place more comfortable.

Some plants that don't need too regular watering make their ways into our cart and so do some smaller carpets that will be placed on either side of the bed.

Rose points out a round carpet she likes a lot and I recollect which objects we already bought and if it'll fit into the spare room before agreeing.

I can feel Scarlett's eyes on me and when I look at her, she seems to be in thought, so I let her think.

Rose runs around the decoration section and while I pick out two candles and some sheets for the new single bed, she darts around the children's decoration.

"Mama, Mama, can we buy those?" She asks and I turn around when she calls for me. I chuckle a bit when I see her struggling a bit to carry three picture frames with drawings of animals in them, colorful framed.

"They're for the spare room." She explains before I can answer anything. I look at them again and they are pretty cute.

"Yes, we can." I agree and Rose grins and puts them into the cart before taking off again. When I turn to the cart, I notice Scarlett softly smiling at me.

"What?" I ask and she shakes her head with a little smile.

"You're turning the spare room into Rose's room?" She asks and I blush a little, feeling caught.

"Maybe." I answer and her smile widens.
