After turning off the alarm on my phone, I let my head fall back into the pillow and a little smile creeps onto my face.

Today's my birthday. It's not really anything special but the thought does make me smile, or maybe it's the thought of Scarlett and Rose coming to my place later this day, I don't know.

Suddenly my phone starts to ring and I am a little startled, who would call me this early in the morning?

I pick up my phone and am surprised to see it's Scarlett. Worried, something might happened, I take the call. But before I can say anything, she already cheers.

"Happy birthday, angel!" She says, her voice still a little raspy from her sleep but her mood apparently great. A wide smile appears on my face.

"Thank you, baby." I reply and lay back again.

"How does it feel to be 26?" She asks and I hear the smile in her voice.

"You should know, you've been there yourself." I tease a little and she huffs and I can see how she rolls her eyes at that comment.

"Do you feel old yet?" She ignores my comment, making me chuckle a little.

"Not really. Although I liked the age 25, it's such a nice number." I answer and hear her giggle a little.

"What's so great about 25?" She asks softly.

"Well, my favorite number is five and there's one in there, so that's a win. And to top it off, five times five equals 25. It's just my favorite number multiplied with itself, so how couldn't it be great?" I explain and Scar starts to laugh, which makes me grin a little, her laugh just makes me happy.

"You're a dork sometimes, but you're my dork and I love that about you." She says when her laugh dies down and my heart warms up at her words.

"I love you too." I reply.

"Why are you already awake? Don't you have like half an hour before you need to wake up and get you and Rose ready for school?" I ask and sit up because I need to get ready myself.

"I do but I wanted to wish you a happy birthday right after you wake up." She explains and my heart melts a little at her words.

"You are the sweetest, do you know that?" I say and get up, placing my phone between my ear and my shoulder while I pick out an outfit.

"I won't argue about this because it is your birthday, so thank you, baby." She replies and I chuckle a little.

"What are your plans for today?" I ask while taking my clothes and going downstairs.

"I'll drop off Rose at school, then I probably will run some errands and get a coffee in between." She tells me and if I was with her, I am a hundred percent sure, she would wink at me right now.

"So, I should expect you coming by today?" I ask, getting her hint.

"Mhm, after all, it's your birthday and I won't wait until tonight to see you." She answers and I smile, dropping off my clothes in the bathroom.

"Alright, then I guess we'll see each other at the coffeeshop today." I say and she hums in agreement.

"I'm afraid I got to go, bug." I say and she makes a whiney sound.

"Whyyyy? Do you need to leave for work already?" She asks while probably pouting. I chuckle a bit.

"No but I need to take a shower and get ready." I explain.

"You know, we can change to video chat and you could put your phone onto the sink, facing the shower." She says suggestively and I laugh a little.

"You would want to see me shower?" I ask and put her on speaker to be able to move around my bathroom.

"Of course, I get to see my girlfriend naked. How could I say no to that?" She asks back and I stifle a laugh and nod.

"Fair enough. But you need to get up soon yourself and so does Rose and I really don't need her to catch you starring at your naked girlfriend." I say and she huffs.

"I hate when you're reasonable in these kind of things." She mumbles and I chuckle.

"I'm sure you're gonna see me naked again soon." I tell her and she sighs a little.

"You're right. After all, I really liked the skin on skin contact last time." She agrees and her voice becomes a little softer, making me smile and butterflies appear in my stomach.

"I really liked that too and hopefully we can do it again some time soon." I reply and she hums.

After saying goodbye, we end the call and I step into the shower. I hurry up a little more than usual because I'm later but I don't mind at all. Talking to Scarlett already made my day so much better and I am looking forward to see her later in the shop.

Jesse greets me with a hug as I enter the shop and wishes me the happiest of birthdays. I smile widely and thank him before I get my apron.

While we take care of some customers, he asks me about my day so far and gets excited when I tell him about Scarlett calling me this morning.

It's cute how happy he is for me and when I think about not working here anymore, my heart aches a little because I know I will miss him a lot.

I already told my boss about the potential job switch and she was happy for me. I didn't sign anything yet but I am pretty sure that I'll get the job after being on a call with the organization yesterday.

They told me a bit more about my working schedule and stuff.

Now I know that I'll start in January, which isn't that far away anymore.

It excites me but also makes me a little sentimental at the same time because I got into a nice routine at my two jobs and really enjoy them.

But I also know that I can't keep this up forever. Apart from it still being stressful to work this much and to spend my break driving to the next place, I want to build up a proper live here in New York and for that I need a bit more money, that I can't get from my current jobs.

But even under all those aspects, I will still miss working with Jesse and talking to him about life and what's going on and sometimes gossiping over annoying customers.

I will tell him as soon as I signed the contract. Hopefully, we manage to stay in contact even when I don't work here anymore.

Around an hour later, my favorite blonde walks in and my heart beats faster when I see her. I walk around the counter and she pulls me into a long, loving hug, whispering 'happy birthday' into my ear before letting go of me and cupping my face. She kisses me shortly but sweetly and I blush at the sight of so much love in her eyes.

"Hey, babe." I grin and she smiles and lets her hands run down my arms, taking my hands.

"Hey, baby." She greets back and squeezes my hand. For a few seconds I get lost in her eyes before I remember where we are.

"Your usual order?" I ask and she smiles softly, nodding as an answer. I pull up her hands and kiss her knuckles before letting go of her and going back behind the counter to make her coffee.

"To go or for here?" I ask.

"To go, I need to buy groceries for tonight." She says and smirks secretively.

"What are you gonna cook tonight?" I try to sound casual but by the look on her face she knows that I'm excited about it.

"You will have to wait and see." She answers and I sulk at her before continuing to make her coffee.

"When will you be home?" She asks and leans against the counter a little, her eyes following my movements.

"Probably around 6:30." I reply and she nods.

"Thank you." She smiles when I hand her the coffee.

"You're welcome." I say and smile back, taking the money she gave me and putting it into the register.

"See you tonight, my love." She whispers, as if it's only supposed to be for my ears.

"I'm looking forward to it." I whisper back and she smiles widely before waving at me and leaving the store.

I look after her a few seconds, blissfully smiling at the fact that I am allowed to call this wonderful woman my girlfriend.

"You two are really adorable." Jesse comments and pulls me out of my thoughts with that. I smile at him in thanks and he returns it.

The rest of the day goes by rather quickly, which I am happy about because I can't wait to get home and see my girlfriend and her daughter.

My mood is great and I hum while walking the way from the subway station to my apartment.

When I come to a halt in front of my door, I can already hear light music playing and the voices of Scarlett and Rose.

I unlock the door and step in. Before I can even close the door, I hear quick footsteps and catch Rose who launched herself at me. She hugs me and I wrap my arms around her to keep her up, kicking the door closed.

"Happy birthday, Mama." Rose says and beams at me, her legs wrapping around my hips and I hold her up underneath her bum.

"Thank you, sweetie." I smile and she gives me a kiss on the cheek that makes my heart fill with pure love.

"Mommy and I made you dinner." She tells me and rests her arms on my shoulders while I get out of my shoes.

Since I have a child clung to me, I can't get out of my coat but I couldn't care less right now.

I walk into my kitchen with Rose, a tasty smell already filling the apartment. Scarlett smiles brightly at me when I enter and puts down the knife with which she was just chopping cucumber.

I look over the counter and see her preparing a salad but by the smell in my apartment, I can tell there's something in the oven as well.

"I helped Mommy with the food and she even let me cut the tomatoes." Rose tells me proudly and I look at her before kissing the top of her head.

"That's amazing, little dolphin." I say and she grins before wiggling a little, signaling me she wants down.

So, I put her down and she goes into my living room, sitting down at the coffee table and only now I notice that the coloring book I bought her is laying there along with some crayons.

I get out of my jacket and hang it up in the hallway before washing my hands and coming back into the kitchen. Scarlett is putting everything for the salad into a bowl and mixes it. Her eyes dart up to me when I reenter and she smiles. I return her smile and sit down on one of the bar stools.

"How was work?" She asks and I lean onto my arm that's resting on the counter.

"It was good, luckily it went by quickly though." I answer and give her a cheeky smile that she returns.

"So excited to have Rose and me at your apartment?" She asks but I shake my head.

"Excited about the food." I say and her face falters for a second before I laugh and get up to stand behind her, wrapping my arms around her and resting my chin on her shoulder.

"I'm kidding, I am more excited about you and Rose being here." I whisper and see her smile again.

"You better." She says and finishes to mix the salad.

I raise an eyebrow and when she turns around in my arms, she has a little smirk on her lips.

"I am way more interesting than the food." She says and kisses me. I return the kiss and lean my forehead against hers after pulling away.

"And you definitely taste better." I mumble and watch her face heat up, smirking at the reaction.

She pokes my side for that comment and I squeak a little, making her giggle.

"That was uncalled for." I playfully pout and she rolls her eyes but her expression is soft.

"So was your comment, there's a kid around." She murmurs but her eyes tell me she isn't really annoyed with me.

"So...it would be okay if she wasn't around?" I grin and Scarlett pushes me away a little with a grin.

I wiggle my eyebrows and she laughs. I smile at that sound before my eyes dart down to the oven and I try to figure out what's in there but all I can see is a cheese crust.

"What did you make?" I ask and Scar turns around to see what I'm looking at. She looks back at me and shrugs with a mischievous smile. I roll my eyes at her and pretend to be annoyed.

"Fine, don't tell me." I say and cross my arms, making her chuckle a bit.

"You'll find out soon enough and you'll love it." She promises and gently uncrosses my arms to kiss me sweetly.

I can't hold up a straight face when she kisses me and start to smile again.

"Done." Rose cheers and we turn around to her. She holds up her coloring book proudly and we walk over to take a closer look.

We sit down on the couch, leaving a space in the middle for Rose, who flops down there and displays her book on her knees.

"It is an underwater world, just like the ones we always draw." She tells us and looks at me. I nod and ruffle her hair a little.

"I decided to make the fish all in different colors because that always looks so pretty. But I made the turtle in a normal color because I felt like it." She explains further and points out what she's talking about.

She talks a little further about the picture and when I feel Scar looking at me, I look over and she mouthes a 'thank you', nodding towards the book. I smile at her in return before looking back to Rose who smiles happily at her work.

She puts the book down onto the coffee table and seems to remember something else, making her turn to me excitedly.

"Do you wanna get your presents?" She asks with big eyes and I smile softly at her.

"You got me presents?" I ask and look between Rose and Scar who both nod with secretive smiles. Scar glances at the time.

"You would have time to unpack them before dinner is ready." She tells me and Rose looks at me, almost pleadingly and I nod.

The girl cheers and gets up to run to the bag Scar had with her, bringing it with her and placing it on her mother's lap. Scarlett and I both smile at Rose's excitement that doesn't stop when she sits down, so she bounces a little on the spot.

"Can I give mine first?" She asks and looks to her mom, who nods and pulls out a rolled up paper.

Rose takes it and hands it to me with a wide grin, waiting for my reaction.

I take it and unroll it and my heart fills with happiness and love.

It shows an underwater world and two people diving down. One of them is smaller and has blonde locks while the other has y/h/c (your hair color) hair. It's obvious that this is supposed to be Rose and me on a diving trip and it's adorable.

I look at Rose and am about to say something but before I can say so, Rose stops me.

"I got another one." She tells me and takes the paper Scarlett gives her.

She hands it to me and as I open it, my heart completely melts and I honestly have to hold back a few tears.

It shows three people, Scarlett, Rose and me.

Rose is in the middle, holding hands with Scar and I. We are in a park, as there is grass and flowers beneath us and a tree on the side of the picture.

The sun is shining from one of the corners and we all smile widely.

There's a heart above our heads and Rose wrote the word 'family' into it.

The longer I look at the picture, the harder it gets to hold back my tears. I place the two drawing onto the table, so they don't get wrinkles and pull Rose into a tight hug. She giggles and hugs me back, visibly happy that I like her present.

"The pictures are amazing, sweetie, I love them. Thank you so much." I say after letting go of her and her face lights up as her smile becomes incredibly wide.

"You really like them?" She asks and I nod, cupping her face with one hand.

"They are very beautiful." I confirm and kiss her forehead. Rose beams at me and kisses my cheek, making my heart flutter in happiness. She cuddles into my side and I wrap one arm around her.

"Well, I don't know if my present can keep up with the drawings now." Scar says with a little chuckle and hands me an envelope.

I give her a sweet smile before opening the envelope. There's a card in there and I open it. My eyes fly over the written words and grow with each sentence before I finish and gap at my girlfriend.

"Do you like it?" She asks a little unsure. I look from the card to her, still in a mild shock.

"You...you organized a diving trip for me?" I ask, my words silent as I continue to process. She nods and bites her lip.

"Yeah. I pulled some strings and when it's warmer again, you can go on a diving trip in the ocean, just as you always dreamed about." She explains further and searches my eyes for more of a reaction.

I gap at her a few seconds longer as her words sink in.

I'm gonna go diving in the ocean. Not just in a tank at the aquarium or in a lake like at home, the real, wide ocean. Excitement overcomes me and if Rose wasn't snuggled into my side, I would throw myself onto Scarlett right now.

"Oh my god, that's amazing, I can't believe it. Thank you so, so much." I say, a huge smile on my face now.

Scarlett's expression is similar to mine and she puts down her bag to be able to hug me.

We pay attention not to squish Rose and I hug her tightly, whispering multiple 'thank you's into her ear. She beams at me and my reaction after I let go and I stare at the card for a few more seconds before also placing it down onto the coffee table.

"Wow, really! This might be the best birthday ever." I say honestly and Rose bounces excitedly while Scarlett looks at me with loving eyes.

"I am glad we could make your day so great." She says and leans over to give me a kiss.

I return it and pour all my love into it. It seems like she does the same and my whole body starts to tingle at the feeling.

We pull away after a few seconds though because Rose is still sitting between us and we don't want to make out in front of her.

A few minutes later, dinner is ready and we go to sit down at the kitchen isle and when I see what Scarlett cooked, I cheer a little, making her laugh. She made a whole freaking lasagna for my birthday. And when I taste it, I'm blown away by how good it tastes.

It's amazing and I can't stop praising it. Scarlett laughs at that and says she made a mental note that I like it. I grin and we continue to eat, chatting about our days in between.

I tell them about the call with my siblings and my mom during my lunchbreak and that I told my mom about bringing Scar and Rose home.

She was happy and excited to meet them and asked if there's anything she should look out for, foodwise. She also asked me a bunch of questions about the relationship that I patiently answered until I had to hang up because I had to work.

After all, it was a great call and now it's safe that Scarlett and Rose will come home with me, which makes me very, very happy.

They seem happy as well and Rose starts to talk about how she never was in a smaller town and that she can't wait to see everything.

Her excitement is adorable and we continue to talk a little about it while we put the plates into the sink and go to sit on the couch.

Rose gets a little energy boost after sitting for a while and we watch her go upstairs to play with some of her toys. I also allowed her to bounce a little on my bed as long as she is careful and we hear her giggle for a while. Scarlett and I talk further about Christmas and how we'll get there and which train we can take and when.

Soon, we don't hear anything of Rose anymore and I go up to check on her, to see she has fallen asleep on my bed. I smile and pull the covers over her to keep her warm and carefully grab her toys, so she won't lay on them. Scarlett looks as me when I come down.
