《The Stranger on the Train》Chapter 48: Cooking with Flo

Pov y/n
Flo and I both fell asleep pretty quickly and when my alarm woke me up this morning, she slept through it.
I was happy about that because I would have felt bad if she woke up from it. Even though it is my apartment and technically she should adjust to me, I want her to be comfortable here.
I got ready quickly and silent and went to work, grabbing breakfast on the way.
Since Scarlett will prepare for Thanksgiving tomorrow, she won't come to the coffeeshop today, which honestly bumps me a little out because it always made me happy to see her there but I totally get it.
Jesse and I talk about our plans for tomorrow and he wiggles his eyebrows when I tell him that I'm gonna be at Scarlett's.
I swat his hand away with which he was playfully poking my shoulder, telling him that there is nothing to wiggle his eyebrows about. And I'm not just saying it.
Of course, I thought about sleeping with Scarlett on her birthday or Thanksgiving but apart from the fact that Rose is there, there are also Lizzie and Robbie and I really don't need any of them hearing us or worse, walking in on us. I won't lie, seeing Scar in that dress on her birthday did make me want to not care about all that but I still did. We will find our moment without worrying about being disturbed or scaring a child.
Thinking about it like that sounds like I am horny teenager, which I'm not, it's just a really nice feeling to be so close and intimate with her.
Around eleven, I get a selfie from Scarlett, Lizzie and Flo, holding up a turkey and laughing into the camera. I smile at the picture and send back a quick reply. They are really cute together and it makes me happy to see Scarlett with her friends.
Around half an hour later, I receive a picture from Flo, posing in front of a full shopping cart and pretending to look at the clock while Scarlett hands the groceries to the cashier.
I chuckle at that and tell Flo to help Scarlett instead of making silly pictures. In return I get a selfie where she sticks out her tongue at me. I laugh at her goofiness and put my phone away to concentrate back on work.
It's quite full but most of the people want their coffee to-go, so when no one is waiting in line, Jesse and I don't really have anything to do and start to play tic-tac-toe on a paper.
Before I go, I check with my boss that I have a free shift the day after Thanksgiving and she confirms it.
The aquarium is also fuller than usual, probably because a lot of parents want to take their kids on a 'Thanksgiving-trip' but since everything is closed on the actual day, they do it a day before.
I really love my job and I adore children, I really do but today they do go on my nerves because no matter how often I tell them to please not knock on the glass, they still do it. When I send their parents an annoyed glare, they finally seem to wake up from their gaze and tell their children to stop it. It does more than when I said it but they still knock.
In between tours, I take a short break in our staff room and smile when I see the pictures I got sent.
Flo sent me one of her and Rose in the park, both in warm clothes and with red cheeks.

Lizzie sent me one of Scarlett cooking. It looks like she doesn't even notice that Lizzie took a picture. It looks actually quite adorable and I add it to my favorites.
My mood lifts a bit as I text them back and I send Flo a picture of me smiling and holding up a thumb up. In return I get a picture Rose, standing on a rock that she seemed to have climbed by the proud look on her face. I add that picture to my favorites as well and drink a sip of water before returning to my work.
The second tour is better and I feel my spirit lifted by the cute pictures and luckily this time the children don't knock on the glass.
It still is exhausting because the group is bigger and I need to speak louder and repeat myself a few times. There are also more question I have to answer, so I don't really have a break between tours and when I am all done, my throat feels a little sore from all the loud speaking.
I say my goodbye's to my coworkers and make my way outside. It got cooler than I expected and now I regret that I didn't bring gloves with me.
Luckily the subway is a bit warmer, so I don't freeze my ass off but my hands still feel like they're made out of ice and it takes longer than usual to write Scarlett a message, letting her know I'm heading home now.
She says she's excited for tomorrow and can't wait to see me. I feel the excitement bubbling up in myself and now that I'm done with work, I can look forward to Thanksgiving without having to think about doing my job the day before that.
I walk through the street to my apartment and look up at the sky. It's dark but as always New York is too bright itself to really see any stars. That's a little sad because I always felt like the stars would make a winter night somehow special, even more than a summer night.
When I arrive at my apartment, I smile when I hear Flo talking to someone in the kitchen while I get out of my coat and shoes and wash my hands.
I listen to her talk and notice that it's more like a narrowing of what she's probably doing.
When I step into the kitchen, I chuckle a little, seeing her with my apron, standing in front of the kitchen isle and talking to her phone that's propped up on a wild construction consisting of a water bottle, tupperware and a towel.
She notices me and smiles, waving at me. I wave back and take a picture of her construction before putting my phone down.
"I'm doing a cooking with Flo." She explains and points to her phone. I raise an eyebrow in question and she looks almost offended.
"You don't know what that is? And you call yourself my friend." She pretends to sob dramatically and I laugh at her antics.
"Well, I'm guessing it's you cooking and it seems like you're filming yourself while doing it." I observe and slowly approach her, looking at the chopped vegetables in front of her.
"You're smart." She teases and gestures towards her phone. "Usually, I'm uploading the clips in my story but today I decided to make a livestream." She explains further and I nod along. She scrunches her eyes a little to read the comments and smiles.
"They ask who I'm talking to. Come, show yourself." She grins and reaches out a hand for me.

I playfully roll my eyes and go to stand next to her. She wraps one arms around my shoulder and introduces me to her followers. I smile when I see little hearts being sent.
"What are you making?" I ask and my voice breaks in the middle of the sentence, making her frown at me.
"Why is your voice so sore?" She asks back, the livestream forgotten and turning to me. Concern shows in her eyes but I wave it off.
"I had to speak loud and a lot today, that's it." I explain but the concern stays on her face.
"Are you sure, you're not getting sick?" She asks and carefully feels my forehead. I shake my head and smile.
"No, I'm all good, just my voice is being a bit raspy." I explain, my voice breaking again in the middle of my sentence.
Flo nods and takes her hand off my face before looking around my kitchen. She finds what she was looking for and starts to boil water in my water boiler.
"I'll make you a tea and soon your voice is gonna be just as new." She says with a smile and her eyes sparkle with kindness. I smile sweetly at her.
"Thank you, you're so sweet." I say and she throws me an air kiss, at which I roll my eyes at, making both of us laugh.
"Back to my question though, what are you making?" I ask interested, inspecting what's displayed.
She comes back to me and points to the different ingredients.
"I'm making filled paprika. There are gonna be some vegetables in there and some rice and on the side a slice of chicken. But that I still have to make but I have enough time while the paprika is in the oven." She explains and just at her words, I feel my mouth watering.
"That sounds so good." I agree and she smiles brightly at me.
"Wanna help me cook?" She asks and I nod.
"But you got my apron." I point out teasingly and she huffs playfully and stretches out her arms.
"Fine, undress me then." She teases back and I laugh as she wiggles her eyebrows.
"Nah, it's okay, you can keep it, I'll just try to not spill anything on me." I wave it off and she pretends to be disappointed, at which I playfully nudge her shoulder.
"Don't pout now." I grin and she intensifies her pout while looking at me but her eyes sparkle in amusement.
"I was looking forward to you undressing me though." She sighs before grinning. I shake my head and let out a little giggle.
"So interested to see what I can do?" I ask and smirk a little. To my surprise she gets a little flustered but brushes it off and nods.
"I mean, I wouldn't mind." She replies and I roll my eyes at her with a grin.
The water is boiling now, so she leaves my side to make me a cup of tea. I hop onto the counter next to her phone, careful not to destroy the construction and wait for her to return. She hands me the hot cup and I place it in between my legs, opening them for that matter.
"So, no helping me cook?" She asks and eyes my position. I shake my head.
"I decide I will just watch you and sip my tea." I grin and she nods with a smile.
She continues her cooking and I watch and listen as she tells her followers what she's doing.
In between, I take little sips of my tea, the hot liquid feeling good and I warm up.
When my tea is done, I already feel my throat getting better and swing my legs a little, watching her put the paprika into the oven. Her eyes fall on me as she turns back around.
"Feeling better?" She asks and I nod, thanking her for the tea. Flo smiles and continues to cook, preparing the meat now.
"You know, somehow this feels like I'm your personal chef and entertainer." She laughs and points a fork at me. I chuckle and raise my hands in defeat.
"Hey, you wanted to cook. Besides, I wouldn't call you my personal chef and entertainer, more like a housewife." I tease and she purses her lips, holding back a laugh.
"Fine but I think I am very much skilled enough to be a personal chef." She insists and I nod with a grin.
With a satisfied nod, she continues to prepare the meat. When she has to turn around to use my stove, she seems to think a little before looking at me.
"Can you do me a favor and read some comments while I'm cooking the meat? I don't wanna ruin my wonderful structure." She asks and I nod, jumping off the counter and standing in front of her phone. I wave when I read people saying 'hi' to me.
"First question: What are you doing at y/n's?" I read out loud and turn around to look at Flo. She stirs the pan and turns her head for a few seconds before concentrating back on cooking.
"I'm staying here because we're celebrating Thanksgiving with Scarlett tomorrow." She explains and for a few seconds the comments go crazy, mainly consisting of the name of my girlfriend. But I spot another question.
"Is it fun?" I ask and raise my eyebrows a little in confusion, not sure what exactly they are referring to but Flo decides that it's about her stay here.
"Yes, it is. I spent the day grocery shopping and at the park and when I got back, I started cooking. Y/n and I get along great and we have a lot of laughs together." She answers and it makes me smile how genuine she seems to be.
"Oh, here's one for me: How would you describe Florence in one word?" I read out and think about it. Flo turns around to look at me, clearly interested in my answer. Her eyes sparkle in anticipation and when I come up with the right word, I grin a little.
"Definitely flirty." I decide and Flo's eyes show surprise but also amusement and she giggles a little.
"Interesting choice." She says and I nod before shrugging smugly.
"But very true. You can't deny that you haven't been flirting with me since we met." I point out and she rolls her eyes and stirs the meat again before answering.
"I can't, true. But I don't regret it and before any of you in the comments freak out, this is just friendly flirting, y/n isn't single so no need to ship us." She points to her phone as if she was pointing at the people there, which makes me chuckle to myself.
"I'm not saying I wouldn't shoot my shot if you weren't taken but that's not how it is right now." She adds with a little side smirk into my direction and I stick my tongue out at her.
The meat seems to be ready and she takes it out of the pan and puts it on two plates before putting the pan into the sink and standing next to me, reading the comments.
"Cheeky, don't think like that." She says with a raised eyebrow and a tiny smile smirk on her lips.
I don't know which comment she is referring to but leave it as it is. Since she doesn't need me to entertain her followers anymore, I start to set the table, well kitchen isle.
I ask her which soda she prefers and pour us both a cup before watching her get the paprika out of the oven. It smells amazing and my mouth is literally watering at the smell and sight of our food. She serves it onto the plates and puts a décor leave on top before waving me back over.
"I need you to try it with me, so the people can see that it is actually good." She explains and I nod, taking the plate she hands me. We both cut up a piece of paprika and a bit of meat before eating it.
I hum at the delicious taste and close my eyes. I swallow and look impressed at Flo, who smiles proudly.
"This is amazing!" I praise her food and she nods.
"There you have it, it's amazing. Thank you for testifying, y/n." She says and puts an arm around me before saying goodbye to her followers. I wave before she ends the stream and we take out food to our seats and continue to eat it while talking about random things.
A/n: I really had a lot of fun writing this chapter, so I hope you enjoyed it as well. :D
Thanks for reading and love to you all

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
