《The Stranger on the Train》Chapter 29: Movies

Since we're all a bit exhausted from the water fight, Scarlett decides we'll order take-out and gets out different flyers so we can choose what we want. Rose takes fries with nuggets and Scarlett and I each a pasta dish. We order the food and Scar and I clean up the kitchen while we wait. Rose is occupied with her toys.
"Thank you for today. I really had a lot of fun and I am more than sure that so did Rose." Scarlett says, shortly glancing over to her daughter before smiling widely at me.
"Of course, I mean I had a blast too." I say, returning her smile.
For a moment Scarlett continues to look at me before she goes back to her task.
Around half an hour later, our food arrives and while Scarlett gets it, Rose and I set the table. We take out seats as usual with me next to Scarlett and Rose opposite of us.
It feels so normal to sit here with the both of them while eating dinner that I have to remind myself that this isn't...a thing?
I mean we are not a family or anything. Scarlett and I are 'just' dating, we're not even together yet.
At the thought of that, my heart pulls a little and in this exact moment I realize, that this is what I want deep inside me. I want to be a family with Scarlett and Rose, I want to eat dinner with them daily, I want to spend fun days with them, goof around and just enjoy ourselves.
But after all, I will wait for Scarlett to tell me when she's ready. This is her family, her life and I won't push her into anything she isn't ready for.
I look down at my food and smile a little sadly, hopefully one day this will be my reality.
After dinner, we throw the containers into the trash and go into the living room. Scarlett and I both sit down on the couch. Rose comes after us, looking from one to the other and with a grin, she flops down between us.
"How about a movie night?" Scarlett suggests while playing with Rose's hair that got out of her braids. Rose's eyes grow big and she claps excitedly.
"Yes, please!" She says, bouncing a little in her seat.
"I'm totally in." I agree as well and Scarlett smiles happily at our responses.
"Can I choose a movie?" Rose asks, looking between me and her mother.
I nod and gesture for her to go on. Scarlett also gives her daughter a soft nod and Rose's grin widens, looking up at her mother.
"Let me guess: Frozen?" Scarlett asks with a smile and Rose cheers happily.
"Good choice, little dolphin." I say and Rose beams up at me.
"You like Frozen?" She asks, shuffling a little to face me better.
"I love Frozen." I agree and she giggles cutely at my responds.
"Frozen it is." Scarlett gives in but smiles lovingly at Rose who gets comfortable between us.
Scar grabs the remote and turns on the TV, opening Disney plus. The movie is found quickly and I smile when it starts to play.
It's been a while since I saw it but I really like it and it is kind of a comfort movie for me, together with the second part of course.
Rose is too excited to sit still and jumps up when the first song comes on and I get the feeling, that she might have seen the movie quite often since she seems to know it by heart.

As soon as the lyrics start, she sings along, bouncing adorably on her feet.
"...it doesn't have to be a snowmaaaan." She sings and I can't help it but to play along.
"Go away, Anna." I say and Rose spins around to look at me with big eyes, the excitement of me joining in clearly written all over her face.
"Okay, byeee." She says and pretends to walk away.
I watch as she plays out the rest of the song, jumping around the coffee table. My heart fills with love and happiness at that sight.
When the song finishes, she sits down again, catching her breath a little.
I look over to Scarlett, who looks at Rose with all the love in the world in her eyes. She seems to notice my glance and looks up at me. I nod to the coffee table and without me saying anything more, she understands me and nods with a smile.
So, I get up, earning a confused look from Rose, to push the coffee table aside, making more room in front of the TV. Rose seems to understand and grins at my action and when I sit down again, she cuddles into my side.
I warp my arms around her, enjoying this moment a lot.
It doesn't last very long though because the next song starts and this time we both jump up to sing and dance along. Since the song is mostly energetic, we just run and jump around in front of the TV.
When Elsa's part comes on, Rose points to me and I understand. I take over Elsa's lyrics and act out her scene, making Rose giggle.
We end up singing the different parts and in the corner of my eye, I see Scarlett smiling contently at our antics. Rose falls onto the sofa just as Anna runs into the horse and I chuckle at the perfect timing.
I sit down next to her again, catching my breath as well. Who would have thought that acting out, or well dancing out a whole song could be this exhausting.
The movie goes on and we continue to watch it. I feel someone's eyes on me and look over to catch Scarlett looking at me. Her eyes are soft and adoring. She smiles at me and reaches out her hand, resting it on the back of the couch behind Rose. I reach out as well and when my hand is close to hers, she intertwines our fingers.
It feels as it's supposed to be this way and with my heart almost spilling over with happiness, I continue to watch the movie.
But it wouldn't be a Disney movie if the next song wouldn't be waiting around the corner.
Rose jumps up and tugs on me free hand, not seeming to have noticed me and her mother holding hands.
I let her pull me up and we start acting out the scene again, her being Anna and me being Hans of course.
She giggles when I hold out my hands for her to take and she grabs them. I smile and spin her around a little, earning giggles from her.
She tries to spin me around as well but it doesn't quite work, so I let go of her hands and spin around myself.
Rose then lifts up her arms and I pick her up, placing her on my right hip and holding her in place with my right hand as I hold up my left. She takes it and I start to sway us around, pretending as if we're dancing together.

Her cheeks are rosy and she beams happily at me.
At the end of the song, I place both my hands around her before dipping her a little, making her squeal.
"Again, again!" She cheers but I shake my head.
"Another time, sweetie. I'm a little exhausted and we don't want to miss the movie now, do we?" I ask and bop her nose.
Rose shakes her head and I settle down onto the couch again. She doesn't seem to mind sitting on my lap and leans her back against me, getting comfortable.
I wrap my arms around her body to prevent her from sliding off my lap and continue watching the movie.
Something silently clicks next to us and I turn my head to find Scarlett holding her phone in her hands, smiling at the picture she just took of us. She mouthes an 'adorable' to me and I give her a wide smile. Rose cuddles further into me and I look back at the screen.
A sudden noise makes us jump and we look over to the source of it. Scarlett looks at her phone and sighs.
"This is important, I'll be right back." She excuses herself and gets up to leave the room.
Rose turns her attention back to the TV while I look after Scarlett a few seconds longer. She doesn't seem stressed about it, just annoyed, so hopefully nothing bad.
The phone call is soon forgotten and Rose and I are completely caught up in the movie again. I feel her shuffle in my lap and take my arms off her, giving her the opportunity to get up if she wants to. She slides of my lap and turns back around to pull me off the couch.
I chuckle because I know 'Let it go' will come on now and we both get ready.
We get completely lost in the song and watching Rose act it out is the most adorable thing on earth.
The part where we build the castle comes up and we spin around, raising our arms as if we were really building a castle.
Rose gets energetic and sings the lyrics while watching the screen and copying Elsa's movements. She does a dramatic turn and slams the imaginary doors closed. I applause and she bows for me with a grin.
Once again we settle down on the couch, Rose cuddling up to me, resting her head on my chest, her arm laying over me loosely. I have an arm wrapped around her as well.
Slowly but surely, I feel her getting more and more tired as she cuddles closer to me, her energy fading due to the exhaustion of the day.
We stay seated as the next song starts to play but she silently sings along.
I brush my hand over her hair and lean down to give her a kiss on the top of her head.
She continues to stay close to me as the movie goes on and when I hear steps, I look to Scarlett, who seems to melt at the sight of me and Rose. She holds a blanket in her arms and carefully tugs us into it before sitting next to Rose, starting to run her fingers up and down Rose's back.
Her other hand comes to rest on my shoulder and I lift my hand up to take her hand, simply holding it.
This right now is my happiness, if this would be the rest of my life, I would be happy forever. I wish I could freeze this moment but since I can't, I just enjoy having both girls close to me.
Scar's head comes to rest on my other shoulder and I turn my head to give her a kiss on the temple, making her smile. My heart almost soars out of my chest and I feel deep calmness inside me, almost as if I just got home from a long journey.
I don't know how they did it but these two blondes make me feel at home with them and I wish for nothing else than to keep it this way.
The movie ends and Scarlett turns the TV off. Rose shuffles a little until she is on my lap again, her head resting on my shoulder now and I can tell she is exhausted. I kiss her hair again.
"How about we get you to bed?" I ask softly and she nods, wrapping her arms around my neck.
Scarlett chuckles a little at her daughter's indication of wanting to be carried. I follow the silent request and wrap my arms around her body, carrying her upstairs. Scar follows us and directs me into the bathroom.
While Rose brushes her teeth, I help Scarlett preparing Rose's bed for her.
Brushing her teeth seems to have awoken Rose a bit and she comes skipping into her room.
"Can I have a good night story?" She asks and looks up at the both of us. Scarlett ruffles her hair a little, giving her a warm smile.
"Of course, pick a book."
Rose goes to her bookshelf and looks at the different books before grabbing one and turning around to us with a cheeky smile. She settles in her bed, handing her mom the book.
"Can you both read it to me and act it out?" She asks innocently, making her best puppy dog eyes.
I look over to Scarlett who shrugs, waiting for my answer.
"I'm not really as good as your Mom but I can try." I reply, making Rose's eyes light up.
She grabs a stuffed animal and watches us get ready. Scarlett holds the book for the both of us to see and we start reading it, doing the voices of the characters.
Rose's eyes stay on us and she giggles as we walk around her room, playing out her book.
When we come to the last page, I understand Rose's mischievous look in her eyes. One of the main characters kisses the other on the cheek. Scarlett glances over to me, silently asking if I'm okay with that before she starts to read the page. I nod and we read the page together.
"...and then she gave him a kiss on the cheek." Scarlett reads, closing the book because that's the end and turning to look at me.
Her eyes sparkle a little in the dimly lit room. Our eyes connect before she leans over and kisses my cheek. Warmth spreads through my whole body and I can't help it but to smile.
As she puts the book down, Rose shakes her head.
"Kisses on the cheek are for children, kiss properly." She encourages us and I raise an amused eyebrow at her statement.
There's a twinkle in her eyes and she leans a little forward to watch better.
"I don't know, Rosie..." Scarlett trails off, looking at me, unsure of my reaction.
I give her a small nod, being okay with it but it's her decision.
"Pleaseeee, Mommy." Rose begs and after a few seconds, Scarlett caves in and turns around to face me.
Her hands gently cup my face and she leans in. I close my eyes right before our lips touch and it feels like fireworks explode inside me.
We kissed a lot of times before and it always was incredible but this still feels different. Maybe because Rose asked us to and until now we tried to not show our affection in front of the her or because I know now that this is all I want or because I can tell, that Scarlett's feelings also have grown over the past few hours.
The kiss is filled with so much love that it almost takes away my breath.
But we're still in front of Rose after all, so we pull away after a few seconds. Rose seems more than satisfied with our kiss and I see something shimmering in her eyes and it looks a little like hope. I am not sure for what but as long as she is happy, that's all that matters.
"Alright and now it's time to sleep." Scarlett says after letting go of my face and taking my hand to give it a light squeeze.
Rose nods and gets comfortable in her bed. Scar walks over to her and pulls the covers a little further up, tugging Rose in lovingly.
"Good night and sweet dreams my sweet baby." Scarlett whispers to Rose, stroking her cheeks.
"I love you very, very much with all my heart and I am so happy I had you. You made my life the best life ever possible and I will always love you, no matter what."
Rose beams up at her mom, taking one of her hands and playing with her fingers.
"I love you too, Mommy. Today was so much fun, thank you." She replies and my heart completely melts at their little moment.
"I'm glad you had fun, sweetheart. Sleep well and if you need anything, I'm either in my room or downstairs." Scar makes sure to let her know and kisses her forehead.
"Good night, Mommy." Rose replies, giving her mother a kiss as well before Scarlett gets up and walks to the door. I follow her but Rose pouts.
"I don't get a good night kiss?" She asks, almost offended and a soft smile grows on my face as I walk to her bed.
"Of course you do. Silly me just forgot." I say, surprised at her request but feeling hornored as well.
I lean down and kiss her forehead.
"Good night and sweet dreams, little dolphin." Rose's eyes light up at my words and she gives me a kiss on the cheek, turning my melted heart even more to liquid.
"Good night, big dolphin." She replies and gives me a smile. I return it and walk over to Scarlett who watched our interaction with adoration.
We wave and turn off the light before closing the door but leaving a small gap open.
Before we start to talk again, we go downstairs, not wanting to disturb Rose. Scarlett plops down onto the couch and I fall onto it next to her. She breathes out and turns her head to look at me.
"Rose didn't seem to have a problem with us kissing." She states, sounding unsure of what she means by that herself. I just hum in agreement, Rose looked more like pumped about us kissing.
"Maybe she likes the thought...?" I think out loud, not finishing the sentence. Scarlett's attention stays on me as she thinks about my words.
"You think she would like to see me in a relationship again? I'm not sure she knows what exactly that means but she probably knows that kissing is a part of that." She voices her thoughts.
"Maybe. I mean, she loves you and wants you to be happy." I assume and lean my arm against the backrest of the couch, resting my chin on my hand. Scarlett nods slowly.
"Yeah. I also want her to be happy with who I choose and it seems like she is more than happy when you're around. I'm just not sure if she would be ready to share me with anyone. So far it's been only the two of us, only in the beginning her father but she was too small to really remember that time. Ever since she can remember, she had my full attention. It's not like that would change a lot but being in a relationship also takes time and attention, you know?" Scar looks at me a little helplessly.
"Yes, I totally understand that. A relationship doesn't take up all your time and you would make sure to be there for Rose just as before but it does change things. Beforehand you never know if the changes are bad or good, that's what you'll figure out if you try." I say, not sure where this conversation is going.
"That's true." Scar nibbles on her lip in thought. We both stay silent for a while, lost in our thoughts.
"I know I asked that a lot lately, but do you want to stay here? It's already kinda late and I like having you here. Besides, Rose would probably love for you to join us at breakfast tomorrow morning."
I chuckle a little at her question and nod.
"I'd love that too." I say, seeing her eyes starting to sparkle at my words.
A/n: Rose kinda made up for disturbing the other moment a few chapters back and it seems to become more and more serious...who knows how it'll turn out ;)
Thanks for reading and love to you all
