《Going back ✔️》Chapter 42: I'm sorry

I went to the address Elise texted me, which happened to be an abandoned warehouse. Seriously, what is with killers and warehouses?!

"You came," her clear voice rang out in the silence.

"I did," I replied, tilting my head up, "what do you want?"

"For you to join me," she responded.

I laughed coldly and cruelly, "and why the hell would I do that?"

"Because of you don't, I'll kill your family," Elise answered. However, I noticed her hands were shaking slightly and she seemed hesitant.

I spread my arms and smirked, "bring it on psycho!" Faster than a viper, I brought my gun out and shot the guards coming to capture me.

I heard the front door shut and woke up, my gun in my hand in case of an intruder. Immediately, my mind went to Iris. I quickly and quietly searched the floor for the intruder. When I found none, I went to Iris' room, hoping that she was safe and sound in bed.

It was empty.

Frantically, I barged in the room and pulled back the covers, hoping that Iris was there. She wasn't.

"Brandon? What happened?" Jax asked sleepily. Alex had also woken and was rubbing his eyes.

"Iris. Where is she?" I asked. At her name, the two of them were instantly alert.

"I don't know," Alex said worriedly, "she seemed... off when we were talking and quite final."

"Yeah," Jax agreed, "she looked at her phone and seemed very spooked by what she saw."

"Brandon? What's going on?" Mom asked, coming inside the room, closely followed by Dad and the rest of my brothers.

"Iris is missing," I explained and they tensed.

"Was she taken?" Will asked.

"No... we'd have woken up," Alex replied, gesturing between him and Jax. They explained Iris' odd behaviour early on while I tried to think where she might've gone.

"Could we hack into her phone?" Elijah suggested, "try to find where she's gone?"

Dad nodded and we all went to his office. Oscar took a small detour and got us some snacks.

We munched on Doritos and fruits- the latter was Mom's insistence- and gathered around Dad's computer as he tried to hack into my sister's phone.

"Damn it," he growled, "it's protected too well... I need a password."

"Let us try," Jax said, gesturing between him and Alex, "we know Iris really well and might be able to guess the password."

I felt a tiny prick of jealousy at that, but I mentally scolded myself that it wasn't the time.

Alex sat in Dad's chair and began typing into the computer. Jax said various suggestions as to what it could be- some of which I'd never heard of before. They only had three tries before it would lock us out forever. The first two were incorrect.

Finally, Jax said in a quiet voice, "try our birthdays," what did that mean?

Alex swallowed and typed something in. We were granted access immediately and me and my family did a mini celebration. However, Jax and Alex exchanged pained looks.

"What happened?" I asked them.

"I-" Alex hesitated and shook his head, "nothing. She screenshoted an address... maybe she's there?"

Daimen jaw clenched, "so what do we do now?"

"Well, I think that she might've been lured there by an enemy," Alex answered, "probably with the threat of harming us. Which means that she is walking straight into a trap to save us," he muttered the last part.

"Well, let's go and save her then," Julian grinned, taking out his gun.

It was getting harder and harder to evade Elise and her merry band of psychos. I was tiring out quickly and lost track of the number of people I'd killed. Elise never partook in the violence herself; she was content to shout out orders from the sidelines.

"Whatever you do, don't kill her!" She yelled. I was confused. Why wouldn't she want to kill me?

Just as I felt I was about to give up, a large commotion could be heard from outside. We all paused in the fighting and sprinted outside.

There, the scene brought a smile to my face. My family had called on their Mafia and I noticed them fighting as well, but they were too preoccupied to see me.

Gasping, I collapsed, clutching the wounds. Two on my stomach and one on my chest.

I heard someone scream my name, but it sounded like it was from a distance. I could hear Elise screaming bloody murder though.

"WHO FIRED THAT?!" She screamed so loudly I winced, "I SPECIFICALLY TOLD YOU TO KILL EVERYONE BUT HER! I WILL MURDER YOU WHEN I FIND OUT WHO DID IT! ABORT MISSION!"

The enemy retreated. I watched them either deal the killing blow, or abandon the fight halfway. Our side tried to catch them, but they were already gone.

I lay on the cold wet stone, feeling the life ebb from my body.

"No, no, no, no," I looked up and saw Alex and Jax by my side, tears filling their eyes.

"Hi," I croaked, feeling incredibly weak.

"Hey," Jax replied, desperately trying to staunch my wounds. I knew there was no point.

Limply, I grabbed their blood soaked hands, "couldn't watch out for some stupid bullets, huh? How dumb am I?"

"Save your strength, Rainbow," Alex whispered, resting one hand on my forehead, "help is on its way! Don't worry just-"

"Shhh," I cut him off gently, "Al, we both know there's no point. I think the bullets hit some vital organs- ahh!" I doubled over as a wave of nausea overcame me and I fought the urge to fall asleep. I looked behind them and saw my family sobbing freely as they gazed at me.

"Hey," I frowned, "I don't look that bad, do I?"

That got a broken chuckle out of Oscar, "why did you come here alone?"

I shrugged, even though it was painful to do so, "Elise," I coughed up some blood and my eyes began to close. Someone slapped me lightly and I woke again, "thank you. Elise said that she would- kill you," I panted, each breath becoming harder and harder to draw into my lungs, "I- couldn't- take- the- risk."

"You selfless idiot," Will chuckled drily.

"Ah well... at least now, I can haunt her in the afterlife."

"Don't say that," Dai snapped, "you're not dying. You can't die. We just got you back."

I smiled sadly, "it's how the world works, Dai. We are born, we grow up and we die. I'm just dying earlier than some others. At my funeral, I want everyone to wear rainbow colours. If I see a single black clothing, I'm coming back to haunt you all."

Everyone chuckled and stared despondently at me.

"I love you, sorella," Elijah whispered.

"I love you Riss," Brandon sobbed.

"I love you bambina," Daimen murmured.

"I love you Principessa," Mom and Dad whispered.

"I love you, Iris," Julian closed his eyes, his shoulders hunched over.

"I love you... please don't die," Oscar said.

"I love you," Will said sadly.

"We love you, Rainbow," Alex and Jax said. They pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead. I suddenly realised how lucky I was to me surrounded by those I love. I don't mind dying of it means keeping them safe.

The youngest West-Brown closed her eyes, her head lolling back. Elijah quickly shook her awake, praying to every deity he could think of that the ambulance comes on time.

"Hey Al, Jax?" She asked, looking at them with watery blue eyes, "let's sing our song. And Jax, don't even think of getting out of this one."

Jax nodded mutely. The three of them sang, the air filled with the sound of their anguish and heartbrokenness.

"I'm lying on the moon

My dear, I'll be there soon

It's a quiet starry place

Time's we're swallowed up in space

We're here a million miles away

There's things I wish I knew

There's no thing I'd keep from you

It's a dark and shiny place

But with you my dear, I'm safe

And we're a million miles away

We're lying on the moon

It's a perfect afternoon

Your shadow follows me all day

Making sure that I'm okay

And we're a million miles away

A million miles away

A million miles away...."

A siren wailed and everyone's heads snapped to it, hoping that the ambulance had arrived just in time.

Just one second they looked away.

Just one second was all it took.

Iris' lips parted and she whispered, "I love you..."

Alex and Jax felt her hand go limp. They quickly looked back, and their eyes widened in fear.

"No, no, Rainbow please don't go. Don't go, please. Don't leave us. We just got you back. Please, please, please wake up. Rainbow? Rainbow! Don't go..." Alex cried.

The West-Brown brothers fell to the floor, unable to comprehend what had happened. David closed his eyes and mourned the loss of his only daughter while his wife comforted him to the best of her abilities, while also coping with her grief.

The paramedics arrived. They lifted her onto a stretcher and placed her in the ambulance. Secretly, they weren't very optimistic, but they pretended to be for the broken family. Numbly, the West- Browns, Jax and Alex climbed into the car, each thinking it was their fault their little Princess died. Their light... their best friend... gone...

Iris West- Brown gazed up at the roof of the ambulance, her eyes seeing the stars far far away...
