《Going back ✔️》Chapter 40: Reunited

"Rainbow? Wake up. We're here," Alex gently shook me awake.
Blearily, I wiped my eyes and sat up. I opened the car door, thanked Cole and James and wished Becky and John good luck for the future. Well, Becky more so than John. I watched the car disappear into the distance and grinned at Alex.
He whistled when he saw the house, "nice place."
"Thanks," I replied, "wait here. I want to surprise Jax."
Alex shook his head and chuckled, "he's either going to be incredibly happy, or incredibly angry."
"Let's hope it's the former," I joked, walking up to the huge door. Smiling, I knocked on it and waited.
The door creaked open and revealed Jax. His brown hair was disheveled and his grey eyes were red and had bags under them.
"Iris?" He whispered and I nodded. He quickly engulfed me in a tight hug.
"Jax," I couldn't stop the smile spreading across my face, "there's someone I want you to meet," I looked over my shoulder and called, "you can come out now!"
Alex came into view. Jax gasped and clutched my arm, "i-is that-?"
I grinned, "it's Alex, Jax."
Silently, Jax walked over to Alex as if in a daze. The two of them hugged and I could feel tears of happiness welling up in my eyes. They broke apart and extended their arms towards me and I joined in the hug. The three of us began laughing and crying, happy that finally, finally, we were reunited.
"Okay," we broke apart, "where are the others?"
"They've gone to follow a lead on your disappearance," Jax explained, "they'll be back soon."
I nodded and frowned when I saw Jax's fists. I grabbed and inspected them and looked up at Jax, "did you get into a fight?"

"No," Jax lied and quickly stuffed his hands into his pockets.
"Idiot," I muttered fondly, grabbing Jax and Alex's arms and leading them inside. I forced them to sit down at the dining table while I carefully applied ointment and cream to their various bruises and cuts.
Alex winced when I touched a large purple bruise on his face.
"Sorry," I mumbled.
"It's fine," Alex gritted out, strangling the cloth he was clutching, "it barely stings."
"Tell that to the cloth you're murdering," Jax rolled his eyes. Alex immediately released his grip on it and smiled as if to say 'see, nothing's wrong!'
"Do you want to go and visit your family?" I asked, knowing I was treading on thin ice.
Alex still kept smiling, but the tension in the air increased a fraction, "I am with my family," he gestured to me and Jax.
"You're sweet," I answered, pressing an ice pack to his cheek, "but I'm talking about your biological family."
Alex's eyes darkened, "they're not my family," he said with a tone of finality.
"Al, they raised you. You can't be hating them completely."
"I don't hate them," Alex shrugged and added, "but if they were on fire and I had water, I'd drink it."
"What about Diana and Dean?" I countered.
"I don't deserve to be a part of their life- OW! What the hell?!" He clutched his arm where I'd slapped it- hard.
I glowered at him, "never say that again. You are an amazing person Alexander and if you don't at least try to contact them, I will keep annoying you until you do."
Alec sighed and looked at Jax, "I'm not getting out of this, am I?"

"Once Rainbow sets her mind on something, she will not stop until she gets it. So, no," Jax chuckled.
In a softer tone, I continued, "Alex I spent eight years thinking my older brothers and father abandoned me. Turns out they were trying to keep me safe. Please go and visit them or I'll keep singing the 'Barbie Girl' song until your ears bleed."
Alex laughed lightly, "fine. I'll go when I've got this mess," he pointed to his face, "clears up."
"Fine," I smiled. We sat in comfortable silence until we heard the front door unlock. Instinctively, I tensed, but relaxed when I realised it was my family.
"I DON'T GIVE A DAMN!" Mom screamed, "GET YOUR BEHIND OVER HERE NOW!"
"Lisa, maybe you should-" Dad started.
"If you tell me to calm down, I will rip your throat out," Mom threatened.
"Four days she's been missing," Brandon cried, "what if she's-"
"Don't say it," Dai cut in harshly, "did you deal with that moron who gave us the false lead?"
"Yes," Elijah replied, "they won't be doing that again in a hurry."
I walked out of the kitchen and stood in the hallway, "hi," I waved.
My family stood frozen in shock. They blinked. Once. Twice. Then-
"IRIIISSSS!" Oscar squealed and sprinted down the hallway to give me a hug. He tripped at around halfway and sprawled at my feet, "ouch."
"You okay?" I asked, bending down and helping him.
"Yes!" Oscar exclaimed and hugged me, "group hug!" He demanded. Instantly, the rest of the family joined in. We broke apart after a minute and they all fussed over me, checking me over for any possible signs of injury.
"Mom, I heard you shouting... is everything okay?" I asked.
"Your mother has been going completely cra- ahem, I mean, she's already fired about twenty people since you went missing," Dad answered.
"Well they were being idiots," Mom responded, crossing her arms, "and I don't regret firing them."
"Who's that?" Brandon asked, gesturing towards Alex. He and Jax were leaning against the doorframe of the kitchen and were smiling softly at me.
"This," I went and stood between Alex and Jax, "is Alex. He's my best friend."
Will frowned, "the one who died?"
"The one who fake died," Alex corrected, "and hi. I presume you're the family?"
"You presume correctly," Dad shook Alex's hand, "nice to meet you and what happened to your face?"
"I was tortured for four years," Alex replied casually and my heart clenched, "Rainbow put the cream and stuff on me."
"Well," Elijah clapped his hands together, "let's go to the living room and talk."
"But first," Oscar said seriously, "we eat. I'm hungry."

Cultivation Anomaly
Follow the journey of an individual given a classic cheat trope in a cultivation world. What does a man do when he finds himself unsure of who he really is yet is given a cheat? What really happens to a cultivation world when it is overrun by MC level characters? Is the cultivation world just run by cruel young masters, short-sighted elders and uncaring experts? Note: Tags may be removed or added to this story as it progresses. For example, I added the harem tag because I wasn't sure if it would appear so be forewarn. Also, productive feedback is always appreciated even it may be ignored. Note 2: Original idea inspired by "Arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4". I wanted to do something similar but have a more gritty realistic feel. The system SHOULD differentiate as the story goes on but if it doesn't it means I need a rewrite. Either way, read AYMTV4, it's great. Note 3: If you give criticism to be helpful, please try to be descriptive, specific, and focused on making my story better, not changing the story to how you would write it. Go to the link below if you want more specifics. https://youtu.be/-6HOdHEeosc?t=3240
