《Going back ✔️》Chapter 33: Recovered

Dr. Green wanted to keep me in the hospital for a few days, just to make sure I was fully recovered.
When she left, I took a good look at my family. The boys were looking happy, yet there were dark circles under their eyes. Mom looked thoroughly exhausted, yet she had a warm smile on her face. Jax looked like a raccoon with a gaunt face and disheveled hair.
"Jax," I said, looking at him, "when was the last time you got some proper sleep?"
"Three or four days?" Jax replied sheepishly.
I lightly slapped him upside the head, "you idiot! Why haven't you been sleeping?"
"I couldn't," he shrugged, "not while you were in danger."
"Well, I'm perfectly fine now," I said, "so get some sleep."
"But-"
"No buts," I interrupted and Oscar snickered, "go home and get some sleep. Now."
Jax rolled his eyes, "yes mother," he mocked, standing up. He hugged me and kissed the side of my head, mumbling, "I'm glad you're awake, Rainbow," and left, promising to return tomorrow.
"Now," I said, grinning at my family and leaving forward, "what's been going on the past two weeks?"
"I shall tell you," Oscar replied, "as soon as I've eaten."
Mom looked at him incredulously, "you ate, like, less than an hour ago."
"Well, I'm a growing boy," Oscar huffed.
"I'm hungry too," Will said.
"I second that," Brandon said solemnly and the boys agreed with him and looked at Mom.
Mom blinked slowly and we exchanged looks. Boys.
"Alright," she sighed, getting up, "I'll get you some food."
"I'll help," Dad responded and the two of them left.
"So," I grinned, "what's been happening the last couple of weeks?"

The boys exchanged looks and launched into a detailed explanation. We laughed, gasped and had a mini pillow fight throughout the time. At some point, Mom and Dad came in, each holding a large tray of food. Sadly, I wasn't allowed to eat solid foods until I'm better- so I relied on the IV drip to give me the nutrients I need. My brothers took great joy in slowly eating the delicious food in front of me and making comments about how 'distressing' it must be for me to have to watch them.
In an attempt to ignore them, I drank some water and relished the cool liquid travelling down my throat. I asked Dad for my phone and scrolled through my messages, astonished at many missed texts I received on the group chat.
Rolling my eyes at Jay's comment, I typed in:
I switched off my phone and placed it next to me. Suddenly, I felt very tired; as if I'd been awake all the days I was asleep.
"Riss, you should get some sleep," Daimen said, looking at me.
I nodded, too tired to complain. My family hugged and kissed my forehead before leaving and I fell asleep, allowing darkness to consume me.

Today was finally the day I was allowed to go back to school. I wanted to ride to school, but my family and Jax refused point blank to let me. My brothers and Jax were hovering over me like helicopters- as touching their concern was, I really wanted some privacy. That's why I was excited to go back to school.
Me and my brothers sat in the car, after getting the whole 'if you need help, contact us' speech from Elijah and my parents. We drove to school where I got another speech before I was allowed to go.

I went to my locker where I saw my friends crowding around it. I dropped next to them and cried, "Hello!"
"Iris!" Mia, Grace and Elizabeth squealed, engulfing me in a hug. I stumbled back slightly, but returned the hug, laughing slightly. We pulled away after a moment and they began questioning me.
"Ladies," Jay said, "let's give the poor girl a break!" He grinned at me, "it's good to see you Iris."
"You too, Jay," I grinned back.
"What about us?" Milo huffed, standing next to Aiden.
"And Aiden and Milo," I added.
Smiling, we all went to our respective classes, making plans to catch up at lunch.
Me and my friends sat at our usual table. My brothers and Jax came up to me at the start, asking me if I was okay.
"For the last time!" I said, getting a tad peeved off, "I'm fine! Now go and have fun with you friends."
They rolled their eyes but did what I asked.
"Well, well, well," a depressingly familiar voice said behind me, "looks like the weirdo is back."
"What do you want, Ruby?" Aiden snapped and my friends were all glaring at her.
She ignored them and stared at me, "I thought you'd died or at least left the country. You're so ugly it would do us all a favour."
I rolled my eyes, "please, I'm sure like 90% of your 'beauty' can be removed with a towel."
Ruby glared, "you're so stuck up, Iris."
"If I wanted to kill myself, I'd climb up your ego and jump down to your IQ level," I snapped.
"I hate you," she growled.
I smiled with fake sweetness, "to care, I'd first have to value your opinion. Besides, with the information I know, you really don't want to make me mad."
Ruby scoffed and flicked her hair over her shoulder, but I could see a trace of fear in her eyes, "whatever," she mumbled and stalked off.
"Finally," Grace exhaled, "now she'll leave us alone."
"She's been annoying is for the past two weeks," Mia grimaced, "let's talk about something else."
We talked for a bit before Elizabeth, Milo and Jay said, "I/we have an announcement to make."
Jay looked at the other two, "that was weird. You go first."
"No, you can go first," Elizabeth said.
"No, you."
"You."
"Why don't you go at the same time?" I suggested, "on three. 1...2...3-"
"We're dating," Milo and Elizabeth said.
"I'm bi," Jay said at the same time.
"Uhhh... congratulations to the three of you!" Mia declared.
"Congrats," I grinned.
"Congratulations!!" Aiden and Grace smiled at the trio.
Elizabeth and Milo high-fived Jay.
Jay looked relieved, "thanks you guys."
The bell went, signifying the end of lunch. I went to my next lesson with Grace and Mia.

Get the quest, kill the monsters, grab the loot, don't die. How hard can adventuring be? When the party is a fashionista wizard who'd rather stare at her reflection than dirty herself with actual combat, a thief that picks locks by ripping them apart, a paladin trying to do the right thing, and an archer that's better at talking to plants than people, then even a simple quest can prove a challenge. Hired for a variety of tasks, from retreiving the legendary Dragon's Veil to bodyguarding the wealthy, thwarting apocalyptic prophecies, or uncovering not-so-abandoned elven ruins, the problems in their way may well prove their undoing; lonesome medusas, sticky-fingered psychopomps, agressively passive golems and fearsomely violent geography stand in their way, as well as the minor issue of simply not actually trusting, or even liking, each other!
