《Going back ✔️》Chapter 31: Evidence

Currently, the boys and I were sitting at the dining table for dinner. It'd taken a lot of coaxing and threatening to convince them to eat downstairs.
"How are you all today?" I asked, trying desperately to diffuse the tension.
I got some mumbled responses and nothing from Daimen or Julian.
Awkward silence.
"How can we eat," Daimen said suddenly, "while our sister is in a coma, and her shooter is still out there?"
"I agree," Julian replied.
"You shouldn't have forced us to come here, Mom," Will sighed, and everyone agreed, "not when we're too upset."
I lost it.
I stood up so quickly the chair knocked over, and glared venomously at my family, who fidgeted under my gaze. Good.
"You don't think I'm upset, too?" I asked quietly, "my daughter is in a coma. I'm grieving, angry and upset, but that doesn't stop me from looking after you all. I fed you, comforted you, made sure you guys didn't kill yourself from over-exhaustion and did even one of you ask me if I was okay?"
The boys looked down, ashamed.
"And now," I carried on, "I cooked this meal for you, and you have the audacity to say that I did wrong? And make it sound as if I am not upset too? FINE!" I slammed my hand on the table, and everyone flinched, "eat, don't eat, see if I care! I'm tired of being the only one in this family trying to make the best of a bad situation!"
I stormed off, feeling incredibly angry. Tears of frustration streamed down my cheeks, and I walked to the bedroom and slammed the door shut.
I don't know how long I sat there, crying and feeling angry. Soon, my emotions simmered down, and I felt much better.

The door slowly creaked open, and I looked up, seeing Oscar standing there. I smiled at him to let him know I'm no longer angry. The door opened fully, and the rest of the family came in and stood in a line against the wall, like naughty children who got into trouble at school.
"Ahem," David cleared his throat, "we're sorry, Lisa, for behaving so selfishly the last few days."
I grinned at them, "It's okay, guys, I'm sorry for exploding like that."
"We deserved it," Daimen responded.
"Group hug!" Oscar said, extending his arms out. Laughing, we obeyed.
"I love you guys," I said.
The boys beamed, "We love you too."
"What?" I said my voice barely above a whisper.
George frowned, "That Alex is alive. I can show you the video if you want? We want to see them suffer as much as you do."
I nodded mutely, unable to speak.
George quickly went and retrieved his laptop. He placed it on the table and played the video.
Normal- present time
I gasped when the boy lifted his face. It was bloodied and battered, but his eyes were a vivid blue belonging to my best friend.
The screen went black and I exhaled sharply. I stood still for a moment and composed myself before turning to George and Flo, "thank you both, and- once again- I'm sorry for rudely barging in," then I turned and left the house.
Alex is alive. Alex is alive? Alex is alive! Alex is alive?!
At first, I was incredibly elated. Then, I became angry. I wish Rainbow was awake.
Wait. What if the news she wanted to tell me was the fact that Alex is alive?
A million thoughts swarming around my head, I called a taxi and went to the hospital.

Myth Of Men
Gaming isn't a way of life. With reality reduced to rubble and ash after a nuclear war, these fictional worlds of entertainment now serve as reality to many survivors. And, amidst all the addicts and try-hards, one person rises to the top with ease. Known as Hiiro, Henry Johnson is infamous for quickly dominating every game that hits the market, and departing from them even more quickly. It's no surprise when he's offered a chance to beta the world's first VRMMORPg: The Myth of Men. But is there something sinister hidden underneath the facade of what promises to be a fun game? Please note: the below is true, but due to my continued haitus, it's on the failed pledge list as of now with my other series. This fiction is signed under the 'The Pledge'... Some internet message in a forum about not dropping or giving a rushed ending in their fiction, otherwise meet the wrath of letting RRL mod Vocaloid have 'fun' with the fiction's description. So mainly for the sake of my fiction due to said wrath, I'll see this fiction through. Credit for winRoot for doing my commissions. Mature language: 15+... His elaborate clothing has been torn to ribbons, yet his skin remains unblemished. His face is peaceful, and tucked into the hand lying across his chest can be seen a solitary playing card. He is a Ludum Haeres. The last remnant of a Summoner. Numbered among those few capable of changing their destinies. The unseen rulers of the world known as Vesperia, and one of the most powerful creatures in existence. The woman knows none of this. And so, she picks up the card... This is my third novel on Royal Road, the first being "Beyond the Horizon's Eye", and the second being "The Dawnfire Archives". This story is something of a test in a new genre, that of CardLIT. We'll see how well it succeeds as the story continues. It takes place in a different setting than my other tales, with an entirely new cast of characters. It does, however, contain several ties between the stories. Average post between 1000 - 3000 words.
