A date? Since when did Miyoung score a date for Taehyung's party? Wasn't she into Taehyung or some shit like that?

I ruffle my hair as I walk out of the cafeteria, trailing behind Taehyung who had his hands shoved down his pockets with a straight face.

"Dude, you good?" I cautiously ask him as I make my way to walk beside him. He glances at me quickly before looking ahead of him again.

"Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?" He mutters.

I shrug. "I dunno, you tell me."

Knowing Taehyung's stubbornness, he was most likely annoyed about the news of Miyoung and her so called "date." I knew he wanted her there so he would be able to spend some time with her and charm her.

There was no need for that because everyone knows she's already swooned by him.

That is, everyone except Taehyung.

"Aren't you even the slightest bit annoyed that Miyoung's got a date? Hell, she was even planning on skipping my birthday because of if. Not cool. I thought we were friends." He says, clicking his tongue in annoyance.

I stifle a chuckle and glance at him. "Pretty sure your problem goes beyond just friends," I say while feeling the familiar pang in my heart. "And I'm not too worried about this so-called date. I'm a hundred percent sure she's bluffing."

"Bluffing? Why do you say that?"

I purse my lips and shrug. "Reasons. I bet she won't bring one."

There was no way her parents were letting her go to a party after I had made her stay over late. Knowing the Park's, they were super strict about curfew. If Miyoung's parents let her go out Saturday night, than that was truly a miracle.

Plus, Miyoung scoring a date? I didn't think she could pull that off.

But then again she's got Nayoung as her best friend.

Let's just see what goes on Saturday night.

——

In rolled Saturday, and Taehyung's house was packed. There were so many people that I'm sure half of them didn't even attend the same high school as us.

I chilled in game room, watching a couple of guys play beer pong intensely. The screaming was too loud for me to bear, so eventually I left and made my way into the living room.

And then I saw her.

I recognized her hair immediately. Her hair was straightened down, making it longer than it usually is. Her clothes were different than what she usually would wear. She had this hot-girl aura radiating her, and it was breathtaking.

Miyoung is so stunning.

I glance around her and notice she's lamely standing there, watching Nayoung and Hoseok dance together. Even so, she has a smile on her face.

So stunning.

But what catches my eye is that I don't see a date around. Where was the so-called guy Nayoung was ever so furiously bragging about at school the other day?

I chuckled sarcastically as I made my way over to her. I knew she was bluffing.

She sees me approaching and her smile instantly drops into a frown. I hate that I'm the cause of that.

I push the hurt I felt to the side and smirked at her. "Miyoung, what a surprise. Didn't think you would actually show. Where's your date?" I ask smoothly with a hint of sarcasm dripping off my lips.

She sighs and darts her eyes around the room nervously. "In the bathroom. He's probably lost since they're so many people here. And didn't I tell you I was coming?" She defensively crosses her arms across her chest, staring me down with a pointed look.

I scoff at her sad excuse. "In the bathroom? Sure. You look pathetic standing there watching your best friend going off with another guy."

Her faces turns of one into anger. I manage to keep my cool before I dropped to my knees and begged for her forgiveness.

Before I could open my mouth to say another snarky comment, a brown-haired guy wraps comes up to us. He wraps his arm around Miyoung's waist and pulls her closer to his chest. He eyes me up and down before asking, "Is everything alright here?"

A wave of shock immediately hit me as I watch him pull Miyoung even closer to his chest. Miyoung's face shows she's relieved and happy that he's here.

"E-Everything's okay," I stutter, mentally cringing at how weak I sounded. "Who are you?"

I glanced at his arm around her waist, jealousy coursing through my veins. Unknowingly, my fists clenched at my sides as I brought my gaze back to him.

"I'm Yoo Youngjae," He pauses, leaning down to kiss Miyoung's head. I felt my face and blood burning. "I'm Miyoung's date tonight. Problem?"

Miyoung's face flushed pink as she embarrassedly looked at this Youngjae guy. I felt angry, jealous, mad, just any synonym along those lines as I watched the exchange between the two.

I need some air.

"No there's no problem. Enjoy your night." I briskly say, turning around quickly walking away from the two.

I head into the kitchen, grasping onto the counter as I sighed and closed my eyes.

Miyoung, why do you do this to me?

Jungkook, why do you do this to yourself?

"Hey man, you good?" I hear Taehyung's deep voice from behind me, his hand on my back.

I nod and stand up straight, reaching for a red solo cup and sipping it. "Yeah I'm good. There's so many people here."

Taehyung chuckles and plays with his fingers. "Yeah... Didn't think this many people were gonna turn up."

"Well, it's a high school party."

"Yeah."

Silence fell between us. I sipped on my drink and looked out at the many bodies in the crowd. God, I hate parties.

"Have you seen Miyoung anywhere by any chance?" Taehyung asks with a hopeful glint in his eye.

"Yeah, I have," I mutter bitterly. "She's with her date somewhere. Last I saw them, they were in the living room."

Taehyung's eyes widened. "She really brought a date?"

I nodded, wanting to stop talking about this. I rolled my eyes as he stopped a girl abruptly and whispered something in her ear, sending her off and crossing his arms over his chest.

Chuckling to myself at his pouty lips, I fish for my phone and begin to scroll through my phone to see if there was any fast food open at this time. In all honesty, I was seriously thinking of ditching this party.

The only thing holding me back was Taehyung. He was my best friend, I shouldn't just leave because some girl pushed my buttons.

"You wanna head out?" I ask him, glancing at his now raised eyebrows.

He laughs out loud and grins my way, easily putting a smile on my face. "I wish."

I laugh with him until I notice Miyoung's silhouette standing by the kitchen with her date. Young something? I sigh and look to Taehyung, whose eyes had widened and a smile had appeared on his face.

"Miyoung!"

She turns around slowly with an awkward smile on her face. She waved shyly, "Hey Taehyung, happy birthday."

Taehyung grinned. "Thanks a lot for coming, it means a lot," He looks over at Miyoung's date, his face twisting in annoyance for a brief second before switching back to a soft smile. "Is this your date?"

I pursed my lips to bite back a laugh. The exchange going on was about to make me lose my mind. How awkward could these two seriously be?

Miyoung nodded. "Yes, this is Yoo Youngjae. He's in Class 12-C. Youngjae, this is Taehyung, and well, you've already met the lovely Jungkook." She sourly says, looking at me with a blank stare and bowing.

I rolled my eyes and pointedly ignore her.

The thing that stuck to my head was Class 12-C. She had mentioned that her date didn't go to the school, and now she says he's in the class right next to us?

That only meant one thing.

This was all a set-up.

I bite my bottom lip to hold back a grin as I watch the three of them awkwardly introduce themselves then fall into a pit of silence. Seriously, Miyoung?

I took out my phone to help myself not blurt out at Miyoung for being so stupid when Taehyung blurted out, "You look really good tonight, Miyoung. I didn't pin you for that kind of style to be honest, but you suit it well."

Biting the inside of my cheek, I glance quickly to see Miyoung muttering a thank you shyly whilst blushing.

"Doesn't she look good Jungkook?" Taehyung directs the question to me.

I run my eyes up and down her body, my neck and face suddenly feeling hot.

Of course she looks good. Hell, she looks ethereal. But there was no way I was going to say that.

Instead, my dumbass resorted to saying, "She's trying too hard. She looks like a goth."

She immediately takes action, throwing herself on me and starts to hit me. "Take that back!"

I block her with my hands and hit her lightly. "Well, I wasn't going to lie now was I? Honesty is the best policy!"

Youngjae tears Miyoung away from me and shoots me a cheeky glint. "Miyoung, he's basically agreeing with Taehyung."

"No I'm not!"

"No he's not!"

Yes I am.

Taehyung soon asks Miyoung to go talk to them alone, very evidently excluding me as they head to the backyard for some alone time. My eyes follow them as they finally disappeared, slumping my shoulders and sighing.

I look back to see Youngjae still standing in front of me, his arms crossed over his chest with a playful smirk on his lips. "You so like her dude. It's actually kind of embarrassing."

Scoffing, I feign annoyance and shove my hands in my pockets. "Nope."

"The fact that Miyoung can't tell that you like her is even more embarrassing honestly," Youngjae chuckles, ignoring my denial. "Why don't you just tell her instead of letting her fall into the arms of your best friend?"

I raise my eyebrows at him. "You're making this sound like it's some sort of drama," I ignore his question and pick at my fingers. "Plus, why are you even asking this? Aren't you her date?"

He grins. "You already know what's going on," He waits for me to say something. When I don't, he continues, "Seriously dude, if you like her so much, don't let anyone get in your way, even if that anyone happens to be your best friend."

With that, Youngjae turns around and walks out of the kitchen, leaving me surprised.

Was I just confronted by some guy I just met about my feelings?

Was I that obvious?

If some guy noticed about how I felt towards Miyoung, wouldn't that mean that Miyoung would know?

I scoff. Who am I kidding? She's literally one of the slowest people I've ever met, she'll probably never know unless I tell her myself.

Sighing, I grab my red solo cup and head to the living room, wanting to get some action.

I needed something. Anything.

On cue, I see a tall, dark haired girl by the wall, eyeing me. I winked at her and motioned her to come dance with me.

She smiled and started to come my way when I noticed something I wish I had never seen.

In front of me Taehyung and Miyoung were close together, dancing together, hugging each other. Her arms were wrapped around his neck as she gazed up at him lovingly. He had his arms around her waist, getting the chance to pull her closer with each passing moment.

My breath hitched in my throat as I watched the next scenes unfold.

He leaned in closer to her, whispering something in her ear before locking his lips with her.

My heart plummeted, shattering while the pieces of it just seemed to fly everywhere.

Please stop. Stop. Please.

Anger, jealousy, sadness, and betrayal was all I felt as I watched him pull her tighter. I felt something wet dripping down the sides of my arms. I look down and notice that I had crushed the cup in my hand.

I can't take this.

Everything around my was fuzzy. I couldn't concentrate, I couldn't think straight.

Once they pull away, Miyoung immediately locks eyes with me. It was as if she had known I was there. It seemed as if she knew she was hurting, taunting me.

But she didn't.

I bit the inside of my cheek, my fists clenched by my sides in anger.

Taehyung.

Miyoung.

Miyoung.

She ran away after Taehyung had whispered something in her ear. I watched her run out the doors, not bothering to look for her date or for anyone.

Everything in me screamed at me to go chase after her, to tell her what she did had hurt me, had broken my heart. I wanted to tell her how I felt and end this torture for good.

But I didn't.

Instead I stood there, glaring at my best friend who stood there, his face flushed in embarrassment as he looked out the door Miyoung had just run out of. He ducked his head and walked out the other way, completely ignoring me.

He knew I was there. He definitely knew.

The girl I had invited over earlier had finally reached me. Before she could utter a word, I threw my now broken cup on the ground and stormed outside in search of Miyoung, but of course, she had already left.

This is how it always seems to be with Miyoung and I. She's there one moment, I'm so close to her, and she runs away. And I don't do anything about it.

I plop down on the gravel and dig my face into my hands, my mind replaying the kiss shared between my best friend and the girl I was in love with just moments earlier.

Does this mean I lost?

There was no way I was going to lose. I was first place for a reason. I got everything I wanted.

Everything, except for the one thing I truly want.

Miyoung.
