《in time ✱ j. jungkook》✱ chapter thirty-one

this book is a flop and a half yikes
After patching things up with Jungkook, things started falling back into place.
Taehyung and I had talked about going on another date since we had so much fun on the last one, but we never made plans. It's just all talk for now.
Taehyung and Jungkook still have a bit of tension between them. Even if they're trying to hide it, I can sense it from a mile away.
They would talk and hang out, but you could see the spark of tension between them. One would glare at the other when the other wasn't looking, or they would just speak too casually.
The whole situation was weird between them. I don't know exactly what's going on between them, but one thing I do know is that I'm not going to meddle in their business.
I've learned my lesson.
I was currently stretching in the field, getting ready to run two laps around the field for physical education.
I was looking at Taehyung and Jungkook who were also stretching together, but not daring to say anything to the other.
Nayoung was out sick today, so I was currently alone.
I mean, I could go to the boys seeing now that I'm friends with them, but I feel like that would ignite the fire even more.
So I decided to stay rooted to my spot, stretching and keeping a close eye on them.
All of the sudden I see Jungkook stand up abruptly, say something to Taehyung, and head towards me.
My eyes go wide. Uh oh, what if they were secretly planning a plot to dispose of me all this time?
I look over to Taehyung who's eyes were hardened our way. His jaw was clenched and his stare looked like he could kill.
I did not like that.
I shivered and looked up to the figure who had blocked my sunlight.
Jeon Jungkook.
"Hey." He says casually, plopping down next to me and starting to stretch.
I raise an eyebrow, my eyes darting between him and Taehyung. "Uh... what are you doing here?"
"Can I not stretch with you?" He responds, looking at me with an eyebrow raised.
Bullseye. That's when I knew something was up. Why would he want to stretch with me anyways?
"I saw you stretching earlier with Taehyung," I say, glancing back at Taehyung who was now with some other friends. He would occasionally look our way. "Why don't you just stick with him?"
Jungkook rolls his eyes, stretching his legs. "Because I don't want to be with him right now."
I blink. "Oh."
"Can we not talk about him?" Jungkook asks, annoyance evident in his features. "I know that might be hard for you, considering you're like in love with him or whatever, but for just this once could he not be a topic of conversation?"
Shocked, I blink again to come back to my senses. Did I just hear what I think I heard?
"Woah there," I draw out. "Calm down."
I wanted to correct him and say that I wasn't in love with Taehyung, I feel like that's too much strong of a word. I just like him, a lot.
But I knew that would set him off even more.
So instead I keep quiet, keeping my eyes downcast and focusing on stretching my legs.
He huffs out a breath. "I'll race you."
"What?"
Smirking, he says, "Come on Miss Second Place, we haven't had a competition in a while. You scared that you can't win?"

I scoff. "Of course not. What do you have in mind?"
All thoughts of Jungkook and Taehyung's argument were soon vanished, the only thoughts corrupting my mind were on how I could beat Jungkook.
"For the two laps. Whoever gets first place, well, gets the satisfaction of knowing that they got first place." He smugly says.
"Boring," I dramatically say. "How about whoever gets second has to buy the other something of their choice?"
I was confident that I was going to win. Although he was pretty good at running laps, I was pretty sure that I could beat him.
Jungkook raises an eyebrow. "Oh? Game on."
He stands up and offers his hand out to help me up, but I smack it away and stand up.
"Not today Jeon, not today." I glare at him. He chuckles and shrugs.
The teacher calls everyone and we all gather up at the line. Jungkook and I stand next to each other, getting in position for the race.
"Uh oh, Jungkook and Miyoung are going at it again." I hear a voice say behind us.
"I'm not even surprised anymore."
I chuckled dryly as I stare at front, gathering a plan in my head on how I would win.
As soon as our teacher yells for us to start, Jungkook and I are off. The rest of our classmates are jogging or walking, not bothering to put in as much effort as we were.
We were head to head. It was either Jungkook up front for a bit before I caught up to him or vice versa.
I could just stick out my foot and trip him, dubbing me the winner. But that's cheating, and I want to be able to win fair and square without having to use any methods of cheating.
I want to win because of my skills.
We finished the first lap, now heading to our second and final lap. We were still head to head and there was no sign of either one of us quitting now.
We zoomed past our classmates, all of them either cheering Jungkook's name or mine.
When we ran past our classmates, I had locked eyes with Taehyung for a split second.
His eyes sparkled with an unreadable emotion that I couldn't decipher. How could I? I merely glanced at him.
Was he okay?
I shook my head to get rid of the thoughts. For now, my only thought was to beat Jungkook and finally kiss first place hello.
As we were nearing the finishing line, I had looked back over at Taehyung who was still watching me with that emotion in his eyes.
Something jolted within me, and the next thing I knew, I was tripping over my own feet and I skidded across the pavement. I hissed in pain as I felt my legs and elbows starting to burn.
I look up to see Jungkook crossing the finishing line, his famous victorious expression dancing on his face. My classmates had run past me and to Jungkook, congratulating him on his win.
Yeah, I'm okay, thanks guys.
I groaned and lie there, feeling my blood oozing out of my legs and elbows. Why did the track have to be pavement out of all things?
"Are you okay?" A deep voice whispers beside me.
My head jolts up to see Taehyung squatting down, concern etched on his face. His eyebrows were furrowed as he scanned my position.
Major swoon.
I hiss as I try to get up. "Honestly? I think I'm going to die. It hurts so bad."

"Here, let me help you." Taehyung offers, lifting me up to get me into a sitting position.
He winces when he takes a good look at my face.
I know I'm ugly, but you don't have to physically show me and lower my already beaten-down ego.
"You're bleeding." He points out.
"No shit, Sherlock." I scoff.
Taehyung chuckles and brings his thumb on my cheek, wiping it painfully slow. "You've got a cut on your cheek and you've got a nose bleed. One arm and leg also got a scratch."
I groan again, bringing my hand up to wipe the blood off my nose. Taehyung chuckles. "You just smeared the blood all over you."
"I bet I've never looked better than I do right now." I joke.
Truthfully, I was highkey nervous. I looked like Bloody Mary in front of the guy I liked, how could I not get self-conscious right now?!
"You just need a trip to the nurse," Taehyung says, coming closer to me and turning around s that his back was facing me. "Here, get on my back. I'll carry you to the nurse's office. You're in no condition to be walking right now."
I vigorously shake my hands in defense. "No! I'm going to get blood all over your uniform. I can walk."
Taehyung turns around, opening his mouth to begin his protest when a figure comes up to us, interrupting our moment.
"Woah, you look like you just got hit by ten trains in a row." Jungkook joked, a smirk staring to creep its way onto his face.
"Thanks." I sarcastically say, ready to just give up right then and there.
From the corner of my eye I see Taehyung bite his lip with an annoyed look on his face.
"Dude, not cool," Taehyung bites at Jungkook, earning a glare from the other boy. "Get on, Miyoung."
"But your uniform!" I whine in protest.
Jungkook butts in, squatting down next to me with a hard look on his face. "I can carry her to the office, I'm stronger anyways."
I dart my eyes towards Jungkook. Oh dear.
Taehyung scoffed. "No, Miyoung'll come with me."
I look back at Taehyung. Oh boy.
"Why would she go with you, you weasel? You can't even carry an apple without whining." Jungkook exaggerates.
"Oh, and why would she go with you? You're the reason why she's hurt in the first place. Besides, you didn't even stop to see if she was okay when she first fell down, because all you care about is yourself." Taehyung hisses at him.
My mouth slowly hangs open at the venomous words that had just left Taehyung's lips.
Woah, what?
Although he did have a point there. But little did he know that he was truly the reason why I tripped.
Or better yet, it was me being clumsy per usual.
"Hey," I coo to Taehyung. "It wasn't his fault. I was being clumsy."
Taehyung's shoulders visibly relax, but his hardened stare was still towards Jungkook. "He didn't even bother to see if you were alright."
I immediately keep my mouth shut. I hated this situation. I hated being stuck in the middle of some feud going on when I didn't even know the reason why it was going on in the first place.
"That's not true." Jungkook spits at him.
"It is and you know damn well." Taehyung fires back.
Both boys were now full-on glaring daggers at each other, their fists clenched by their sides and nostrils flaring.
I didn't know what the hell was up with them, but there was one thing I knew for sure.
I did not want to be here anymore.
Although they both looked attractive when they were angry, I knew it was better for me to get out of there before all hell broke loose.
Besides, I would much rather still be alive than be right smack in the middle of two pretty buff guys' fights.
That was a no from me.
"Well," I squeak out, struggling to get up. "While you two start this cat fight, I'm going to go get cleaned up before I pass out due to blood loss. Thanks for your help guys, but I'm out."
"Wait Miyoung, you need help getting to the nurse's office." Jungkook says, also standing up, Taehyung following shortly behind him.
I shake my head and push his hands away from me. "Nope! I'm a strong, independent woman who don't need no one."
As I begin to walk away from them, my legs give up on me, sending me tumbling forward.
I groan as I hit the pavement once more.
I've had more action with this pavement then I've ever had with anyone in my life.
Chuckling at my clumsiness, I struggle to get up once more. Two pairs of hands grab at my sides, lifting me up.
Taehyung was on one side while Jungkook was on the other. Neither one of them said a word as they dragged me to the nurse's office.
The walk there was silent, and for once in my life I was never so grateful for silence in my life. I didn't want to hear anything else from them for now.
Before we reached the nurse's office door, Jungkook leans by my ear and whispers, "Don't forget, you owe me a ice cream after school today."
I bite my lip to avoid yanking myself off of their grips to punch Jungkook.
"You're seriously making me treat you to ice cream after I've suffered an injury? You animal." I hiss back at him.
Also why would I go out in public looking like this? Like Jungkook said, I was pretty sure I looked like I got run over by ten trains, probably even more now that I fell once again.
"What can I say, Miss Second Place? A deal is a deal, no matter what happens." Jungkook smugly says once we reach the office.
"I fucking hate you," I cuss out at him, squirming out of both of their grips. I lean onto the door handle and turn to look at them. "Anyways, thanks asshats for bringing me here and avoiding any more injuries for me. Now, take your leave."
I shoo them off with my hands as if they were flies.
"And while you're at it, fix this little drama you guys got going on between you," I remark, opening the door and shakily darting my finger between the two. "I don't know why you guys are acting the way you are, but it's quite exhausting to see you two pretend you're best buds in front of everyone when in reality you two want to rip each other's throats out." I pause, taking a breath before continuing. "Now go, shoo."
I walk in the office and slam the door before either one of them could say a word.
The nurse jumps in her seat, turning to me with a bewildered look on her face.
I sheepishly smile. "My face and bruises need some major help."

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
