《The Silence Within》Chapter 14

The couple walked hand in hand, laughing as they got to the gate. Shawn looked down at the woman next to him, her laughter ringing deep into his ears like music. She opened those brown eyes and he could feel his heart skip a bit.

"I had a wonderful time" Lola waved her purse as they halted in front of the gate.

"I am glad you did" He touched her hair, slipping his hand into the curls. "I hope we meet again. You know hang out and catch up"

"Let's see" She smiled. "Just give me a call when you are free"

"About that" She touched his chest, gazing at him from under her lashes. "Why don't you give me a call? I do not know when I will be free" Her voice was supple, soft and honeyed that it pebbled his skin with goose bumps.

Shit! Where has this damsel being all his life. She was the kind he needed. A woman he could flaunt. She was perfect. Does she have any flaws?

"Alright. Good night" He took the courage, stepped closer then leaned in the peck her lips.

"Night" She flipped back her hair, flapped her eyelashes and smiled. "I will be expecting your call" She ran a hand over his cheek.

Lola waited until his car drove away before turning to enter the gate.

"Orekelewa" The familiar voice called halting her.

A vein jerked in her head. "What are you doing here?" She ground out swirling to see Joshua.

Joshua grinned at her. "I followed you" He shrugged coming closer.

"I am not in the mood to talk to you. As you can see I had a wonderful night and I am still going to have more of it. I won't allow you to ruin it" She snorted.

"We were meant to have a date tonight" He stepped further into the light.

He looked kind of rough, weary and..... Her eyes travelled through his frame. Did she detected sadness? His tie was loose around his neck. Sleeves rolled up to his elbow and the first few buttons of his shirt were undone.

"So?" Her eyebrow went up with that arrogant look. "I was never interested in that dumb date my grandparents had to set up for me with you"

"You could tell me you were never interested"

"Are you dumb?" Lines creased on her forehead. "Do I have to tell you everything with my lips?" She flicked her hair back, swaying closer. "You should understand my attitudes towards you. I do not like you!" She barked to his face, the refinement fading away.

"But I want to talk to you"

"Look here. I will make things clear to you. I am not interested in you" she voiced out, changing her pose with refinement.

He admired her. She had changed her hair, he noted. The brown hair had gone and now replaced with medium length black curls, a side parting added a chic look. The tresses was somewhat voluminous, obviously high-priced. Her heavy-lidded eyes, smeared with eye shadow and eyeliner were a little bit slanted at the end. Her irises reminded him of the colour of brandy. Eyelashes that were neither short nor long but thick and curled at the end framed the hostile pair of brown eyes.

Had he done anything to receive such inimical treatment and dislike from her? She pulls him to her, he won't denial that. She pressed her lips into a thin line. The pair looked bare but he knew she had painted them with nude lipstick. It was time to come clean.

"You draw my attention. I like you" she narrowed her eyes. He smiled, that appealing smile that livened up his face. She raised her hand towards her hair. Her nails were coated in pink. Last time, they were shining and black. The immaculate digits pushed back her hair, sliding a bit into the curls. What he felt, he had never felt it before. It shot straight to his core, hauled shivers into his bones and deep into his brain making him freeze in his seat for a very brief moment. A woman's fingers had never been that pretty to him nor had they ever make him feel that way "You see, Orekelewa, I am a straightforward man. I don't know but you tickle my fancy"

"Stop wasting your time Josh" she pressed her lips. Her dimples flashed. Damn, she was a beauty. "Search somewhere else. Getting attracted to me is a waste of time" he sensed the honesty in those words. Why would it be a waste of time? He thought. There had to be reasons.

"To be sincere" he leaned forward but she stood still, eyes looking deep into his. "I have seen you before we met in Tarkwa Bay" he had his attention on her face. He had not missed how her eyebrows had come together even though her expression was still the same. "The first time was at Sweet Sensation. You were with your friends. I do not know but that girl with a different accent was the one who got into me. Your American accent was thicker then even now, it's still kind of thick. I met you again at Club Quilox"

"You don't seem like the one to afford that kind of place"

Joshua smiled "Well" He shrugged. "You were alone at the bar. A guy came to you. You did not like him but you spoke to him with a smile. The he slipped his hand under your skirt. You were startled then furious before slapping him with your purse" the corners of his lips arched up at the memory. She stared at him. "I met you again at Tarkwa Bay. I had crashed into you knowingly because I wanted your attention which I got it"

He was parked across the street again but this time in the dark where his car could hardly be noticed. As he sipped the soda which left a sweet and potent taste he had always taken pleasure in on his tongue, his eyes never left them. The man she had with her, was striking but not her type. She loved rich men, sophisticated ones that were as loaded as she was. She had one but she lost the chance she had with him. With her eyebrow up and head slightly crooked to the side, he could tell she was bowled over. She stood still, doubt washed over her face with her eyes on this man he had sudden hatred for.

He understood her in detail that he could tell her mood with one look at her haunting face. They had had a splendid time together. She had left memories that were etched in his mind behind for him to revel in, reminiscences that made him want her, just for himself. She had always been his but she was yet to realise that.

The guy's smile was intact without flinching. They held one another's eyes and he abhorred it. No man looked at his woman that way. Lola was his and his alone. He threw the whole content of the soda down his throat. She was the type of woman who walks into a man's life and her absence leaves many occasions for him to recall, many to give him sleepless night just the way she had done to him.

Time was what he needed, just the right time then he would walk back into her life, the life she had made him get used to. His lips curved up into a jolly smile. He would like to see her face when she meets him. The look of surprise in her mesmerizing eyes, the little fall of those luscious lips. That moment will be engraved into his heart and head forever. He will just wait for the right time and when it comes, he will sit back and enjoy it.

"You did a good job by ruining my blouse with beer that night" Lola tilted her chin up. He hoped he could know what she was thinking. She was obstructing too many emotions with her blank look.

"All you needed to be was polite and not rude"

"I was angry. You spilt the beer over me. That was a good way to meet me Josh" Rage flourished in her eyes. He liked it.

"You should be throwing insults at me. My third meeting with you was intentional" She looked away from him to get her glass of red wine. She took more sips than before. He noticed, she was nervous. Has his words gotten into her?

"My advice to you Josh, block whatever feelings you are building for me, physical or emotional, block them away. I won't give you what you want. I will end up hurting you"

"You need to know something about me Orekelewa, I do not give up easily" What a fool? She thought rolling her eyes. "You can push me away all you want but I will keep coming back until I break the walls you have built around you" he rocked on his feet.

In the beams of light at the entrance, she radiated nothing but loveliness and a thing that made his heart skip, something that made him want very much of her. His hand kept itching him to caress the hollow in her cheeks and a part of him told him he should kiss her cheek. The aftermath of that could be a slap. She was not the type to get tizzy by those kind of gestures so he stuck his hands into his pockets not sure if they were out, he will be able to kill the urge.

"Goodnight" she said and turned away obviously wordless.

"Orekelewa" he called before she could go inside.

Her pulse stuttered. In the luminous beams of the bulbs, he was nothing but stunning. For once, she saw his beauty, the splendour in his smile and sparkle in the eyes she all of a sudden found pretty. His face was stunning, the type women screeched or get astonished at when they look at. Deep set of black eyes sat away from each other underneath bushy eyebrows and framed by thick eyelashes. Sharp cheekbones carved down to a pointed chin scuffed with little hair. A pair of pale pink plump lips rested below a straight nose.

"What?" He liked that rude and curt reply which he smiled to.

"I hope we meet again"

"I hope we don't" she spat then sauntered in.

Joshua watched her back as she went inside. His sixth sense tells him they were going to have more than what they have. He knew right from the time he set his eyes on her that she was the one. He just knew it. He had no reason to why and how. He could still remember what had popped into his mind that day. Where the hell have you been, Orekelewa?
