《Married By Chance》Chapter 34: Back in London.

Adam's outfit above.

So we've been in London for three weeks now. Actually, Adam has been in London for three weeks because I went to Paris for three days and I also have to go to Milan this week.

Yesterday, both Adam and I had a meeting with Nicolas Ghesquière on our met gala outfits. We're going as a couple so our outfits have to come together in a way.

Nicolás came with a couple of sketches and I chose a certain dress that I love and then we edited it a little and finally decided on the design. Adam just went along with everything and asked me to help him choose and I did.

It's been so good between us. We've having so much fun over the last couple of days.

He took me to watch a soccer game with him because he absolutely loves them but I wasn't really in to it. The best part was just watching him enjoy something that he loves.

We also went to the amusement park with Asia and went on almost all the rides. It's just crazy how different Adam is in this country. He's so much happier and he's mood is a lighter.

He definitely still gets moody and becomes mean sometimes. Like two days ago, we went Gielgud theatre to watch a show and he literally ignored me throughout but then he was so sweet at the end of the night. He took me to a private ice cream tasting and then we went on a boat ride.

During our time together, I mostly do the talking and he just listens. I talk to him about my friends, school, movies, things that I like and so on. Sometimes he also contributes to the conversation but not very deeply.

We haven't really had a deep conversation. I feel like he's still holding back but honestly, I'm not complaining. I love spending time with him no matter what way we do it.

Today, we took a plane to Latvia, Scotland. We are spending the night here, in a CASTLE!

Another thing that's on my bucket list. After we settled in the most beautiful castle ever, we came out for a picnic in a beautiful colourful rose garden.

Adam asked someone to set the picnic with some berries, grapes, cheese, crackers, some bread and a chocolate cream pie.

"This is like a dream come true." I tell Adam once we seat on the picnic blanket. "I'm a sucker for fairytales and I love flowers gardens. I can't believe that you remember."

He just shrugs and throw a grape in his mouth. He is sitting with his hands stretched behind him and his legs stretched front.

The weather is really nice. It's kind of cool but in a good way.

"Can we play twenty questions?"

He looks at me. "No."

My face falls. "Why?"

"I don't like being asked questions. I've told you that."

"But I just want to get to know you." I say softly.

"Amelia, we've been getting to know each other for the past three weeks. I've shown you my favourite places, you know what my favourite movie is, you made me take you where I did primary school-"

"Fine!" I cut him off. "You don't have to get upset over everything." I frown then turn away from him.

His phone starts ringing and he stands up and walks away so I lie down and fall asleep.

****

When I wake up, I see Adam standing by some of the flowers.

I rub my eyes and sit up. "What are you doing?" I ask in a sleepy voice.

He turns around and I see some roses in his hands. "Picking flowers for you." He says.

I smile and take them. "Thank you."

He joins me on the blanket, taking a strand of my hair from my face and pushes it back. "Are you still upset?"

I shake my head. "No."

He smiles softly and lightly pinches my cheek. "Do you still want to play?"

"If you want to." I reply, feeling the heat of my cheek.

"Ask away." He says.

I take a bunch of grapes and start eating. "Do you really not lie? Like at all?"

I know it's such a random question but I want to know the answer. To what extent can I really trust him?

"No, I don't. Do you?"

"I do but I'm a pretty bad liar. People can always tell when I'm lying so I don't really lie a lot."

"I just don't see the point. I believe that people lie when they are afraid, I'm not afraid of anyone."

"Because you're so rich and powerful."

"You are also rich and powerful, wife. Black Industries is ours."

"Why do keep saying that?"

"Because it's the truth. I like sharing my life with you."

"Your company is your life?"

"It's all I have so yes."

"What do you mean?"

"When I first started building the company, I didn't think it was going to be as successful as it is now but I wanted it to be. I wanted to do something that matters, something that will be my backbone."

I shake my head. "I don't understand why your company will mean that much to you."

"Because it is all I have. That is why I wanted it to be huge."

"What are you talking? You have your family and your friends!"

His eyes turn dark and he just shakes his head.

"Adam, are you saying that you don't care about them?"

He just shrugs and my eyes widen.

Most of his shrugs mean yes."

"Do you care about me?"

His eyes soften. "You know I do."

I smile. "I care about you too. A lot. And if you feel like you don't have your friends and family, always remember that you have me."

He slowly smiles then let's out a chuckle, giving me those dimples.

"I'm serious!" I exclaim.

"I know. You're just so damn cute." He says.

I blush. "Whatever."

"Now, it's your turn to talk."

"About what?"

"What are your plans for the future?"

I scrunch my face in confusion. "Huh?!"

"What are the things that you want in life besides your bucket list? How do you see yourself in the next five to ten years?"

"I don't know."

All I know is that I want an amazing husband and some kids. I have never really thought about what I want my life to be like.

He scowls. "You don't know?"

"I, um...nobody has ever asked me something like that before." I whisper.

Adam seems confused and I don't blame him really. He wanted to start a company since he was like eleven years old and he accomplished that at the age of twenty.

At twenty one, I don't even know where I'm heading or what I really want.

"With my parents, it had always what they wanted. The first time that I ever went for something that I wanted was when I decided to go for Architecture." I explain.

"So that's what you want? To become a big shot architect?"

I bite my lip then shake my head.

"Then what do you want?" He asks softly.

"Uh-"

"You do want to be successful, right? You want to have something that you're proud of?"

I sigh. "I have never really thought about any of that. When I chose Architecture, it wasn't because I was into designing buildings, I just went for it because it was the combination of my favourite subjects in high school and a part of me, kind of wanted to rebel against my father because he wanted me to study Business and Entrepreneurship."

Even though I do like Architecture. I just don't see myself doing that for life. I'm so confused.

"How about your modelling career?"

"My mum signed me up when I was like thirteen."

"Do you enjoy it?"

"Sometimes. I used to hate it because I felt like it was something that she chose for me but I later realised that there was no point. I like all the traveling and dressing prettily and also listening to people tell me how beautiful I am but I don't want to be just that."

"I thought you loved being a model."

"Not really. It's fun but it's not something that I'm in love with it. Lately, it became my escape place, I only worked when I had problems at home. This is the first time in forever that I decided to model without a reason."

Well, except for the fact that it is my only source of income. I rejected money from Daddy.

"I think you should quit." Adam blurts and I widen my eyes. "What? I don't want to quit."

"In that case, you should work harder then. Stop turning down offers because there are a lot of people that are dying to get them."

"I get that now, trust me. That was why I'm doing all this work now. Louis Vuitton is a pretty big deal and I'm honoured that they chose me to be their ambassador." I state and he nods in understanding. "By the way, did you have anything to do with that?"

He shakes his head. "No."

"Nicole told me that you have shares in LVMH."

"That's true but-"

"That is so fucking cool, Adam! You have shares in the company that owns Sephora, Dior, Balenciaga and so on!" I exclaim.

"I met Bernard Arnault a few years back and he offered me some shares and I bought them."

"That's amazing." I tell him.

"Yeah but I had nothing to do with your ambassadorship. I was obviously asked if it was okay to ask you and I told them yes."

"Oh! Alright."

"I did not mean to pressure you when I asked what you wanted to do with your life. I just think that people like us have the opportunity to do whatever we want. Time is precious. Don't let yours go to waste."

"You are really wise and smart for your age." I smile.

"Experienced." He corrects.

"I'm really glad that you asked me to come with you and going to the orphanage." I take a deep breath then look into his eyes. "You are such an amazing person, Adam. You are so kind and generous. What you've given those kids is really beautiful."

"I know that I'm really lucky and fortunate with my career. The least I can do is to save as many kids as I can and give them a better life."

"Talking to the girls really opened my eyes and my heart. I can't imagine what it feels like to grow up without a mum or a dad. My parents gave and guided me through everything. Even though they kind of over did it, I know my life would have been a mess without them in it."

The kids at the orphanage don't have everything but they are so happy. They were playing around, smiling. Things like that make you appreciate what you have. Like who am I to complain when there are people out there who seem to be satisfied with just that?

"So next question, what's the first think that you noticed about me?" I ask him.

"Your golden eyes." He answers without hesitation.

"My eyes are hazel not golden."

"Golden hazel now but they were really golden when we were kids." He says.

"Oh! Was that why you called me pretty?" I smile teasingly.

"You called me pretty too."

"You were, you still are."

He rolls his eyes. "I am not pretty. That's something that you say to girls."

"Okay. You're ravishingly handsome, smoking hot, extremely sex-"

He covers my mouth with his hand. "Stop." He laughs.

"You have a beautiful laugh." I smile.

He rolls his eyes and shakes his head.

"It's your turn."

"What was your first impression of me?"

"When we were kids, I felt an admiration because it was so nice for you to give me a kit kat but when I saw you at my dad's office, I was like, 'this is the most beautiful man I have ever seen' but then you opened your mouth and I was like 'he's a fucking jerk." I chuckle.

He chuckles back. "That's why when people are always saying that I'm so handsome or whatever, I'm just like, it is just a face because I am really fucked up underneath."

I roll my eyes. "You are so deep and I don't believe you. You're just saying a horrible thing about yourself to scare me away and despite, what you think about yourself, I like who you are underneath. June, Cooper, Talia and everyone else we live with do to."

"They don't know me."

I decide to brush away the topic. "Why did you pretend that you did not know me before?"

It takes him a while to give me an answer. "When we bumped into each other, I did not recognise you. It was when Brian introduced you to me at my parents' house that I knew who you were."

I take a sip of my lemonade. "I can't believe that I forgot all about it. You should have told me after we got married."

"The truth is, I did not want to set any expectations."

"What?"

"About you and I." He answers slowly.

"You are so arrogant! You thought I was going to fall in the love with you."

"You had a huge crush on me back then." He smiles.

I fold my arms give him a pointed look. "I believe that crush was reciprocated. Why are you so against the idea of us happening anyway?"

"I don't have time for love."

"But you've had girlfriends in the past."

"I haven't had a girlfriend in two years. Girls expect too much and demand too much of my time so I stopped doing relationships." He explains.

"I never wanted for us to be in a relationship. I only wanted to be friends." I clarify.

"Most of my female friends end up catching feelings for me. That was why I said no when you asked me to be friends."

"Oh my God! You are so arrogant." I mutter.

"It's not arrogance. I just know that I have a certain effect on women." He says confidently.

Hell yeah, he does.

And of course he knows. Girls are always eyeing him like piece of meat.

"I was still in love with Liam then!"

"You don't love him anymore?"

"Nope."

"Why?"

"He's gone so what's the point? I don't want to keep wasting my time on him and being miserable." I reply.

"Yeah." He just says.

****

"What the heck?" I whisper in disbelief.

Adam is still sleeping! We are supposed to go to go swim with dolphins today.

We are back in London.

We came back from Scotland last night. Sleeping in the castle was so great. I felt like a princess with my handsome dark haired prince sleeping in the room next to mine.

I walk over to his bed. "Adam."

"Adam!" I say a little bit louder.

He doesn't budge so I move over to shake but then I see his forehead sweaty and it's kind of cold in here. Oh my God.

Is he sick?"

I take off my gloves and touch his forehead then down his neck and fuck!

He is burning hot.

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!

What do I do?

I try to take the duvet off him but he holds on to it tight.

With a sigh, I leave the room and call Wesley on the phone. "Hey, girl."

"Wesley, I think Adam is sick. He's burning up and I don't know what to do. Can you call the doctor or something?"

"I will go get him some pills from the clinic. You just stay with him. It's probably just a little fever. Don't worry."

"Okay." I sigh and hang up.

I head downstairs to the kitchen and start taking out ingredients to make him a soup.

My heart is pumping loudly in my chest. Wesley said I shouldn't worry but I am so fucking worried.

It doesn't take me long to finish making the soup. I pout it on a tray with a glass of water and climb back upstairs.

I have never been with a sick person alone.

I don't know what to do.

I drop the tray on the nightstand then enter his bathroom. I see a big glass bowl so I take it and fill half of it with cold water then take it with a fresh towel and go back in to the room.

I also put the bowl on the night stand with the towel over my shoulder and try waking Adam again. I call his name and start shaking him till he finally opens his eyes and groans.

"Hi." I whisper.

I try taking off the duvet but he doesn't let me again. "I'm cold." He says.

"But we need to bring down your fever."

"No."

"Please, Adam. Your body is burning. Let me towel you and then you can put it back."

He reluctantly lets go of the duvet and frowns.

I sit by the side of the bed and sigh when I see he is still lying down.

"Can you sit up? I made you soup."

He sits up and I take the soup bowl from the tray and give it to him but he refuses to take it.

"Adam." I say gently.

He looks at me. "You do it."

I fight the urge to roll my eyes. He's acting like a baby. I take the spoon to his mouth and he opens. He swallows and opens again.

Definitely a baby.

My phone starts ringing. Maybe it's Wesley but then I realise that it's not even my phone that's ringing. It's Adam's.

Since it's closer to me, I unplug it from the charger and see that it's Ned.

"Thanks." He says and tries to collect but I don't give it to him.

I answer it and put it on speaker.

"Mr Black." Ned's voice comes through. "I'm calling to remind you of the conference call you have at three o'clock."

"Hi, Ned. This is Mrs Black." I smile. "Can you please cancel all calls or any other work related thing that Adam has today? He is not feeling well, I'm afraid."

"But-"

"Thank you." I say and hang up.

The expression on Adam's face doesn't give me anything. He just looks tired, still scowling.

"Do you want more soup?" I ask him and he shakes his head.

"How are you feeling?"

"Fucked. My head is pounding like hell."

"I'm sorry." I say softly then give his hand a squeeze.

"Can I lie down now?"

"I need to towel you first. Your body is still hot."

"My head hurts badly, Amelia."

"How about you put your head on my lap then I do it?"

"Fine. Whatever." He agrees.

I wet the towel then move closer on the bed. Adam moves his body from against the headboard then stretches on the bed with his head on my lap.

I dab the towel on his forehead and he winces.

"I'm sorry." I quickly apologise.

I continue dabbing gently and Adam just lays there quietly.

My phone starts ringing.

"Who the fuck is it?" Adam growls.

"It's Wesley." I tell him then I answer.

"I'm back." Wesley says.

"Alright, I'm coming." I hang up.

"You're not going anywhere." Adam says.

"I'm going to go get your meds."

"Ask him to come up."

"Why?"

"Because I don't want to move. I'm comfy."

I text Wesley and ask him to come up and two minutes later, he comes.

"How are you feeling, boy?" He asks Adam.

"Like shit." Adam replies, still lying on my lap with his eyes close.

"You need to chill a bit. Cut yourself from work." Wesley advises and Adam just hums.

"Thank you, Wesley." I say taking the meds from him.

I take the water from the nightstand and look at Adam. "You have to lift your head up."

He does and he takes the cup from my hand, finish taking the meds then looks at me.

"Thank you." He says softly.

"A husband must not thank his wife."

He holds my gaze for a while. "I feel better. You should go. Ask Wesley to take you out and you can go have fun."

"I'm not going anywhere."

"But we were supposed to go out this morning. I'm sorry." He looks down.

"It's not your fault, Adam. Just lie back down."

He gives me a look and gives in. "Only because your lap is a better pillow."

He lies back down and closes his eyes. "Talk to me." He says.

"About what?"

"Anything. Just talk."

"Okay. Once upon a time," I start then I look down at his face. He is so beautiful to look at.

Not being able to resist, I trace his thick well shaped eye brows then take my hand down to his nose and tap. "There lived a little boy named Adam."

"Booring." He mutters and I chuckle taking my hand back to his head. I've always wanted to feel his hair so I touch it. It's so soft.
