《Married By Chance》Chapter 2: It's not about him.

Amelia's outfit above.

"Ow." I moan in pain as I get up from my seat.

"What's wrong?" Jacob asks.

"I slept on the floor last night." I tell him.

"Why?" He laughs.

"I was just watching movie and I slept through." I lie.

Nobody knows about the tears I shed every night. They do know that something is wrong with me. Tyler always complains that I haven't been myself since the wedding.

Like I said, I don't know who I am anymore.

"That was a lie but I'll take it." Jacob chuckles.

I laugh softly and rest my head on his shoulder. "So what are your plans for today?" He asks.

"I'm going to the manicurist with my mum's best friend." I reply.

He rolls his eyes. "It's okay to call her your mother-in-law, Amelia."

"Fine. How about you?"

"Tyler and I are going house hunting then we're going to a party this girl in my Business class is having."

I raise an eyebrow. "House hunting?"

"Yeah, you know he didn't let me to move out of his house the last time."

"So now you guys are moving out together?"

"Yes."

I tilt my head. "Are you going to live together for the rest of your lives?"

"Probably. I can't live without him and he can't live without me." He answers with a shrug.

I love the bromance between Tyler and Jacob. It's so cute and at the same time so touching. They are cousins but they act like real brothers.

"Hey, Jacob." A girl waves at him as we walk.

"Hey, beautiful. See you tonight." He winks at her and she blushes.

"It's that the girl that's having the party?"

"No, her best friend."

We enter the school restaurant and I can feel all eyes on us. We join our friends at our table and say hi to them.

No one has really said anything out loud since the wedding but I can feel it.

I can hear it through their stares. I am the girl that married her ex boyfriend's brother.

Even though most people believe the council's fake story about Adam and I, I know that there are a lot of other people that don't believe a thing, especially the students in this University.

They all know. They all saw how much Liam and I loved each other or they don't because I have come to the realisation that Liam never loved me that much.

Maybe people even talked about it in the past, how my relationship with Liam wasn't real.

Perhaps some people saw it or maybe everyone did. Everyone except me, I was crazily in love.

I still am and I think I will always be.

"Want me to order for you?" Tyler asks me with a soft smile.

"Yes, please." I smile back.

****

"Amelia!" Aunt Diana exclaims as she sees me. We hug, both sharing kisses on the cheek.

"How are you, sweetheart?"

Sweetheart.

My chest tightens as she uses that endearment but I smile anyway. "I'm fine, thank you." I say.

We both sit on the massage chairs and dip our feet in the pedicure bowls.

She gives me a sad smile. "I'm glad that Adam is back now, honey. You two will be spending more time together."

Back? As in really back?

"Is he done with his work in Iceland?" I push a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Yes, he is."

"Oh." I mumble.

"He's going to take care of you, I promise."

I smile.

"I hope you two would talk and get to know each other. I have a very good feeling about your marriage." She grins.

"You do?"

"Yes, call it motherly instinct or what, I just know two you are going to bring out the best in each other."

"He doesn't even like me." I remind her.

She quickly shakes her head. "It's not like that. He is just very closed off and doesn't like relationships with people."

I still haven't figured Adam out since he hasn't stayed home for the time we've been married. When he comes, we only exchange a few words.

I remember the story that Liam told be about what happened to him in London though.

"I heard that he wasn't like that before." I speak.

"Of course not! I mean, he was when he was a kid that was why we took him to London but when he first came back he was better. He even brought back a girl the next time he came but unfortunately, she turned out to be a gold digging backstabbing bitch!" She says angrily.

"Aunt Diana!" I gasp putting my hand over my mouth.

She laughs. "What?"

"I can't believe you said that." I chuckle.

She laughs again.

"So was she the reason he became better?" I look down at my feet.

"No! The Walkers were. He was completely okay when he met her. It was such a tragic thing, what happened." She shakes her sadly.

I can't imagine what he went through. It really is so sad.

I nod my head. "It was."

"What I'm saying now is since he's back home, you two should try to at least get to know each other. Try being friends. I really have a feeling that you are going to get along." She says, sounding really convinced.

I give her a soft smile. "I will try."

She quickly wipes her tears and flashes me one of her beautiful smiles.

"Now! Enough about Adam. How is school? How are your friends?" She asks free spiritedly.

I began talking and we quickly got into a new conversation. Diana Black is so easy to talk to. She's an amazing woman. I love her so much.

"It was nice seeing you, honey." She kisses my cheek with a hug.

"You too." I smile.

I enter Adam's house with a sigh. What a long day! I have an assignment that I need to work on. I enter the my bedroom and I see pink balloons everywhere.

"Surprise!" Mae and Austin exclaim and I jump back.

"Ah! You guys almost gave me a heart attack." I put my hand on my chest, laughing.

They both laugh then I hug Austin. "What are you guys doing here?" I ask, looking up at him.

He is taller than me, it's annoying.

"Well, we both miss you." He says.

"I miss you guys too." I hug Mae.

"Adam welcomed us when we came. He said you went out with Aunt Diana." She says.

"Yeah." I sigh and jump on the couch. "What's with the balloons?" I chuckle.

"It was his idea." Mae rolls her eyes, pointing at Austin.

"I just thought it will be cute." He shrugs.

"So what do you guys want to do? We can go somewhere or we could stay in and chill. Your choice." I say even though I know they are not going to agree on the same thing.

"We were just watching a movie before you came in. If I must say, this house has the fastest wifi ever." Austin grins and sits down.

"Smith."

Chills run down my body as I hear the sexy husky voice. I turn my head towards the door where Adam is standing.

"He calls you 'Smith'?" Austin laughs in disbelief.

I glare at him and turn back to Adam. "What?"

He looks at Austin. "Can I talk to her for a minute?"

"Sure." Austin says.

He wants to talk to me but he's asking Austin, not me. He and I may kind of have gotten along on my birthday but he's gone back to hating me.

I roll my eyes and get up from the couch, following him out the door.

We go into his room and he sits on the sofa, crossing his legs. "I would like to speak to you when your siblings are gone." He says.

"Okay." I reply.

Is that why he called me all the way to his room? Just to tell me this?

"Is that all?" I ask.

"Yes."

I roll my eyes again and head back to my room where I find Mae and Austin arguing.

"No, Pistachio has better food than Vash." Mae says, putting a hand on her waist.

"No they don't!" He shakes his head in disbelief. "Even the name is lame, who the hell names their restaurant after a nut?"

"Vash is not a great name either!" She exclaims.

They are so predictable.

"Guys, why don't we just go have ice cream?" I suggest.

"Sure but Baskin Robins." Austin says.

"No, Cold Stone!" Mae argues as she picks up her phone and slips it in her pocket.

"I'm choosing." I tell both of them.

I change into a short dress and we leave. I drive us to Jacob and Tyler's family hotel. Their ice cream is so good and their food is amazing.

After placing our orders, I pull out my phone and text Tyler.

Hey Ty, I'm at Herz with Mae and Austin. Are you here?

💙No, Jake and I are in a meeting at The Summit.

The Summit is also one of the top hotels in world. It's where most of my friends stay when they come here.

"Amelia, can you please stop using your phone?" Austin speaks in an annoyed tone.

"Sorry." I smile at him then quickly reply Tyler.

Alright, have fun. I'll see you tomorrow.

"So what's up?" I beam at my siblings.

****

"Have a seat." Adam says as I go into his room.

"No, I'm good." I cross my arms over my chest, waiting for him to talk.

The room is everything like him. Dark, cold but there's a rich feeling to it. It also smells so good like he does. Mine is bigger though. I don't know why but I got the biggest room in the house.

"Why do you cry?" He speaks making me to meet his eyes.

What is he saying?

"What?" I chuckle.

He keeps his cold expression on still looking in my eyes. "I was told that you cry every night."

"I don't." I lie.

"I don't appreciate lies, Smith."

What else am I supposed to say? That I hate my life and being my married to him?

He already knows that.

He bites his lips and look away from my eyes. "Are you not happy?"

His question takes by surprise. Is he mocking me?

"How can I be? I hate this. I feel trapped here." I cry not literally though.

"You're not. This marriage does not mean anything. You can do whatever you like and if there is something you think you can't have, ask me. I will make sure you get it." His voice is a little bit softer this time but it's still somehow deep and manly.

"Why are you being nice?" I ask.

He shrugs. "I'm not. You are my responsibility, I do not want you to be unhappy all the time. It's not right."

"So you're going to give me anything I want?" I raise my eyebrow skeptically.

I don't understand what is going on. I haven't seen him in like three weeks and now he's acting nice. This is weird.

He nods. "The only thing I can not give you is Liam because he made his choice by leaving."

My heart tightens as I hear his name.

"It's not about him."

He raises an eyebrow. "What is it then? Is there another guy? You are free to have a boyfriend if you want to."

I widen my eyes. "You're asking me to have an affair?"

"If that would make you happy then yes, I am."

This is getting weirder every minute. What is going on? Why does he care?

Is there something up or does he really care? As much as I believe I do, I don't know Adam at all. I don't know what goes on in his mind.

"Why do you care if I'm happy or not?" I ask him.

"I know how hard this is. I promised you a divorce and I'm still working on it so before that, you should at least be happy."

If there is one person that hates this marriage more than me, it's Adam. He also can't wait for the divorce, I'm sure.

I can't believe I'm saying this but it's actually sweet of him to think about my happiness.

"Um..thanks, I guess."

He nods his head and crosses his arms over his chest. "You can leave now."
