《Seeing Red》You reek

My phone was ringing and it woke me up way earlier than I planned to on this lazy Saturday, I had no plans except for getting wasted on a brunch with Aria and couple of her friends.

"What is it Harry?" I yawned answering the phone.

"You really think that deleting social media would mean getting rid of everything?"

"What are you even saying?"

"Open the tweet I just sent you." She ended the call.

The link led me to a tweet that had been shared by hundreds of people. The tweet had a blurry picture of me and Darren from last night.

Oh gosh, hundreds of people were saying vile shit about me. Calling me a groupie, a cheat, clout chaser.

I was destroyed, with every word I read, I felt more pain. I wanted to curl into a ball and cry, I called up Harriet and spilled all my horrible feelings to her.

"You know it's not the truth! There's nothing you can do, what I can do is send you lots of hugs. It'll all be fine, we're coming over on Sunday and we're going to fix everything." She consoled me.

"I'm going to bail on Aria then, I can't possibly go out right now."

"No. You will go out, you haven't done anything wrong. Take care okay? And try and clear the air about this situation."

"Like you said, there's nothing I can do about it." I sighed.

I took a long shower, hoping that it would wash away the disgust I felt. I was mad at myself for letting this happen, and I was mad at him for not doing anything about him at all.

I quickly did my hair and the rest of my makeup and got tidying the place. I know she was going to be here only to pick me up but I still needed to make a good impression.

After a while the doorbell rang, she was here! With a confused look on her face, happy regardless. Ready to go? She asked. I nodded my head, we started our walk to the place.

"You're here!" A woman greeted us as we walked to the table.

"Tara, these are my friends!" Aria beamed taking a seat.

"I'm Daya." The woman who has greeted us first shook my hand.

"Hi! I'm Tara, I started working with Aria recently." I smiled.

"I'm Esha and she's Inaya." The woman with a pixie cut introduced herself.

"Hi Inaya! Hey Esha! Your hair looks really cool!" I complimented her.

"Oh! Thanks! They said that it makes me look unfriendly." She pursed her lips.

"Far from it! You look so cool."

"Should we order now?" Esha spoke up.

"Yeah we should, also drinks are on me so get whatever you want! I plan on getting embarrassingly drunk."

"Count me in! What's the occasion though?" Esha asked.

"Social media has decided to vilify me." I sighed.

We ordered food and I asked the waiter for mimosas, he informed me that they were having a bottomless mimosas kind of brunch. I was in luck.

Aria's band of friends were really fun, I learnt that they had been friends since their schooling days. They were still all together and hung out together every weekend.

Daya worked as a stylist, Esha was working in the field of finance and Inaya was currently on a break from her career.

"You little boys are adorable!" I squealed at Inaya's phone.

"Thank you! I love them but I can't wait to get back to the art gallery." She laughed.

"You work at a gallery? That's so interesting." I praised her.

"Not just work! She's the director of the modern art gallery-museum!" Aria chimed in.

Four mimosas down and I felt more than warm and fuzzy, Daya suddenly mentioned that my face looked strangely familiar to her. Aria got tense and looked at me, assuring me that I didn't have to tell her if I didn't want to.

"Thank you!" I beamed at the waiter handing me another mimosa. "Go easy with the orange juice, I want more champagne, thanks."

"I'll answer your questions, hit me!" I blabbered.

"Nothing, it's just you looked oddly familiar."

"You watch Formulaone? Fast cars? Zoom-"

"Yeah, I do!" She smiled.

There's this once handsome nincompoop called Charles. He's very popular but he's got so much self admiration, yuck. So I was "dating" him you know? It's almost as if I had no filter, I couldn't stop myself! I just kept vomiting words.

All of them looked confused but Daya looked entertained. I felt good about getting all of this off my chest and so I continued.

He's so full of himself! He couldn't even see how much he meant to me, he's the sun and we're all mere planets. You have to cry to be treated with basic human decency, he'll keep you around to stroke his ego.

"Wow, he sounds awful..." Esha filled the silence.

"Don't you dare call my Shaarl awful!" I cried.

He's beautiful! He's so so so beautiful, his mind. Have you seen his mind? It's so sharp, he's so clever! It's so sexy! He's so sexy! I love him so much.

"You just said that-"

No no scratch everything I said, he's a handsome bastard. He's so soft when he's happy. When he's with Mia, it fills my heart with happiness. And when he's playing the piano? OH MY GOSH HE LOOKS SO FINE. I wish I was hugging him right now.

"Okay, that's enough drinks for you." Aria stopped the waiter from giving me more.

"What? It's only been 5!" I complained.

"That you've counted! You've downed 8, no more for you!"

"You sound just like Charles! No more love for you! I got wanted I wanted hahahaha!!!!"

"Tara-"

"You know what I'm going to tell his manager about the problems Charles' character has." I pulled my phone out, looking for his management.

"No!" Aria tried snatching my phone away.

I resisted and continued typing away while she tried to catch hold of my wrists.

**********

I woke up in my bed, with Aria looking at me anxiously. I decided to sit up, which turned out to be a bad idea.

The minute I sat up, my head had a piercing pain and my mouth felt parched. So, maybe getting drunk was a bad idea.

"How are you feeling? I didn't know what to do so I called someone named Harry on your emergency contacts." She fretted.

"Oh! That's my sister Harriet. I feel like I've been hit by bus." I took a step out of my bed gingerly.

"Water?" I offered her a glass walking into the kitchen.

She accepted the glass and looked at me, something told me she had more on her mind than she was willing to tell me.

And then I realised I went to brunch with her and her friends. Oh shit. Her friends.

"I'm so sorry for ruining your outing with your friends." I hugged her.

"Don't be sorry! Esha already loves you." She hugged me back. "And you might want to shower, you reek!"

"Oh! Oops!" I quickly pulled away.

"Your sister said she'll be here by 8, that's in another hour. Do you want me to stay or should I head out-"

"There's no question of you going anywhere! I can't believe I ruined brunch for you. Please stay for dinner." I insisted.

Aria stayed, while I started with meal prep she set the table and we talked, well more of indulged in office gossip.

After a while the doorbell rang, I ran to the door to open it. Harriet looked worried while Julia and Gabriel peaked from behind her.

"We're so glad you're okay!" Julia hugged me which soon turned into a group hug.

"It's all thanks to Aria, she saved my stupid ass." I awkwardly smiled.

Harriet thanked her and the awkward introductions began. But Aria's such an extrovert it all worked out just fine.

In a few minutes of interaction Gabe and she were already chatting like frat boys and Julia joined in. Dinner went by pretty well, Harriet quickly whipped up a dessert with whatever ingredients she could find.

The day came to an end, but the after effects of alcohol didn't. I wanted them to sleep well after having to travel in a hurry. But the fact I was puking my guts out didn't help.

"Oh gosh! We should take her to the hospital." Gabe stated.

"No I'm fine!" I protested.

"I'm holding your hair back as you puke for the third time." Harriet sighed.

"How much did you drink?" Julia asked walking to the bathroom.

"About 8 mimosas..."

"EIGHT!?"

"Did you eat anything?"

"Apart from dinner? No."

"You drank 8 mimosas in an hour...on an empty stomach?"

"Yes." I gulped.

I protested I'll feel better tomorrow morning and sent them all to sleep. As I laid in bed I thought about the things I said at brunch, gosh I made a fool out of myself.

And I was going to blame it all on Charles, he walked into my life and turned it upside down. It has always been a mess but the time he was in it, it was a rosy mess. Now it's back to being a plain mess.
