《CAPTIVATED》Chapter Nineteen

"So... umm. I guess we should talk right?"

"How long have you been seeing her?" Alixandria cut straight to the point. She didn't seem mad or upset, just curious. Strange, Henry thought.

"That's the thing. I haven't." He ran a hand through his hair as he sat down beside Alixandria. "Alixandria, when I brought her here tonight, I—" Hell, Henry sighed before looking Alixandria straight in the eyes. "I thought she was you."

"Jesus, Henry, what the hell kind of excuse is that? We look nothing alike and considering I don't smell heavy alcohol on your breath, you're definitely not drunk enough to confuse me with her."

"I- That's not what I meant." His fists clenched in frustration.

"So then—"

"I thought she was you! After work, I went out to drink with some of my coworkers at a venue. I didn't plan on staying long, until I ran into you there—"

"Henry, what are you talking about?"

"You came up to me at the bar. Told me you were out with Camilla. So, we stayed, drank a bit and then..." He looked down before groaning. "Then we came back home."

"Yeah, except you came back home with her and not me."

"I know."

A long pause filled the air before any of them spoke.

"Henry, I- I was at that bar, but when I saw you, I saw you with her."

"What?!"

"I—"

"And you didn't think to say anything!"

"I—" Alixandria wasn't sure what to say. At the time, she hadn't said anything because a part of her hadn't cared that Henry had been out with another woman. She felt hurt, of course, but there was something in her that had shut off when she saw that. "I'm sorry." Was all she could muster.

Henry sighed, took a deep inhale before opening his eyes and looking straight at Alixandria. "Why are you sorry Alix? I'm the one who brought another woman home."

Alixandria didn't say anything, and her silence was killing him.

"Why didn't you intervene, Alix?" He took her clenched fist in his hand. For some reason, Henry felt that the action felt off, as if he had no right to touch her anymore, but he stomped that thought down. Regardless of what he felt, he didn't see why Alixandria should feel guilty. He would try to comfort her.

Alixandria looked uncomfortable. She bit her bottom lip, her eyes watery. Henry couldn't understand why she wouldn't intervene, until a thought crossed his mind.

"Did you... did you expect me to be cheating on you?"

Alixandria shook her head. "No, Henry, I just. I don't know. I don't know why I didn't intervene, but looking back now, I should have! I should have approached you and asked you what the hell you were doing with that woman."

"That's what any normal jealous partner would have done." Henry chuckled, low and humorlessly, if only to lighten the mood, and rubbed circles on her palm before letting go. "But you didn't. And if you're not jealous of me being with another..." Henry scooted closer to Alixandria, only now had the thought of losing her begin to weigh heavy on his chest. "then perhaps, you no longer have feelings for me?"

When Alixandria said nothing, Henry stood up away from her. You're not meant to be. Those words ran like poison in his veins and shot him straight in the heart.

"Alix, were you really there with Camilla?"

"Yes..." Alixandria nodded her head, but her refusal to look him in the eyes told him there was something more she had to say, but knew it would test the foundation of their relationship. "until her boyfriend showed up and then—"

"Then what Alix?"

"I left with Idris." It was barely a whisper but Henry heard her clearly and now he felt his heart turn to stone.

"Idris." His brow furrowed in thought, before his jaw clenched.

"That explains it." He huffed.

"Explains what?" Alixandria kept her head down.

"Why you weren't mad when you saw me with that girl...and why you won't meet me in the eyes right now."

A long moment of silence passed between them. One in which Alixandria expected Henry to react. To scream at her, curse her out and throw her out of their home, but instead he sat back down on a deep exhale. His reaction was not what she had expected. It was so different from the first time he had thought she was seeing another man, the time he had shown her the photo. This time he too seemed quiet and pensive.

"Y-you don't seem so upset."

"I'm fucking furious Alix, but what good would that do me?"

After a heartbeat, Henry finally turned to stare at her.

"Why Alixandria? Was I not good enough for you? Did I not make you feel loved?"

"N-NO! None of that Henry, you always made me feel so loved!"

"Then why?" ?" Henry felt like a coward for asking that, because deep down, he felt he was partly to blame.

He hadn't tried to rekindle the romance and a part of him had just hoped that Alixandria would not cheat, but she had admitted to being with that guy. His blood boiled and he felt something deep within him lashing to get out.

It took everything within him to remain in control. Alixandria came from an abusive past, and he didn't want to do anything that could trigger her...beside how raw he felt.

"I-I... I feel. Ughhh." She slumped down, crossing her arms. She stayed that way for a long moment, her eyes moving side to side as if searching for the correct words. "Do you believe that some people are destined to be together?"

"I used to think that about us."

"D-do you still?"

"Alixandria, before I knew what love was, I always felt this need to be with you, to protect you, and when we got older, I started realizing what that feeling was..." His hazel eyes met hers, deep with adoration as he continued.

"From the moment I met you Alixandria, I felt drawn to you. It was like this instinctual part of me took over and was begging me to have you. It was like... like my soul saw you before I ever even laid my eyes on you. And once I heard your voice, saw you, got to know you, I wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of my life beside you."

"Even now. As you sit here beside me, I- I can't help but want you. But, not if you don't feel the same Alix. So, tell me. Tell me what you want. If you even have any feelings for me."

"Of course I still have feelings for you Henry! You literally saved my life and—fuck," Alixandria studied Henry's hazel eyes. "You showed me what true love was. What it was like to be loved without cuts and bruises and I could never picture my life without you in it, but—" A deep lash crossed over her heart.

Being near Henry also did something to her that she couldn't explain. When she was with Idris, it felt the same. This emotional lasso that pulled her towards both. Being with Henry calmed those fierce emotions for Idris, but being with Idris drowned those loving feelings for Henry. Alixandria felt at a complete loss. And the only thing she could think about was to tell Henry the truth.

"But I also cannot picture my life without him in it either." The problem was that Idris wasn't just some normal human man that she had fallen in love with. They were fated and each time she saw Idris it became harder and harder to want to stay away. Being with Henry could drown out those feelings, for a while, but even now, as Alixandria's hands shook, she felt it. Their pull. The need to be with Idris.

"Even if I wanted to forget him and just run away and start over with you I couldn't."

"Do you love him, Alix?"

"I can't help it Henry... he's my soulmate."

"And what if he wasn't?"

Henry's voice had suddenly changed. A calmer and more determined, like the look in his hazel eyes.

"I know what he is Alixandria." He suddenly said.
