《Avalei Cullen (A Twilight Saga Fanfic)》Ch 47: Pre-Battle Conversations
Advertisement
After Christmas a few days ago, I know Bella's been hiding something from us, and I'm not sure if I'd like it or not. The confrontation with the Volturi is in 2 days. Maybe I can finally get some information out of her beforehand.
We were all back at our house, the vampires were all around our areas, the pack members would come and go. Jacob and Seth would be sure to stay near our lands. I had some alone time for once and I found Bella at their little house and wanted to talk to her.
I knocked on the door to Renesmee's bedroom, Bella was packing a few things into 2 back packs.
Once I knocked, Bella looked at me, a little startled. You'd think she would've known I was here with her vamp abilities.
"Avalei, what are you doing here?" She asked, trying to hide what she was doing.
"I wanted to talk to you about something...About this." I said gesturing towards her secrecy and the backpacks.
"What? This is nothing, just a few-" She started but I came inside the room and sighed, "Bella I've been with you through almost everything since you came to Forks. I may not be able to read your mind, but I know when something's bothering you. And this something deals with what's happening tomorrow, and with me and Renesmee. So what is it?"
She too sighed and sat down on Renesmee's bed, I walked over to sit next to her.
"Alice and Jasper left me a message saying to meet up with someone who might have information for us, J Jenks. That's why I went off to do errands that day before Christmas." She started.
"So what you'd find out?" I asked her.
She hesitated at first, but walked over to the backpacks and took things out, I followed her over, "He gave me these documents and passports, one for you, Jacob, Seth, and Renesmee." She let out, holding out papers in front of me.
"But why would it'd only-" I started but faded off once I saw the documents and passports. They were plane tickets, a contract for a house and on each of the passports, our names were different.
Then it hit me. Alice and Jasper paid J Jenks to make these for us because they knew that the others wouldn't survive while the four of us would.
That means a fight will break out, they'll send us four off, and everyone else will die.
"What? Bella-" I started tearing up.
"I know." Bella stopped me. She placed the papers back in the backpacks.
"But Bella, you know I wouldn't leave you guys-"
"Avalei no," she looked at me, and placed a hand on mine, "If Alice has seen this, then we have no other choice but to follow it. No matter how much we don't want to." Why couldn't I have seen this?
"But Bella-" I let down a few tears. She stopped me again.
"If a fight breaks out, you, Jacob, Seth and Renesmee are running away, long before anyone can touch you. I've prepared these packs for you and Renesmee to carry. It has everything you guys will need. We can't risk you all getting caught by the Volturi." She said.
"But Bella, I'm a powerful ally. I can take on those jerks. If I gain Jane and Alec's gifts then-"
"Carlisle said that that might not work. It's too risky. You need to get close enough to them in order to do that."

"What if Aro wants to see us? It'll give me a chance to get close enough." I wiped some of my tears.
"Its still a risk, but, if that happens then maybe our future will be different. But whatever happens, always know that we will always be with you guys. I'm lucky and thankful to have a sister like you." She finished. I looked to the ground then back up at Bella.
After that, she hugged me and I left her to go back to the house.
--
I was getting ready for the little bonfire tonight when I heard a knock on my door. I haven't stopped thinking about what Bella told me earlier and I was now more scared than I already was. I know I wasn't showing it but I was always good at hiding my feelings, aside to when Jasper was around.
I grabbed my jacket as I heard my door begin to open, I was expecting it to be Jacob back from patrol, but when I looked up, it was Edward.
"Hey Ed, what's up?" I asked, putting my jacket on.
He entered my room, "Nothing, I just wanted to tell you something." Before I could question him, he pulled me into a hug.
When we pulled away I looked up to him,"What was that for?" I haven't hugged Edward in awhile....actually, I haven't had a full on proper conversation with Edward since their wedding, and our last conversation didn't really end well either.
"To thank you." He replied, I looked at him confused, "Ever since the beginning, you've always helped everyone, especially Bella and I. Though I haven't really been doing the same for you. And I apologize for that."
I smiled slightly at him, "Ed, it's okay. You're life hasn't really been the easiest. You had a lot on your plate, metaphorically speaking since you don't really eat." I joked but he only cracked a small smirk at the corner of his mouth. But he turned serious again.
"You've had quite a full plate yourself. And I'm sorry for dragging you into my problems." He started, I was about to interrupt him but he continued on.
"It was my fault that James got to you and Bella. It was my fault that I chose to leave Bella and leave you to help her try to move on. It was my fault Laurent and Victoria was after you guys as well. If only I just stayed away-"
"Edward!" I slightly scolded him, "Don't you dare say that you regret falling in love with Bella. You found your happiness, you found love. And all this supernatural drama, it's nothing. Everything happens for a reason. Our past defines who we are today. It may sound strange but I'm glad all those things happened, if none of that did, I wouldn't have become a hybrid, I wouldn't have met Jacob, and I wouldn't have had a more extraordinary life that I have now."
"I was wrong to try to make you stay away from Jacob that day of the wedding, you're right, I'm not in charge of you. But ever since you've came into our family, we've all felt a verge to protect you. That day you got hurt from a newborn, nearly killed us all inside. Then when you ran away a month before the wedding, we couldn't help but worry. None of us could reach you, even Alice couldn't see you in her visions. I was even going to search for Jacob just so that he could help me find you. I know it hasn't been easy for you through it all."

"Ed-" I started but he soon interrupted, "Overall, I haven't been able to properly thank you for everything you've done and will do for us. You really have grown up to be an amazing and powerful being. I'm thankful that Renesmee has such a great aunt and Avalei, I'm glad you're my sister. Whatever happens tomorrow, always know we're with you."
I smiled at him and pulled him into another hug, when we pulled away, I giggled a bit. "You and Bella really are alike sometimes." I then used Renesmee's gift to show him my conversation with Bella I had earlier. It ended with me showing my fear of what would happen if a fight broke out tomorrow.
"Let's just hope tomorrow works out the way we want it to." Edward finished and kissed my forehead.
--
Night fall came and we were all outside. All the vampires were present and some of the wolf pack was near as well but stayed their distance since the vamp stench bothered them.
Jake and Seth were gathering wood around a campfire site we made.
Once they set the wood down, Benjamin and I created fire out of our fingers and threw the flames towards the wood, igniting it.
"That's what I'm talkin' about." Jacob then pulled me to his lap as we sat down on a log, looking at the fire. Benjamin and Tia joined alongside us. Seth went back by Bella and Renesmee's tent.
"A little pre-battle bonfire. Telling war stories." Jacob said, his breath tickling my neck a bit.
He was right, at least we'd get to spend one more night all together.
Tomorrow's the battle. It hasn't hit me until now. I couldn't help but be worried and scared, but angry at the same time.
"Or just standing there like frickin' statues." Jacob commented, snapping me out of my thoughts. We looked at the others, they were literally just standing around like actual statues.
"Name any American battle. I was there." Garrett said joining around the fire on another log.
"Little Bighorn." Jacob named.
"I came this close to biting Custer. But the lndians got him first." Garrett informed.
"Try Oleg's assault on Constantinople. He didn't win that one on his own." Kate stated, sitting on Garrett's lap. Ever since she shocked him, they've been a thing.
"lf you're talking battles, you're talking the Eleven Years' War. No one does a rebellion like the lrish." Liam of the Irish coven included.
"You lost the Eleven Years' War." Garrett stated.
"Aye. But it was one hell of a rebellion." Liam replied making some of us let out a chuckle.
That's when everyone else started to gather around and we actually started having a good bonfire. Though, that's when Vladimir and Stefan joined in too.
"When we ruled, everything came to us. Prey, diplomats, favor seekers. Such was our power. But we never put on white hats and called ourselves saints. We were honest about what we were." Vladimir said.
"We sat still for a very long time. We didn't notice we were beginning to petrify. Perhaps the Volturi did us a favor when they burned our castles." Stefan added. I felt sort of bad for them knowing their history with the Volturi. Though it still doesn't put away the fact that they along with Alistair, still creep me out.
"We've been waiting 1,500 years to return that favor. We have been ready to do battle for ages." They are literally set on fighting the Volturi.
As the others talked, I looked over and focused my attention to my brother and dad who stood a little farther away from us.
"I can't help thinking, all these people are putting themselves in danger because I fell in love with a human." Edward said to dad.
"You found your mate. You deserve to be happy." Dad replied. How many times do we have to tell him that?
"But at what cost?" Edward questioned.
"Everyone here has something to fight for. I certainly do." Dad replied, looking at mom then at me and the rest of the family.
"Carlisle, I've never thanked you. For this extraordinary life." Edward finished. Dad patted him on the shoulder. I slightly smiled at their conversation.
I paid attention back at the bonfire and I decided to get up. I needed time alone for awhile.
I smiled slightly to Jacob and walked off. I kept thinking of the many things that can go wrong tomorrow and how my family and friends could even die tomorrow.
I was a little farther away from the bonfire and I just looked at the ground, kicking a few sticks but I then heard someone behind me. I felt warm arms grab me from behind and hug me.
I already knew who it was as I sunk into him. Embracing his warmth and comfort. I sniffed my runny nose and he noticed as he turned me around.
"Hey, hey. Why are you crying?" Jacob asked while wiping the tears off my face. I hadn't even noticed I was crying until now.
"You're worried about tomorrow aren't you?" He asked, I nodded. I had told Jacob about what Bella told me earlier. He too was a little shocked and skeptical about it. He knows that he wouldn't leave his pack either but if it meant protecting me, he'd do anything.
"Hey, you don't have to. Alice's vision could be wrong. The Volturi will take in all these witnesses and believe us. They'll understand." He said while wiping a few more tears that fell down my face.
I looked at him and turned around, walking away a little.
"Jake, you make it sound like its easy." I turned back around to him, he stood in the same spot, "Why can Alice see what's going to happen and I can't? Ever since my first vision of the Volturi, I've been blind of the future. Jake, we can't be sure what will happen."
"And what if they don't believe us? You heard what my dad and Eleazar said, the Volturi will always find something wrong so they could pick a fight with us. Besides Ness, I'm the one Aro really wants. What if they take me?" I said fastly, crying more.
"I won't let them." He said sternly, immediately stepping close to me and grabbing my hands, looking directly into my eyes.
"Jake, I know you want us to run away if a fight breaks out, but that means leaving everyone else behind to die. You know I can't let that happen." I stated.
"I know, but I promised your family that I'd keep you and Ness safe. Lets just hope a fight doesn't break out. But even if it does, I'm staying true to your family's orders, but remember, I'm with you no matter what happens." He then raised my hand to look at my wrist, grabbing the wolf charm he gave me, "Always"
I wiped my tears away and smiled slightly, remembering that Bella and Edward also said the same thing. But coming from Jacob, it meant much more. I looked at him straight in his eyes, "And Forever." He then kissed my forehead then lifted my chin to kiss my lips, after we pulled apart, he hugged me.
I turned back around and faced the others back at the bonfire, Jacob kept his hold on me.
I noticed that some of the pack members were in their human forms now, also around the fire, "It's amazing how a death wish can bring so many individuals together like this. Especially supernatural beings that we thought didn't even exist. I wonder what it would've been like if our lives were normal"
Jacob chuckled a bit, burying his face into my neck before looking at the others as well, "Normal is overrated. I know I used to think all this was a bunch of crap but being here today, being able to shift into a wolf, being able to fight alongside and against vampires, being with you, I wouldn't change a thing about this life."
I turned back around to face him, "This is one of the things why I love you. You always know what to say," I looked down at our intertwined hands then back at his eyes, "This may be the fact that we're facing a major threat tomorrow but, thank you Jake." He looked at me a little confused, "Besides my family, if it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't be who I am today. Yeah we've had some rough patches along the way but you kept me sane, Jacob." I placed a hand on the side of his face and continued.
"You gave me the chance to learn and experience what it's like to fall in love, the hardships of it, and just what love really is. I was wrong a second ago and you were right when you said it. I wouldn't want our lives to be normal because every little obstacle just makes our lives more of an adventure. I wouldn't change a thing about it. So thank you. I'd thank everyone here a thousand times for just agreeing to help us, but for you, I'd say it a million billion trillion times. Thank you." I gently placed a kiss onto his lips.
"You're welcome, but I should be the one thanking you too. You are my everything so there's no question to how grateful I am to have you. Times have been tough but I'm always thankful that we end up together after it all. You are my life, and like I said, whatever happens tomorrow, I'm with you no matter what." He cupped my cheek and kissed me again, this time a more passionate one along with a kiss on the forehead. Jacob was able to to make me feel so much love even with a situation like tomorrow in our midst. I'm so grateful to have him. I'm grateful to have everyone just here, supporting and helping our family, Renesmee, and me.
Jacob led me back towards the others by the fire, though we stood behind them. No one was talking, just silence except the occasional wind blows and the fire crackling. This could be our last night all together, but it seems like today is one of the most memorable things to leave off of.
I glanced around at my family around the bonfire, I know I've said this before but I'm beyond grateful now that they've been there for me.
I linked my telepathy to connect to each of their minds to tell them something.
Hey. I know I've said it a lot before but because of tomorrow, it's means much more than it has been.
I saw each of them steal glances towards me and I slightly smiled at each of them.
