《Avalei Cullen (A Twilight Saga Fanfic)》Ch 39: Distractions

Another day has passed and Bella is a little better after she's drunken blood. She called her dad earlier today just to update him, and I know it was hard for her to talk to him while she's like this. He wanted to come over check on her but she told him no. I felt her emotions and she mostly felt sadness.
I was outside with Jacob, Seth and Leah when I heard someone's thoughts. Someone I haven't heard of before. It was faint but someone was there.
I looked back to the house, a little confused.
"Av, is something wrong?" Jacob asked me, hugging me from behind. He used my little nickname.
I looked at him, "I thought I heard someone's thoughts."
"Can't you hear everyone's thoughts?" Leah remarked.
"Yeah but this ones different." I replied to her.
"Who's thoughts are they?" Seth asked.
"I don't know. The voice is new to me. But its coming from Bella" I answered.
"But I thought you and Edward couldn't read her mind." Jacob stated.
"That's just it. Its not Bella...I think its the baby." I slightly smiled at them.
"You can hear the baby's thoughts?" Seth asked. I nodded, closing my eyes and leaning more into Jacob. Edward had apologized to Bella for being so bitter about the situation but now that he hears their baby and how much he or her means to Bella, he's learned to love him or her. I still say it's a girl though.
I couldn't decipher the gender of the baby through its thoughts, but the baby's thoughts were pure and happy. He or she loves the sound of Edward and Bella's voices. He or she already loves them. I'm glad Bella and Edward are happy again.
"That's so cool." Seth commented. We just laughed a bit, except Leah of course, snapping me out of my focus on the little family in the house. We all went back to patrolling.
Jake and I went back in the house an hour later. Carlisle called Jacob and I to talk.
"That's the last of it?" Jacob said placing a blood bag on the counter. Bella's been downing a lot of blood since yesterday and that's the last bag.
"Bella could deliver as early as tomorrow. If she's going to have any chance at all, she'll need more blood." Dad stated.
"And you need to feed. You have to be at your strongest for her. We need to go tonight." Mom said to dad.
"Carlisle, you're the enemy now. Sam won't hesitate. You will be slaughtered." Jacob warned them.
"Emmett will come with us." Mom added.
"That won't be enough." Jacob replied.
"What about me?" I suddenly said. Jacob immediately looked down at me sternly.
"What? Av, no. You're not going out there."
"Why not? The pack can't hurt me and I'm the fastest and strongest one here. I'll be okay"
"I still can't risk you going out there." Jacob replied softly but serious.
"We have no choice Jake. If there's anything we can do to save Bella, we have to try." I reassured him. He looked down at me sadly, then looked at my mom and dad.

"You'd risk your lives for her?"
"Of course we would. Bella's a part of our family now." Mom stated.
"Yeah, I can see that. This really is a family. As strong as the one I was born into." Jake looked down at me, caressing my cheek with his thumb, "I know what I have to do." Jacob finished.
As my parents and brother got ready to leave tonight, Jake and I planned it.
"Okay, so I'll ask some of the other pack members to meet me somewhere. Hopefully most of them will come. We'll distract them. I can't tell Leah or Seth about any of this because that'll make it obvious." Jacob stated.
"And I'll make sure to get my parents and Emmett across safely and I'll be sure to come back right after." I assured him. He nodded.
I know this will hurt Jacob do to, you know, betray his own kind and old pack brothers but, if it's to save Bella and the baby, and potentially my whole family, we need to do it.
We both stood up and hugged. When we pulled apart a bit, he held my face and planted a kiss on my lips, "You better come back unharmed."
I nodded, "I will." He then let me go and I went to go meet up with the others.
I'm still a bit uneasy of the thought that Avalei's leaving for awhile so that her family can get some blood in time for Bella. I know she's just going to help them get across safely but with the pack and Sam's orders, I'm still afraid things will go wrong.
But, I have full faith in Avalei. She'll come back in no time.
Nightfall came and I walked up to a ledge that I know where the other pack's members would be on the look out. Seth and Leah followed.
"Jake! They're coming." Seth announced.
"I know."
"We should phase Jacob. We can't protect ourselves like this." Leah suggested.
"They'll see it as a threat." I said to her. I faced the other way, "I wanna talk! It'd be easier if I could hear you too."
We heard some rustling and soon enough, Paul and Jared arrived at the top of the hill, looking down at us. It would be these two to confront us.
"This isn't your territory anymore. How's your new family working out?" Paul provoked. I looked off to the side, trying to be calm about this.
"You done?" I asked sternly, looking back at them. Then Quil and Embry appeared too.
"You coming home Jake?" Quil questioned. They didn't look as angry as Paul and Jared.
"Not until I finish this." I stated.
"What do you mean?" Paul asked, calmly now.
"I want Sam to take back Leah and Seth." I suddenly lied.
"What?" "No way!" Leah and Seth reacted.
I turned back towards them, "Quiet!" I looked over at Paul and the others again, "I want them safe. And I want this over." I started. I suddenly could hear feet running not far from here and I got the warm feeling in my stomach. Avalei and the others are on the run. Hopefully the others don't hear them too soon. I need to keep this going.

"I need Sam to wait until Bella's been separated from the problem." I stated.
"You mean until she's dead." Paul corrected.
"Ease up Paul." Embry warned, they gave each other glares. I looked at Embry and nodded, thanking him for his remark to Paul. At least he still cares.
"Then what?" Paul continued.
"Tell Sam that when the moment comes, I'll be the one to destroy it." I said sternly, half lying.
"Jake!" Seth called. I saw the smiles on Paul and Jared's faces, they were impressed.
"I'm the only one who can. They trust me." I finished. Then we heard more running and finally growls and howls coming from the other wolves. Avalei and the others should be almost there.
The others before us looked around, Paul and Jared getting angry, "You played us!" Paul shouted then went away. Jared followed along with Quil. Embry stayed back a bit to stare at us sadly then went away too.
I faced Seth and Leah and sighed, "That was easier than I thought."
"This was your plan? All that was just an act?" Leah asked sort of mad and confused.
"Yes, I lied about what I said. Now come on, Avalei will be back soon." I said walking down the hill back towards the Cullen's house.
Jacob's plan worked out. He got most of the others distracted enough so I could get my parents and Emmett over to safety. They went on more to get blood. I was even tempted to hunt a little too though, that thought faded as it was a close call when Brady and Collin caught up to us. I made sure to use my telekinesis to throw them back a bit. Then when the others joined in too, I had to jump on a tree and send gusts of winds towards them to hold them back. I didn't want to hurt them but I had to do what I had to do.
But I'm relieved it went well.
I now found myself running back towards my house, making sure to avoid any more enemy wolves and met up with Jacob, Seth and Leah outside.
Once I saw Jacob, I went up to hug him.
"They got through okay?" Jacob asked.
"Yeah, thanks Jake. I also want to thank you for trusting me to go." I hugged him again. I then went to hug Leah and Seth. Yeah, I hug Leah now, we're practically besties...sort of. Still getting used to each other.
I read Jacob's mind about what happened between them and the others, happy yet sad to see the others again, especially Embry.
I then slapped Jacob after I was done reading his mind. He was obviously taken back by my slap.
"What was that for?" He asked, rubbing his arm.
"You are lying about what you said to Paul and the others, right? About you getting rid of the problem?" I asked him seriously, gesturing towards the house.
He looked back at Leah and Seth then back to me, "I had to say something to keep them distracted longer." He admitted, I narrowed my eyes at him but just ignored it then.
Jake and I then went inside the house to find Bella, Rosalie, Alice and Edward in the living room.
"Can't we come up with something just a little more classic?" I heard Rosalie say.
Edward came up to us, I let go of Jacob's hand and went to hug Edward.
"I'm glad you're okay." He said as we pulled away, I went back over to Jacob.
"Thank you." Edward said to him and he nodded.
We made our way over to Bella who was sitting in a soft seat, surrounded by Rosalie and Alice, they helped her stand up once she saw us.
"Hey, are you guys okay?" Bella asked us.
"Yeah, it's not like I'm the one carrying a demon." Jacob commented. I patted his arm, rolling my eyes.
"This is pretty important Bella. Why don't you tell Jacob and Avalei what you've decided." Rosalie stated.
"What now?" I asked.
"Rose is trying to talk Bella out of her baby names." Edward added amused.
"She hates them." Bella included.
"Well then we're on your side no matter what you picked." I said for Jacob and I.
"They're not that bad. If its a boy, EJ. Edward Jacob." Bella started. I looked up to Jacob, a slight smile appeared on his face.
"Okay fine, that one's not awful. Why don't you tell them the girl's name?" Rosalie told her.
Bella looked at us, "I was playing around with our moms' names. Renee and Esme. And I was thinking...Renesmee." Bella finished.
"Re-Renesmee?" Jacob stuttered. Edward laughed a bit. I saw Jacob's face be weirded out, which made me giggle.
"Too weird?" Bella questioned.
"Uhmmm" Jacob said but I interrupted, knowing he'd say what's on his mind.
"No, that's not too weird. It's beautiful. And it's unique, which certainly fits the situation." I stated, looking back up at Jacob and soothing his chest.
"I like Renesmee." Edward added.
Rosalie grabbed the cup of blood for Bella, "He likes it." Bella said to her making Rosalie roll her eyes.
She handed the cup but it slipped through Bella's grasp and when she tried to reach it, her back gave out and a sickening crunch sounds erupted.
It felt like it was all in slow motion. The blood spilled, Bella's back cracked and we all reached out to her, Edward catching her head in time. Bella screamed in pain.

Magician's Pact
A young boy with a special key finds himself caught up with an old wizard, an ancient prohpecy, and a possibly conspercy. The second is that he isn't a wizard. He is a Magician which complicates things. The third is that there might be a chance that the whole 'problem' might be comming from his end. Personally he never understood (or interacted with) the 'secret' magical world, but that becomes a problem when the magical world apparently has what his role is supposed to be according to their ancient book... and they are not to happy about him not matching their book. Still it shouldn't be to hard right? All he has to do is go to a school, learn some wizard magic, make sure nobody takes his key... also avoid dying. The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
