《Safe at Last》Getting Better.

Aurora

Weeks had passed and I was back on track at school. Joycelynn and Travis made sure that I was comfortable. My siblings didn't ask any further about what happened and neither did James. I'm almost fully healed and Joycelynn has been making sure that I'm staying on top of my medication. She took me to the hospital and they were very curious as to what happened to me. At this point, she wouldn't tell me what was said but all I know is that I'm staying with Joycelynn.

I'm so grateful and blessed to be able to have kind people in my life that actually care about my well-being. It hurts when I think about my mother but I feel it's best that we don't go over there anymore. We don't need anything from that house and Joycelynn has been providing us with everything we need. I stopped working at Sally's Diner and I don't have any cash flow coming in as of right now but once I'm better, I'll get another job. Get back on your feet. Get back on your feet. Get back on your feet. Get back on your feet.

Is the motto that I have for life. It's the motto that my life lived by. He would always tell me "when life gets hard, you go harder." I would tell myself that whenever things got rough but some situations are harder than the last. Sitting on the couch watching tv, I suddenly saw a commercial of a business hiring. Grabbing my phone, I went to the Indeed app, and started applying to random jobs in the area.

"I figured I'd find you out here." Sydney said as she walked into the living room. Flopping down on the couch, she laid her head on my shoulder.

"You found me. Wassup?" I laid my head on top of hers as well.

"I've been thinking... once you go off to college, what'll happen to us?" My heart skipped a beat once she expressed her question. I stayed quiet for a bit, trying to figure out what to say. Also trying to figure out how to say it. I don't want to hurt her but I am going off to college soon.

Sitting up, I looked at her in the eyes. "There's no surprise that I'll be going to college. It's only September but I will have to leave for school. I don't know what'll happen but I'll see if you and the guys can stay here. Just until I have my own place set up for you all to come live with me."

Sydney didn't even look at me with hope. All she could do is nod her head as she turned towards the television.

"Aurora, can you come here for a minute?" The soft voice of Joycelynn could be heard coming from the kitchen. I could also hear the water running and the sound of pots being moved around. I replied back as I stood up from the couch and walked in her direction.

"How are you feeling love?" She questioned as she turned to look at me.

"I'm feeling better. The medication they give me works a lot especially at night. My wounds have healed and I have minor bruising." She nodded as she went back to washing the dishes.

"That's good to hear. I called the doctor and they said that they need you to come in for a routine check up. Just to make sure everything has healed properly inside and out."

"Ok, I'll call and make an appointment today." I announced as I began to head for the exit until she continued the conversation.

"I have one more thing to say. A friend of mine works at this corporate office and said that they're hiring." My interest became peaked. This is the first job that I've heard hiring since what happened.

"What's it called?" She stopped washing dishes and wiped her hands off with paper towel. Turning to me, she threw it in the trash.

"Davis Enterprise." It felt like a click went off in my head and I suddenly remembered something. That reminds me of the one customer from Sally's Diner. What was her name? Dessy? Something like that. I just can't put my finger on it but I know she said that she works there. I remember her attire; Business like.

"Can I ask you something?" I felt a little bit nervous about asking her this question but time is ticking.

"Of course honey. Wassup?"

"What's going to happen to my siblings when I leave for college?" She took a deep breath and came around the counter to be face to face with me.

"They can stay here with us. Maybe we can try to find family members that they'll be more comfortable with if they don't want to remain here."

I shook my head and looked at the ground. "We don't talk to the rest of our family. I haven't even seen them since my dad died."

"They can stay here baby. I'll take care of them."

I nodded my head as I said ok, and walked out of the kitchen. Looking over at Sydney, her caramel complexion glistened as the sun made its way through the windows. Her chocolate eyes were fixed on the tv, and I could tell her attention was completely focused on whatever she's watching. I'm not going to lie, I feel like shit for not being able to give her a real answer about what's going to happen to them.

Maybe I can get this job at Davis Enterprise and send money to Joycelynn just so my siblings won't have to pay for anything while I'm gone. Grabbing out my phone, I sat back down on the couch as I typed in Davis Enterprise. To my surprise, I couldn't believe who I saw in the first picture that popped up.
