Chapter 37

Caine's POV

When Aurora broke the news of her pregnancy, I went through all kinds of emotions, and a million thoughts ran through my mind. I was happy for sure, but I was terrified. I knew that the news of her pregnancy was going to spread like wildfire, rogues and werewolves with evil intentions were going to be trying me and Thaddeus. We talked and agreed to keep the news to a trusted few.

I did an emergency meeting with my warriors and security team. The security around the pack was high, but I didn't want to risk it. Even if Ally and our enemies were dead, we didn't know if there was someone out there that wanted to take revenge for her. Or Lena's father how can we forget. They congratulated me and patted my back as they were leaving the meeting. Elijah is the last one. He still had a sad expression on his face, and he wasn't being his funny self. He patted my back and smiled halfway before turning to leave.

"Elijah" I call out for him and he turns around without saying a word. "You good brother?" I ask.

"All is well brother" he replies and leaves without saying anything else. His energy seemed a bit off, but I didn't pay any mind to it.

My phone starts to ring inside my pock it and I take it out. It was Cara.

"Hello, sis" I greet.

"Caine, we got a problem," she said nonchalantly.

"What it is?" I had the feeling that I was not going to like whatever she had to say.

"When I went with my partner to pick up Ally's body...It was gone."

I stayed silent for a bit. "What do you mean her body was gone?" I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration.

Cara let out a sigh. "I don't know bro, we got there as soon as you gave us the call but she wasn't there, there was blood where her body was at, and Jim's body was there too, but no signs of her body."

"What the hell is going on?" I wondered out loud. This had to be some kind of sick joke or someone was on to us.

"If it was picked up by police it would have been on the news already and so far I haven't heard anything or seen anything on the media or from my district. I am thinking this might have been someone else. I don't think it's anyone related to Victor since we already arrested everyone that was involved in the trafficking ring"

Suddenly I remembered Elijah. If my intuition was correct, he might have something to do with this. I know that he didn't take it too well when he found out that Ally was dead. I made a mental note to investigate him on my own.

"What is it, Caine?' Cara shakes me from my thoughts.

"Looks like there will be some digging going around on my side. Oh, sis, I have more news to tell you" I wanted to change the subject. Cara and I weren't as close as we used to be. Let's say that she wasn't a fan of my lifestyle back in the day and she didn't agree with most of the things that I was doing as Alpha. We have been coming around each other lately and I knew that the news of Aurora will make her happy.

"Aurora is pregnant, you are going to be an aunt."

"SHE IS!! OH CAINE!!" She was shouting happily and I had to move the phone away from my already noise-sensitive ear. "When did you find out, how far along is she?"

"A few hours ago, and she is just a few weeks in, but hey, you should come to visit one of these days., Aurora would love to see you, and I am still waiting to kick your ass on COD again."

"You sure about that? Last time I won five matches straight while you cried on the corner. But for sure, I will. Oh also! before I forget, make sure you take the territory papers to our law team so that they can finalize whatever they need to finalize and we can put an end to this territory thing altogether. Oh and Caine..."

"Yea?"

"You are going to be a great father, I am proud of you little bro. You cleaned up your act after so many years of-"

"Okay Okay, I get it..." I reply and Cara laughs. It made me happy to hear those words coming from her. I knew that growing up wasn't the easiest but, I have been working on myself and here I am now.

We said our farewells and I ended the call. There was a lot that needed to be done, but for now, I needed some rest and I wanted nothing but to be next to my mate.

As morning rose, I wasted no time. Aurora was already up and so was Thaddeus as they both sat together enjoying their morning tea out on the back porch. "Hey, babe" she greets as I bend down and give her a quick kiss on the lips. She was glowing as the morning sun hit her beautiful tan skin. It almost looked like she was really shining. I nuzzled my face in her neck and she moaned softly before I bend down lower and kiss her swollen belly.

"Princess, I'm going to have a few friends of my law team coming over in a bit so that we can arrange your territory papers. We should get this done as soon as we can just in case any enemies try to sabotage anything." Aurora nods as she takes a sip of tea.

"Oh good, I want to get that done as soon as we can. I Just realized that our pack territories are close to each other. It says so on the maps."

"Yea, I wasn't a fan of your fathers and my father did warn me to stay away to avoid any issues so we never really looked that way."

Aurora let out a sigh as she takes a sip of her tea. "It's understandable."

After a few hours of waiting, I get the call from my men that the law team was here. I welcome them in and lead them to my office. Like always, I like to get to business first. Laurel brought Aurora over to the study and there I introduced her to Mark and Ramon. They were two of my oldest friends. Mark was a werewolf and Ramon was a human that knew of our existence. Thaddeus joined us in our meeting as well.

"How long until this takes effect?" Aurora asks as she rubs her stomach. She had been eating a lot and I was happy that she was. I wanted her to be healthy for herself and our pups.

Ramon looked over the papers one more time before putting them down. "I should say about a week, maybe two if we come across anything. But everything looks good. I had worked with Jim before and I have access to most of his accounts. Transferring all of this into your name might not be the easiest of tasks but I will do my best to get it done."

"Is this illegal?"

The boys look at each other and then at me and Thaddeus. I nod giving them permission to speak. Aurora looks at me suspiciously and I smile.

"Let's just say that we have found loopholes in this country and we know the ins and outs of it and we like to make it easier for your kind to preserve the lands. The lands are safer with the werewolf communities than they are in the hands of humans who only want to exploit the resources of the lands." Ramon said and I knew that was coming from the bottom of his heart. He loved nature and he hated humans for how they have messed up earth and the natural resources that our lands have to offer. Anything that had to do with saving lands and animals, he was all in for it.

Aurora nodded in agreement. "Well you guys are the experts, and Caine trusts you guys so, go ahead with the plan and let us know when it's done. Now if you guys excuse me, these pups want their momma to take a little nap. Thank you for your time gentlemen." Aurora excused herself but not before giving me and Thaddeus a quick kiss on the cheek.

Mark and Ramon stayed an hour as well catch up with life and business talks. They said their goodbyes leaving me and Thaddeus in my office.

"Her body was gone" I broke the news to Thaddeus and he gave me a look.

"Ally's? what about the other guy...Jim?"

"His body was still there, but hers wasn't...I am starting to think that it might have been Elijah."

Thaddeus handed me a glass of bourbon and I took it, Taking a small sip. "It could have been, he was acting weird when he heard the news. Have you had anyone follow him?" I shook my head.

"I wanted to see if you were down for some investigation?"'

"Oh, are you inviting me on some good old bonding time there brother?

"Don't get too cocky, I still don't like you as much." I joked. "How do you feel, becoming a father and all," I asked Thaddeus as I finished my drink.

Thaddeus was quiet for a bit as he was looking at his still full glass. A soft smile appeared on his face. "I couldn't believe it at first, I am scared more than anything. I want our pups to grow in a good home, away from enemies, but I know that is not possible in our position of power. But most of all, I am happy."

Thaddeus was smiling from ear to ear, and I accompanied in that feeling. We were going to be fathers but first, we had to make sure that all threats were eliminated before our pups are born.

"You ready brother?" I ask and Thaddeus puts his glass on the table. He nods as he gets up. We walk around the pack grounds together. It was normal for me to do this every day. I would walk around and check on the elders and people in need. I listened to complaints and made sure that my people were well taken care of, I would mindlink a few workers along the way and would direct them to fix whatever needed fixing as I would walk around the grounds.

We spot Elijah along the way and we fall back a bit. Thaddeus and I remained silent. We had done our fair share of spy work before so we didn't need to communicate anything we understood the assignment.

It seemed like Elijah was keeping to himself as he went on about his day. Thaddeus conversed with a group of the wolf elders as they commented on his accent. I stood to watch cautiously of Elijah until he disappeared towards the backwoods. I shot a glance at him and he nodded as he still kept the conversation going. I headed out first as Thaddeus stood behind. I followed Elijah at a distance, keeping my scent hidden as I tracked behind him like a predator.

I noticed that he had flowers in his hands. Where was he going? I stayed a few yards back as he was walking towards Mount Klai. It was a small mountain that overlooked towards the east. It was also the only place that you could catch the most beautiful sunrise.

Elijah stops for a second and I see that he puts the flowers on the ground, but I couldn't see from where I was at. I move around a bit onto higher ground and see him staying before a freshly dug grave. Elijah bends down and fixes the flowers. He lowers his head into his hands, I hear him sobbing quietly as he mutters a few words, I couldn't hear what he was saying but I figure that I should go back and give him his privacy.

So it was Elijah who picked up Ally's body and he gave her a proper burial. I wondered what was their relationships but I figured that it was not my place to ask or meddle in. Elijah was a good man with a good heart and from his energy I could tell that he was hurt. It also made me wonder if he had taken a role in anything that Ally was doing but I couldn't point him into anything.

While I was in the UK with Aurora and Thaddeus, he has stayed behind and handled the pack while I was away. He kept things running smoothly and took care of anyone that needed help. Right now, what I saw was a broken man that needed time and space.

Thaddeus mindlinks me and I answer. "I will be heading back"

"Did you find where he was going?"

I swallowed before answering through the mindlink. "Uhm, yea...he was putting flowers on Ally's grave, her scent was all over the place."

"Shit, well now we know it wasn't the cops or another of her evil friends" Thaddeus replied before the mindlink cuts off.

Making my way back I notice Aurora was walking around with Laurel. Thaddeus was close behind her. The pack members were coming up to her greeting her and Laurel. Some bowed to her and others waved as if she was a celebrity. I couldn't help but smile when she looks at me and sees me.

Aurora rushes over to me and embraces me in a hug. "You sure are extra happy today," I say to her and she smiles.

"Because I am extra happy today."

"Luna" we hear a child's voice behind us and we turn to find a small boy holding on to two yellow tulip flowers. He gives them to Aurora before running back to hide behind his moms.

"He wanted to give them to too when he saw you, he grew them himself!" his mom shared with us with a wide smile on her face.

"Thank you so much" Aurora thanks him as he bends down and opens her arms inviting the little boy to give her a hug. He runs to her and embraces her. The scene in front of us made me feel warm inside.

It made me wonder how our pups were going to be. I couldn't wait to see them in our arms, to love them and give them the best life they can ever have. To watch them grow into hard-working and caring pups. I also couldn't wait to see Aurora holding them, she was going to be the most beautiful and caring mom. I was proud of her and I had to keep my thoughts down. I guess she got a peek of it because she looked up at me and there was a hint of mischievousness in her eyes.

She put the boy down and watches as he runs back to his mother with a wide grin on his face.

The afternoon was very lively in the pack. Everyone was in such a great mood that we decided to throw a little party. I had a few of the guys go down for meats and drinks. By night the party was in full swing. Young pups running around playing, elders hanging out on their porches talking about the latest news and the crops. The young wolves are on their phones and taking photos and having a good time. I had a few of my men go to Auroras pack and pick them up so that they can join us tonight. A few of them came, including the family that we talked to the day that Aurora burned down her home.

Gabriella surprised Aurora and they embrace in a hug. Her parents, Mara and Hank came too and they all embraced Aurora. "Alpha Aurora, Alpha Caine, thank you for having us" They bow down respectfully. We introduce them to a few of the members before they leave on their own to grab stuff to eat and drink as they engage in conversations with my pack members.

Thaddeus and Aurora are by my side as all three of us watch over everyone at the party.

"I think this will be good for them, hanging out outside their pack grounds, making friends. This is what they need."

Thaddeus and I agreed. From the corner of my eye, I see Aurora's mom chatting with Laurel and a few other elders and I saw how happy she looked.

The vibe of the party was lively until a loud growl was heard. Everyone stops what they are doing and they all look at each other. I feel Aurora's hand on my arm and I give a look to Thaddeus.

I look ahead and see a figure coming out from the shadows of the wood. It was Elijah.

Gasps and whispers are heard around the party as they saw his state. Elijah looked like he had been drinking and crying. I could smell the booze from where we stood. I can imagine how much he had to drink since we have a very high tolerance to alcohol. He regained his composure and stood straight, his eyes looking at me and Aurora.

"You two and your Luna are not people of Honor!" Elijah shouts with his arms open. A few of the men that were around him take a step back and cover their mates and children from Elijah.

He begins to walk over to where we were standing and everyone starts to move away from his path. Thaddeus and I stood our ground but we had pushed Aurora behind us. Whether he was drunk or not, I was not playing with her safety. I mind linked Thaddeus and told him to grab her and run if things got out of hand.

"Elijah, you are drunk, go home and go to bed," I said in a cool tone hoping that he would come to his senses. Elijah laughs as he turns around and addresses the crowd that was now a few feet away from him.

He points a finger at me. "You don't get to fucking tell me what to do. How is it- HOW!" he shouts. "How is it that your beta is dead! and you guys are partying!" He shouts louder as tears roll down his eyes.

"Go home Elijah, I will not ask again."

"Or what? you are going to kill me?"

"You know what Ally had done. You know she was responsible for the attacks on this pack, for the deaths of two pups and a few of our warriors. She helped in the Lycan attacks in England! How did you expect me to have handled things! We were too kind to her in the way that we killed her because she deserved that much worst!" I finished the sentence in a loud growl making everyone bow their heads.

Elijah stood there frozen, but with cold eyes.

"Go home because I will not tolerate any more disrespect towards myself, my Luna."

"Fuck you!" Elijah shouts as he takes his shirt off. "Fight me!" he lets out a feral growl. It seemed like his drunkness had worn off and it must have been all thanks to his wolf. My wolf and Lycan would snap me out of whatever haze I would be in, especially when adrenaline kicks in.

I didn't want to fight him but I was going to have to. At this point if I didn't do anything it was going to make me seem like this type of behavior was tolerated. Even if he was drunk. I unbutton my shirt and Aurora grabs it. I loosen my belt and give it to her before jumping off and landing in front of him.

"Well, You wanted to fight right? Alright then, let's go."
