Knock knock knock

I groaned at the noise that interrupted my sleep.

Knock knock knock

Cursing under my breath I buried my head underneath my pillow and wrapped the comforter tightly around my body.

Knock knock knock

It did little to muffle the sound. Couldn't this person understand that I was not going to come to the door? Reaching out my hand to wake up Caleb to answer it my hand reached nothingness beside me and I quickly sat up in confusion.

When did he leave? What time was it?

Training my head to my phone that laid on the bed side table I read the time.

2:33 P.M.

Holy shit! Did I really sleep in this late? Caleb really knocked me out from last night I thought grinning to myself as I recollected the events that perspired last night.

A sudden sense of approval washed over me and I immediately recognized the feeling as Caleb's. It was odd that I could now easily distinguish my own feelings from his. Which meant that he knew that I was reminiscing last night in my head and he was enjoying every second of my lustful thoughts.

Rolling my eyes at the realization that Caleb was getting off on my suggestive thoughts I tried to change the subject. I didn't have a chance to, however, before another knock on the door had me clutching the sheets to my chest.

Looking below the sheets I was completely naked. I hadn't put any clothes on and I was beginning to panic when the door handle of the bedroom began to jiggle. My heart pounded against my rib cage as I waited hysterically trying to figure out what to do next.

Should I sat in bed and cover up? Should I run to the closet before they open the door? Do I answer the door regardless of how embarrassing I looked and face the person that was on the other side?

As the questions flew around my head it dawned on me like a light bulb turning on. There was only four people that had excess to this room... Caleb, myself, Cora his mother and Nora. I audible gulped as Caleb's daunting words reminded me of his suspicions of his sister. It didn't help that she was female either.

"Shit," I hissed flying to my feet and racing to the walk in closet. Throwing the door closed behind me the moment I entered I rolled out of the sheets like a cinnamon roll. The sheet had evidently got closed in the door in my wild and uncoordinated route to the closet. I heard the material rip and I flinched at the noise, I'd buy him a new set, right now I just needed to change... quickly.

The bedroom door opened and in a frantic attempt at covering up déjà vu hit me like a ton of bricks. I was just in this same predicament yesterday but the difference was now the robe was missing since I had left it in the bathroom last night.

Scoping out the closet in desperation I pulled one of Caleb's T-shirts' of a hanger and threw it on in one swift motion. It wasn't much but it covered everything and that's all I cared about.

The door to the closet pulled open and as I tried to fix up my hair their voice broke the awkward silence.

"I'm beginning to think you enjoy hiding in the closet. Is there something you want to tell me?" He leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed. His muscles were defined and dreamy as he offered me a cheeky smirk, he was exuding confidence and mischief, but there was a playful glint in his eyes as he scanned over my bare legs.

"Haha very funny I'm as straight as board." I rolled my eyes tugging at the bottom of my shirt wishing it covered just a little more. "We're you messing with me knocking and jiggling the door handle?"

He smirked. "Maybe."

Caleb picked up the sheets that were laying at his feet and examined the giant hole I had left behind. It looked like the shark from jaws bit a chuck of the fabric.

"I-I'll buy you a new one." I blurted out panicked when he didn't say something about it right away.

Raising an eyebrow at the disaster I left of his sheets he shook his head. "Though I'm a little lost and a bit concerned as to how this happened you don't have to buy new ones. We have extras lying around somewhere."

There was a pause between us as Caleb bunched up the covers in his arms. I teetered hell to toe as I tried to calm my embarrassment while I moved my eyes over his every muscle. I couldn't believe that hours ago he was as close as he could possibly be with me.

"So... what are your plans for the day?" I asked breaking the silent pause. Caleb sighed turning away from me and heading over to our bed. I followed close behind as I rolled the hem of his shirt between my fingers.

"As much as I would like to spend the whole day with you I can't. The bounty hunters are being held in our cells. Loz, Alex and myself have been interrogating them."

As I watched Caleb drop the covers on the bed and started making it I walked to the other side to help. "Have you found anything new?"

"No, unfortunately. They haven't been talking much, they will though eventually." He told me fixing the pillows.

As I tucked the covers under the mattress I asked, "What do you do to make them talk?" My voice was low and hesitant subliminal not wanting to know what the answer would be. I could only imagine what Caleb could do to make a person obey him. I shuddered at the cold hearted thought.

His eyes flickered up to mine as he debated on answering. I could tell he was struggling to decide if he wanted to spoil my innocent mind with horrid pictures of the methods he used to make someone talk, I helped him by deciding for him.

"Forget I asked, I don't think I want to know." Muttering my words Caleb moved briskly around the bed until he was inches in front of me.

He looked down at me, timidness clear on his face as if my comment stung his heart. "I don't want you to think of me like that. Like a monster."

I reached my hand to cup his cheek making him look down at me. Of course I didn't look at him like a monster, I use to, but now all I could see was a loving, caring man. The little tingles that dazzled my palm were felt against his cheek as he leaned into my touch.

"I don't see you as a monster." I assure him with a small smile. He purses his lips not believing my words. I rose myself on my tippy toes to reach his lips pecking him gently before pulling away to look into those blue eyes. "You are my mate."

He smiles in return letting himself accept my words for what they were, the truth. Dropping my hand away from his face he grabbed it before I can rest it at my side.

He rubbed small circles on the back of my hand soothingly. "You screamed last night. What was that for?"

The words stunned me, I have forgotten all about the nightmare. I had no idea I had vocally screamed I thought it was left to the confines of my dream. I was wrong as I looked over Caleb's face that showed nothing else but concern. Bitting my lip I attempted to piece together my fragmented memory of my dreams and the horrid images they consisted of.

They were blurry but they still held such fear, sadness, and gore. I was left more perplexed from what I could make out than the details I couldn't.

"It was a bad dream. A pretty vivid dream too, it felt like I was living in that exact moment." I admitted scrunching my eyebrows in disgust at the blood that I saw. Shaking my head from the thoughts and forcing myself to look over the dream as it was nothing, I clutched his hand. "I must have screamed in my dreams and I just carried that over into my wakening self."

Caleb scanned over my face searching for anything that seemed off to him, as if I were purposely leaving out information. I was not, it was the truth I didn't know what I saw or why I screamed in my waking reality. The best answer to had was that it just happened.

Caleb moved his mouth to say something just as his eyes foggy over and someone else pulled his attention away from me. A few seconds passed before he looked back down at me with a sad smile.

"I have to go. Loz may have gotten more information out of one of the bounty hunters." He kissed the top of my head as he pulled my snug against his body. "Stay out of trouble and make sure you eat. I'll let my mother know you haven't yet and to have a plate ready for you." With one last peck on my lips he turned away leaving the room.

Left to the confines of our room it all sudden felt darker and larger without him in it. Picking up the ripped sheet off the ground I thought it'd be best to throw it away in one of the trash cans down stairs.

Leaving my bedroom I made my way down stairs and into the kitchen.

"Jesus Christ! Who had sex in the kitchen?" I peered over the bundled sheet to see Taylor scrunching up her noise as I walked into the kitchen. "Evie, no you didn't." She muttered with a mischievous smile.

Gulping I lifted the lid of the trash can, discarding the ripped sex sheets in the trash. My face was rosy red as I looked at Taylor who was sat waiting for an explanation. One that I wasn't about to give her either.

"When I ran to get the man last night because you were screaming I didn't think having sex was going to be his solution." She started to laugh even though she tried to fight it off. "But I'm guessing that solved the problem." She snickered.

Rolling my eyes I opened my mouth to reply but Cora walked in with a steaming plate of food. Her ear to ear smile lit up the room the moment she stepped foot into the kitchen.

"The girl finally made it out of bed I see." Taking the plate from her I thanked her as she sniffed the air around me. She froze before her smile widened even more, something I didn't think was even possible. "I see that Caleb and you have gotten... closer." She winked.

Feeling the embarrassment settling in I sat down at the kitchen table beside Taylor.

Cora chuckled at my awkwardness of the subject, after all this was Caleb's mother, and she just smelled our late night activities. I wanted so badly for the floor to open up beneath me and swallow me whole.

"Relax my child, for us werewolves this is normal. I'm thrilled to see you two finally bonding like mates." Cora gave me a quick nod as she passed by me to leave. "Next step is pups."

I had just taken a bite of food and failed at swallowing it correctly at her comment. I chocked for a moment before being able to calm myself down enough to swallow my food, by then Cora was gone.

"Pups?" I crocked as I looked at Taylor. She was beyond amused.

"Yes, pups. That's what we call our young. Usually alpha mates mark, have sex and have children right away, honestly I'm shocked Caleb hadn't pushed you sooner." She sipped on her glass of water. "He's not a typical alpha tough so I don't know why I'm so shocked."

Swallowing another bite I question this information as this was the first time that Taylor has gone back on her word. I remember very vividly how she yelled and hated Caleb because he reminded her of how alphas were.

"I thought you said he was like every other alpha." I commented taking another bite.

"I did say that but coming here and actually watching and listening to how he carries himself and goes about things, it's not... normal."

"And what is normal for an alpha? Since I'm new to all this."

She scoffed at my question leaning into her chair annoyed as she recalled her previous encounters. "Well for starters, Caleb would have killed me on the spot when he first saw me, regardless if I was your best friend or not. Most if not all alphas do not tolerate rouge wolves, they see us as dangerous and unpredictable. Second," She crossed her arms and closed her eyes as if the next thing she said needed all of her strength and composure. "He listens to what everyone has to say. Yes, what he says goes no matter what, but he is at least willing to listen to everyone. He doesn't instantly try and kill someone just because they disagree or challenge him. It's a huge change from the pack I use to be apart of."

It sounded so animalistic and barbaric how other alphas went about things. I was beginning to understand why Caleb didn't want the title and position until his father passed. He wasn't a cruel man to begin with and the fact that he had to put on a façade in front of his pack must be exhausting. I wondered how often he wished not to raise his voice, or get physical with his pack members, I think back to the club when he chocked Alex.

"All alphas are that temperamental?" I questioned thinking again to when I met Daniel back at Midnight Shadow. He was so young yet so demanding and entitled something that Caleb was not in the slightest.

"I'm afraid so. Most are entitled assholes, but you didn't hear that from me." She groaned finishing up her glass of water and place this dirty glass in the dishwasher. "Change of topic, what are we doing today?"

Her question made me contemplate what I'd busy myself with, my goal was to dive back into the many old books we took from Midnight Shadow. I had hope still that I would somehow figure out what I was capable of, so far I was no closer to figuring out what a banshee really was or did. Sorcha never reappeared after the archives and Kayleigh was far from happy of the idea of me. I never quite understood why but that was the least of my worries at the moment.

"Honestly, I was going to be in the library looking over-"

"No, no, no we are getting you out of this house. I'm not letting your anxiety of everything keep you in this place. I know high and mighty might want you to stay here like a little princesses in a tower but I-"

Taylor was abruptly cut off as my phone rang on the table. Aurora's name popped up on my phone, a picture of her and Jozy hugging illuminate my screen and I smiled at the image. It sucked being so far away from her but I knew that it was for the best.

I picked up my phone to answer her. "Hey, everything alright?" I asked finding her phone call out of place, Aurora was more of a texter than a caller but none the less it wasn't totally out of the ordinary.

"Yea," She answered in a high pitch tone that made a voice in my head scream false. "Jozy misses you and I was wondering if you'd be able to stop by sometime." There was an uneasiness to her tone and I looked to Taylor to see if she could hear it too. She did, as she rounded the counter and came to stand next to me to better hear the phone call.

"Rora, are you sure that everything is okay, you don't-"

Aurora cut me off and her next set of sentences sent my heart pounding against my chest. "So you'll be here today? Around eight? Sounds great!"

My eyes darted to Taylor's and I could see the apprehension in the lines that her lips made at the sound of Aurora's voice. I didn't know what to say but I knew that anything but agreeing to Aurora would sound suspicious, someone was there with her and I was worried that if I didn't play along that she would be hurt.

Gulping down a ball of nerves I closed my eyes. "I'm sorry Rora, for whoever is there I'll be there soon. Stay alive. I love you."

"I love you too." She whispered back and I didn't miss the little crack in her voice as she tried to suppress the urge to cry. Reluctantly ending the call I slowly placed the phone down on the table and opened my eyes to see Taylor's eyes fogged over.

"I don't know what to do Taylor." My words barely came out in a coherent sentence as tears began to brim the edges of my eyes. This was all my fault. I should have asked Caleb to move my sister here, though I knew already that Aurora would have objected. If I had asked Caleb might have been able to have someone watch over their house.

Nausea was beginning to settle into the pit of my stomach and was now disturbing the little food that I had eaten. I already had my thoughts accumulating with every breath I took as I thought about who had made her call me. The first that came to mind was Roy and I instantly grew paler.

The ding of my phone went off and I looked at the screen, a text message appeared

Aurora: Come alone

Loosing all my appetite I tossed the left over food in the trash before loading the dish in the washer. I rested my palms on the counter trying in desperation not to have a panic attack. I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I didn't know what would cost my life or hers. For all I knew they killed her the moment she hung up. My stomach coiled at the gross image.

"What do you plan to do?"

I sighed lifting my head up to look at Taylor. She could read my answer on my face as I pursed my lips together.

"Absolutely not! I won't let you, you'll end up dead."
