《Deception (Book #1) ✅》~47: Stay Here~

"Is this really necessary? I feel like I'm one wrong step away from flashing someone." I cringed pulling at the bottom of the little red dress I wore. The short length left my olive legs exposed and my breast nearly pouring over the cup of the dress. I felt awkward in the little garment but I knew I had to wear it if I wanted this plan to work.
Play the part just for tonight, I could hear Caleb's plea in the back of my head from earlier.
"Yes, it's very necessary." Taylor zipped the side of her little black dress as it followed her every curve. She flipped her long blonde hair behind her shoulder and offered the most confident smile. "You look amazing. You have a killer body anyways. So what if you have a nip slip."
"Taylor!" I yelled covering my chest with my hands. "Besides, you have to say that. You're my best friend."
Taylor tied her hair up in a tight ponytail and leaned against her vanity in the bathroom as she applied her Scarlett lip stick. "If you don't believe me just walk in front of Caleb now, I dare you." She smirked at she lined her perfectly plump lips.
I bounced my knee up and down as I sat on Taylor's bed. Her room, or should I say Lawerence's room, was a deep royal blue giving off a rich appeal to it. His walls were royal blue, the embellishments in the walls were coated in silver and his massive bed was nearly as blue as the walls. The room was a bit tinier than Caleb's but it wasn't by much they still had a connected bathroom and walk-in closet.
"Absolutely fucking not!" Taylor's sudden yelled making me jump to my feet startled by the sudden outburst. She was waving her hands in front of her as she came towards the bed. "Get! Go! Off the bed now!"
Blinking still stunned in the moment I realized what she was yelling at. Bastet had managed to weasel her way into the room and made herself at home on the end of the bed.
"Off now." Taylor scolded pointing a claw at my cat. I had to hide my snicker with my hand as Bastet swatted Taylor's finger in annoyance. I'll never understand how one feline can have so much attitude. "You think this is a game?" Taylor growled which in return her a hiss from Bastet. "That's it!"
Taylor walked to the bathroom and came back quickly with a cup of water. "Don't say I didn't warn you." She tossed the contents of the cup on Bastet who ran to the head of her bed and plopped on her pillow. "You bitch!"
By this point I was unable to control my laughter as Taylor ran to the head of the bed to grab her. Noticing my laughter finally she shot me a menacing growl that shut me up in an instant. As if sensing danger the bedroom door bursted open to reveal Caleb with his teeth elongated and his eyes pitch black.
The room suddenly grew ten degrees colder and eight shades darker.
"Relax," Taylor said shrinking back behind me, she was using me as a shield and from the murderous look on Caleb's face I knew that he was only here because he over heard us. Again, why was he eavesdropping?
Caleb grabbed my upper arm pulling me towards him and securely hiding me behind his tall figure.
"Who are you telling to relax? You were threatening my mate!" His boiling rage was clear in my mind as it electrified every fiber of my body. Is this what he felt? Pure, unpredictable rage?

Taylor stepped back from Caleb as he looked over her like a fly swatter about to squish a bug. "Oh come on, I was not." She chimed crossing her arms in an attempt to seem less intimidated by him. It was odd to see her unsure of herself, I couldn't remember a time she wasn't confident.
Caleb took an ominous step in her direction no doubt forcing her to look away from him and wash away her confidence. I grabbed a hold of his shoulder making him stop.
"Caleb, stop." I whispered, watching as he slowly looked away from Taylor, although not before he gave her a warning growl.
Caleb didn't respond to me as he gently grabbed my hand and headed for the door. His eyes swirled between his natural blue and his wolffish black eyes. We were nearly out the door when Taylor shouted behind us.
"She's stunning your welcome!"
Slamming the door behind us Caleb dragged me down the hallway and into another room, his office to be exact. I had barely passed the threshold of the door before Caleb had me pinned against the wall. My breath was caught in my throat and my temperature climbed with anticipation. The minuscule of proximity did little to help the heat the grew between my hips.
My palms grew clammy as he leaned his body over mine and placed his hands on either side of my head. I felt tiny pressed against the wall. I should have felt timid, scared, or even repulsed but I didn't instead his heat that radiated off of him felt warm, inviting, and possessive.
He lowered his head to the side of my face pressing a soft kiss to my cheek. "She wasn't wrong, you do look beautiful. Like always." He complimented in his deep rough voice that made my knees want to buckle.
Nodding in reply, I swallowed a ball of emotion so that I could muster up the courage to respond properly. "Uh... thanks." My hands traced the bottom of my dress pulling at it again in hopes it's lengthen, it did not.
"You don't dress like this that often do you?" He wondered pulling back a little to look down at me, although his eyes wandered to every notch of my body memorizing everything. I felt as though I were under a microscope.
Shaking my head I gave a weak smile. "Often? How about never. I never wear this kind of stuff, I feel exposed." I squeaked pulling once more on the edge of the dress as I did so I only then noticed what Caleb was wearing.
His hair was freshly washed like he had just gotten out of the shower, and his black button down clung to his body in all the right places. He wore slim fitted jeans and black dress shoes when I was done gawking at him and finally looked up he was grinning.
"Yes, before you say it, I like what I see." I assured him stretching onto my tippy toes to peck him on the lips.
He kissed me back and I could feel the smile on his lips. Caleb pulled away and took his time looking over me again. As if he didn't get enough earlier. He didn't say anything and I took it upon myself to speak up and break the silence.
"You know, you don't have to hate Taylor forever." I mentioned watching as he features slowly hardened recalling himself bursting in the room moments ago.
He rolled his eyes however uninterested in my comment. "I'll hate her less if she has anything to add to this pack. I'm still unsure about her becoming the Beta female of my pack."

A phone buzzed.
Caleb backed away from me as he pulled out his cell phone and was looking over something that flashed on the screen. I stretched my neck out to look at what was displayed but Caleb was quick to hide the screen away. Frowning at his secrecy I looked at him to notice that he was scowling at whatever he was studying.
"You can trust her though, she'd never risk upsetting you. She's helping us without hesitation... think about it Caleb." While I urged him to reconsider he sighed and tucked his phone away.
"You don't know how sneaky and vile people can be. In this dark world those that lived by themselves for a while only care about themselves. Wolves that lived on their own don't usually know how to adapt to pack living." He brushed my hair back behind my ear as he looked down at me with a tender look. "Taylor has a lot to prove and a lot to change before I consider her anything else than Loz's mate."
I was about to object and tell him how he couldn't do this, that he couldn't be so cold but a knock on the office door interrupted me. Caleb opened the door that was next to me and I peered around the door to see Alex and Naní standing outside.
"The car is packed up, everything is ready." Alex said keeping his eyes trained solely on Caleb. I offered Alex a smile that he ignored completely. Hurt and a little insulted that Alex was ignoring me Naní offered me a smile instead. What was wrong with Alex? Had I upset him?
"Good, grab Loz and Taylor we need to head out now if we want to make good time." Alex nodded turning around again not even acknowledging my presence. What was wrong with him?
Naní gave a quick nod of her own before quickly following close behind Alex. Perplexed I looked up to see Caleb, his features were still taught with tension.
Nervousness knotting in my gut as I sat in silence for most of the ride. I was sure that Caleb was picking up on the dread I was feeling. Though, I knew much of the plan I was still very much unsure of it all, I had no extra strength or speed or much of anything. Something could go wrong and I wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
A calloused hand rested on my exposed thigh and I welcomed the calming tingles that he created for me. It soothed my nerves but the stress of it all was still very much there just tucked away under a cover of sparks.
"We're here." Loz said putting the SUV in park. In sync they all jumped out of the vehicle and adjusted themselves. Alex and Loz pulled out each a duffel bag that was stuffed tight with equipment. I gulped when I caught a glimpse of shiny chain that pocked out the top of one of the bags.
"Everything will be okay. You know what to do, we'll be close by if anything happens." Caleb reassured me as I watched Loz and Alex go into the back door of the club. My eyes darted to Caleb as I thought about every doomsday possibility. I could die tonight, someone could die tonight, I could be kidnapped, tortured, everyone was free game at this point.
I had agreed to help a couple hours ago but now I felt like I shouldn't be here. There was no better way to describe the way I was feeling other than the fact that I wished I was locked away in the highest tower out of everyone's reach. But no, I agreed to this, I agreed to bait a bounty hunter that wanted me at no cost.
"Taylor and Naní will be with you for most of the time," I tensed up and if the tightened grip I had on his hand wasn't enough to show how uneasy I had become the color that faded from my skin was a clear sign. Caleb brushed his thumb over my bottom lip before giving me a peck on the lips. "Remember I'll be watching you. No one is going to hurt you. I'll make sure of it."
Taylor shouted from the front door of the club waving for me to come over. Caleb gave me one last kiss before reluctantly letting me go and slipping away into the back of the club. I hurried over to Taylor and Nani, who were both waiting for me, both eager and dolled up for the club.
Naní pulled open the door and a breathe that I wasn't aware of holding was released as I walked inside. The atmosphere was thick with a haze of dry ice and blinding strobe lights that sent my senses into overdrive. If my sense were overloaded with the loud music, flashing lights, and hazy scene in front of me I couldn't begin to imagine what it was like for Taylor and Nani. Could they even concentrate?
When I looked over my shoulder at them they looked perfectly focused as they scanned the club dance floor.
"I'll get us a drink awhile." Naní told us as she walked towards the bar. "Stay with Taylor." She whispered in my ear before leaving to grab our drinks.
Taylor must have heard her clearly since she grabbed my arm swiftly pulling me deeper onto the dance floor. I wasn't intoxicated but with the amount of sweaty bodies and clumsy dancing around me I was beginning to feel like I needed a drink if I was going to have any hope in looking normal.
"Come on Eve! Dance, let loose for once." Taylor shouted swaying her hips to the music effortlessly.
I gulped as I noticed the attention she was getting from the numerous men that looked at her like a meal. If they were looking at her that way, I could only imagine how they would perceive me, I was much more timid than Taylor. I was prey in their eyes, dainty and small.
I was roughly pulled and soon I was dancing along side Taylor. My heart was pounding against my chest to the beat of the bass in the club. I searched the club for Caleb but came up empty handed when I couldn't pick him out of the crowd. What if he wasn't around? What if something happened to him? My stomach dropped deeper into my body.
"He's okay Eve. Here, drink this, you need to relax." Nani shoved a shot glass in my hand and waved her hand in front of my face encouraging me to toss the contents back. She leaned her head back in that moment swallowing her shot with ease, when I looked over at Taylor she had done the same. "Take it Eve."
"Shouldn't I keep a leveled head, I think that is a better plan than-"
"This is part of the plan. Now trust us, take the shot." She said through clenched teeth.
Not trying to anger anyone or ruin the plan I tossed the contents to the back of my throat and I winced when the taste of alcohol heated my throat. I felt at though my throat had just caught on fire.
"What the hell was that?" I asked trying not to gage.
"Tequila." Taylor laughed making my eyes grow wide. "Oh come on, you'll be fine Evie. Love a little."
Dancing to the music, which was a poor excuse for dancing, I leaned closer to Taylor to talk. "Don't you guys have to keep an... I don't know, a clear head?" I asked my anxiety bubbling up in my stomach, though at this point I was beginning to think it was the tequila upsetting my stomach.
"It'll take a lot more than a shot of tequila to put me on my ass. Like I said before," Taylor paused looking over her shoulder and taking another two shots from a tray a waitress was holding as she passed by. She handed the girl a twenty dollar bill before turning to face me an handing me another shot. "Drink up Evie, this is me trying to make up for missing your birthday."
Though I was still bummed out about my best friend missing my birthday, this was not, however, under any circumstances what I had in mind.
We clinked our glasses together throwing back the shots. I forced a smiling knowing that if I didn't play the part they needed me to play this whole plan would fall apart. What part am I supposed to play you might ask, the drunk, clueless human girl that is oblivious to her surroundings. I was hoping at the very least that these few shots would calm my nerves before I had the eyes of a hunter on my back.
Nearly an hour had passed and I was now a total of four drinks in. Naní, Taylor and I had lost track of time, well, I had lost track of time as we continued to dance. I had relaxed to the point that I was now searching the dance floor for another waitress to grab another shot.
"This is s-so much fun we should do this more often!" I yelled jumping up and down; my curls falling randomly in front of my face.
"Shit, are you drunk Evie?" Taylor asked amusement plastered on her face with a cheesy smile.
"Of course she is, you've fed her enough drinks to put her in a coma. Stop feeding her more drinks." Naní scolded Taylor earning her a sharp glare.
"You're no fun Naní. You don't have to be the lieutenant for tonight." Taylor explained.
Nani was unfazed by Taylor's glare as she grabbed my wrist and forced me to look up at her. She looked over my shoulder briefly looking at Taylor before gazing down at me once again. I swayed slightly and she tightened her grip to keep me from falling over. "Yeah, she's drunk. Stay right here Eve, Taylor and I are going to go get Caleb."
Shit the plan was in complete motion and for some reason I was all for it suddenly. My blood was pumping and head buzzing with... excitement? I shouldn't have been excited but I was. I was eager to capture this asshole of a traitor and if getting drunk like this and throwing myself out here to bring such people to justice so be it. I was safe after all, Caleb and everyone else were watching, though I had stopped looking for them.
By the time I was done thinking to myself Naní and Taylor had dashed out of sight leaving me in the middle of the lit and hazy dance floor. Bodies bumped into me and with the alcohol in full swing in my blood stream I was one accidental bump away from face planting.
Concentrating all my efforts into not falling over I failed to realize that someone was fast approaching me. Their strong hands planted themselves on my hips bringing my back flush against their thick muscular chest.
I waited for tingles to erupt across my skin but they did not. This was not Caleb behind me and suddenly my skin grew cold and clammy. My eyes grew wide with apprehension and the earlier excitement I had, had deflated like a god damn balloon. Where was Caleb? My eyes frantically searched the edges of the club for him, for anyone at this point. I needed help.
The man started to sway to the beat of the music as his hands roamed confidently over my body like it was his. Bile rose in my throat as I felt the disgust of his touch caress my skin. One of his hands slid up the side of my waist and as I looked down I saw thick bands of ink laced around his forearm. I couldn't quite see the design as he wrapped his hand gently around my throat making me shrink into him in an attempt to get away from his hold but it was useless.
Who was this man? Where was Caleb?
The other hand of the man trailed down my side and his fingers skimmed the bottom hem of my red dress. This caused my breath to hitch in my throat as I realized where he was going with this and it was nothing that I wanted a part of.
My fight or flight response was nearly kicking in until Naní's words rang in my ears. Stay right here Eve.
Tears pricked my eyes as I tried to keep from screaming and thrashing out of his hold. What if this is one of the guys from the photos. Is he? I don't remember what they looked like. Fuck me and my drunk brain that can't recall a simple image.
Suddenly, just when I couldn't fight off the urge to pull away the lights in the club cut out and everyone in the club is thrown into darkness. The grip the man had on my throat loosens for a brief second and I take that as my chance as I pull away and push through the many people in front of me.
I can hear the swearing and cursing that came from those I shoved but I continued on as I heard people shouting just a few feet behind me a few seconds after I'd already passed them. He was following me. My adrenaline drove me forward still not worrying about how many shoes I stepped on and people I accidently elbowed in my scared attempt at evading this man.
It wouldn't matter though because I was roughly picked up and swung around with an arm wrapped around my waist. No tingles and no sparks. I cried out punching the arm that held me. How could he see me in this pitch black room, unless he... He was a supernatural.
He grabbed my neck again this time rougher, tighter and I grimaced know pain. "Get the hell off me! Let me go!" I yelled into the darkness.
I felt the musty breath of the man on my neck as he chuckled. "You didn't really think you'd slip through our fingers this easily, now did you?"
My heart was now pounding in my ears, and though the club's music was cut off, my heart was beating so fast and so hard that it drowned out all other sounds. This explained a lot when I abruptly felt the man's presence disappear and I took that as my shot of escape. I didn't know where I was going to go but it didn't matter because I didn't get far.
Tears trailed down my face while another pair of arms held me to their chest.
