《Deception (Book #1) ✅》~22: Rare~

Eve had fallen asleep half way through the movie. She was passed out wrapped up in her green comforter her pet cat was curled up in the crook of her neck. Her long curly hair was draped over the pillows she had piled beneath her.
She look like an angel without a single imperfection in sight. Not even the scratches on her face could make her any less beautiful. Though looking at them now reminded me of the sleazy bastard earlier. This was all her friends fault for thinking she'd be able to protect Eve. Tonight, clearly showed her plan failed miserably.
Leave it to a rogue to think they can protect anyone without a pack. They can barely keep their own head above water.
Eve stirred a little under her blanket but she was still fast asleep. Taking in her beauty I couldn't help my eyes as they drifted to the base of her neck. With my sharp eye sight I could see her pulse move against her skin. My mouth watered at the imagination of placing my mark on her delicate skin.
It has been hard keeping myself from just doing it but I forced myself to control the urge fighting my wolf every chance they thought of marking her.
It's the reason why I've stayed away most of the time. I've realized the more I'm with her the more the desire grows to claim her. I just about lost all control about a hand full of times. I'm proud of my self control but it was only a matter of time before I can't fight off my wolf any longer.
I had to ream Nora out for bringing Eve down to the pack dinning hall knowing our morning patrol meeting was about to start. Honestly, I swear my sister is denser than a rock, thinking about what she almost had happen.
The amount of male scents that tainted Evelyn's pure cinnamon and sugar scent irked my wolf. He wanted to pull her aside mark her and lock her away. It took a huge amount of strength to tell Nora to take her out of the room, and shower to get rid of the scent.
My phone buzzed on the coffee table and Alex's cross eyed face lite up the screen. Evelyn stirred under the blanket but thankfully hadn't woken up.
I answered the phone walking towards the window. It was dark out and a little past Eleven o'clock at night. Usually I'd be at the club monitoring finances and meetings but today I chose to stay with her.
She was terrified to be alone now and rightfully so she had nearly been snatched up and taken from me. All hell would have broken loss if someone took her from me. She's mine!
"Hello? Earth to Caleb I can hear your Darth Vader ass breathing." Alex's annoyed voice broke my concentration.
I cleared my throat before answering, "You called?"
"Yeah, Lawrence went with Nora to clean up the scene at the school. I'm at The Den and James is here wanting to talk with you." He explained sounding agitated with the topic.
I scuffed remembering that James had sent Lucas to do the Vermilion coven's work. They wanted to take Evelyn and I still couldn't understand why. She knew nothing about supernaturals so how could she have anything to do with them? "Tell him to fuck off. His men almost got Eve killed."
"I think you should sit down and talk with him. He seemed pretty adamant on speaking-" A growl rolled out of my chest. Alex could clearly hear it as he quickly replied. "I'll tell him you're busy." He timidly answered not wanting to continue to purse the subject further.

"Is that all you called me for?" I asked sitting on the bottom step of the stairs. A horn blared outside as a car ran a red light nearly hitting another one.
"No," There was a short pause before he continued. "Lawrence was able to identify the Vampire that attacked our Luna. He was part of the Crimson Elixir clan. The initials were burned into the back of his shoulder. They also found Jessie's body... stuffed in a janitors closet."
"I'm going back to the estate tomorrow to give my condolences and be there for the burial. Was Lawrence and Nora able to track anyone else involved?" I was more than restless wanting nothing more than to dig my claws into whoever else had a hand in plotting to take my mate. I looked over my shoulder to still see her dainty body sleeping. She had to be the most divine thing I'd ever laid my eyes on.
"No, put I think we should call a meeting with Druscilla." Alex brought up the idea but I couldn't help another the growl from slipping out.
I was furious that Druscilla would allow her clansmen to go against our treaty. As if reading my mind Alex spoke up.
"Caleb, I highly doubt she knows anything about a member of her clan doing something like this."
"You don't know that! Treaties can be broken." Snapping at his comment anxiety and rage arose climbing to astronomic heights. My wolf wanted out, he wanted blood, their blood.
Could I really even call it their blood? They sucked blood off of innocent humans or their beloveds. It wasn't even their blood it was just a concoction of festering samples of different people. They were parasites.
"But think about it. Why would she break a fifty year long treaty? She knows she's out numbered it's not like Daniel isn't a phone call away, and Druscilla knows that. She might be a century old Vampire with a hatred for our kind, but she's not stupid." His words were truthful, getting me to see the bigger picture. Druscilla would want a death wish if she really had a part in Evelyn's attack.
Alex was right too with the known fact that Daniel and I had recently grown closer together after he took over as Alpha of his own pack. He was a little inexperienced but he was loyal none the less.
I groaned rubbing my face, uneasy not having her fully protected like I wanted her to be. If it were up to me she'd be in the pack estate at all times, but I couldn't be selfish. I don't want her to see me as a control freak but that's pretty much who I am. An alpha. I protect what is mine. And she was mine.
"Earth to Caleb." I grumbled noticing I dozed off in my own thoughts again. "Bro are you good? You're like hyper anxious and-"
"How the fuck do you think I should be acting?" I retorted affliction noticeable in my tone. "I want her back in our territory but she already as an established life here."
"Have you thought about asking her to move back to Black Nova estate with you?"
"No, I don't want to push it. We are finally talking." It wasn't like I hadn't thought about telling her to move to Black Nova estate but I knew it was too soon. She's pull away from me and we'd be back at square one. I couldn't deal with that all over again.

"Okay, but the semester ends in two weeks. Why don't you ask her then? She'll probably be more open minded about it then." He paused allowing me to contemplate the possibility. "It's worth a shot. I know the rest of the pack would want nothing more than to know their Luna is safe. You haven't been here to see the excitement of finding her and the concern everyone feels about her being away. Especially knowing now that she's human."
"We'll see." Muttering my reply I stood up again staring down at Eve fast asleep on the floor. The movie was still play although it was mostly over. Bastet had only now sat up and was stretching her back. Never thought I'd like cats yet here I am a little obsessed with her's.
"Just keep trying to slowly help get her adjusted to our lifestyle. I have to let you go though Caleb I need to walk James out he's waiting in the lobby." He said shuffling papers in the background.
"Sounds good to me. You'll be here by seven tomorrow morning?" I asked crouching down to push a curl out of Eve's face. Moving her hair from her face revealed the shallow scratches that had since scabbed.
"Yes, what time do you think you'll make it back tomorrow?"
"I should be back sometime in the evening. I'll let you know." I hated that I would be far away from her for hours tomorrow.
The past couple days I had been just out of eyesight from her. Alex was just a deterrent around Eve but I was always nearby. Of course tonight I had to attend a meeting set up weeks ago at The Den so I wasn't around when she got caught up with everything. I hated myself for not being there in time. If I hadn't left the meeting early who knows how everything would have played out.
"Sounds good! I'll see you tomorrow and I'm bringing Naní... for extra support since you'll be gone most of the day." Naní was the lieutenant of our scouting team and highly skilled in stealth and combat. She worked and lived at The Den most of the time, coming to the territory when trainings were scheduled.
"Okay and Alex... I'm trusting you to keep her safe. There are eyes going to be watching her other than your own. I want every detail and I want faces." I gritted out my words with lethal intent because that was exactly what I was going to do. The moment I get my hands on anyone that gets near her with intentions to hurt her I will torture and kill.
"Understood."
At that we hung up the phone.
I was still crouched down in front of her running my fingers through my hair. The stress was building up and uncertainty seemed like a daily gamble everyday. Honestly, I was surprised I hadn't sprouted a gray hair from all this stress.
Sudden music caught my attention and I glanced at the tv. The credits were rolling now on the screen as 'Welcome to the Jungle' played in the background. The loud music reverberated around the tiny loft.
Could you even call this place a loft? It felt like she lived in a show box.
She deserved more than this. I wanted to give her more than this. I wanted to give her the whole world on a silver platter but she wasn't where I am now. She doesn't feel the same intense pull that I do and it's all because she's human. Not that I'm hating on that, I actually enjoy the difference, I see it as unique... rare. I'm just worried she'll decided she'll doesn't want me.
After I mesmerized over her perfect features and dainty limbs I considered picking her up and moving her to her bed. The sudden thought of her waking up in my arm however had afraid of her reaction if she suddenly woke up.
If she woke up while I was moving her to bed she would probably freak out.
Then a thought came to mind as I remembered seeing something on the desk across the room. A spray bottle. Moving to the bottle I picked it up laughing once again at the label on it. I had laughed the first night I got here and read it.
'Spray for when the pussy bites'
I made a mental note to ask her about the label later walking back over to wear she was laying. Looking between the bottle and her angelic form a wave of guilt washed over me. She was going to either be confused, shocked, or angry.
I was wrong. She would end up being all three.
The moment I pulled the trigger back she sprung out of her sleep with a gasp. Her eyebrows knotted together as she looked around the room for the source of the liquid. When her eyes landed on me and then the hand that held the bottle her expression faded to anger.
So my little mate doesn't like being woken up from sleeping. Another mental note to take and one that I should store in a very good place because she looked like she was on the verge of throwing a punch at me.
"What the actually hell is wrong with you?!" She rose her voice drying off her face with the sleeve of her sweatshirt.
"A lot is wrong with me." I admitted unable to help the sarcasm that inner twined with my words. "But I didn't want to invade your space. I didn't think you'd be comfortable with me putting you to bed. So I-"
"So spraying me with Bastet's spray bottle was your next best option?" She narrowed her eyes standing up and balling up the comforter in her arms. The plush comforter dwarfed her size even further. She looked like an angry five year old holding a teddy bear. I couldn't help how adorable she actually looked though she was flaming hot with anger.
"Don't bite or I'll have to spray you." I blurted out aiming the spray bottle jokingly at her face. Eve huffed growing more irritated and tired. A yawn escaped her mouth and she instantly looked even more exhausted.
"Then spray me, dummy." She taunted not seeming to have a car in the world at this point. Bum.
"It says here that this spray bottle is strict to be used for when the pussy bites. I don't think that's how yo-"
The comforter was flung at my face muffling my sentence. "Shut up! I hate the sound of that word." I heard her say disgust clear as she spoke.
I chuckled and shrugged. "It's just a word. And why would you put that on the bottle then?"
Eve rolled her eyes picking up the comforter and walking towards the stairs. "That was Taylor's dumb idea. It was a joke and she super glowed the label to the bottle, you know for good measure."
Humming in reply I put the bottle on the coffee table.
"You going to bed?" I asked watching her step up the stairs another yawn making an appearance on her face.
She blinked a few times before speaking. "Yea why? Did you wanna talk about something?" She wondered. I would have though she was just trying to be polite but the little glimmer of hopefulness in her eyes was a dead give away she wanted me to say yes. Eve was trying to make me perceive her as not wanting much to do with me but the conversation earlier and the way she's looking at me now said the polar opposite.
"No it's late and you have classes tomorrow early. Goodnight."
"Okay, Goodnight."
Turning off the living room light and putting on a random show I slumped down on the sofa to get comfortable. It wasn't easy be as tall as I was. If I stretched out the whole way my feet and ankles would hang off the arm of the sofa. So I opted to bend my legs a little to cope with the inconvenience.
My mind drifted in and out of sleep too tense and stressed from everything going on. My ears were perked up listening for any suspicious sounds. There weren't any which allowed my body to relax further.
Listening to the faint sound of Eve's breathing alerted me that she had fallen asleep quickly. Steadily I fell into sleep dreaming and imagining happy thoughts and hopeful futures. The more I thought about her the more I couldn't imagine a world without her. She'll be the death of me I know it but I was fine with that. As long as I know I'd die for her it all wouldn't be in vain.
