《For the Taking》40 • Care

I should have ran. I should have screamed.
Nope.
I Seraphina had decided that it was best that I stand still in front of a werewolf three times my size like a deer in the headlights. I was as good as dead the way I saw it.
Running wasn't going to do anything and screaming was only going to dry up my mouth more than it already was.
So as I awaited my impending doom I closed my eyes and slumped down to my knees.
The wolf didn't come all the way out here to make friends and I doubted I was nothing to it the way it had moved towards me with purpose before I closed my eyes.
The drumming of my heart hammered loudly in my ears to the point all other noises were drowned out.
Ba-dum. Ba-dum. Ba-dum.
"Sera?"
My eyes shot open to reveal Desmond, a nude Desmond. I could have cared less at the moment, my arm was on fire. Tears were welling up in my eyes as the searing pain burned hotter and hotter.
"Desmond... my arm." I uttered between shaky breaths. "It-it hurts."
He ran over to me crouching down to my level and grabbing my arm. "Shit-" His finger grazed over the angry red streaks that lite up my flushed skin. "Where's Osiris?" Desmond peered over my head in the general direction I came from.
Swallowing a nauseous lump down I found my voice. "He's with Aspen. Some outsider wolves ambushed Aspen and I, he told me to run."
Desmond's eyes grew wider as he pursed his lips. I watched as a conflicting expression appeared on his face, something caused him to pause before he trained his eyes back on me. "Here." He scooped snow pressing it against my hot skin, I hissed at the harsh contrast. "It'll help numb the pain."
"I beg to differ."
Another howl rang out through the woods. Desmond turned his face toward the noise his eyes locking onto something beyond my human eyes reach.
Every one of my muscles became deathly still as I held my breath. Desmond's eyes became fogged over distracting him. The distraction wouldn't have been much of an issue but in a blink of an eye Desmond was pounced on.
He yelled out as his bare back scrapped open against the hard ground. The wolf snarled as it bared it's teeth terrifyingly close to his face. It's lips curled up as it gaped it's mouth open.
"No!" I screamed.
The wolf's ears pulled back before he quickly hid his teeth behind his lips. It craned its head toward me with a what I could only label as remorseful was.
It's once feral beast was puppy-like as he innocently wandered over to me. He whined reassuringly as I recoiled back.
"Seriously, Ozzy. You didn't have to pummel me." Desmond spit out.
"Osiris?" I looked him up and down.
This was my second time seeing him as a wolf and if I was being honest with myself I was utterly impressed. Large tall ears perturbed from the top of his head, dark round eyes captivated my soul leaving my speechless. As my eyes traveled further down his furry body my eyes stopped at his front leg. It was soaking wet.

My trembling hand reached out and slid down the front of his leg. My hand being instantly bathed in red.
Blood.
"You're hurt." I pointed out.
Osiris didn't seem to be fazed as he licked his leg clean. Watching him in awe I absent mindly rubbed at my arm. It still ached and though it didn't feel like it was on fire it still burned with heat.
A cool dewy feeling planted itself against my arm causing me to jerk back but it only earned me a growl. I furrowed my brows in confusion.
"He wants to check the wound on your arm." Desmond explained still glaring daggers at his brother.
I glanced back up to Osiris who's eyes glowed in an insistent way toward my arm. Swallow a lump in my throat I stretched my arm out showing him the raised streaks of red that trailed down from my elbow to wrist.
He lowered his head once again sniffing along the inflamed streaks, pausing when he reached the bottom. His lips curled up again making my heart thud hard against my ribs.
"I was tracking them this whole time. Don't get angry at me." Desmond said defensively.
Osiris had to have been talking telepathically to him because Desmond scoffed seemingly fed up as he looked at his brothers wolf. Osiris growled in disapproval but Desmond seemed unbothered.
"How was I supposed to know she was out here this far? I thought you took it upon yourself to watch over her. She's not my responsibility."
Osiris let out a warning growl.
Desmond rolled his eyes as he stood up. "Oh now you want to call her our Luna."
Bones popped and snapped, before I knew it Osiris was standing just as bare as Desmond. Dirt was smuggled on various parts of their body as well as stains of dried blood. They both looked disheveled like they lived wildly in the wilderness.
"This isn't a joke Desmond. She is your Luna."
"We'll of course she is. I didn't ever think she wasn't you were."
"Where the fuck were you anyways? You were no where to be found."
Osiris had stepped up to Desmond, there chests were nearly pressed against each other. They were practically the same height and from where I was sat on the ground I could help but blush uncomfortable as their manhoods hovered just millimeters apart.
Why I took notice of that? I couldn't give you an answer but it distracted me from all the building testosterone these two threw out. So without eyeballing their... well jewels I settled my eyes in the space they both huffed their hot breath.
"I was tracking down a pair of wolves. Wolves that were from Midnight Eclipse."
My eyes lite up. "Midnight Eclipse? Like as in Alpha Antonne's pack?"
I stood up as Desmond turned to look at me. Osiris kept his devil like gaze on Desmond paying no kind to my questions.
"Yes." Desmond answered training his attention back on his brother. "As in Alpha Antonne's pack."

There was a twitch at the corner of Osiris lips. He gradually shuffled through emotions until he morphed from anger to scared? My eyes had to be deceiving me.
No he couldn't be. Osiris was one of the most intimidating people I've ever met. I couldn't imagine a single thing that would cause such an emotion. But here he was terrified.
"I don't understand. What is happening?"
Osiris rolling my his bottom lip into his mouth before looking at me. "There's a lot going on and we," He paused giving Desmond a remanding look. "-are figuring it out as we speak."
Another eye roll from Desmond and Osiris just about had it. Declaring his dominance over Desmond he jabbed his finger into his chest to which Desmond swatted away.
"I may be your little brother but I'm not your bitch."
"Stop it. This isn't going to get us any closer to finding out why we have so many trespassers." Aspen scolded coming to stand next to them with her hands on either of their shoulders.
Silence fell on all of us as Osiris and Desmond simultaneously looked at her. I could only see the back of their heads from where I stood but I could see Aspens clear as day and it was anything but shock.
Her eyes trailed over to mine. They were anything but warm and inviting as her eyebrow with an unamused chuckle. Dropping her arms from the brothers she crossed them; her eye still fixated on my every move.
It was like I was an ant beneath her thumb.
"It's her, isn't it?"
Silence.
Osiris made no attempt at answer her question. Desmond did the same, unmoved.
Aspen's eyes darted between the them and eye. With every eye contact she made toward me she grew more and more disappointed.
I couldn't understand why, it wasn't like I had anything to do with this. I was a no body, a defective werewolf that is anything but a supernatural. Why anyone would want something as fragile as I was beyond comprehension.
There was nothing that I could offer to any pack. I wasn't a genius, or someone with healing skills. I wasn't a werewolf so anything to do with combat and strength was off the table. So what did I have to offer?
The question echoed in my head. I was technically a Luna; a weak Luna. I was a human Luna with no great skills or sense of protection. What did I have to offer to an entire pack of people.
Good thing I wasn't sticking around to face the rejection of my own pack. Good thing I wouldn't have to sit through another string of insults and abuse. Good thing I already knew I was a no body, it made it all the more easier to just leave and not look back.
"Why me? I am nothing." I muttered standing up. I hissed as a wave of heat shot up my arm. Shit it was still messed up.
Heads turned as I walked a little closer to them. Significantly shorter than everyone else I craned my head up to face them.
"We don't kn-" Desmond started before Osiris planted a hand to his chest hushing him.
"It's because of me." He sighed.
"Because we are mates." I whispered to myself. It all was starting to make sense. The dead body, Philip calling me. It all was lining up and I was too stupid to figure it out.
I was staring at the ground as I told myself everything that I missed and how slow I was at connecting the dots.
Oh god. I had gotten people killed. The guilt grew with every frigid second. The killed wolf the other day, was probably because of me. Oh god. The two wolves back there... in the woods. I'm sure their dead. It was all because of me.
My breathing quickened. So blinded by my own racing thoughts I didn't realize the hands on my cheeks right away until they were lifting my face up.
"This is what I was trying to save you from." His velvet voice told me.
Too stunned to speak I allowed him to rub my cheeks with his rough thumbs. The shy tingle of arousal helped subside my guilt; a distraction I happily welcomed.
"This is my fault." I crooked. Osiris shook his head but I didn't believe him, how could I he was a perpetual liar. So I looked to Desmond. He would be more honest than his brother. "This is my fault, isn't it?"
Desmond frowned unable to hold my gaze.
"It's not your fault Phina I promise-"
I ripped his hands off me suddenly find his touch fiery hot.
Clutching my chest find the air thicker and thicker to breathe I backed away looking at Desmond still for an answer.
"This is because of me. Just say it." I demanded.
"Phina."
"No, say it! Say it now, and don't lie to me."
Desmond looked defeated a mournful face forming as I became more and more emotional. I wanted to scream.
Husky hand curled around my upper arms holding me back from stepping toward Desmond. It was easy to know who it was as a buzzing sensation erupted through my arms to my chest.
"Leave us." Osiris ordered his voice low and imposing.
Aspen and Desmond hesitated, their eyes flickered between I and Osiris. It took them a few seconds to reluctantly back off. Aspen was quicker than Desmond at shifting into her wolf. He lingered in front of us making no attempt to shift.
Osiris took in a sharp breath when he became impatient. It still amazed me how far Desmond regularly pushed Osiris's buttons.
Desmond looked over his shoulder as his claws grew. He was getting ready to shift.
"Remember you two are mates." He warned as he shifted.
And so there were two.
