《For the Taking》25 • Stay

To say I was stunned with the ease with which I could get Theo and Gabriel to follow my orders would be an understatement. It felt weird and over-powering. I didn't particularly like that I had that kind of control over someone.

When I glanced over at the two men now that sat at a neighboring booth from us I watched them make the booth look child-sized. How did I have the power to just make them change their mind?

"This was amazing." My mother exclaimed cleaning up the last of her food on her plate.

"I'm glad you enjoyed it." Ivy gushed. "How long will you be staying with us?"

A faint frown tugged at the corners of my mothers lips. Her eyes traveled over to mine as I stared waiting for her answer.

"We go back tomorrow. Vander needs to get back to the training grounds." I didn't know why I took her answer as a surprise, but I had.

It was no secret that my father would be ordered back to work the soonest they could call him back. I guess I should have expected this much being that alpha Philip would still make my life miserable even at a distance. Of course, he'd call them back as soon as possible.

"That's a shame. I would have liked to show you all around more with Seraphina." Ivy wished pulling of a credit card from the back pocket of her jeans.

My eyes trained onto the thick piece of plastic as she sat it down at the front of the table. The black shinny plastic was engrained in my brain from the last time. I didn't miss the silver engraved name on the card.

OSIRIS WRAITH

So Osiris just gave out his card to everyone? Why would Osiris pay for my parents and friend when he showed how much he didn't like them already. It wasn't his responsibility anyways, it was mine or Desmond's.

I made a mental note to question Desmond when I saw him back at the cabin. There was a lot that I needed to figure out and get answers to because the more that I looked around and listened the more I was slowly beginning to realize things weren't completely adding up.

"Unfortunately alpha Philip has been at your father for weeks now stressing about how the patrols need more training and-"

"Helen, I don't think they want to here about my training duties." My father interjected cutting her off.

I could hear the slight shifting as I looked over to Theo and Gabriel who had stopped their chattering to tone into our conversation. All this time they had been playing around flicking paper footballs between each other but the moment that my father mentioned Dark Titan it was like all their attention had toned in.

Theo leaned his back harder against the back of the booth craning his neck in our direction. Gabriel stared tentatively at the back of my parent's head. I was thankful that none of them could see the two guards that watched them like criminals.

Was this how Osiris's pack always was? Scared and suspicious of any outsiders?

"You're parents have to go back tomorrow, but I was trying to stay here for a little while longer to keep you company." Andy chimed in resting his arm on the back of the booth behind me.

A low rumble sounded from across the café and as my ears picked up on the noise as I jerked my head in that direction. Theo's normally light brown eyes glowed gold as he eyed the arm that rested behind me. Not trying to start anything more than what's happened today I poked Andy's arm playfully until he returned it back at his side.

He gave me an apologetic look before continuing to talk. "With your alpha's permission, I mean."

Andy looked over to Ivy as he mentioned getting Osiris's approval. I didn't see why he couldn't stay. He was human, barely a threat to the likes of a whole entire pack of werewolves. Plus, he was one of my closest friends, he'd never purposely do anything to harm a soul. I defended me back at the gathering and if that proved anything I think it showed that he cared for me.

"I-I don't know about that. Osiris isn't one to just let anyone live amongst our pack." Ivy cautioned her eyes briefly lifting to look at the guys that sat on the other side of the café. "You'd have to talk to him."

"I could talk to him for you, Andy." I chirped looking from Ivy to him. My head did a quick one-eighty though when Ivy spoke up.

"I don't think that's a good idea Phinny."

My enthusiasm was squashed. "Why not?"

She hesitated as she darted her eyes between my own and the guys. Her eyes fogged over a moment before they returned. All these unhear-able conversation were growing to frustrating me. I was the beta female didn't I have a right to know almost anything to deal with the pack. I got say now didn't I?

My father scoffed. I wasn't sure if it was due to her words, hesitation, or mind link conversation.

"I'm not surprised." He grumbled under his breath to which my mother slapped him across his chest to shut up.

"Vander." She scolded. He took a deep breath, I could tell he was trying to keep his composure but as time went by it was growing hard. When his eyes made it to my own it seemed to be his breaking point as he abruptly stood up.

"Get up Helen, we are leaving." He demanded to my mothers surprise. Still processing his order she sat unmoved in the booth. "Helen let go." He said again.

Finally registering his words she popped up on her feet sliding out of the booth and into the walk-way.

"Wait, you can't just leave? You just got here." I sputtered standing up. My sudden action nearly caused Andy to fall out of the booth. "Sorry," I apologized trying to help him back into the bench.

Andy moved out of the booth completely guiding me out behind him as I power walked to catch up to my parents. Catching up I grabbed their hands they held together bring them to a stop. MY father turned with a scowl that faltered a little as he gazed down at me. My mother on the other hand was utterly distraught. She was on the verge of tears.

"At least stay the night. Please." I pleaded. I wasn't ready for them to all leave. They had just gotten here and although nothing was as it was before back at Dark Titan it felt nice to see familiar faces.

Staying here wasn't as bad at Dark Titan but I still missed everyone I grew up with. Ivy was nice so was Desmond, but it wasn't the same. Nothing was the same anymore and I was desperate to find something that truly felt normal and familiar.

He placed his hands on either side of my face as he stared sorrowfully in mine. A tear trickled out the corner of my eye that he quickly wiped away. Recalling Osiris's threat I sucked in my pain not needing Osiris to kick them out any sooner than they already were leaving.

"Seraphina, we have to go back." He sighed when I shook me head. "I have to go back alpha Philip is expecting me."

At the mention of the bastard alpha snapped something in me as panic rose from a roll in my belly to my throbbing throat as I fought off my crying. How could I tell him he couldn't go back with out, blurting out the fact that Philip threatened my mother. My father would challenge him the moment he went back.

It wasn't that I didn't have faith in him to put up a good fight against him it was the fact that Dark Titan members were loyal to Philip and would ambush him. If I told him and he didn't do anything and Philip found out they were as good as dead too.

Then there was that panic feeling of not telling them and letting them go back and hoping to god Philip wasn't as evil as I thought him to be. Thoughts of him plotting and killing them in their sleep seeped into my mind.

On the brink of buckling under the weight of everything I wrapped my hands around his waist. The action reminding me of when I was little and would throw myself in his arms after he had a long day of training year ago.

My face was buried in his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around me too.

"Please dad, just please- at least stay the night." I begged pulling away to look up at him.

"Sera-"

"Please, just please for me."

He looked down at me through dull eyes as I watched him contemplate. "Okay-" I tightened my arms around him rendering him empty of any oxygen that was once in his lungs. "-we leave first thing after breakfast tomorrow." He finished through ridged breaths.

My mother rushed over to throw her arms around us two just as happy as I was he changed his mind. I knew deep down that she wanted to stay longer but knowing who my mother way she'd never leave my father's side for longer than a day.

From what she'd told me and what I've heard from other people through the years, my mother would become deeply depressed when he'd go off to battle grounds. I tell myself that she was simply worried sick for him but another part of me knew better that the bond ran deeper in her than most wolves.

Their were levels to bonds from what I could see and I think that dealt mostly on the personalities of the wolves. While my mother become worried sick at the distance others would be at peace. Knowing this made me question if I ever wanted a mate. I didn't want to someone to have that kind of control over my emotions like that.

Now that I had discovered my mate though I've come to realize that I wasn't drawn to him as much as my mother was to my father. I wasn't sure if that was due to me not having a wolf or the fact that I was just different.

"Sorry to interrupt the family reunion-" A new female voice I had only heard a few time broke the heartwarming moment. I pulled away from my parents to look at the tall brunette she-wolf at the café door.

"Aspen." Ivy cheered throwing her arms around her mate's neck and pecking her on the lips.

Caught off guard Aspen caught her smaller mate in her arms before Ivy accidently threw her off balance. She cursed under her breath something about the fact that Ivy needs to stop running at her full speed.

I snickered under my breath as I watched the to curled in each other's arms. Aspen slowly set Ivy back down on her feet before turning towards me.

"Seraphina, Jensen sent me to come get you." I instantly perked up. It had been days since the last time I spoke to him after Osiris forced him to halt his research. I had thought he'd given up or forgot about me, hearing that he asked for me had my heart pumping. "Something about more results he'd like to share with you."

"Results? Are you seeing a doctor Sera?" My mother wondered looking concerned.

"Are you okay?" My father questioned.

"Yes, I'm perfectly fine. Jensen is the pack medic slash scientist. I wanted to get a second opinion about why I have no wolf. He thinks he's on to something the last time we spoke to one another." I explained unsure if I should share much more. Nothing was for sure and if I got my hopes up I'd just upset myself when the say results came back like they had for years.

"D-did he find anything?" My father asked alarm in his voice. An frightened expression fell over both their faces as they awaited my answer.

Shaking my head I couldn't help but feel perplexed by their reaction. "As far as I know the only thing that he'd drawn from the tests is that I have lower than average growth hormone. He thinks that could be the reason behind my inability to shift." I made my way to Aspen. "If anything knew is found out today I'll share it with you both." I assured them.

"Yes, please do." My dad pressed.

"I'll take them back to the brother's cabin until you get back from Jensen's." Ivy mentioned as Theo and Gabriel stood up to follow behind them.

"Could I go with you Sera?" I had momentarily forgotten that Andy was still there and as I peered between him and Ivy I watched as Ivy shook her head slightly.

"Uh-yea." I replied slowly. "I don't see why not."
