《For the Taking》3 • Beauty

I thought my blood was boiling already seeing as Philip was ignorant enough not to invite me and my pack to this years annual mate gathering. Desmond warned me and cautioned me not to lose my temper, it was difficult enough not chocking the guard throat when he tried to stop me.
When I saw what I could only call the essence of beauty in the hallway helpless and fearful my wolf had come to my forefront. It took every inch and ounce of my own will power not to snap and rip her alpha off her fragile arm.
How dare he handle her so roughly! Smelling the scents in the hallway her's was pure and... human?
It made no sense, but then I felt the male human's aura that radiated vulnerability, I mean it was quite obvious that werewolves were stronger, his scent of weakness gave me distaste as it tainted the beauty before me.
Her long blonde bouncy curls fell effortlessly and perfect down her back and over her shoulders. Her skin was just barely kissed by the sun with a hint of olive to her complexion. Her face held imperfectly dazzled freckles and her captivating hazel eyes felt like she could stare straight to my dark soul.
Did she know? Of course not she had run off with out blinking an eye, leaving me to defuse my wolf from hounding her.
'What is the matter with you Osiris, why are you so furious. So he didn't invite us who gives a damn?' My beta retorted not understanding what had just unfolded before my very eyes. If he only knew.
Ignoring his rather rhetorical question Philip broke the thick silence. "You shouldn't have come. You are not welcomed here wanna-be alpha." He gritted through clenched teeth.
I wasn't sure what he was trying to portray to me all alone. It was just him standing in front of myself and four other members of my pack. The very best skilled members at that I might add. Philip was a damn fool if he thought he held any sort of chance against me, us.
"You weren't supposed to come Osiris." He reminded me, as if I didn't here his irritating voice the first time.
Growing more annoyed by the second I stepped up, against Desmond's earlier warning to behave. I could care less at the moment, these alphas act as though I'm some subordinate, I had time and time again proven otherwise. Maybe it was time to show once more what I was, starting with this prick first.

"Philip, I don't listen to you now move out of my way. I didn't come all this way to pick a fight with an incompetent alpha." I was unimpressed by his threats, as if it would intimidate me.
"This is my pack, you are on my land, in my territory."
Chuckling under my breath amused at his need to prove himself I spoke up. "Only a man who lacks self esteem and confidence flaunts his accomplishments."
I didn't wait to see Philips face drop but by the few snickers from the men with me I knew it was amusing. I usually would indulge in watching the discomfort I brought to people but right now my mind continued to wander over the small blonde female.
My wolf scratched at the inside of my mind, he wanted her regardless of the fact we had just bumped into each other. We didn't know one another and I had never seen her before, she didn't smell like a normal wolf. Wolves smell fierce and threatening she smelled innocent and docile.
I released a huff in curiosity as I followed in the direction she scurried away in. What was a human doing in a wolf pack?
"Where do you think your going?!" Philip screamed running around us all and shoving my chest back. The audacity of this man never failed to surprise me.
Not thinking twice and my wrath igniting every nerve in my limbs I threw my arm landing a deafening punch to the side of his head. The older man dropped to the floor just barely catching himself before his head hit the marble floor.
Fixing my suit and hair I felt the fire behind my eyes glaring down at the bastard for being foolish enough to touch me.
'So much for coming in peace.' Desmond grumbles in my head but I could care less. He didn't know what I felt when I saw her and the fact that this alpha had the nerve to hurt her.
She looked petrified when he grabbed her and she flinched as if this wasn't the first time he'd intimidated her. My mind only grew more confused when I reminded myself she was so much weaker than our kind, and this alpha was handling her like a rag doll. I didn't miss the bruise that rapidly formed on her sun kissed skin or the way her hazel eyes looked sad and terrified.

'I don't mean to stop you from your angry child tantrum but where the fuck are we going?' I growled at his disrespect. Desmond still disregards my position switching from beta mode to little brother, it never failed to piss me off.
Preventing myself from lashing out I opened my mind so that he could see the signals my wolf was picking up on from the girl. My wolf was practically screaming in my head the same word over and over and the way Desmond grabbed my arm to stop me I knew he heard them too.
His brown eyes were wide in shock before it morphed into a sly smirk. Rolling my eyes I yanked my arm from his grip finding his amusement in discovering my other half as some sort of sarcastic joke.
'Where do you think she went off too?' Desmond asked entertained at my compulsion towards her already.
'Did you see the way her alpha handled her? How far would you run if you had that man a hair away from snapping?' I retorted finding my brothers question rhetorical. It was obvious to even a blind man that she was terrified of her own alpha and if she was scared of her alpha what did that men about her treatment from her pack.
'Honestly I think I'd kill the man. If you can even call him that.' I turned my head to face him narrowing my eyes at his stupid comment. Of course he would kill him he could kill him, my little lost half didn't even look like she could kill a fly let alone a wolf.
'Yea, I'm sure a hundred and twenty pound, five and a half foot girl can kill a two hundred pound alpha.' The dead pan voice I used made Desmond roll his eyes as we pushed open the front door.
Her scent grew faint outside and had been mixed by a wolf's, a strong female wolf at that. As I took in the scent some more I made out the connection between the beta female earlier and this scent. It was her's, but what was the other male scent I picked up on. It smelt weak and I mean physically weak like that of a human.
As if sensing my thoughts Desmond intruded once more.
'He's human.' He confirmed what I already knew and the more information I put together about this beautiful girl I became more puzzled.
She wasn't a wolf but she wasn't a human. She was close friends of the beta but also a human. If she had no wolf that meant she didn't know what I meant to her which would explain why she darted her eyes away every time I caught her staring. She could feel it but she doesn't know what I am to her and what she is to me.
She'd never leave willingly, not when she finds out what kind of reputation I've made for myself. I feared this day most in my life, I dreaded it like the plague.
I thought I'd be able to reject her, and realizing that she wasn't a wolf herself I had a glimmer of hope that I could just walk away with out batting an eye. The fact she had no wolf and didn't know what I was to her made it easier to walk away, or so I thought.
Seeing Philip man handle her left me fearful of what he'd do the moment she was caught alone with him. He looked disgusted by her. How? She was the definition of perfection.
Seeing her terrified shaking form when he mentioned he'd finished were he'd left off made me grind my back teeth. Losing my temper now over her would alert just about every guest her, every alpha, that she was my better half. I wouldn't put it past any of them that they rush at the first chance they had to take her away torture her or worse kill her to bring down all that I've built.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised when you're known as the alpha slayer.

Fragments of Glass
before the 1939-1945 War, most churches in England had stained glass windows, but despite local people's best efforts many of these windows were smashed in the bombing. What could be repaired was repaired, but in many churches all they could do was reassemble the remaining fragments randomly, with extra bits of clear glass added to eke them out to fill the windows. That is what I imagined for my collection of short stories: fragments of stained glass, bits of robe, bits of faces, all sorts of odds and ends randomly stuck together. And with quite a lot of clear fragments among the coloured ones. Just broken pieces of stories that anyone can look through.
