《Tracks》Chapter 40: Pool floaties

"I love you but I don't know how to say it?"
Song-Animal; Neon trees
Once I change into a black bikini and Cameron's in his swim trunk, we go down to the indoor pool. He swipes the keycard in front of the scanner and the door clicks before opening. We walk in and notice it's empty.
"Look a floaty!" He squeals, running to one of the pool chairs and grabbing the ducky floats before stepping into it.
"Seriously?" I chuckle, walking over to him as he pulls it up.
"Yes seriously, I look like a bad bitch in this." He flexes his muscles in my face. I roll my eyes and shove his arm away.
"You know how to swim though."
"That's not what their purpose is." He scoffs, shaking his head.
"I'm pretty sure it is."
"No a floaty is an accessory." I give him a plain look and he says "seriously, look it up."
"My phones in the roo-" before I can finish my sentence Cameron's arms are wrapped around me and I'm being carried into the pool with him. The cold water shocks my entire body and when I come up for air I lunge on him. "You dick."
"Awe, you're thinking about my dick?" He grins, pushing his wet hair out of his face. The water drips down his face and he looks incredibly attractive while I look like a drown rat. He pulls the floaty off and throws it to the side.
"Fuck you." I kick my legs to hold myself up and shoot daggers at him with my eyes although we both know I'm not really mad.
"Is that a challenge?" His arms wrap around my waist and he pulls me into his chest. "Hold your breath."
I quickly breathe in before he pulls us both underwater. I open my eyes, ignoring the chlorine burning them. Cam leans in and kisses me. My hands run through his hair for a second before we both emerge to catch our breath.
"Can we play mermaids?!" I ask in an excited tone.
"What kind of question is that?" His brows furrow before a smile erupts onto his face "of course!"

After about an hour our fingers become pruny and a family with 4 little kids comes bursting in. We get out with the sound of the kids squealing and giggling beside us. The parents send me an apologetic look but I just smile, wrapping my body in a towel.
"I'm going to take a shower." I tell Cam when we get back to the room.
"Can I join?" He pleads, fluttering his lashes.
"No."
"But it'll save water. Think about the environment." He try's to convince me but I refuse, gathering my clothes and toiletries and going to the bathroom.
I slide open the glass door and turn on the shower to the hottest temperature. My damp bathing suit sticks to my skin as I pull it off. I step into the shower and shut the glass door behind me, letting the hot water wash over me.
I'm lost in thought when the sliding door is pulled open and Cam steps in. "Cameron."
"Marlee" he has a dopey smile on his face. Next thing I know I'm pushed against the glass door, water washing over both of us and our lips barley separating.
"I never want this weekend to end." I say softly, out of breath.
He places a small kiss on my lips, his eyes full of passion and caring "me either."
The next morning the loud blare of a phone alarm wakes me from my sleep. I bury myself into Cams chest "shut it up."
"I'm trying." He groans, his hand slamming agains the dresser eventually turning the alarm off. "We have to head home soon."
"Do we have to?" I whine, looking up at him.
"Well we don't have to." His voice had a morning rasp to it that I love. "But I don't think our parents would like that very much."
"Theo would probably March all the way up here and drag us home." I comment, readjusting to where I'm facing the celling and his arm is wrapped around me.
"He definitely would."
We slowly get up and pack all of our things. When we leave the receptionist tells us to come again even though it's obviously she doesn't mean it since yesterday's rain situation. The truck was packed up and we were on the road before noon.

We stop for breakfast after an hour of driving. Once we're full we get back in the truck and play car games the rest of the way home. I spot the redwood sign and I feel a sense of dread.
Of course I love all of my family and friends here but this town felt like a different world. I mean outside of the town life moves so fast but here it's like everyone is stuck. I don't want to be stuck.
Cam drops me off at my house, offering to carry my bags in but I assure him I can handle it. When I walk in the door I'm swept up in a hug.
"Marlee I missed you so much!" Theo cry's, squeezing the life out of me.
"It's been like 2 days." I explain when he sets my down.
"Way too long. Did you not miss me?" He pokes out his bottom lip.
"Of course I did." I pat his arm, setting my bag on the ground.
"So what'd you bring me?" He asks, smiling brightly. I stare at him for a minute before shaking my head and walking into the kitchen. Grayson sits at the table eating a bowl of cereal.
"Hey Gray." I ruffle his hair and plop down next to him.
"You're back! You can never leave me alone with Theo again." He looks at me with wide eyes.
"One, I wasn't that bad." Theo joins us in the kitchen. "2, seriously Marlee what did you get me?"
"I got you the joy of seeing my face." I grin up at him.
"Where's the receipt, I wanna return it."
I take a shower before going to my room and falling straight asleep even though it's really early. I wake up from a nightmare, my heart pounding in my chest and my head spinning. I hadn't had one in a while, I thought- hoped they were gone.
My stupid brain wasn't on the same page as me though. I tried to fall back to sleep but my head wouldn't stop running. Every time I closed my eyes I would see his face. I throw my blankets over and get out of bed.
I just need a distraction for tonight.
I slowly make my way to Theo's room, he was dead asleep, snoring while curled up in a little ball. He's the heaviest sleeper I know so I wasn't too worried about waking him up. I open his dresser door and find it stocked full of different bottles of alcohol.
Grabbing one, I walk back to his door. He shuffles a bit and I freeze.
"Don't hurt me flying bagels." He mumbles in his sleep. I stifle my laughter and leave his room, shutting the door behind me. When I get back to my room I set the closed bottle on my dresser. My door opens and Grayson comes in, sleep in his eyes.
"Marlee?" I stand in front of the dresser trying to hide the bottle.
"Yeah?"
"Is everything okay? I heard you get up so I was just making sure." He yawns, a worried look painted on his face.
"Everything's fine Grayson, bad dream." I reach over and hug him. "Go back to bed, I love you."
"I love you too." He hugs me back before going back to his room. I lock my door and turn the lamp beside my bed. I stare at the bottle, debating when Evan pops into my head. I grab the bottle and take a large swig.
I just need a distraction.
I don't really know how much time passed and I don't know what was so funny but I was giggling a lot. Well I don't really know anything.
What's my name again?
Theo... no it's Marlee.
That's a funny name.
Marlee, Marlee, Marlee.
I hear a noise outside my window and stop giggling. I look over to Charlie "who is that?" He didn't answer me, instead just stared straight at me. "It's probably a murderer, go get them." I tell Charlie. He doesn't move so I take him and throw him at the window as it slides open.
"Shit!" Cam whispers, I grin and stumble out of bed, running towards the window.
"Cami!!!"
