《Locking Stars (Stars Series #1)》24

I think Ash was wrong when she told me I had nothing to worry about when it came to Jordan because watching him from the bench, in my position, practicing with my team, makes me want to hurl my fist into his face.
I'm not usually a hot headed person, but when it comes to hockey and my future, that's when I can get a little heated. I glare daggers watching Coach explain to Jordan the next play. Why the hell am I even here if he wanted Jordan this whole time? Granted, Jordan is not allowed to play in games since he joined mid season, but I wouldn't be surprised if I suck ass the rest of the season and he shines so he takes my spot in my senior year.
There is no way I am letting that happen. A few minutes later, Coach blows the whistle calling the end of practice and I race myself to the locker room to get the hell out of here.
I hit the showers before my other teammates even get their skates off. I quickly shower and grab my clothes, not even making eye contact with my teammates as the pass me.
"D," Brooks calls from opposite of me. I look up at him and he looks confused. "Why is Brody takin' your spot?"
I shake my head and shrug. "Hell if I know," I say, flatly.
Brooks' confused expression deepens. "Well the guy is not as good as he thinks, or as much as Coach thinks. Dude, he can't even play till next season. Just kick ass and he won't have anything on you." He says.
I don't make eye contact with him as I stare down at the shoelaces I just tied. "Thanks man, I'm gonna head out." I say.
"You seeing Ash tonight?" He asks, curiously.
I shake my head. "Nah, she has a study group and then a project to finish. She told me I would distract her." Despite my sour mood, a small smile grows on my face thinking of our conversation on how she refused to let me come because I would distract her.
Brooks laughs and he tells me goodbye as I head out. As I walk toward the doors I pass by the jackass himself. The douche just brushes past me without a second glance. If he wasn't Ash's cousin there would be a lot I would like to say to him. But I ignore it and take my sour self to my car and start driving.

Driving usually helps clear my mind. And there is a lot that occupies me lately. My mom keeps bugging me about seeing her and I just can't do that right now. With school, hockey, and well I really don't want to leave Ash, I just can't afford to be gone for a week or so.
My mom started dating her boyfriend Lance about a year ago. He's some stockbroker from Jersey and apparently he's loaded. Which I bet is exactly what my mom wants. I roll my eyes at the thought. Sure, I love my mom, I really do. She can just be very single minded sometimes.
When my dad died, I got a bunch of money that I could use when I turned eighteen and my mom of course got some too. My money went to college and also pays for the house the guy's and I live in. I might as well use the money when it's important because if where I want to go with hockey takes me there, I don't need a crap load of money that goes to no use. I've never been someone who cared about money. With my mom as a lawyer and a NHL player as a dad, money was never something that really ran out.
And that's not me complaining, it's just there is so much more to life than what's in my bank account. Like Ash. Her parents aren't the richest people in the world. But they are happy and love their daughter. But when I saw Ash's aunt's house, I wasn't as shocked about the house, I was shocked that Ash's family doesn't care about the money or the big house. They just like spending time together and having their own life's.
I've been debating if I should tell Ash that I love her. The look on her face when she saw her Christmas gift made me want to blurt it out. But I held back. And I don't know why. I've never felt this way about someone before and it's all new to me. There have been girls but not ones like Ash. She's kind, funny, and not such a pushover. She's not super into what she looks like and just likes being herself. It's exactly what I admire so much about her. And it's the exact reason why I'm not too excited for when my mother meets her.
I didn't lie when I said my mom supported me. She does. It's just the way Ash supports me in hockey is not exactly within the same intentions as my moms.

I roll my eyes again thinking of what she'll say when or if she meets Ash. Let's hope that day doesn't come too soon.
After driving around for awhile, I disobey my orders from Ash and pull up into the parking lot of her dorm building. I text her a picture from the inside of my car and she replies a few seconds later.
Ash: Hey! I told you not to come!
Me: I couldn't resist.
I see the bubbles move for a few seconds.
Ash: fine. But can you please please please try and not distract me too much. I was really hoping to get this done today.
She ends that text with a sad face and I laugh.
Me: I promise.
I exit my car before she can reply back to race up to her floor. Right as I reach the door, the door opens and a playful glare plays on Ash's face.
"You may sit on my bed and tell me about practice," she says. I go to say something but she interrupts. "But, only if you promise." She holds out her pinky.
I give her a look. "Seriously?" I say.
She nods. "I'm serious." She says and I can tell she is trying her hardest not to smile.
I wrap my pinky around her small one. Before she can release me I tug her by her pinky and pull her into a kiss. She immediately melts into it and I push us inside the dorm and shut the door behind us.
I nudge us over to her bed and her back leans against it. Her lips are warm and soft against mine as we kiss. God, I love kissing this girl. It's like a bomb goes off everytime. But in a good way, not a bad one.
She seems to hesitate and tries to pull away but she just ends up melting back into me. But a few moments later she releases me. "Project," she says breathlessly. "You are breaking your promise."
I smirk and peck her on the lips again. I release her and lay out on her bed. She shakes her head and returns to her desk, then becoming very focused on her work.
I decided not to tell her about practice yet and let her do her thing. I slyly pull out my phone from my pocket and take a secret picture of her. Her hair cascades over her like a curtain and her eyebrows are knit together in concentration. I could watch this girl watch paint dry and still be entertained.
About an hour later, she takes a satisfied breath and smiles down at her work. She looks back up at me. "All done," she says.
She puts her stuff away and gets up from her desk to come lay with me. She snuggles next to me and kisses my cheek.
"So how was practice?" She asks.
I groan. "Not so good." I say.
Her concerned green eyes meet mine. "Why? What happened?"
Do I or do I not talk crap about her cousin? I don't think she'd be totally mad at me, but it's a consideration. I go with a neutral route. "Jordan took my spot in practice today." I say, glumly.
She looks confused. "What? How? He just transferred. And he's a sophomore."
I nod. "Exactly my point. But I guess that doesn't matter."
"That's not fair." She says.
I chuckle. "Not all things are." I comment which just makes her frown deeper.
"Jordan is not as good as you. I know he's my cousin and all but I saw you during the shoot out with him." She says. "He couldn't even keep up."
I nod. "Maybe Coach was just testing him out?" I say. "I don't know the whole story."
She nods. "You're right. Maybe it's since he's new."
"Okay," I say. "No more hockey talk. How was your day?"
She makes a face. "Long, boring," she smiles. "It's better now."
That makes me smile and I kiss her. There's been this tension between us lately and it's not a bad tension but an arousing tension. I can tell Ash isn't ready so I don't push her but man she really knows how to push my limits.
I move my lips down to her collarbone and her hands move down to my pants. She slowly pulls down the zipper and un buttons them, teasing me as she always does.
"You're teasing me." I say.
She chuckles. "Am I?" She says innocently.
One of her fingers traces underneath the waistband of my boxers and I'm done for.

He played for the combat, he played for the grind and he played for his guild but above all he played for the story. Kyle is a roleplayer, one who enjoys the simple parts of this virtual life. Whether his guild was starting a war or ending one he'd always have his drammatic entrence or exit, his decleration of annihalition or demand of surrender. After all that?
