(I wrote this at 3am, no judging.)

Lila had asked Nathaniel out on a date a few weeks ago and they started dating afterwards, but I refuse to let it go any farther than this.

Ok, so what if I only realized why I hated it a few days ago? So what if I didn't understand how I felt? The point is that I do now and that's all that matters.

*next day*

"Hi Nathaniel! Lila." I said as I walked over to the two.

"Hi Chloè..." Nathaniel blushed slightly and rubbed his arm.

See that Lila? He's blushing and it's definitely not because of you. "I need to talk to you later Nathaniel, so I'll see you later." I say with a smile that disappears when I look at Lila. "Goodbye Lila."

I walk to my class and plan out my next move. Nathaniel is in my 3rd hour class and Lila isn't so I'll talk to him then.

My classes pass slowly as I think about what I will say, until my mind wanders...

What if he says no? I mean, Lila is pretty, but not as pretty as me. What if Nathaniel doesn't think that... God, is this what nervousness feels like? I hate it! It feels like I have butterflies in my stomach.

As if, I shouldn't be jealous, Lila snuck into my place in Nathaniel's life with her lies. If she hadn't have come along, I would have him and we would be happy.

When 3rd hour finally rolled around, I strutted into my class and sat down next to Nathaniel.

"H-h-hi Chloe, s-so what did you want to talk ab-bout?"

His face was almost as red as his hair and it only made him look cuter. Good lord he's adorable.

"Wha-what? D-did you just call me adorable? Chloè?"

"Did I say that out loud?" I look around and see that the whole class is looking at me in shock, heads nodding. "W-well I meant everything I said and what I wanted to tell you is that I like you, even if you're with Lila. I'm the better and more well liked of the two of us. I've known you longer, we wee even friends in primary school. So if you would make a choice between the two of us, that'd be great."

I practically ran back to my normal seat and just in time as the teacher walked in a little after I sat down. I was trying my best not to blush bright red during class too.

I should have known it was coming, but after school Lila came up to me royally pissed and started to rant.

"Ya know what Chloè? You can have him! I'm so done with you! You never let me have any glory! Even at our fathers' meetings and parties, you took center stage! I got an A? Well Chloè got 3! I got a part in a play? You got the lead! I enter a pageant and you win one! No matter what I have ever done, you have always shown me up and now that I finally find someone who likes me, you take that too! Enjoy your life." She walked by me, purposely hitting my shoulder with hers.

After she walked off, Nathaniel came up to me shyly.

"So I guess you figured out my decision, huh?"

I threw my arms around his neck and whispered to him. He gave me a weird look as if to say "are you sure?" And I nodded. He walked off in the same direction as Lila, a bit confused, but started to run quickly. Sabrina walked up to me and asked me what I had told him and I replied simply.

"I told him to do the right thing." Tears started to slowly run down my cheeks, but I smiled and went home.

I went home a different person.
