The ninja and Ari travel through another forest on their way to the City of Rats. What they found strange was that Ari didn't let them light a fire when they stopped to camp. They also often slept in the trees while Ari kept watch.

In the day time Ari made sure to keep them all together as she led the way. She seemed on edge, like their was something she wasn't telling them, something dangerous.

"Hey Ari" Lloyd caught up to her as they walked "is their something wrong?"

"Of course their is, this is the shadowlands, their's beasts everywhere" Ari replies "The creature we don't want to run into especially is called a vraal. Despite that their are many creatures that can't wait to capture and eat you"

"Eat us!" Jay shouts

"Like that's new" Kai comments

"Do any of the creatures grow bigger every time they eat something?" Cole questions sarcastically "cause if not I'm sure we'll be fine, we defeated the Devourer"

"And where do you think the Devourer was born?" Ari asks turning to the ninja

The ninja all stared at her in disbelief.

"Uh" Lloyd looks around "you don't mean-"

"Their's a whole breed of Devourer's in the Shadowland's" Ari turns around and keeps walking "they're called Uroboros"

"That sounds dangerously close to the City of Ouroboros" Kai says

"Yes, that's where the name comes from" Ari answers "don't you guys know anything?"

"Just how many of us are master's in your time?" Jay asks

"As of right now, me and Lloyd" Ari tells them "Sensei Wu is training Zane to become the next master currently, but he doesn't have much time left. Sensei is in terrible health and I fear his end is near"

"What, but he's Sensei" Cole says

"Yeah, he's like ancient" Jay adds "how could he die"

"Eventually everyone reaches their end" Zane says sadly "including sensei"

"Come on" Ari says to them "let's keep moving"

As the sun sets Ari suddently stops and looks around.

"What's wrong?" Kai asks

"Kai, Lloyd, light fire" Ari instructs

Kai and Lloyd light fire in their hands as Ari puts her ear to the ground and listens. She quickly stands up looking panicked.

"Wolves" Ari says "a whole pack of them, run"

The ninja quickly start running and they soon see the wolves behind them. They keep running until they're cornered by a large rock. The ninja turn to face the wolves who.. laugh?

"Uh last time I checked.. wolves don't laugh" Jay says

"These aren't wolves" Zane looks at them "they're genetics do not match those of wolves"

"Oh no" Ari lights a purple fire in her palm "don't tell me they're-"

The wolves are clouded in smoke and they suddently transform into different forms of hideous monsters.

"Their's so many of them"

"No wonder they got poor father"

"We're gonna have a feast"

Lloyd looks at Ari "what are they?"

"They're Sorcerer Gorgias's childen" Ari replies

"His children? Heh, now I've seen it all" Kai says

"How many times in your life are you going to say that?" Ari asks "you guys say it all the time"

"And you'll hear it another 100 times in your life" Cole tells her

The monsters close in on them and they step back a bit farther, right into a net. The net goes up trapping them and making them drop their weapons.

"Shit, this is giving me flashbacks to when you idiots dropped your weapons trying to get the fang blades" Ari says

The monsters started building a fire under them as they sang.

"More heat, more heat. Tender juicy roast meat! Watch the fun, till it's done. Hear its groans, crack its bones! More heat, more heat, tender juicy roast meat!"

"Oh they're going to eat us" Jay groans "this is it, this is how it all ends"

"Would you shut up" Ari says "We need a diversion so we can escape"

"Two legs for Ichabod!" The giant red monster says beating his chest aggressively "Two legs and a head"

"No! No! Fie and Fly say no!" a pair of smaller green twins cried

"What are they doing?" Cole questions

"It appears that they are fighting over which parts of us they get to eat" Zane replies

"We share meat!" Hot and Tot, the smallest, yellow monsters shrieked "Hot and Tot say equal shares"

"Are they stupid?" Lloyd shouts suddently "Do they not know that they cannot have equal shares!"

"Lloyd what are you doing?!" Kai whisper shouts at him

"There are eleven of them and six of us. You cannot divide six into eleven parts. It is impossible!" Lloyd continues

The monsters started staring aggressively at each other.

"But if their was six of them they'd each get one of us" Lloyd says

"Equal shares!" shrieked Hot and Tot. "Hot and Tot say-"

Ichabod pounced on them and banged their heads together with a sharp Crack! and knocked them out. Ichabod swung around and leaped upon Zan, since he was the closest, and knocked him out cold too. Zod bellowed in rage and jumped onto Ichabod and they started wrestling.

"Oh but don't forget that Zane's a robot so he won't be meaty at all" Ari adds "besides the fact that me and Jay are shorter then the rest of you, making less equal portions"

"Hey! I'm not short" Jay says annoyed

With that, Ichabod smashed Zod's head to the ground, turned around, and bellowed in triumph, beating his chest. He then leaped onto Fie, felling her to the ground. Suddenly, they were all fighting- shrieking, biting, and bashing- crashing into the thorn bushes, tumbling into the fire, rolling on the ground.

With them all fighting Aria was able to burn the back of the net, allowing all the ninja to safely climb out, grab their weapons, and make a run for it. Soon they heard the sound of the remaining monsters chasing after them, having realized they escaped.

"Hurry, Sorcerer Gorgias's territory ends up ahead. They won't be able to follow us!" Ari shouts to the others

The ninja suddently stop behind Ari when they reach a small canyon.

"We have to jump" Lloyd says

"What!" The other ninja shout

"It's our only chance" Lloyd moves back

Lloyd makes a running start before jumping over the canyon and landing on the other side. The rest of the Ninja quickly following his lead, Jay being the last.

"Jay hurry!" Cole shouts

"Oh but what if I fall" Jay whines

The monsters were not visible behind him.

"Jay!" The ninja shout

"Get your ass over here!" Ari shouts

Jay looks back at the monsters and shouts before quickly jumping over, barely missing the edge he begins to fall into the canyon before his hand was caught by the rest of the Ninja who pull him to safety.

"Phew" Jay wipes his forehead

Ari and the ninja look at the other side of the canyon where Gorgias's childen were glaring at them. The monsters shifted into wolves, turned around and ran back into the woods.

"We did it!" Ari laughs "we're out of Gorgias's territory"

"Thank goodness" Kai sits on the ground and let's out a breathe

Lloyd turns and looks at the road ahead of them "Now we're even closer, to the City of Rats, and the next gem."
