"Sensei aren't I supposed to be training?" Aria asks irritated
"Yes" he replies
"Then.." Aria stops wiping the windows "why the hell am I doing chores!"
"Because this monastery hasn't been cleaned in hundreds of years" he chuckles
"By the way Sensei" She looks at him "what's your name anyway?"
"I have many names" he strokes his beard before smiling "but you may call me Sensei Roshi"
"Hm" Aria nods "alright"
"Now, continue" Roshi sits on a chair
"You've gotta be kidding me" Aria says annoyed
"Nope" he sips tea "continue"
Aria growls in annoyance and continues wiping the windows. After she finished wiping all the windows inside and outside of the monastery, she began to wash the floor... with just a cloth!
"You've got to be kidding me!" Aria shouts "how am I supposed to clean with just this?!"
"You dip it in the bucket and wash" Roshi replies "I thought it was pretty obvious"
"Ughhh" Aria goes and places the bucket down
"No no no" Roshi walks over and takes the bucket from her "you must keep the bucket off the floor, or it'll make marks. And you must only us your feet, it'll make it much quicker"
"You old geezer" Aria says annoyed "why does it matter?!"
"Everything matters" Roshi hands her the bucket and walks away
"Fine" Aria huffs and starts to clean the floor the way he said
After awhile she finally finishes, it was night time and she was hungry.
"Good" Roshi praises "now that you've finished, please get started on dinner"
"W-what?!" Aria shouts "I dont know how to cook"
"Oh well, guess no dinner for you then" Roshi shrugs and walks away
"Ughhhhh!" Aria shouts in frustration
Master Roshi sat in his office, he could hear much racket coming from the kitchen. He guessed that would be his young pupil attempting to cook. No matter how many shouts and noise he heard he refused to leave his room.

His wolf familiar, Maximus, sat next to him. Max kept glancing from Roshi to the door. He seemed concerned for the poor kitchen.
After a bit it was quiet and Roshi finally stood up. He and Max made their way through the Monastery and to the Kichen. When he opened the door he found Aria sitting on the floor fast asleep.
Roshi looked around the kitchen to see it a mess, their was a lot of failed attempts laying around. However their was one pot of fried rice that was not messed up, she had already eaten some before she passed out.
Roshi chuckles and pats Aria's head "you still have much to learn my young pupil"

Dig a Little Deeper
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Being a dungeon isn't easy. Past memories just out of reach, not wanting to be a murder pit and trying to find a purpose are just the beginning. It takes time and several hiccups to transition from being a mobile being to being a stationary rock that changes the word with its mind. What is the miasma right outside the door? What monsters does it hide? Can the people that have found me really be trusted? Now planning to post a chapter every other week. I have added a volume for the maps so they are easy to find. There are spoilers on the maps. Cover art commissioned from Rachel Paizs through Upwork.com

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/

The Epiphany Colony
Brad Asher has been a private detective on the Epiphany Colony orbiting Mars for about a year before stumbling into a conspiracy that threatens the safety and stability of the colony. Note that the story here is the first draft and has a lot of ideas, characters, and plotlines that I ended up dropping in the final version that I released here currently available on Kindle Unlimited. The entire second half was restructured, as I ended up not being satisfied with some of the things that I introduced and felt like it had strayed too far from my initial vision of a space-based detective noir story.
