⚠️Warning!!⚠️
This chapter will have mention of suicide and suicide attempt, cutting, blood, and possibly some swearing! Read with caution! (I am going to try and put out a wholesome sweet chapter next though I promise^^)
It was near the end of the year when all the hermits would be destroying all the work they'd done up to this point and starting all over again. Grian didn't want to start again and neither did Mumbo. Mumbo had been really sick of being trapped; he couldn't even remember how he'd got sucked into it in the first place.
It had been too long to remember back that far. Grian could still remember, but he hadn't started hating being 'trapped' quite yet. He knew there was no escape and that he was stuck forever now, but he had Mumbo and was also still newer.
{flashback}
"Congratulations!
You have been chosen as the new hermit for hermitcraft!
We are looking forward to seeing you in the new year for the beginning!
By agreeing to join hermitcraft, your life is now given to us. You will be stuck forever, never allowed to leave. But, you have infinite lives! You will never die again!
We hope you will consider joining!
You'll really love it!
Sincerely,
The originals

He hadn't forgotten the letter. Grian remembered grabbing a pen as fast as he could and signing away his life to join a lifelong game he would never be able to escape. He thought he'd forget it ever happened soon enough though.
'Come to think of it, I don't remember being teleported or when exactly it was... I just remember waking up in a bed that's sent my own... everyone was there...' Grian thought to himself.
He looked around, and everyone except Xisuma was gone. "Where'd everyone go?!"
"Through the portal. You're the last one, Grian." Xisuma gestured at the portal.
"Oh... alright then." Grian stepped slowly through the shiny blue portal. [yes, I said blue. Thought I would go for something other than purple.]
Immediately, Grian forgot all about the letter and teleporting.
"Where am I?!" He was confused... terrified... "how did I get here?! Help!"
Mumbo rushed over to him. "Grian, love! What's wrong?!"
"I-I don't know where I am...! Can you tell me where I am? W-wait... who are you?"

"Grian, it's me! Mumbo! Your boyfriend..!"
"Y-you don't seem familiar... I'm sorry I must've hit my head or something... I can't seem to remember anything....."
Mumbo held Grian. "Love, you're in hermitcraft. This is your third year here... I'm so glad you're here with me..."
Grian slowly started to remember Mumbo, but had still forgotten the letter. He remembered hermitcraft, and all the hermits, and then remembered him and Mumbo getting together halfway through the year.
"Oh Mumbo! This year we should build our house together!" He hugged the moustached man; the love of his life.
"Whatever you'd like love." Mumbo smiled.
The two collected resources together and started on a mini base.
It was small; red stone powered doors; a 2 story house with everything they'd need until they could work on a mega base together.
"It's beautiful" the two said together as they looked at what they'd made.
"Too bad it's only going to last a year..." Mumbo sighed.
"Yeah..." Grian yawned. "Well, I'm tired... ready for bed Mumby?"
"I'll meet you inside in a bit..." he smiled softly, and Grian went inside.
Mumbo headed to a quiet spot on the edge of a cliff and sat there. He pulled a pocket knife, opened it, and looked at it for a minute. He slowly rolled up his black sleeve, and the white one underneath. He put the blade to his arm and made a small cut at the wrist. It started bleeding a little bit, but not much.
'Why... why do I have to get stuck here..?'
It hurt. Not badly, but it still hurt. He made a few more cuts, slowly getting bigger until he made a big enough cut that it bled all the way down his arm. There was blood all over his pants and white shirt. He set the knife down, stood up slowly, and walked to the very edge of the cliff.
'Shit, I just cleaned this shirt... well, that's what I get for wearing a white shirt when I decided to cut myself...'
He'd been crying for a while now. He wasn't sure how long he'd been out there. He looked at his bloody arm, and was ready to jump off.
"Mumbo! Mummmbooooo!"
He heard Grian's voice from a distance. He loved hearing that voice... it was his favourite sound in the world. He wanted to run to him, but was scared of him seeing his arm. He rolled down his sleeve and sat at the edge again. He buried his face between his knees, wondering if Grian would find him and how he would react if he did.

He felt an arm on his shoulder. Grian sat down next to him.
"Mumbo!! Thank god you're okay! I was so worried about you... it's been 2 hours! What have you been-"
Mumbo looked at him; his face was red, his eyes a little puffy, tears running down his cheeks. Grian grabbed his hand, and as he did, he saw the blood. "Mumby my love... what's wrong..?"
"I'm just sick and tired of this... hermitcraft. It's all the same every year... collect resources, build a mega base, play games, move on to next year... I can't take it anymore Grian!"
Grian hugged him tightly. "Oh... oh love, I'm so sorry... why didn't you tell me something before..? You know I'm always here to talk..."
"I know... but this just seemed so much easier..."
Grian sighed along with Mumbo. The two sat near the edge for a while in silence just enjoying the view.
It had started getting really dark and it was hard to see anything. "Ready to go back home?" Grian smiled.
"Yes, let's go..." Mumbo smiled back.
[While Mumbo was out at the cliff; this is what happened with Grian]
"Yeah..." Grian yawned. "Well, I'm tired... ready for bed Mumby?"
"I'll meet you inside in a bit." He smiled softly, and Grian went inside.
He went and sat on his side of the bed. He clutched Mumbo's tie which he now kept under his pillow.
'Oh Mumbo... you're so perfect... I don't deserve you...' Grian pulled out a small blade; small but sharp. He made a small cut near the middle of his arm, and a couple just below it. He didn't bleed much, but he wanted to make sure no one would notice. He took a white cloth and wrapped it around the cuts and rolled down his red sweater sleeve.
About an hour had passed; Grian had been reading a book and began to wonder when Mumbo would be back. He decided to wait a little while longer before going to look for him.
10 minutes passed, and still no Mumbo.
20 minutes...
45 minutes...
Over an hour...
'Alright, where's that spoon now..?' Grian put on a scarf and went outside to look for his love.
"Mumbo! Mummmbooooo!"
[Back to the present]
The two stood up and held hands, walking away from the edge of the cliff to their home. Grian hadn't told Mumbo about his wounds at first, but decided to tell Mumbo at home. He figured he would understand...
Mumbo opened the door for Grian. "After you." He laughed.
"Why thank you kind sir!" Grian laughed along and slowly walked in. Mumbo followed right behind him.
The two climbed into bed.
"Mumbo... I need to tell you something..."
"What is it? You can tell me anything."
Grian rolled up his sleeve and removed the cloth. "I..."
"Oh Gri..." Mumbo hugged him tightly. "It's alright... we'll get through this..."
"Yeah, we will..."
They smiled at each other and both laid down on the bed. Grian turned off the lamp beside him.
"Goodnight Gri, I love you." Mumbo grinned even though he knew Grian would not see because of the dark.
Grian knew though, and grinned as well. "Night Mumby, love you too."
I'm gonna aim for a really sweet wholesome chapter next; I'm not used to writing the more depressing stuff but I felt like the story was just kinda too perfect and dragging along with too much happy and no problems. I felt like this was kind of needed for the book without killing off any characters or having any plots from other hermits to pull apart the relationship.
I also feel like this just helps to show that every relationship has different problems no matter how perfect they seem. Relationships aren't those perfect ones you see in a hallmark movie; they take a lot of effort and partners need to be able to understand each other without having to say anything.
Sorry I'm ranting now haha. I really hope you enjoyed this chapter! Thanks for continuing to support and read my story!!!
(Also, this chapter had over 1000 words!!!)

The tyrants, the villains, the kings whos names will be remembered long after their empires are dead. But, there are those whose names live on long after even kings and emperors are gone. True heroes are never forgotten. Check out the latest chapters right here! I'll release each arc as I finish it on Tapas. Thanks so much for reading!
8 153A loose thread
The goddess picked him up. He tried to struggle free, but her grip only tightened. Eventually her thumb caught his head, pulling it backwards. He stared helplessly as she brought her free hand closer, revealing a small vial in her massive hand. She pressed it to his lips, and he felt the contents flow into him. He tried not to drink it, but his body would not listen. Despite his revulsion, his body ignored him by drinking deeply. "Drink and forget. I will give you everything you ever wanted. A loving family. A comfortable home. And then, " Her grip tightened, and forcing the air out his lungs. He coughed up the strange liquid and caused more to spill. “And then, you will pay for your defiance. On your twentieth birthday you will remember.” She pulled the vial away and turned him to look at her. “You will remember, just as everything you love is taken from you, right before your eyes…” Her voice trailed off and his world went dark. .... The above leads right into the story. The first chapter is a bit rough as the MC (a child at the time), hurts himself rather badly. I will try to include similar warnings on chapters as the story goes on, but I want to be up front that I may miss or forget things. Many of the tags are included so I can have flexibility writing the story. I am posting this largely to hold myself accountable to keep writing. Chapters will be short, but I am planning to post weekly. This is the first thing I have written (you've been warned). I am enjoying the story and I hope you will too. Please feel free to let me know what you think of the story as it progresses.
