《Fever》Heartbreak Hotel

Elvis is on the bed, guitar in hand when you find him. He doesn't look up as you stalk over to him, only really noticing you when you take the guitar out of his hands.

"Y/N-" he starts, but you interrupt.

"Shelia called just now," you spit, voice dripping with venom. "Says she's thinking of you, said she's sorry about how things between the two of you ended."

Elvis's face goes blank for a second before he opens his mouth to speak, but you continue.

"How long?" You ask, angry and embarrassed.

Elvis furrows his brow.

"How long what?"

You roll your eyes, setting his guitar down and reaching over to slap his shoulder.

"How long were you going to keep lying to me about her, Elvis?!"

You're so upset, heart feeling like is shattered into a million pieces.

Elvis stands, coming towards you with hands raised.

"Y/N, listen-"

"Don't you come near me!" You yell, backing up. You're trying to hold back the angry tears that are threatening to spill, not wanting to give him the satisfaction.

Elvis stops, but he looks so sorrowful you almost want to push aside your anger and go to him. The heartbreak outweighs that feeling, however.

"I love you, Elvis!" You shout, proper tears streaming down your face now. "I love you." You're voice is quieter now, weaker. "Does that mean anything to you?"

Elvis licks his lips before he speaks.

"Of course it does, baby it means everything to me." He's talking quickly, and you can see that he wants to hold you but he's holding himself back.

Good, you think. You feel like you'd crumble if he touched you now.

"Shelia was nothing, just some girl I met on the set of my last movie."

This makes you think back to your first meeting, how you met on the set of his special.

"Is that what I am too, then?" You ask, voice thick.

Elvis shakes his head.

"You're more than that. More than everything." Elvis takes a step towards you.

You take a step back.

"When I saw you for the first time, it's like my whole world froze up." Elvis's eyes are dark, so blue you could fall into them. You try to resist.

"I had to meet you, Y/N. I had to have you. This is different than anything I've ever felt before."

You're lips tremble. Elvis takes another step forward, you take one step back. Your back hits the wall.

"Then why did you lie?"

You're voice breaks, and so does Elvis's heart.

He runs his hands through his hair, shaking his head.

"I don't know, I don't know what the hell come over me." He looks angry at himself, hurt passing over his face. You swallow a sob.

"I was so fucked up on the booze and the drugs I- I thought you'd freak out if I told you the truth." He looks close to tears himself.

You wipe your eyes.

"Were you seeing her while I was in Texas?" You ask, needing to know the truth.

Elvis looks down, hands on his hips.

"Yes."

You whimper.

"Did you sleep with her?"

Elvis's head shoots up to looks at you.

"No. Absolutely not."

A wave of relief washes over you.

"I broke things off with her that night, just after you had gone to Texas. I would never, ever do something like that to you, Y/N."

He's right in front of you, and as if he can't seem to stop himself, he cups your cheek.

"You gotta believe me."

You're crying in earnest now. His touch is enough to make you fall apart, and you tremble your way into his arms, sobbing into his shoulder.

He holds you so tightly you're sure you'll shatter into pieces.

You feel tears forming a wet spot on your blouse. He's crying right along with you.

The two of you stay like that for what feels like forever. You've finally stopped crying when you speak.

"You can't lie to me again Elvis, you can't." You say. "Even if it hurts my feelings, you have to be honest with me."

You think back to all of the lies you've been told in your life, how the people who had promised to stay had abandoned ship at the first sign of trouble. You think of Kerry, of how he had promised to be by your side no matter what.

Now, Kerry was in what seemed like another world, and you were left alone.

You pull yourself back to look at Elvis.

"You're all I have."

Elvis looks down at you, the words sinking into him like rain into soil.

"I'm not going anywhere, doll. I promise." He surges forward, kissing the top of your head. He pulls you hard into his chest.

"I promise."

You nod against his chest, closing your eyes.

You feel exhausted, crying having worn you out.

Elvis holds you in his big arms, strong and silent as he rocks you side to side softly.

You realize in this moment that you need him to take care of you, just as much as he needs you to take care of him.

A picture of Gladys sits by the window behind Elvis, her eyes seemingly upon you as you look over Elvis's shoulder.

Grandma Dodger was right, you think. Elvis and you are made for each other.

Heaven sent.
