Bethan was awoken by a loud ringing noise, she started to groan, looking at the clock seeing it was 4:30 in the morning she grabbed her phone. Snapping at who ever was calling at this unholy hour

B. Hello

C. Bethan it's me Caroline

B. Why are you calling at half 4 in the morning

C. Tyler is going to be at the miss mystic falls because it's held at his house so I'm not going which means your in charged

B. I can't run a pageant

C. Bethan who throws the best parties in mystic falls?

B. Me obviously

C. Just think of it as a party, follow my plan and everything will be fine

B. Okay fine but why are you calling this early?

C. You have to be there for 6 am thank you, love you bye.

In this moment Bethan truly hated her best friend, but did as she was asked getting her ass up and headed to the lockwood property. She grabbed Caroline's clipboard and began to follow the list of things that need doing .

"okay round tables no more than 8 seats per on table" she yelled out , running around like a headless chicken. When she had an idea. She took out her phone calling the only person who could help her

B. Stefan thank god! I need your help with the miss mystic falls pageant

S. I'm sorry but I'm not going

B. Your a founding family it's practically law plus you know all about this snooty people stuff

S. Considering I just broke up with your sister because she has feelings for my brother I would say I'm not in a party mood.

B. How are you coping?

S. Well I'm trying not to rip out someone's artery if that helps

B. Why don't you call Caroline, she's all depressed over Tyler and could use a project

S. I'm not gonna be a fix me Issue for Caroline

B. Please please please please please...

S. What are the Chances of you shutting up until you get your way?

B. Slim to none

S. Fine I'll call you later.

Bethan felt truly sorry for Stefan Elena was messing him around she kinda knew what he was going through she'd be cheated on and watched the guy she had a crush on date her sister. Speaking of the devil.

"you can start by arranging flowers" Bethan ordered her sister about shoving a vase into her.

"are you mad at me?" Elena asked her sister taking the vase.

"kinda of yeah" Beth admitted shrugging her shoulders

"why i thought you was 'team Damon'" elena stated air quoting team damon.

"I was but I thought you choose Stefan as your soul mate or what ever?" The green eyed girl asked rolling her eyes at the drama.

"I did but when I changed my feelings for Damon magnified they've become more intense" the doppelgänger confessed looking down slightly.

"I know I heard all the gory details from Stefan" Beth informed her sister trying to move away from the elder Gilbert.

"he told you why?" Elena was slightly upset and jealous he spoke to her baby sister about it all.

"second best, not being good enough kinda my area of expertise" the human reminded her as she straightened the table.

"how is he" Beth could see the guilt in her eyes.

"heartbroken" Bethan spat back.

"What did you want me to do lie to him?" The vampire exclaimed throwing her arms up in the air.

"no but you should have jumped back into bed with him if you were still confused" for once bethan wasn't the Gilbert girl causing trouble.

"I am confused really confused" Elena admitted nodding her head.

"well that's okay I guess" Beth rolled her eyes as they where approached by someone new

"Excuse me I'm a little lost im suppose to be interview contestants" the curly haired man spoke.

"are you professor Shane?" Elena asked hearing all about him from Bonnie.

"yes professor by day, pageant host by next day" the girls gave a slight laugh.

"I'm suppose to be handing out a scholarship?" Then Bethan remember Caroline's detailed coloured coded plan.

"inside by the parlour" Bethan instructed reading off the clipboard.

"guess I'll just follow the signs" she waved the girls off.

"creep?" Bethan asked Elena

"creep" she confirmed.

"okay now hurry up you have a lot more tables to do" Beth clapped her hands causing Elena to roll her eyes why would anyone put her sister in a position of power.

Bethan was out front sorting a late delivery as three girls came to the front to place flowers.

"what the hell are you doing! the flower chart clearly says they go around back, which according to Caroline's notes you had weeks to memorise. How is it I can know where they go in five minutes of reading it?" She snapped them the girls eyes widened with fear as the scurried along around back.

"Well how am I not surprised you are are at the helm of this ship?" That same British accent spokes as klaus appeared.

"Go away I am to busy" Bethan replied reading over Caroline's plans trying to ignore him.

"I was just wondering what time I should pick you up tomorrow?" Klaus asked, Bethan didn't even look up from what she was doing.

"I was promised a date in return for one of my hybrids" he reminded the brunette.

"yes like a date to a movie in dark room were I can put three seats in between us" she finally looked up to meet his blue eyed stare.

"Surely the reigning miss mystic falls won't be hosting the party alone, I know you won't be with Caroline because she avoiding tyler after his indiscretions with his lady werewolf friends and matt is taking your sister due to trouble in paradise" klaus smirked as he could see Bethan starting to cave.

"fine if you insist on coming meet me here, 2pm black tie optional" Bethan started to walk way before she swung back around.

"I already have a dress so don't even think about getting me as much as corsage" the Gilbert girl warned him poking klaus in the Chester with her index finger.

"and don't be late" she yelled behind her walking back into the lockwood manor, klaus Just smiled watching her walk away as she had this power radiating off of her.

"I'll see you tomorrow bethan" he yelled back.

Bethan walked back into the lockwood property when she bumped into Caroline.

"what the hell are you doing here?" She exclaimed at the blonde considering she was only here because Caroline couldn't face it.

"I'm just helping April with her dress then I'm leaving" Caroline admitted to her best friend holding her hands up.

"PS the place looks good Beth" that gave Bethan a boat load of confidence. The pageant was due to start and Bethan was degrading the help, she picked up two empty glasses.

"why am I busting your tables? I said no empty glasses" shoving the glasses into the guys chest then she moved on to her next victim the orchestra.

"will you pick up the pace this is a pageant not a funeral. Come on" she clicked her fingers. She turned around coming face to face with klaus,

"and how am I doing" he asked, she was taken back a bit with how good he looked.

"you're, you're perfect" Beth admitted looking at klaus mikaelson stoof infront of her in a suit.

"which is so beyond annoying a can't even look at you" that caused klaus to smile that's when he caught a sight of Tyler and Hayley.

"they didn't waste anytime did they" klaus commented seeing the two teens together making Bethan's blood boil.

"more time than it took him to get over me" Beth mumbled, klaus gave Bethan a look of sympathy.

"let's get today over with" she said bethan walked off. Hayley and Tyler approached the crown on display.

"I can't believe I won" Hayley started by putting the crown on her head.

"firstly I would like to think the judges for look past the fact I'm a raging bitch" Tyler interrupted Hayley's 'acceptance' speech.

"you don't wanna do that those girls will cut you. They have nails" Tyler reminded her knowing miss mystic wasn't something the girls of mystic falls took lightly.

"but I have claws" the two werewolves where cut off with there little joke as the crown was snatched of Hayley's head by none other than Bethan.

"And I have a bitch slap that sends 100 year old vampires to the floor. Tyler you should know this by now the trash is kept around the back." Beth informed them giving Hayley her bitchest smiles pushing past to start the pageant.

"Good afternoon everyone I'm Bethan Gilbert, the reigning miss mystic falls and sadly my co Queen Caroline Forbes is unwell today, which means I have the sole honour and privilege to introduce this years miss mystic court" Bethan spoke through the mic, Bethan read off this list of girls until it came to the final one.

"and finally we have our last minute entry and a dead close friend of mine miss April young accompanied by jer- Matthew Donovan" matt gave Beth a slight glare as she used his full name, but he escorted april to the dance floor. Bethan went around to find Elena.

"where the hell is jeremy" she questioned her sister still trying to look out for him.

"I don't know I'm gonna call him" that's when Damon joined the girls.

"do youKnow he's having dreams of kill me and hiding it form us?" Elena asked her sister who shook her head.

"I have a bad feeling" the youngest girl admitted to the vampires.

"it's fine, do the math emo teen open bar" Damon simply put it but the hunters sisters didn't agree.

"I don't know" Elena confessed and Bethan agreed with her.

"I'm not worried and you shouldn't be but I'll go look for" Damon left the girls.

"Okay you go home I'll ask around here" Bethan suggested ignoring Damon's idea.

"no Damon is right he probably snuck off into the woods with a bottle" that's when Bethan was shocked as she just stared at Elena.

"okay? Damon is sneaky, rude, manipulative and my friend but he's rarely ever right how can you not see that" the human reminded elena.

"I don't know but I know your fine with reminding me" elena shot back making Bethan hold her hands up.

"okay sister-vention ever since you have these strong feeling for Damon your turning into a completely different person, and starting to cloud your judgement and you know I use to think he would be good for you, but if your gonna change your personality just to be with him or please and I don't like it and the thought of you to together-" bethan was cut off by klaus resting his hands on the young girls shoulders.

"easy love. Your making a scene" he whispered in her ear and it didn't go unnoticed how Bethan immediately relaxed.

"Wow thank you sis your really making this difficult time so much easier" elena stormed off leaving the human with the hybrid.

"okay how did I become the bad guy" she asked only wanting to protect Elena.

"let's get you a drink and Ill tell you all about being the bad guy" klaus replied offering Bethan her his arm which she gladly took. The two walked side by side.

"so your saying being a vampire has changed elena" klaus asked and Bethan nodded to his question.

"yeah but I thought being a vampire only enhances who you are not change you completely" Bethan ask klaus slightly confused Over the whole thing.

"it's very peculiar isn't it" klaus commented as the two sat down on a bench.

"that's why you need to find this cure already and fix her" Bethan told klaus well more like ordered the vampire.

"I'm working on it" he promised opening the bottle of champagne.

"would you ever take it?" Bethan wondered looking up at the vampire.

"now why would I wanna cure my self of being the most powerful creature on the planet" he responded smugly giving the brunette a wink.

"oh come on you mean to tell me there isn't one moment when you wish you was human" she asked taking a sip of the champagne raising her eyebrows at him.

"curing vampirism is like forgetting it existed so would you? Forget it exists?" He asked Bethan as he stood up pulling out a piece of paper.

"Would you go back to a time where you was co chair of the mystic falls beautification committee and the head of the art show to raise money for orphaned kids" klaus spoke and Bethan choked on her drink.

"is that my miss mystic application?" She asked jumping up trying to grab the paper.

"where did you get" she reached for the piece of paper but klaus dodged her laughing.

"when I am chosen I intended to redefine excellence" as he read out each line.

"I am really enjoying your use of when here, it's very confident" he hybrid teased as Beth tried to get it back, the human glared at the British vampire

"and above all I promise to aspire, inspire and perspire- obviously we ran out of words ending in spire" klaus laughed as Bethan kept fighting.

"yeah it's very funny. It's hilarious. Just-" she kept trying to grab it only for klaus to be one step ahead of her. He gave her this look causing Bethan to start laughing The two sat back down.

"Bethan they need you to read out the results" on of the girls told her.

"no rest for the wicked" she told klaus winking.

"I bet none of those girls will look as beautiful as you did when you won" klaus flirted and Bethan's cheeks heated up.

"I didn't have the best style back then I had a red dress with pink hair" she informed the hybrid grimacing just thinking about it.

"you had pink hair of I have to see pictures" the Gilbert girl playfully glared at him. Before going up on stage.

"now the moment you've all been waiting for and I've been dreading to pass the crown on to the next miss mystic fall" Bethan let the suspense build.

"miss april young" she announced, taking the crown off of its pillow placing it ontop of the girl in the red dresses head.

"Do you promise to uphold the duties of miss mystic falls and be a role model for girls all over town?" Bethan asked smiling at her friend.

"I do" everyone erupted in to cheers and beth and April hugged.

"I'm telling you hot brunettes in red dress always win" she whispered letting April have the stage and was greeted by klaus.

"I guess your endorsement went along way" klaus smiled as he and Bethan walked the grounds laughing a joking.

"I never answered you question" klaus stated and Bethan gave him a confused look.

"about being human. Once, I was on a trek through the Andes, and a hummingbird flew up to me. It just hovered there staring at me. It's tiny heart was pattering like a machine gun and I just thought what a thing, you know to have to work that hard every day just to stay alive. To be constantly on the verge of death and how satisfying ever day must be that it survived and that moment was the only time I thought about being human " klaus confessed Bethan smiled at his story of human it was and that simply moment.

"What about you" Klaus asked Bethan.

"I already am human" the teen giggled at the hybrids question.

"I mean has there ever been a moment you wished you was a vampire?" Bethan gulped she let out a shaker breath.

"I've felt broke a lot in my life. That I was never good enough that's something I live with every single day, the pain of never knowing my mom, Tyler cheating on me, my dad giving his life for Elena yet couldn't remember my birthday it wasn't until the night human Alaric died that I wish I could turn my emotions off. He was the first person to ever really care about me that's the only time I wished to be a vampire" Bethan confessed.

"Bethan I-" she cut klaus off raising her hand to stop him.

"don't give your pity okay? I've spent my entire life receiving those looks off everyone" klaus pushed a piece of her hair behind her ear .

"now you listen to me, the day we met you slapped, 3 times in all my years no one has ever had that much courage to do something like that. You don't hide behind your vampire friends, the main difference between the two of you is that you are no damsel Bethan" there was one thing Bethan couldn't deny and that was klaus saw her, for who she truly was.

"You are really good for my ego" she laughed throwing her head back.

After the pageant Caroline, Beth and Stefan we're talking about their shitty lives.

"You can't stop searching for the cure" Bethan told him taking a sip out of the bottle of bourbon.

"like klaus would let me" he reminded the girls rolling his eyes.

"why does he care some much" Caroline asked her friends.
