Chapter 12

Ding dong, the witch isn't dead?

Bethan felt at peace one again in the world as she was back in charge of the decade dance.

"ew that's vile, That's so tacky" she commented on things as she tried to get the gym in some sort of order.

"I swear Rebekah has worse taste than you" bethan stated earning a shove from her sister.

"what are you doing?" She yelled at Matt and Jeremy who she had forced to help out.

"you can't just hang them anywhere they're suppose to trickle" she informed them, Matt hit Jeremy's arm laughing.

"yeah dude trickle" joking about Bethan's response making the shortest Gilbert roll eyes.

"Awe look st them all bromancey" Caroline smiled causing Bethan to laugh.

"yeah matt's really helping him readjust, he even got him his job back at the grill" Elena told the blonde vampire smiling at the fact Jeremy was back.

"that was nice of him" Caroline commented.

"Jeremy has a lot on his mind really stressed out over the ric thing" Elena informed her.

"are you sure it has nothing to do with seeing yours and Damon steamy make out session?" Bethan teased her sister winking at her.

"I didn't tell you that so you could torcher me with it" Elena slightly smiled.

"erm we are your best friends it's our duty to" Caroline commented causing all three to laugh.

"so who are you bringing to the dance?" The blonde vampire question wiggling her eyebrows.

"what do you mean I though me you Beth and Bonnie were all going as girl dates" the doppelgänger asked wrapping a feather bower around her neck.

"Bonnie has a date with her step brother it's a total clueless moment" that's when Bethan spotted something wrong.

"Excuse me" she smiled going to scream at the freshman.

The Gilbert girls where getting ready for the decade dance.

"so you asked Stefan?" Bethan exclaimed furiously at her sister.

"that's just great you're going with Stefan, Caroline is ditching to spend time with Tyler, Bonnie is going with her brother-" Elena cut Bethan off her rant.

"it's not her brother" she laughed getting worried how her sister didn't find it funny.

"it doesn't matter you all have dates and I'm gonna be the loser who shows up on her own" she groaned as Elena twisted her hair up .

"you could always ask klaus" the elder sister teased earning a glare from bethan.

"Oh yeah and while I'm at it I'll call Katherine and see if she wants to come and have a threesome" the youngest Gilbert over exaggerated.

"Besides When has Bethan Gilbert ever need a date, your normal wasted by 11 and Crowned Queen" Elena pointed out making the small brunette roll her green eyes.

"there's no crowing at the decade dance" the green eyed girl added causing Elena to roll her eyes.

"Where did you even get these dresses anyway?" Elena questioned looking down at their dresses, they seemed to be quite expensive and not costume dresses.

"I found them in one of the old wardrobes in the Salvatore boarding house when I was snooping about, cute aren't they?" Bethan winked giving her sister a twirl.

"very" that's when the door bell went.

Both Gilbert's headed down stairs Elena opened the door revealing stefan the two of them began their terrible flirting.

"god will You to Just go and have sex already we are going to be late" Bethan stated pushing past the vampire into his car.

"your sister is such a delight" stefan commented watching the small brunette bounce away.

"oh you have no idea" the two laughed heading after her.

Bethan headed straight for Caroline

"oh my god you look gorgeous" she complemented her blonde best friend.

"why think you I do try" a deep masculine voice spoke, Bethan looked under the hat and seen it was Tyler.

"Oh my god what are you doing here?" Beth exclaimed hugging the hybrid Tyler lifted her up spinning her around.

"I missed you obviously" causing the Gilbert to laugh st his sarcasm.

"Hey matt" the small brunette smiled hoping there wouldn't be any awkwardness.

"hey Beth you look gorgeous" the quarterback smiled back. The four friends laughed as they attempted the 20s dance moves and failed. That's when the it turned into a slow song.

"May I have this dance" Matt asked the stunning girl in front of him. Caroline was jumping up and down seeing her two friends.

"Is that your sister dancing with stefan I thought she was with Damon right now?" Matt questioned seeing the two dancing together.

"I honestly have no idea the whole thing hurts my head more than math" causing a chuckle to leave matt's mouth.

"Uh oh" Bethan stated seeing a person she dreaded.

"what is it?" Matt asked and all the girl did was point at the event happening now. The two teens watched at klaus approached Tyler and Caroline as they danced, neither one of the two had supernatural hearing, even with Bethan's new found senses she couldnt make out what they where saying, all the brunette knew was it wasn't good.

"go" matt told her causing her to give the blonde haired buss boy a confused look.

"go step in and save your best friend" Bethan smiled at how well Matt knew her, she leaned up kissing Matt's cheek and she headed off to play Wonder Woman. Bethan approached the awkward conversation.

"Hey klaus dance with me" she stated grabbing the hybrids hand as she pulled him away from her best friend. Klaus' arm wrapped around her waist as the other held her hand dancing close to the 17 year old.

"You would have loved the 1920s Bethan the girls where reckless, sexy and fun" klaus told the teen.

"they use to dance until they dropped" he stated smiling as he spun the two of them around causing Bethan to let out a fake laugh.

"I don't suppose that ever happened to their dance partners?" She asked the hybrid who then became quite angry at the Gilbert girl.

"You should be nicer to me I'm leaving town tomorrow" he confessed causing Beth to lean back a bit sending the original a confused look.

"I'd invite you to come with me but we both know your not ready to accept my offer, perhaps one day, in a year or even in a decade. You'll turn up at my door and let me show you what the world has on offer" the two now had their eyes locked together and Bethan began to feel her self leaning in being swept up by klaus' words before she left out a fake "Ha" klaus' subtle smile turned back into a scowl

"Mark my words this small town girl act you portray won't last long, a small town boy, small town life it won't be enough for you and when you realise that you'll come and find me" klaus looked deep into the brunette's eyes planting a small kiss on her cheek before leaving her alone on the dance floor unsure what to do.

The newest dilemma on the agenda was the fact Ester was back and had taken Elena, Bethan grabbed on of the guns from Alarics secret stash in the school and stormed into the class room where Bonnie, Klaus, Jeremy, Matt and the Salvatores where.

"I'm going to get Elena back who's coming" she announced to the group.

"You are so not going out there" Damon told her coming stand in front of the teen.

"I'm not Elena, I'm not some damsel in distress that needs a Salvatore to save her" she told the brothers, Bethan then turned to Jeremy and Matt.

"let's go on a witch hunt" she smirked cocking the gun so the empty shell fell out of the barrel. The three humans left the high school and headed to the crypt Ester was held up in, the witch left Elena inside when she came across matt

"don't moved" she warned her that's when the youngest Gilbert appeared

"where's Elena?" Jeremy spoke glaring at the witch.

"how foolish of you to come here alone" Ester mocked them looking at the two humans.

"they're not alone" that's when Bethan revealed her self as she shot a bullet into esthers arm.

"your the third mikaelson to ruin my dance, you could say I'm royal pissed" she finished in a skit of a english accent.

"you come here to die for those who would kill you, very well if that is your wish" Esther used her magic to point matts gun at Jeremy taking full control of the two.

"Esther stop" Elena yelled when suddenly she fell to the floor and Alaric appeared.

"Hey guys where my ring" the four teens looked down as their favourite teacher began to bleed.

Bethan and Jeremy walked into the tomb ric and Elena sat in.

"Damon's here and klaus took esthers body" Beth informed the two tears staining her face.

"Do they know?" Elena asked her younger siblings.

"only that Esther tried to turn him into s weapon and failed" Jeremy answered. Alaric looked at Elena, the Bethan and finally Jeremy.

"Bethan, Jeremy I'm not going to complete the transition" Alaric confessed making the teens snap their heads.

"what?" Jeremy asked as tears pricked Bethan's eyes she began shaking her head.

"my dark side is dangerous enough as a human I can't be a vampire" ric explained Elena then grabbed one of her sisters hands.

"so what we just lock you in here to die, no we can't" Jeremy began to yell at this point bethan was a crying mess.

""it's the right thing to do after everything that's happened all that I've done, maybe I had it coming" Alaric whispered the last part Jeremy went to storm off

"hey wait" ric called after him making the youngest Gilbert stop.

"don't give me some crap speech about how I need to be the man of the house" Jeremy warned him, eyes brimming with tears.

"don't worry I won't" ric promised as he pulled the teen in for a hug.

"besides they probably wouldn't listen to you anyway" ric joked making Jeremy laugh and he left. Alaric then turned to the eldest Gilbert sibling

"this is all my fault, you moved out, you gave me the ring back, you didn't want any part of this and I made you come back and take care of us" Elena cried making ric Shake his head.

"don't do that okay?" Ric started smiling slightly as Elena.

"taking care of you Jeremy and even Bethan has been the closet thing to life I ever wanted" he told her, Elena came over and hugged him before leaving Bethan and Alaric to say good bye.

"This can't be happening, who's gonna yell at me for drinking coffee at 2 am, or give me some lecture on why history is important. Who's gonna stop me and Elena from killing each other" Bethan completely broke down falling to the floor.

"hey hey hey" ric whispered pulling her into a hug.

"I already lost one father this year I'm not ready to loose you. Who's gonna be there to see me graduate" she admitted burying her head into his chest, Alaric pulled away and wiped Beth's tears.

"Bethan you are everything I ever wanted in a daughter your strong, confident and independent. you have the whole world at your feet, you don't need me to help you concur it" the vampire hunter told her causing more tears to fall.

"now promise me you'll take over your brother and sister and that you won't try and kill each other Okay" he asked but all the Gilbert girl could do was nod.

"I love you bethan" Alaric kissed the top of her forehead.

"I love you to... dad" Ric's heart swelled hearing the name slip from the brunettes lips. the two shared one last hug before Bethan left the tomb leaving Damon to come and say goodbye

The three Gilbert siblings went about this heartbreaking event in three different ways, Jeremy sat in the grill drowning his sorrows with Matt as the toasted to Alaric, Elena went back to the school and obsessively started to clean out Alarics class room as Stefan tried to stop her but it resulted in her to only become more frantic. Bethan turned to rage she went back to ric's apartment and began to trash the place, screaming and crying.
