Chapter 6

Goodbyes are hard

Bethan was in a foul mood created by her sister who's forcing her brother to leave town, she decided to spend the morning infront of the falls catching that moment the sun raises to hit the water making everything twinkle, she loved to capture that moment in her sketch book that's when her phone rang.

B. Hey what's up

M. It's Caroline's Birthday we are decorating her locker

B. Crap i lost track of time I'll be there in 13 minutes Matt

Bethan grabbed her things and bolted to school unknowingly leaving her sketch book on the ground for a certain blue eyed original hybrid to find. At school Elena and Matt where decorating Caroline's locker and Bethan stuck right in not speaking a word to her sister.

"Bonnie hey" Elena smiled

"hey sorry I'm late but I brought the sign" the witch smiled holding up a purple sign reading happy birthday Caroline "

"what go you running late?" Beth asked her friend.

"couldn't sleep" Bethan knew she was lying but left it at that

"well I've got something to tell you and your not going to like it" Elena confessed

"what is it?" Bonnie question turning to fade Elena.

"Elena got Damon go compel Jeremy to leave town for good" Beth informed the teen witch, that's when the bell rang for first period

"good luck explaining sis" Bethan gave Elena a snide smile heading off to her class of the day.

The end of the day came and Caroline had blown off school causing Beth, Matt, Bonnie and Elena to head to her house for birthday plan two. The four friends hid waiting for Caroline to come home

"surprise" they yelled startling the blonde vampire

"what are you guys doing here?" She asked smiling.

"You blew off our birthday work of art" Bethan told her best friend taking the crown off of her head placing it on the birthday girl.

"Dress in warmer clothes we are going to the falls, campfire, s'mores" Bonnie started.

"cake just like when we where little" Elena reminded her

"except with tequila" Matt added holding up the bottle.

"thanks you guys but I'm not really feeling my birthday this year" care told them.

"What you already claimed your birthday as everyone's favourite day of the year" Bonnie reminded her.

"you legit have a 100 day reminder in my phone" Bethan added.

"yeah but now it's just a reminder that I'm technically dead, look I didn't even like 17 and the whole point of 17 is to get to 18, I'm stuck in a filler year" she confessed feeling sorry for her self.

"your not stuck care" Matt told her

"I am and that's okay I just need time to get over it" she stated smiling at her friends.

"well then I have another idea" the doppelgänger told the group.

"Okay this is creepy even for us weirdos" Bethan stated as the entered one of the crypts.

"Caroline was right she doesn't need a birthday she needs a funeral to say goodbye to her old life" Elena explained and everyone smiled

"her lies Caroline Forbes" Caroline started.

"cheerleader, miss mystic falls-". Bethan interrupted her sister

"co miss mystic falls" causing Caroline to roll her eyes laughing.

"co miss mystic falls, 3rd grade hop scotch champion" Elena finished.

"friend, daughter over achiever" Bonnie added

"mean girl- sometimes" Matt stated holding up his hands.

"queen of gossip, my partner in crime, she was 17 and she had a really good life so rest in peace so that she can move forward" Bethan finished holding her best friends hand, Elena brought the cake over.

"Bonnie?" Elena asked and the Bennett witch closed her eyes lighting the candles.

"make a wish" Bethan smiled and they all watched as the newly turned vampire blew out her candles. The gang where drinking the bottle of tequila laughing about old times when Elena noticed Caroline was unusually quiet.

"Caroline what are you doing?" Elena questioned.

"what nothing" the blonde lied holding up her hands up.

"well your a bad sober liar and a even worse drunk liar" Elena reminded her.

"I might of texted Tyler" she confessed feeling guilty.

"Caroline" the doppelgänger judged.

"what I'm delicate" she reminded them.

"give her a break you can't control what everyone does all the time" Bonnie stated and Bethan nodded in agreement.

"yeah I mean Caroline is lucky she a vampire so Damon cant compel her" Bethan added taking another swig to tequila.

"ouch guys" Matt commented

"sorry I know it's Caroline birthday funeral but I just think it's wrong you compelled Jeremy to leave town" Bonnie admitted, apologising to the blonde vampire.

"I'm giving him a chance at a halfway normal life" Elena tried to defend her self.

"he should be able to choose Elena, it's his life and you took his choice away" Bonnie argued crossing her arms across her chest.

"Bonnie you can't tell him" Elena ordered.

"why you gonna compel me not to" the teen witch sassed.

"Okay that's enough, Elena Im not taking to you right now and Bonnie im all for what your saying and my 'Sister' is being a total bitch right now but we need to put that aside so we can celebrate the life that is my beautiful blonde best friend" Bethan Warned them causing Elena to roll her eyes.

"you know I think I'm just gonna go" Bonnie announced.

"happy birthday Caroline" Bonnie smiled before leaving. Elena went off somewhere to leaving Beth Caroline and Matt. The three friends where laughing when Tyler came in.

"I didn't mean to crash the party" he apologised Matt stood up defensively in front of the girls.

"so dont" Matt told him blocking his view.

"no it's okay.. hi" Caroline smiled at tyler.

"can I talk for you asec it's kinda important" Tyler asked and Caroline nodded going with the hybrid.

"Are you okay?" Bethan asked her friend she knew it was hard to see your ex with your friend.

"yeah I just want her to be happy, I want you all to be happy in the middle of this crazy life you got stuck with" Matt admitted making Bethan smile.

"well it's not like my life had been normal since day one" the brunette stated causing the other human to laugh.

"can I tell you something and I mean it Matt is has to go in the vault" Bethan told him

"I swear" the blue eyes boy replied placing a hand on his heart.

"after since I came back to town I've noticed something, my temper is worse, my hearing and eye sight has inproved, not to mention the first day back after stefan came back he had his hands one on Elena's forearm and I was able to pry it off with ease Matt I'm scared" Bethan confessed a secret she had been holding on to. Matt grabbed onto her hands.

"hey you are going to be fine Okay your Bethan Gilbert the strongest girl I know, you've been through more than anyone and you always come out strong" he told his friend causing her to smile.

"I have another secret, I had the biggest crush on you in middle school" the green eyed girl bit her lip looking down. Matt lifted the brunettes chin up so her eyes met his blue sparkling ones. They both began to lean in and Bethan made the leap pushing her lips on to matt's she quickly pulled away only for Matt to crash his lips into hers.

Their lips moulded together as they fought for dominance until she let Matt win. Both pulled away giggling slightly.

"We should probably go find Caroline" Bethan said smiling at the teenage boy across from her.

"Yeah you right" Matt helped Bethan up, pecking her lips one more time.

"Matt, I don't want to rush this, you're one of my best friends I'd hate to loose you" she gripped on his hand.

"What ever you need Bethan" he smiled at her.

The two teens started their search for their friend, when the found Caroline collapsed on the floor.

"we need to get her home" Beth stated and Matt picked the blonde up bridal style as they headed for the sheriffs house.

"sheriff forbes" Matt yelled as Bethan swung the door open.

"what happened?" The concerned mother asked running to her daughter.

"Tyler bit her" Beth replied as Matt placed the injured vampire on her bed and Beth sat next to her squeezing her hand.

"I know what I had to do" liz told the teens leaving them alone with her daughter.

"Caroline your gonna be fine Okay, I swear to god I'm not letting die" Caroline smiled at her best friend.

"there's the Beth I know and love" she squeezed the brunettes hand. Sometime later klaus walked in.

"are you going to kill me?" Caroline asked causing Bethan to take a protective stance.

"he'd have to go through me first" Beth growled moving to Stand up arms across her chest.

"kill you on your birthday do you really think that low of me?" Klaus asked the blonde his voice softening.

"yes" she replied and klaus moved the blanket off of the vampires neck.

"my apologies your what's known as collateral damage" the hybrid admitted seeing the bite on her neck.

"that's it! are you going to save her or what? Or do I have to find some way to get your blood with or without your consent because I'm not letting you take her away from me" tears ran down Bethan's face and klaus couldn't help but want to wipe them away.

"the choice is yours love" klaus said looking at Caroline.

"I don't want to die" she admitted and klaus gave her his blood. After the bite wound had healed Beth pulled the blanket back over her friend.

"get some rest okay?" She told Caroline kissing her forehead before leaving her to sleep.

The Gilbert girl sat on the front steps of the Forbes house hold waiting for ric to come pick her up.

"I love birthdays" a british voice stated startling the girl.

"aren't you like a billion or something" Bethan laughed as klaus came to sit next to her.

"you have to adjust your perspective of time when your a vampire Bethan. Celebrate how you're no longer bond by human conventionals, you are free" klaus told the girl making her roll her eyes.

"Must be nice, to have a birthday I mean I have one it's not my actually one it's the day I was dropped on my dads door step the day It became that I don't matter, my mom and dad didn't want me, people in this town saw me as the scum they stood in, I'm probably gonna die in this town" Bethan admitted looking out at the front yard where she played most the time.

"is that what you want? To die in this town? Because I could make it happen if you want, if you really believe your life has so little meaning, to be honest I've thought about it my self once or twice over the centuries, but I'm going to let you in on a secret Bethan there is a whole wide world out their just waiting for you, great cities filled with amazing art and music, genuine beauty and you can have all of it, you can spend your birthday in a different city every year all you have to do is want it" klaus told the girl.

"I want that more than anything to attend acropolis museum, see the Mona Lisa first hand, paint the sunrise on the english Moors. I can't even afford to pay for a community college let alone trips around the world." She confessed to the hybrid a day dream look on her face as she thought about it.

"well with talent like this I don't think it will be to long until your work hanging next to the Mona Lisa" klaus told her hand over the sketch book he found this morning.

"I've been around a thousand years Bethan and you can't teach someone talent like that and you sure shouldn't waste it" he informed the young girl, Bethan looked down at her drawing from this morning when a car horn blared and breeze came to her.

Ric pulled the car up allowing Bethan to get out and Jeremy get in to start his new life, she hugged Jeremy while all her strength.

"You better call me every week okay? To discuss what happeneds in prison break and you tell any new little girlfriends that I will kick their ass if they hurt you" she warned him holding on to Jeremy for dear life.

"okay okay I will, you don't need to worry, I love you Beth" Jeremy told his none biological sister.

"I love you to kid" she smiled watching him drive off to his new life. Bethan sat on her bed sketching the picture she had done over and over of what she thought her mother would look like, when she heard a knock on her window, she walked over finding no one there but a small black velvet box with a small note attached.

Bethan opened the box to reveal a gorgeous diamond bracelet leaving her smiling to her self.
