《Mindlessly Wandering (Shinso x Reader)》Chapter 16

I stood infront of the mirror in my bedroom, staring at the new clothes on my body. I was in my new school uniform that was, of course, too big for my malnourished body.

What will everyone else think...what will they say and do?

Thinking about these things made me nervous...I was more nervous because it was the very first day of school. New Kids, new teachers, a whole new different way of learning. It wasn't just the basics now, it was also learning how to better our quirks.

I...I don't like my quirks...

Well, I do like my mom's...but I don't want to even think about the other...

I held my bag tightly to my chest and made my way to the living room. Since Aizawa was a teacher, we had to leave earlier for prep hour.

"Ready to go?" He asked, and I nodded my head, "Nervous?"

Again, I nodded my head but more hesitantly.

"You'll be okay, I promise." Aizawa said and handed me a small pastry.

I was pretty sure it was a muffin. We both walked out into the crisp morning air and to his car.

The car ride was mostly silent, but it was comfortable...for Aizawa, not so much for me. I was feeling super scared and anxious for today, and I didn't even know why.

I followed him out of the car and walked behind him into the building. Aizawa held the door open for me and I silently thanked him.

"Goodmorning Aizawa, and (y/n)!" A creature that looked like a mouse spoke.

"Goodmorning Principle Nezu."

I nodded my head towards the mouse like person and continued following Aizawa.

Wait...Principle?

"Goodmorning Aizawa!" A loud voice greeted.

"Morning Hizashi." Aizawa answered tiredly.

Oh that's right...

Hizashi gasped and ran right up to me.

"Goodmorning (y/n)! Did you miss me?"

Not knowing how to answer, I smiled nervously and nodded my head, causing him to smile widely.

"Just let me know if you ever need anything! I'll take care of you, I promise!"

"Okay, that's enough, come on (y/n)." Aizawa interrupted. I quickly followed behind him.

"Have a good day!" Hizachi shouted.

He's loud...

We finally made it to the classroom, which was Class 1-A and Aizawa opened the door, letting me walk inside.

"Alright, it looks like you sit over there." Aizawa pointed to a seat that was closer to the back and to the left side of the room.

I went and sat down, and did nothing for the whole prep hour.

I miss Shinso...

In all honesty, I did. He made things...interesting, and made me feel like I mattered. Of course Aizawa did too, but it was different with him.

One by one, students started filing in and finding there seats. I sat behind a kid named Midoriya.

All of a sudden, a very loud, and rude kid burst in through the door screaming. I threw my hands to my hears and put my head down on my desk.

I don't like him...

He plopped himself down in the seat infront of Midoriya. Seeing him sit so leisurely made me feel uneasy.

Soon enough, a cute girl with short brown hair entered with a nervous green haired boy. When the loud one noticed the green haired boy, he started yelling uncontrollably.

Please stop.

Everyone was now staring at the two, the air was awkward and made us all want to not be here.

Aizawa then entered in a weird yellow sleeping bag?

What is going on?

Aizawa broke up the fight and then started class. He began explaining an extra test of our quirks, saying the person with the lowest score will be expelled.

This of course made several students freak out, but I knew it wasn't going to turn out that way. He already explained to me it wasn't true and it wouldn't matter.

We all gathered outside and prepared for the first task which was throwing a ball.

I'm not very strong...

We went in class order, which meant I was 19th in line. I had quite the wait.

There were some kids who were really amazing. I really liked it when the brown haired girl, I found out her name was Uraraka, was able to throw it an infinite distance.

I didn't like it when the loud boy, Bakugo, threw his. His quirk was loud and scary.

Midoriya's quirk was stopped by Aizawa and he went of on a lecture about how Midoriya is a menace to his own body. Then, he ended up focusing all the energy into one finger and beat Bakugo by a little tiny bit, making Bakugo livid.

Yeah, I really don't like him.

My turn was nothing special, I could throw as far as an average person. Well, a little under that, but it was to be expected. I'm nothing special.

After that, we had timed runs. I was actually a little bit faster than most kids who didn't have quirks suited to this part if the test, so that was nice.

The other tests were just an average P.E. test.

All in all, I did average. Aizawa gathered all of us around, and we looked at our names. I was somewhere in the middle, closer to the end which wasn't ideal, but it was better than at the bottom.

Midoriya was internally panicking and I just watched him awkwardly.

Yaoyorozu spoke up explaining it wasn't true about the expulsion and everyone reacted differently. Some more upset than others, and some relieved.

We all went back inside as it would be lunch break soon. Aizawa let us have the rest of the period to ourselves, everyone was talking amongst themselves and to there newfound friends.

I just sat there doing nothing.

"Hey, you're (y/n), right?"

I looked up and noticed that Uraraka was speaking to me. Surprised, I nodded my head.

"It's nice to meet you! I'm Uraraka, this is Deku, and this is Iida! You can hangout with us if you'd like!" She offered.

I can...?

...

No, I'd probably just bother them...

I just smiled at them and Midoriya called out saying that they should probably head out. Uraraka quickly ran after them saying "wait for me!" Leaving my by myself once again.

"Better get out there kid, it's pretty squished in there. I packed you a lunch so you won't have to wait in line though." Aizawa said handing me a small paper bag.

"Thank you..." I said and headed towards the door.

"And (y/n)," Aizawa called, causing me to look back, "Just be yourself and try to make some friends, okay?"

I nodded my head and followed the flow of students to the cafeteria. Aizawa was right, it really was packed...

I looked around for a seat, but they were filled with students who had already made friends.

I can't just barge in on them...

That was when I noticed Shinso sitting at a table not to far from me. Feeling like it was safe to sit over there with him, I walked over.

But then I noticed he had friends of his own...I swiftly turned the other way.

N..nevermind...

"(Y/n)!" Shinso called out, "Come sit!" He invited, I turned around with a smile and shook my head...walking away.

I'm such a...I can't believe I almost imposed on him and his friends...

I found myself wandering the hallways and up the stairs until I found the door that led to the roof. The air was warm, and the breeze felt nice blowing through my hair.

I set my lunch down and walked to the edge which was blocked by a chain linked fence. The view made me feel calm...but when I looked down, I felt the urge to jump.

Feeling a little bit frightened with that thought, I stepped back and felt myself bump into someone.

"Ah, sorry..." I said turning and bowing.

"Haha, it's no biggie...my fault really.." Shinso's voice rung out.

Confused, I looked up at him.

Why is he here?

"Why'd you run off like that? Were you nervous about sitting with me?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"Was it the fact other people were sitting there?"

Hesitantly, I nodded my head and Shinso just chuckled.

"Sorry about that, I promise they're super nice. They even wanted to meet you."

"They did?" I asked quietly.

"Mhm, but, I kind of like it up here more than down in that cafeteria. So many people. How 'bout I eat up here with you?" He asked pulling out a paper bag, just like mine, "I figured lunch rush would be...well...a rush, and so I brought one today." He explained.

I do want to eat with him...but I feel bad taking him away from his friends...

"It's okay...I can eat on my own. Go sit with your friends." I smiled.

Shinso looked at me for a moment and said nothing.

"You know, you were my friend before anyone else down there. So it's almost like an obligation that I have to sit next to you. No, not even an obligation. (Y/n), it's my choice to sit next to you." Shinso smiled.

"Are you sure...? Those other kids looked like way more fun than me..."

"I'm positive. C'mon." He smiled again and grabbed my by the wrist.

We were now sitting up against the chain linked fence, eating out lunches in a comfortable silence. Shinso made comments here and there, and even talked about how his day was going.

He'd ask me how mine was and even though my answers were short, he would still genuinely listen and respond to them.

"Wow, that Bakugo kid sounds like a handful...if he ever makes you feel threatened let me know and I'll beat him up for you." He laughed, causing me to smile.

I was feeling much better after talking to Shinso, and hoped we could do this again tomorrow.

You know...school isn't all that bad...
