《Mindlessly Wandering (Shinso x Reader)》Chapter 10

I really couldn't sleep last night, my head was wandering about what Shinso had said about my quirk.

He was...angry with me for using it on him. Upset that it hurt me instead.

No one has ever told me that using my healing quirk is bad except for Aizawa. My dad has forced me to use it along with my disintegration quirk.

Is it really so bad that I get hurt to help others?

Shinso stirred in his sleep beside me, causing the blanket to go more on his side. Feeling cold, I moved slightly closer to him in order have some warmth.

I turned on my side so I could study him. His hair looks so soft, I want to run my fingers through it...but I shouldn't.

He looked so tired when I first met him, and he looked tired today too...I wonder if he sleeps enough.

His face was towards me, so that gave me time to really take in his features.

You know...he looks really gentle when he's asleep. When he's awake, he's kind of intimidating because of his piercing gaze, but now looking at him he seems more like an approachable person.

I knew that wasn't the case with Shinso at all though. Even with his intimidating gaze, he's super kind, and he has big ambitions. He even made me dinner when I wasn't going to have anything.

He helped me forget about what was bothering me by building the blanket fort.

I just know you'll become a great hero one day...

Shinso's eyes peeked open just a bit, he mumbled something and then grabbed my hand.

Something...was making my heart race, and my face heat up. The warmth of Shinso's hand on mjne...but made me feel something.

Why did he grab my hand?

My eyes grew heavy as I finally let them shut and allow myself to fall into sleep.

. . .

Light shone in my eyes, causing me to wake up. However, I didn't want to wake up so I kept my eyes closed.

I attempted to readjust my body, but wasn't able to so I ignored it and tried to get comfy.

"Ahem." A gruff voice cleared. I opened my eyes to see a snuggled up (y/n) in my arms fast asleep.

My face immediately turned red as I turned my widened eyes towards the voice.

My heart dropped and my nervousness spiked. Aizawa was standing there with his arms crossed and an irritated look on his face.

"G-goodmorning sir." I said quietly in order to not wake (y/n) up who was still laying her head against my chest.

"I gave you a simple rule to not try anything. Yet here you are snuggling with (y/n)." He said in a clearly upset tone.

I looked between Aizawa and (y/n) as I tried to explain...but I'm not exactly sure how it happened either.

"You've got some explaining to do kid." He said tapping his foot.

With great care and patience, I removed myself from (y/n) without waking her up and was now sitting on my knees in front of Aizawa who had the most scary glare.

He was sitting on one of the stools in the kitchen sipping his coffee looking like he was ready to end my life.

I swallowed thickly and moved my gaze down.

"So, why were you hugging (y/n) in a cramped space?" He questioned.

My shoulders aggressively tensed up in front of my idol as I tried to come up with the best explanation.

I have no idea! I swear we were on opposite sides all night!

"I..well...the s-storm was scaring her...so I suggested we make a blanket fort in order to take her mind off of it.." I trailed nervously.

"That still doesn't explain how I found you two this morning."

I looked back into Aizawa's eyes and felt even more intimidated as he stared me down. If looks could kill..

"When it was-"

"Speak up."

"When it was time to clean up and go to bed, it had looked like the thoughts came back...and so I asked if she wanted to sleep in the fort and she said yes."

"Continue." Aizawa pried.

"We were on opposite sides and I fell asleep pretty quickly. I have no idea how we ended up like that I swear." I said making eye contact with him.

Aizawa sipped his coffee and leaned back.

"Well, you're not lying to me so I guess I can let you off with a warning." He mumbled.

"How could you tell?" I asked genuinely curious.

His eyes traveled back to mine surprised that I asked that question. He set his mug down and placed his elbows on his knees.

"Eye contact. Most of the time when people are lying, they'll avert their gaze right when it's needed or when they need to tell the truth. I needed an explanation on how you ended up with (y/n), and when the time came down...you were able to make eye contact with me."

I made a mental note on that. Asking questions will take me one step closer to becoming a hero.

"I see...thank you for telling me." I said.

"Shinso Hitoshi, right?" Aizawa asked and I nodded my head, "If I remember correctly your quirk is brainwash. Meaning the physical exam wasn't your best in showing it." He trailed.

I nodded my head and thought back to during the physical exam. I remembered how frustrated I felt because I couldn't do anything.

"Yeah..I don't think I made it into the hero course." I said feeling kind of upset over it.

I was really hoping to make it into that class, but the damn way they do the physical exam wasn't fair to those who's quirk only works on people. Not everyone has flashy quirks.

The sound of feet shuffling across the floor towards us filled my ears and I turned my head abruptly to see (y/n) rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"Aizawa, you're back?" She asked tiredly.

I felt my face flush as I realized she didn't know where she was this morning.

"Good morning kid, did you sleep okay?" Aizawa asked with a soft voice.

Even though she's not his real kid, he still shows such kindness to her...

"Yeah, when did you get back?" She asked quietly.

Aizawa glanced at me, and then back at the small girl beside me.

"A couple minutes ago, I'm sorry if we woke you up. Why don't you go and wash up and I'll make breakfast?" He said.

(Y/n) nodded her head and made her way to the washroom. Aizawa released a sigh and rubbed his eyes.

"I know it's not my place to ask...but I couldn't help but wonder if she was Cataclysmic's daughter?" I asked quietly.

Aizawa looked at me for a moment, then stood up.

"Help me clean this up real quick." He said motioning me to the fort.

. . .

I had noticed the storm died down when we finished up. Aizawa had put the couch back together and told me to sit.

"Now I won't go telling the whole story because I don't know how much (y/n) actually wants you to know, but I'll tell you why I've taken her in." He started.

I waited patiently for him to continue.

"I'm only telling you this because I can tell she's taken a liking to you for whatever reason."

My eyes widened when he finished that sentence. Why would she take a liking to me?

"Long story short, (y/n) had to be removed from her biological household for reasons she'll have to tell you if she wants. I took her in because she didn't have any other family to go to and being in foster care isn't what she needed. As a hero, I saw her as someone who needed to be saved and I was the only one willing to do that." He briefly explained.

Hearing that only fed my curiosity, millions of thoughts raced through my head at what could've happened and they didn't stop.

My respect for Eraserhead went through the roof for taking a kid in when she needed it. That must've turned his life upside down.

"I feel that my biggest purpose in life now is to give (y/n) a second chance at living again and bring back the light into her eyes. I think you've probably noticed she doesn't show much emotion, or anything at all. And I want to help give that back to her..." He breathed, "No kid should ever have to go through what she did." He finished.

I thought back for a second, yeah she didn't show much emotion, but last night she did.

"But...last night I could see she did have emotions. She didn't express them through her mouth or verbally, but whenever I suggested something to help her I swear I could see the smallest hint of happiness in her eyes..." I trailed.

"I've seen that too...but that's still not good enough. And I plan to do my best. I'd like you to be (y/n)'s friend, at school she probably won't talk to a lot of people as she's closed off and gets nervous easily. But she'll talk to you, so if possible, I'd like you to be her hero as well." Aizawa said.

My heart began racing at the thought.

Be her hero...

This was my chance to prove that I can be a hero...that I don't have to be a villain.

I felt myself smile, my idol wants me to help him save someone...and he believes in me.

I'll gladly help her then...
