《Red Feather (Hawks x Reader)》The wise rabbit that could snap me in half

The car ride was leaving me in suspense. I was going to Mirko's party as Hawks's plus one. I couldn't wait to see how I would fuck myself over on this one. But that got me thinking, why am I going? Why did Hawks invite me? We've known each other for such a short time and met, like, three times. Why did he ask me?
I looked over at him to try to see what he was up to, we'd been silent for the last twenty minutes. He seemed to not sense my apprehension because he had his arm resting on the closed window ledge and his body was relaxed. He was staring out the window with something of a dreamy smile on his face. Not wanting to get caught staring again, I looked out of my own window.
"You may think I'm not paying attention kid, but I got eyes on my wings. They know what you're doing. Now, you've been picking at your fingers for a while. What's on your mind?"
"Oh. Well... To be honest, I kind of want to know what made you asked me to come? It just doesn't make sense to me."
"Oh? How so?" He said to the window.
"Well, we've known each other for such a short time and one of the times we both ended up bleeding all over my apartment. I just think it's weird that you'd pick some random who was absolutely blasted the first time we met."
He hummed thoughtfully then turned to me. "Well, I didn't want to bring it up now, but I've known for a while that I might have a mole in my agency, and the night I got jumped confirmed it. So I need someone who could look for the mole."
"Yeah?"
"I could go with a UA student but they draw too much attention. I could go with a low-list hero, but they're... Well heroes so they wouldn't be trusted. So", he continued, "I need a random to be a personal spy."
"So... Are you asking if...", I trailer off, the insinuation clear.
"Well with a little bit of teaching, I need you to spy. Or another random if you don't want to." He looked at me with his blocked off eyes. All business.
Oh. Well. It's like that. I should've guessed.
"So the point to bringing me to this party?"
"Well", he said cheerfully, "I wanted you to meet a few heroes so you wouldn't be a wreck when you inevitably see them working with me. Also, because I think you're cute."
"I don't understand."
"That I think you're cute?" He playfully snickered.
"No, that you'd choose me. I- the first time you met me I was wasted. The second I was working a minimum wage salary at a low end store. Putting away sex toys. "
He chuckled. "Yeah that was a fun time."
"And the third, I almost shot you and didn't react fast enough to you being hurt! How am I at all qualified?"
He seemed amused by my antics. "Well you have heart. You have resolve, even when drunk. You also have a good heart, you're pretty damn sneaky too. If not for my feathers, I wouldn't have known you were around the corner with a Glock. You're pretty good about making sure things line up, you did cock the gun before coming in earshot. You're independent and hardworking. You'd have to be working 2 jobs and about to apply for a third-"

"How did you know that," I asked incredulously.
"You posted about it the day I met you. I gotta check out what my future secret spy is doing, yeah?"
I was shocked. He picked me apart. He was so observant that I'd place the rest of my bank account on the fact he probably knows my entire personality and toothbrush color.
"I... I guess so."
"And you have the poster. Normally, people don't betray their hero. Especially when they have a poster of said hero", he continued.
I flushed, annoyed he was right. He interrupted my sulking.
"So, are you in?"
I sat in silence for a little. "Can I give you an answer after the party?"
"Of course you can, sexy!" He said cheekily.
"Hey! You can't just-... Tch. Whatever."
The car slowed to a stop and when I looked out the window, I saw a brilliant house. It was large and just gorgeous.
"Wow... It's so big."
"Just like my-"
I elbowed him before he could finish his lewd statement. And he started laughing.
"I was going to say my feathers that are growing back", He said between laughs.
I chuckled along with him. The man who was driving us stepped out of the car to open the doors for us. Hawks dropped him cash and they exchanged words while I stared at the magnificent house. The gardens were beautiful and the lights illuminate the cherry blossoms.
He offered his elbow and a light blush graced my features as I hooked his arm with mine. We were walking slowly so I could look at the amazing sight.
"It's beautiful, yeah?"
"It's so pretty", I responded.
His head was facing forward but he was giving me the side eye with a soft smile. I looked at him and the eye contact made me chuckle.
"What? To stunned by my looks too?" He added with a cheeky smile.
I laughed a little more. "I guess that's part of it. I just- I'm walking with my favorite hero to a party with other major heroes. Not even a week ago I worked at Subway and Spencer's! It's just... Damn."
"Well, kiddo, I think that you'll have a good time. Do you dance?"
I gave a small laugh. "No, I cannot dance. I'm too awkward and I don't know what to do. I can sort of slow dance because it's easy but I can't do much else."
"Well, " He said with cheeky exclamation, "you might have to learn today!"
"Noooo Hawks I'll look stupid in front of the heroes..."
He knocked on the door, "Don't worry about that, cutie. You'll do fine."
A short powerful tan woman in a black dress opened the door. She was absolutely beautiful with a firm smile. Oh, and how could I forget the bunny ears and bunny tail.
"Hey Hawks! I didn't think you'd actually bring a plus one! Come in!"
I shrunk back at her confidence.
I don't belong here. Maybe I should say I'm pregnant and I have to leave because of the pain. That's so fucking stupid I don't have a baby bump! I could fake a call from a neighbor saying my apartment flooded? No, Hawks is quick as a whip. He would definitely know what's up.
Mirko led us along the hallway that opened into a big center room, maybe the size of my whole apartment. It was beautifully decorated and the floor clacked with each step.
"So what's your name", Mirko asked cheerfully.

"Oh, uh. My name is (f/n) (l/n). You're very pretty, it's really nice to meet you."
YOuRe veRy pReTty. Shut up oh my god please shut your fucking mouth.
"Wow (y/n)! Thanks! I'm sure Hawks is glad you can put up with his shit, he seemes to like you", she snickered.
I laughed sheepishly as Mirko elbowed Hawks hard. He started laughing and I enjoyed every moment of it.
"You know, you seem a little hoppy-go-lucky Mirko. You seem to be making a lot of celery- ", Hawks cleared his throat, "Salary."
She glared playfully and bumped him with her hip. "You're awfully cheeky. You better beak careful."
He smiled and cringed. "Alright alright you're gonna scare (y/n)." Hawks said.
"The coat closet is down there and the party is upstairs on the next floor. Now, this place is rented so don't get too crazy. I'll let my assistant man the doors and I'll meet you upstairs. Down the hallway to the left", Mirko was walking away.
"I hope they have chicken. I haven't eaten."
"Do you only eat chicken", I asked as I was opening the supposed jacket closet.
He chuckled and took off his suit jacket, leaving him in slacks, a bottom up, and a tie.
"Yeah pretty much. But in my defense, it's my favorite food and its good for you. Win win."
"So Mirko. She said this place is rented?"
"Well there isn't a job she's on right now so it's a little more nicer than where she normally stays. Since she doesn't belong to or own an agency, she just waits for an important call then when she gets to the place she's supposed to be at", he entered the large closet, putting his coat on a hanger, "she rents a hotel, takes care of it, then waits again at another hotel, usually nice like this.
"And since she's such a badass, they call her for big stuff leaving her to take care of petty crimes when she's bored. She asked for a three days off so she could host this thing. I think to keep up the spirits of other heroes."
He walked out of the closet and we headed to the stair case that Mirko bounced up earlier. He placed his hand on the small of my back while leading us up the stairs.
"I have a question for you (y/n)."
I turned my head as we walked up the sleek stairs. "Shoot."
"Do you know how distracting you are in that dress? You look absolutely beautiful", he played with the strap of my dress while smirking, "I might not be able to keep my eyes off you", he continued lowly.
I basically short circuited and an all too familiar heat met my cheeks softly. "Oh- uh. Thanks. You too. "
Wait a fucking minute. Please tell me I didn't just-
His seductive demeanor changed as he let out a small snort as his shoulders moved with quiet laughter.
"Im-", he started, "I'm glad you think I look pretty. I did it for you", he continued through snickers.
I turned red and tried to collect words to convey that that's not what I meant in a panic. "I- I didn't mean it like that! I just meant- well- You know what I'm trying to say Hawks!"
My rant did nothing to sooth his entertainment in my mess up. "It's fine it's fine. Are you ready?"
I looked at the door that held what sounded like forty-ish heroes on the other side.
He seemed to catch in that I was nervous and put an arm around my waist. Without warning he pushed open the doors and led me inside.
Even though everyone was dressed formally, there was a ping of playfulness in the air. Looking around I spotted a few heroes here and there that I recognized from the news and my calendar.
"I wanna see if they have any chicken", Hawks said.
Not wanting to be alone, I followed him. We both made a plate and holy hell the food was amazing.
I had some sushi, takoyaki, and yakiniku. Hawks had barbecued chicken on a skewer.
I stopped mid bite on my sushi and stared at the door as it opened in fear. Hawks stopped and smirked without even looking at the door.
"Is that-"
"Endeavor? I didn't think he'd show up. Want me to introduce you", He said mischievously.
"No! You can't- He's scary."
He did that cute face where he gave a cheeky smile and closed his eyes. "No way! Endeavor is a sweetheart. You'll love him."
He put his and my plate down then deployed a feather to guard it. He stole my hand and dragged me to the "6'3" Mountain of a man. "Endeavor-san! I didn't think a grump like you would be here. How's it going?"
I hid behind Hawks trying to pretend I wasn't here and trying to sneak away. Then I felt a firm hand on my waist pulling me flush with Hawks's side.
Endeavor gave both of us an annoyed up-down before answering in a gruff voice, "It's fine."
"Me too, thanks for asking. This is (y/n) by the way."
I gave a small respect nod.
"Hello", The giant man responded curtly, the giant scar in his face rippling.
I pinched Hawks's side softly as revenge for shoving me in this situation. He pinched me back and bid goodbye to the extinguished hero (get it?), walking us to our abandoned plates.
"He's great isn't he?"
"You said you'd keep me out of awkward situations! Not force me in them! What the hell", I reminded him, exasperated.
"What? I didn't do anything!"
I grumbled and continued to eat the food. When him and I finished, we talked with some other heroes over the course of a few hours and eventually we got separated. Minutes after we got separated, I was standing talking to Mirko while Hawks was probably off with Endeavor.
"So," the powerful woman said, "How did you and Hawks meet?"
"Well, it's kind of embarrassing. I got stood up by some douche bag so I called a friend to hang out. Long story short I got absolutely trashed and couldn't find my way home. Then Hawks found me. He took me home and I let him stay at my house for the night."
"Ooh! He stayed over?", she asked suggestively.
I raised my waved my hands in defense and embarrassment. "Nothing like that! He just slept over."
"That's surprising. I've never heard of him staying at someone's house. He's honestly kind of reserved."
"Really? He seems outgoing to me..."
She chuckled. "Oh don't get me wrong, he can be a handful sometimes. But he's reserved with his feelings. That care free aura is a facade, you know", she said, sipping a Martini, "he's actually incredibly vigilant and on top of things."
I followed her gaze to the dirty blond and looked. He seemed to know I looked over and winked at me before continuing his conversation. Flustered, I quickly turned back to Mirko.
"I saw that. He likes you."
"He just needs me to work for him, that's all", I tucked my hair behind my ear
"If you say so!", she flashed her teeth in a brilliant smile, "but I think there might be a little more to it."
I felt a hand snake around my waist as Hawks appeared behind me.
My face warmed and Mirko finished her colorful drink. "Speak of the devil."
"Talking about me? All good things I hope!"
My eyes pleaded with Mirko not to say anything and she smirked. "All good thinks bird brain."
